Im an American with a lot of time spent around Indians, both here and in India. They are imho the kindest people on the planet. Their history is stunning.
Thank you for your kind words; I have experienced forty plus years of life in the United States, but you are the first person to make me comfortable. Bless your heart!
If anyone is wondering is what is going on, This is a segment of a piece in the concert called Ragam Tanam Pallavi (RTP, in short) - In this piece, the artists present a series of ragas in a section called Ragamalika (literally translates to a garland of Ragas). The RTP is usually done in one raga which here is Raga Shanmukhapriya. But in the ragamalika portion of the RTP: She starts of with the Raga Shuddha Dhanyasi - (00:13) and She swiftly changes to the Raga Saraswati - (02:10), follwed by A shower of swaras in the raga Saveri - (03:38) and She comes back to the Raga Shanmukhapriya at - (04:33) You can obviously notice the change in the mood of the ragas.

if you listen closely you can hear all sorts of music, flamenco blues jazz rock bluegrass zydeco...all. its crazy. this music is like the basic foundation of all modern music.
C'est-à-dire on peut écouter toutes sortes de musique blues jazz flamenco les Espagnol ons recopier sur eux pour inventer le flamenco? les Américains le blues? toutes musiques existantes et tirer de cette musique?
What are you even saying? By saying such ignorant things, completely devoid of any material or historical understanding of the immense anthropological diversity of this world, you cast a dark cloud of shame on Indian culture

How wonderful is the internet... watching Primus, decide to check out the drummer on wikipedia, discover he is well known for polyrythmic drumming (?) go to see what that is, discover that southern indian Carnatic music is a good example and here I am... Loving the music btw, fantastic stuff.
Saraswati Veena has a clean and rich tone that I really like and so about 11 years ago I purchased my own. No, I do not play on her level, but I enjoy playing upon my own Veena any way. -Peter

Great. Us Indians attach so much of pomp and divinity to it. But for any musically oriented, it readily catches on to them. My daughter was practicing Veena few years ago, a White man tradie, came home to fix something up, watched my daughter playing for few minutes, as he kept working. When he finished, asked my daughter if he could have a go at the instrument and he held the instrument in a strange position, yet made some nice musical tunes readily ...! Obviously he is seeing a Saraswati Veena for the first time and music is not his profession for sure. Yet he could play some nice musical notes. As he kept me surprised, he returned the instrument, with a look that said, "ah, that's how it goes...!" and left on his way without much ado ...!
and... now I"m obsessed... was doing some research on the Goddess Saraswati and found this video... I love this music so much... I'm gonna be listening on repeat....

This is so soothing. The levels of musicianship are mind blowing. Plus the fact carnatic music is not well known in "the west" makes this surprising, new and exciting to those unfamiliar with it like me. With that being said, I slyly grew up on this music considering the amount of time I spent in Indian or bengali restaurants.

That's called "ghattam", it's look like normal pot but is made uniquely to give it characteristic sound and strength. It is not a classical instrument instead it is a folk one incorporated in classical music..

Basically all music in the west is based upon mathematics that was discovered in somewhere around China-India-Middle east area. But no one can rock like good Indian classical artists :D
The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It's all subjective. There is beauty even in death metal, alternative rock, rap, fusion, jazz, electronic music, etc. All good music is a reflection of immense dedication of the artist to some craft. And that is ultimately what we all appreciate.
Hey, I love carnatic too. I really like how enthusiastic you are. But I think it's not in the spirit of Carnatic to belittle other musical traditions. In the words of Shankara shastri from Shankarabharanamu music is an endless ocean from which anyone can satisfy their thirst. Who are we to compare one against the other and say it is better? Anyways, I hope you have a good day and find many more years of happiness in listening to carnatic.

Before Tabla was invented by Amir Khusrau by cutting the pakhacaj in two pieces, this is how the classic Indian mudic sounded like. Kudos to south India for keeping the thousand years of tradition alive!!!
sorry but you are totally wrong about Amir Khusrau being the founder of tabla, I don't exactly know the name of the founder but he was not the founder because as much as i know from some books about Indian music they all said Amir Khusrau have no part in creation of tabla.
manthan prajapati yes, there is this idiotic tendency to ascribe every single invention of past six or seven centuries to Amir Khusro as if all of Indians had suddenly lost all the inventive talent as soon as he set foot here. If fact transition from Mridangam to Tabla is not a single sharp event. It happened gradually over a period of time. First mridangam was split in two. Then permanent syahi on bayan came into use, then tabla specifc techniques for bayan were invented. All of this must have taken atleast a few decades. There is actually not much physical and documentary evidence to trace the extact history of tabla. It was probably ascribed to Amir Khusro because of its persian sounding name.
@@meusha846 You are a fool who does not know any history. Sanatana dharma is the oldest religion in the world. The so called monotheists tried to spread and are still trying to spread through/fraud their religion in Bharath. They will not be sucessful. You know nothing about hindu dharma. Please keep your mouth shut and you will be doing a big service to the entire world. What Harsh deshmukh has said is nothing wrong. Nobody likes people who kill people and impose their religion on the innocents. Lots of musicians including even many famous Hindustani musicians were forcible converts. Dagar himself was a hindu earlier and traces his lineage to a hindu family.Obviously now dont tell me that mughals were saints, they were here to loot India and did their job pretty thoroughly. It cannot be that those who get looted dont even have rights to say that they were looted.

