Your compassion and kindness toward the dog is amazing and refreshing. Some other TH-cam groomers have too much of an aggressive attitude. Thanks for posting and being patient.
I am wondering... Would it help to take "good boy treat breaks," so as not to "rush" the groom? Just a thought. I know you take short breaks from sections, but how about breaks from the handling, the clipper noise, the brushing, and give small treats and soothing massage with soothing background music? I'm not a groomer (yet) but just trying to observe and learn from the best groomer EVER. I'm sure you learn from your viewers, too, 🤗❤️
First I want to say that I'm impressed with how calm and loving you are to Henry. Next, I hate how groomers always assume that the owners are neglectful, if they were truly neglectful, he wouldn't be at a groomer. I've watched over 100 videos trying to get tips on what to do with my dog because he is terrified and almost "aggressive" over grooming. We didn't get our baby until 8 weeks, then had to get all of his shots before getting him into a groomer, and had to wait over a month for an opening. He hates and hated then being brushed, clipped etc. He came back shaking but she had to do a full cut on the first go. Ok..second time, he now hated baths and would shake for hours after, though he loved baths before. 3rd he came back with a busted blood vessel in his eye and she told me he peed on the table and how horrible he is. Now I can brush his back but still struggle with his chest and he runs from even seeing grooming scissors. I cant get a razor near him, if i turn it on in the same room he runs and when he sees it he tries everything to get away. So maybe the owners aren't neglectful. Maybe they have a difficult dog and the groomer made it worse so they tried to do it at home and needed help. And yes, if all groomers were patient like you I think dogs would be so much better off.
As a 27 year grooming professional and grooming instructor I agree fully with her assessment of this dog and her comments regarding neglect. Terriers are often very sensitive. Many owners stop doing something if their dog doesn't like it, like brushing and combing. With an overly sensitive pet they need to be brushed more, not less. Gentle consistency is key. More often than not the owners are responsible for the temperament and attitude of their pets due to lack of training of the pet and the owner.
That poor dog is very neglected. If you let your dog get in that bad of shape you have a problem. The only way a dog should look like that is if he's living on the street. I'm not a professional. Just a doodle owner. I hope you give this little guy a chance if they are good owners and bring him back timely. He might not be so bad without the matting.
I agree. I groom and I’ve had dogs the owner tells me they got traumatized with last groomer. I’m super patient and try to make the experience good for them. It takes time, and probably helps to keep same groomer if possible.
I had a similar problem with my Brussel's Griffon. He has been a fearful little guy from the start since 8 weeks old. I've spent hours and hours training him and desensitizing. Naturally, the groomer is an absolute nightmare for him. Every time I've taken him there, he's come back behaviorally worse than before, and sometimes they aren't even able to finish the entire cut. Rather than just ignore it, I bought clippers and scissors and a grooming tie and tried grooming him myself for 8 months. Sure enough, he's extremely defensive and will lunge at the clippers and scramble to get away. No amount of treats (even baked him a steak!) convinces him it is safe. I'm so slow and careful, I can only groom about 3/4 of him at a time before he's had enough. Probably because it takes 3-4 hours. And I'm scared to nick him, so some spots I try to scissor, but he's equally scared of scissors. My cuts look mediocre at best, there is no way I can emulate someone with years of training and experience. Eventually I took him back to the groomer, and this time they ended up injuring his trachea by tying him up tight to prevent him from struggling. He violently coughed and wretched for several days after. He couldn't even bark. I took him to the vet and they just said to monitor him; he did clear up. That was the last straw. I have no choice but to clip him on my own at this point and keep working with his fears. "More often than not the owners are responsible for the temperament and attitude of their pets due to lack of training of the pet and the owner." I don't think this is a 100% fair assessment. His half sister is an absolute superstar and I've done nothing differently with her. Same dad, different mom's. She generally has a better temperament in all respects. While she doesn't love the groomer, she does fabulous with them. I can groom her half decently and she never tries fighting, that is just not her nature. While there are some terrible owners out there, difficult cases like her brother should not be lumped into crappy ownership category. I used to think that way, until I got "that" dog. (What a good karma lesson for me!) People aren't responsible for the temperament and attitude of the dog, they are only responsible for making an attempt to fix the problems, and even then, you can see how darn difficult it can be. I've put in way more effort than most dog owners ever would and he's still challenging all my training skills. I haven't given up yet, but at some point people will give up because they have no clue how to fix it and don't want to spend hundreds on a trainer and grooming tools, just for a groom.
