Shree Venkatesh kumar comes from humble background. He was sheltered, fed and coached by the blind saint sree sree Puttaraj gawayi, who runs an ashram (Sree Veerehwarashram for students in Gadag, Karnataka).
HE is so humble and at present is one of the top performers. He is so committed to his art that he is exclusively in India( no foreign tours). He is at present dedicating to pick talent in the young and poor and training them for the future.The Dharwad, Gadag and near villages produced Bhimsen Joshi, Gangubai Hangal, Mallikarjun Mansur etc

I wish Pandith VK were more media savvy. He is so focussed on his art that he neglects everything else. It is his nature. But the resultant problem is that much of our country is still ignorant of his genius. I am sure there are others like him. Media which spends days in discussing trivial issues has no time for simple man like Panditji simply because he is not a good speaker.
thats the problem with all, at least most, classical singers. but that also allows them to stay true to art. Once you start caring about what audience wants, then it get commercialized.then it is more of a business than art. Bollywood for example, is not really art, it is business of making art