I came looking for the Veena. I stayed for the Ghatam. [American Version]: "Needs more cowbell." [Newly revised Version]: "Needs more Ghatam." ...Hopefully I named that instrument correctly. I actually came out of curiosity regarding the sound of a veena, but then I had to google about the pot as soon as I saw it. In any case, this whole thing was pretty awesome.

If you wanted to know, that's actually called 'Ghatam' (with a soft 't' sound) and was traditionally used before the tabla came to the south of India, although now many people are bringing it back!

If anyone is wondering is what is going on,
This is a segment of a piece in the concert called Ragam Tanam Pallavi (RTP, in short) - In this piece, the artists present a series of ragas in a section called Ragamalika (literally translates to a garland of Ragas). The RTP is usually done in one raga which here is Raga Shanmukhapriya. But in the ragamalika portion of the RTP:
She starts of with the Raga Shuddha Dhanyasi - (00:13) and
She swiftly changes to the Raga Saraswati - (02:10), follwed by
A shower of swaras in the raga Saveri - (03:38) and
She comes back to the Raga Shanmukhapriya at - (04:33)
You can obviously notice the change in the mood of the ragas.
Good Evening dear Akhil.
Thanks for sharing knowledge.
Ma Saraswathi bless you.

I am here accidentally. Now I know what a great saraswati veena player sounds like. I love this Carnatic music.
Please try to listen Mr Ravi Sanker music.

Jayanthi Kumaresh is a rock star!!! Unbelievable performance. She epitomizes the words "groovy, man!"
Who invented rock music again??? :D Love this. Carnatic music is among the best in the world.
Totally agree

Lovely chemistry between the two, imperative in Indian music
Before Tabla was invented by Amir Khusrau by cutting the pakhacaj in two pieces, this is how the classic Indian mudic sounded like. Kudos to south India for keeping the thousand years of tradition alive!!!
Poulomi Hari - it is called Mrindangam and used as pakhavadhyam...not pakhacaj or whatever that word you use...
sorry but you are totally wrong about Amir Khusrau being the founder of tabla, I don't exactly know the name of the founder but he was not the founder because as much as i know from some books about Indian music they all said Amir Khusrau have no part in creation of tabla.
manthan prajapati yes, there is this idiotic tendency to ascribe every single invention of past six or seven centuries to Amir Khusro as if all of Indians had suddenly lost all the inventive talent as soon as he set foot here.
Tabla was there since thousands of years. You can view them in some of very old Hindu temples. It was definitely modified to suit modern times.

Honestly, this Raga activates the Anahata (Heart) Chakra.
Now that's what I call shredding! That lady killed it!

Incredible!!!
Itz not just Shanmukhapriya. But a combination of few ragas including Hindolam, in the beginning
Yes, Hindolam....
first and then Saraswathi...
I think it's Suddha Dhanyasi and then Saraswathi
Suddha Dhanyasi and Saraswathi followed by Saveri and then Shanmukhapriya
i think so

Amazing, wonderful, charming, excellent !... Divine talent...
The day my soul leaves body..i would like to be listening to this type of music 💗
There is no doubt that Sri Saraswathi Devi has blessed all these musicians !
Fantástico. Una bella música.
I came looking for the Veena.
I stayed for the Ghatam.
[American Version]:
"Needs more cowbell."
[Newly revised Version]:
"Needs more Ghatam."
...Hopefully I named that instrument correctly.
I actually came out of curiosity regarding the sound of a veena, but then I had to google about the pot as soon as I saw it.
In any case, this whole thing was pretty awesome.

So you're telling me these guys made a pot into a musical instrument? That's mind-blowing
exactly - this is how it started :)
thats our culture yo we indians have a great variety of instruments
Btw that's called a ghatam
yes bro, im pretty sure its called a Veena, very beautiful sounds.
That is no ordinary pot, it is specially made.
Ragam saveri starts at 3:37 with the shuddha rishabham in the phrase : Sa Re Ma Pa !
Great music, purely heavenly.

If you wanted to know, that's actually called 'Ghatam' (with a soft 't' sound) and was traditionally used before the tabla came to the south of India, although now many people are bringing it back!
Excellent performance, congratulations 👌👌🙏🙏🎉🎉.