I have a similar experience with my scared aggressive dog. I have groomed him since he was a pup and always shown kindness yet he is savage and unpredictable. Henry is a sweetheart! No matter what I try with my fur baby I always end up bleeding.
Anyone who lets their dog get this bad should NEVER be allowed to have one! Letting a poor animal 😢 get this matted is cruel & abusive. Please people start your dogs early like the groomer said & if you don't know how to groom, please learn from a professional or take him to a professional. This groomer is the kindest 💕 most loving person ever. You are great! You did your best!❤ 🤍 💙
I give all groomers so much credit, love and admiration! Since the pandemic shutdown started my dog was one week away from his 8 week grooming appointment when the groomer had to close down. I have always loved my groomer and my toy poodle does as well. Loves to visit her and we never have any problems. I do at home what I can. I pluck his ears and bath and brush him. Well, I had to do something before he started matting up. I have at home an old Wahl clipper that I used on my Cairn Terrier and Bison because of a bad experience with a very bad, fatal experience with a groomer and the loss of my first toy poodle. (enough said about that) Anyway, I had to clip my 3 year old toy because who knows when they will let him back to his groomer. I watched these videos to sort of brush up on my grooming skills that were not great to begin with but I could do enough. I'm so glad I did! Your advice got me and my fur baby through it. After 5 hours of clipping, scissoring and taking breaks he is trimmed short enough to wait it out (hopefully not too much sooner) I sent pictures and a text message to his groomer literally in tears for the respect and admiration I have for her and her trade. My fur baby was patient and calm through the whole thing that tells me that I chose the right groomer and feel so much better bringing him to her knowing she is caring for him. He loves going there and it shows with the way he behaved for me with the clippers etc. Just want to thank all groomers out there who take the time to care for out pets. I have a renewed sense of and an abundance of respect, admiration and love for you all! Thank you for posting your videos and know that you are helping pets and pet parents with your calm voice and awesome care!
After watching a hand full of groomers I fully agree with you. Amie is so gentle from her voice to her body motions and touches. I am in school to be a groomer. I will strive to be the loving, caring groomer that is displayed by Go Groomer!
I had a groomer tell me she wouldn’t be able to do a full groom on my puppy because of her age. I’ve worked diligently desensitizing her to touch. It’s so important for owners to do this not just for grooming but for vet visits. She’s still a puppy and I get many compliments from the groomer and vet. I’m so thankful I’ve taken the time to do this with her. I’ll pray for Henry to have a safe/healthy home.
As a fellow groomer, I am so thankful that you are showing some of the more difficult parts of our job. I work in Detroit, MI and I came from SC. The types of neglect we see daily in my shop are so wild that it seems unbelievable. I appreciate your attempts to help this little guy and I try my best to do the same! Thanks for being a fantastic groomer
Let’s not be too hard on the parents. Sometimes they do put in the effort but the dog is unwilling to cooperate…and most parents don’t want their dog to hate them. I have a ‘New Hope Only’ ( should be ‘Last Hope Only’) rescue from the NYACC. She is a Maltese/ ShihTzu mix. She was found wandering the streets of NYC…matted so badly it was hard to tell that she was a dog. She was labeled ‘fear aggressive’ at the shelter because she absolutely forbid anyone to handle her and had bitten several workers. ( It must have been frightening for her…she is still terrified of the sound of metal clanking). That greatly narrowed her options. After she was taken from the shelter by the rescue, she was tranquillized to shave her down. I have had ShihTzus for many years and have always groomed them myself very successfully…I have all the tools, table, etc. I was close with the rescue who took her and I was asked if I would adopt her. Of course I would. I thought the issues they said she had were being exaggerated. Well…lol…no one had exaggerated anything. She was kind of a little nightmare. ( Devil Dog) I was bitten several times just trying to clean the goopies out of her eyes. It was really dicey the first few weeks…I was ready to throw in the towel..but I didn’t, because I knew what that would mean for her. It took a long time to build up enough trust to do anything to her. It took, literally, years…to get her to a point where I could kind of groom her. I never groom her all in one day. I groom different parts of her on different days…always followed by treats that she only gets when I groom her. She still growls and carries on as if someone is trying to murder her. It’s exhausting. Sometimes…there are parts of her that do not get the proper attention they should. I won’t bring her to a groomer because I KNOW they will be bitten. She is sweet as sugar when you meet her…until you try to groom her..then she morphs into a rabid wolverine. She and I have ‘an arrangement’ and I groom her ( badly, lol) as best I can. I was very sick for a few months and did not have the strength to groom her ( I could groom my other dog…who I’ve had since she was a puppy…so she is trained to be groomed and it is effortless…but this one is really difficult). She did get mats and I was torn with guilt over it…but it just had to wait until I was up to it…because she is no walk in the park…and I do not want her to bite anyone else. Sometimes dogs come with baggage that we know nothing about. I’ll never know what happened to her before she came to me…I can only imagine. She is a happy girl now…but she will never look like a ‘show dog’. Her picture is my profile pic.💖
Great job Amy for what you could get done! I also spend time at the beginning of the groom getting to know the dog first. I am a one on one home based groomer. It helps so much more as a bond begins to form. It is so hard when clients come to you with matted dogs and excuses about brushing at home etc. My matted clients are now on a 6-8 weekly scheduled groom, or I won't groom their dogs. I'm only new to grooming (9 months) and I love it, but I have learned very quickly that I can't help everyone. This was a hard lesson for me to learn too, as I wear my heart on my sleeve. Have referred 2 clients to the vets for sedation grooms, so far, as dogs were totally ungroomable to the point of being unsafe. It all comes down to duty of care, doesn't it?? You have such a huge heart and I love your entire grooming philosophy. Much love from Australia xxx
We had a dog, who loved to be brushed and took baths, he went to a groomer often, but we noticed he had cuts in his ears and the soft spots on his body. He became more affraid every time he went. Until the point he would bite even hearing a clipper. Now we have to do it ourselves, he is still scared but he knows we won't hurt him. It's not always the owner, sometimes its the groomer. I wish everyone was as gentle as you. You can see you love what you do, and take care of the furbabies ❤
Agree, not this particular dog but yes, many groomers are harsh, not good at their job and have literally NO training in dog behavior nor in having positive consensual dog training. I will not take my dogs to groomers. I would take them to this gal, however!
I love your compassion. I know a few groomers who get so angry and frustrated with dogs like this. They either stop the groom and send the dog home half done or they finish and then give mom and dad attitude about their dogs behavior. I love how kind you are to him no matter what. You just want to help him. We need more compassionate people like you in this world
I just find your videos so sweet and love your tricks and techniques. I have a little maltipoo that is just as afraid as Henry maybe even worse. I have taken her to multiple groomers and they have rejected her now. Since she was a puppy we have done regular brushing and grooming but she hates it specially her feet. I was taking her to a groomer who was not very friendly to me and I noticed my dog was not getting better. when my dog saw her come out she soiled herself in terror. That's when I realized where her trauma came from. I don't know what my pup went thru but now I do the grooming myself by watching your videos in hopes that she can forget one day. I wish that there were more groomers like you who genuinely care for the pups Thank you for your videos. ❤
By the way, you’re AMAZING! You were so gentle and patient. I’ve seen groomers dealing with dogs like this yelling at them to calm down and saying “No!” And forcing them to stay. You did so well ❤️
I'm a professional dog trainer and I am beyond impressed with how you handled him and just how far you got with him in the grooming process! You really have a gift to be able to build trust. I adopted a 96 lb Pyradoodle and I've been learning how to groom him. Your tips help tremendously. I will also start helping clients teach their dogs how to become desensitized to the clippers. It's not something I ever had to think about before owning an overgrown cotton ball! ❤️✂️
Just wanted to say I feel your pain. I get a lot of matted dogs like this and it is mentally and physically exhausting. I never get mad at the dog, take lots of breaks, give lots of hugs and reassurance. All I want to do is help the dog and stress them out as little as possible. I always try to educate the owner about how painful and traumatic it is for their pet. Still, some just keep bringing the pet back in the same shape. As much as I want to help the dog, I eventually have to say “no more”. It just breaks my heart.
My yorkie has NEVER been man handled or hurt while grooming. She was groomed constantly since she was a puppy. She has always been afraid of facial grooming 😢 now that she’s blind and deaf she is slightly less afraid but groomers won’t take her anymore due to her age and frailty so I do my best. Thank you for your informational videos💕they are so helpful
I hope you learned how loving, patient and kind you are. I appreciate how gentle and sweetly you spoke to Henry. You spent so much time calming him and didn't rush the process. 👏♥️👍💕
I honestly can't fathom how dogs can get this bad... Literally every dog owner I know has clippers. It tears my heart up to see this, but you did an amazing job on him & was very compassionate.
Amy god bless you for showing how challenging it is as groomers when we get a beautiful furry soul that comes to us petrified the pain they feel with the matting and the heart break when an owner waits too long 😞.. a compassionate groomer hurts with the pet so as a groomer i love you girl !!!! You did an amazing job !!!!... Henry i love you too 💓
You are so wonderful with the dog. Your energy is great. I'm a retired teacher who taught children with autism. I have 2 shih tzus. I actually went to grooming school to groom my dogs because I had them groomed once and they seemed so upset when they got home. I have a friend with a carin terrier who no groomer wants to groom. I used my children behavior training with the dog. The dog bites so I got welding gloves and introduced the gloves with treats. Making the gloves a positive thing. It worked. Only when she tries to bite I'm firm and assertive and I wait until she's comfortable and I continue. I groom her fully and she comes out beautiful. She's really happy when it's over and follows me around wagging her tail. Of course it's the owners fault although she's my friend and also a special ed teacher she's not good handling her own dog's behavior. So the first few times I did the dog by myself after the 3rd groom she can stay around and she behaves. When I had the issue with the face. I say no and I don't say anything else and I give her complete eye contact almost a stare. Don't move until she gets herself together and is completely calm. Then I say good girl and continue until she knows you are not going to give up. That was my motto at work (you do it until) sadly children with behaviors react the same way. And I would continue what ever I wanted from them until. Reward any time they are doing the right thing. Just always calm not angry say no stare continue let the dog know you are not going to give up and eventually they will give up and surrender. Once it's over, give kisses, praises and treats and you'll have a happy dog. :)
I am a groomer who has very similar philosophies, we have just a couple differences. You are the gentlest groomer I have seen on youtube, very much like my husband and I.
Bless Henry’s little heart. No dog should ever be allowed to get matted let alone “that ” matted. Bless your heart Amy for doing your best to help this little fella. I feel for the both of ya.😔💞
You are AMAZING, Amy! The dog owners have overfed that dog (indulging it) and not trained it (indulging it further). The dog is the one that pays the price for being unhealthy physically and emotionally. Dogs need BOUNDARIES , rules & limitations.
I remember Henry. Poor guy, he was such a sweetheart! Definitely had to have a tramatic experience to act that way. So thankful I was there to experience this very important message. Glad it is here to come back and watch!!
I just found your channel, and oh my goodness you are the most patient groomer I have watched on TH-cam!!! I pray that my groomer loves on my fur baby like you did this one❤️
Dogs can be fearful of anything with or without experiencing things. They suffer with phobias just like we do. Some dogs are more sensitive in certain areas as well.
There are dogs that don't require as much upkeep. I don't understand why people get fogs with significant grooming needs when they don't intend to take care of it.
“Dogs, lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you're going to lose a dog, and there's going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can't support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There's such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price. Maybe loving dogs is a way we do penance for all the other illusions we allow ourselves and the mistakes we make because of those illusions.” ― Dean Koontz, The Darkest Evening of the Year
Poor Henry 😢 I own 7 male schnauzers and learned to groom them myself. I can’t believe his owners allowed him to get so matted. I groom my boys every 6 to 8 weeks and brush them everyday. You did a great job with him.
Thank you for sharing this video and thank you for showing so much compassion for Henry. He must’ve had some very bad experience with the clippers, whether from the owners or from a previous grooming. There are harsh groomers out there, even on TH-cam you can see the harsh handling towards the dog on the table. Some of them do get me upset. Henry is a sweetheart, he didn’t try to bite you, he’s just scared. I have a maltipoo. Some time ago, he’s so afraid of the grooming, the minute I arrived at the groomer’s parking lot he started shaking like crazy. One time it was so bad his shaking that the groomer called me to come and get him and I had to take him to the vet to calm him down. Then we realized his neck had very bad bruises. After that I bought a grooming table and all the equipment and tools needed to groom him. I even took an on line grooming training and watched as many grooming videos I can watch. He’s so much better now, he does accept me to groom him but it took many years and lots of love and practice for him to let be groomed. Your tenderness with Henry made me feel so good for Henry. Let’s just pray for a better future for him. Again, thank you for showing us your kindness❤
I had told you about my lhasa/yorkie...that she had been injured by a groomer(sliced to eyeball) so she would try to break a leg to get away. I spoke recently when I took my mini schnauzer in, the vet had given Bella, xanax....no one would take her. Vet gave her Gabapentin, same thing, they would not groom any dog on and sedative. She suggested Hemp Calming Support, made of hemp seed, chamomile and magnesium.....Bella can now be groomed!!!!!! I am beyond thrilled, and so is Bella. They carried it in the groomers area.
Ty for sharing this video. It is so informative and educational. I brush my Giant Schnauzer at least 2-3 times a week. While we watched this video, my husband immediately went to brush our Bentley. Matting is my biggest fear with Bentley. We stay on top of Bentley's coat care. I commend you on your professionalism and kindness toward Henry. My heart goes out to both of you. Again, thank you for sharing.
OMG Amy you are the kindest loveliest kindest person, Henry Mum and Dad should hopefully learn from this that they need to start grooming (brushing poor Henry)and doing a daily routine of looking after him ,poor wee man had fear anxiety, you were ssssoooooooooooo patent with him and showed him nothing but kindness and empathy and you and only you showed him the kindness that he deserves , i was covering my mouth watching with horror at his neglect , so thank you for showing the flip side of what a groom can be . i have passed on your link to my dog sitter , who i was talking to yesterday(on the phone) about how your lockdown tips were really good ,and it would help all her worried dog owners about a tidy up groom until the lockdown in Scotland is lifted . So wonderful kind thoughtful patent awesome Amy thank you . Edinbugh Scotland is like your style xXx
rebecca spalding you are so kind to share such lovely words and thoughts about me and Henry 💕 I really appreciate this and your support in Scotland-hugs my friend!
My Yorkie was clipped at a groomer and needed stiches in his groin area. I have been watching your videos to learn how to best take care of him as he no longer trusts anyone but me for grooming. Thank you for your advice and guidance
Love the way you talk to Henry to help reassure him. This must be so frightening for this poor boy. Most groomers online just hack away to a very frightened dog. This is so cruel in my eyes.
You just want the best for every dog regardless of what other so called groomers do. This poor dog had me sobbing 😭 some pet parents just do NOT deserve dogs. You’re the best Amy.
Thank you for shooting an honest video. I’m not a professionally trained dog groomer by any means. I have my third cocker spaniel and she just had her first birthday. We work at brushing and bathing. She’s getting accustomed to it. I took her to a grooming shop once. I asked for the suburban cut. The groomer was experienced. However, when it was time to pick her up, I asked if she was difficult. The groomer said that she was not well behaved. I figured she would give any groomer a hard time. She flips out in our house if anything is not in its proper place. She barks the second she hears the vacuum, the blender, the electric knife, etc. I just received her very own clipper and combs. My husband has Alzheimer’s and he helps to keep her calm. Tomorrow, I’m going to attempt to give her a pretty haircut. I wonder what ended up happening to Henry. Pour little guy. I love watching your videos and listening to your thorough explanations. Thank you so much.
Hi Amy! I have a client with a Std Schnauzer same problem. They never brush or they say they try to get the mats out of the beard. I usually try and brush it and use a mat splitter or the end of my scissors to break up the mat. My guy is bad. But not as bad as Henry. I feel so bad for him. He should have been on the grooming table as soon as possible. We started our schnauzers when they were young to get use to brush, table, scissors , clippers , touching ears , paws, pads. So they are familiar with everything. Sometimes 2 to 3 times a week. Because they had to be OK to strip their coats later. My hats off to you girl. I would have been sweating a river with him. Love you you did good. I would love to have heard what the clients had to say. The sad part is Henry will be like that again. I get so mad at people who want these dogs but can't take the time to brush and take care of them. Not fair to Henry. Why didn't they get a chihuahua.
Amy, "Patience is the companion of wisdom." You have both in abundance. I am not as patient as you are. I would have stopped the grooming and asked the owner to come in to assist in order to show him/her what Henry and you had to go through. That kind of neglect makes my blood boil. It's animal cruelty, even though it may be unintentional. Lacking in diplomacy when I see any kind of abuse, I would have made it clear to the owner that he/she has a moral responsibility to keep Henry groomed and that either he/she make the effort to work with Henry to address his fear or give him up to someone who is willing to do so and give him a happier life. Kudos to you Amy.
He have definately been cut by a clipper, he remembers it poor dog. He will never trust a face clip again. Its so sad and you tried so hard to help him. I think owners have tried it and maybe cut his lips? Or mouth area? Well done for your attempt. I think he needs a bit of training by professional along with the owners. Xxxx
Dear Ami, you are doing an amazing job! I am happy to know that groomers like you exist. I’ve got a very nervous American cocker spaniel and he’s extremely afraid of shaving his head and ears. My Richard is 7 months old and we’ve tried 3 different groomers. Now my doggy is scared to death and nearly had a heart attack. Thanks to your videos I started doing his grooming myself and we are having some progress. Now I brush him every two days and he allows me to shave his back and head.
I really MUST let you know that watching your video has been like a much needed valium to meeee! Lol! I have been wrenched with anxiety about clipping a rescue dog that I have. I've been procrastinating for probably about a week now because I can't find anybody who has touched on every last crippling fear that my nightmares are made of! I have been very hesitant to clip or try and fix this puppy's problem because I'm a clipper first timer and so is this dog I think! No kidding, I dream about messing up and possibly hurting the dog. I am forever grateful and you're my hero for making this video! I think I have watched 10,000 videos on how to groom your dog but absolutely nobody has picked the right dog to fit my situation. Most of the videos are tutorials on the how to, but sadly I don't think I've seen even one that showed the empathy and love that you did to the dog. It is just as important to do that for him as it is to get the mats off of him. I really appreciate you teaching me how to affectively comfort my pup through this. I usually don't comment on TH-cam videos, however...HOLY ANXIETY relief! Lol! I just had to comment on this one. If you ever wonder if what you do makes a difference in people's lives with their pets.... you have made a profound difference in my life, this puppy's life and in my ability to maintain mental stability! Thank you! Oh, also, I'm totally naming this dog HENRY! 🤎
I have to go through this every time I try to brush my dog, shave my dog, or trim his nails. He used to be well-behaved and confident when he was younger - he's 6 now. He used to go to a professional groomer every 2 months with brushing/bathing at home in between. Then something happened at an appointment that caused him to freak out and become aggressive/fearful and not be able to complete the grooming appointment. It changed his confidence in so many aspects of his life ever since. I've had to groom him at home because I am the only one that has a chance of succeeding. Please don't assume that it could never happen at a professional groomer. Mine did. Although I do believe it was an inexperienced groomer that was filling in for my regular groomer. I don't know if he was accidentally hurt, or if it was just something scary/difficult that happened during the later fear period in his development, but he has never been the same since. I even have to muzzle him at the vet now because he is so scared of anybody touching him. He is the sweetest dog, but his fear is off the charts with grooming.
I feel this :( My sisters dog had the same experience and now its to the point he needs to go to the vets to have his face groomed. Its heart breaking. I cant even help him anymore :( Its heartbreaking when something like this happens and scars them for life. :(
Amy my heart goes out to Henry. Watching you work with him was done with a lot of love, you can see that. I just don’t understand how someone can let they’re fur babies get like this. That’s truly neglect!!! I absolutely enjoy grooming Maggie, so seeing this it’s hard for me to comprehend.
I have three havanese young male dog and I make sure I brush them every other day with a dry bath, clip their nails and clean their ears. I clip their hair every month and wash them twice a month along with removing the hair from their ears. I learned the techniques to maintain them from you tube and from your videos (Thank you!!). It can be done. Pet get used to the grooming woth consistency. Why get a pet if you can put in the time to take care of them properly. Poor little dog!
I love your compassion. We groomed a lil shih tzu named Chewy that was severely matted. I cried and cried. One of my first grooms with April. He was so pitiful. I could tell it was breaking April's heart into a million pieces. He was so happy and a totally different dog afterward. He was soooo relieved afterward. Henry is such a sweetheart. You are the best.
I really appreciated how you added your additional commentary after the fact and edited it throughout your video. It meant less time that a frightened Henry on the grooming table.
You did a great job! I know you only stopped because of real fears of cutting him or him hurting you or himself. I only wish he could have taken a nap and give you both a break so you could have finished his face. This last part of the dog struggle against your grooming is how it looks when I have tried at home. (But with your videos I know what I didn’t before thank you!) Thanks for showing a difficult grooming with matted fur and a scared dog being aggressive. The videos on TH-cam almost always look like dogs that have been kept up so well they need very little grooming. Very grateful for you! Only wish you could have finished and even said Henry became a regular less nervous client. And if Henry went to a vet to finish I wish he were lucky enough to come back to you and continue his road to emotional recovery and a healthy coat. Of course with his owners being good to brush him daily!
This is so amazing. Who the hell would give this a thumbs down ? She helped this dog so much! Sometimes people are just ignorant....I have had 3 schnauzers. I now have a small schnoodle. Thats why I'm here. His hair is different. Its a learning curve for me?? Honey you were wonderful with him. God bless you
I wish all groomers displayed as much compassion and love as you do. I know groomers see some horrific things and animals can be very difficult, however I think sometimes they forget the dogs aren’t responsible for their conditions.
Wow!! The patience you have and the care you show when grooming this poor baby. I just watched another video with a matted dog, but this groomer was way to rough with the poor thing. Idk I'm not a groomer but the way she was clipping the dog fur and yanking out the ear hairs was way to agressive.. the poor dog way yelping so loud when she yanked out the ear hairs..
Poor baby!!! I'm a groomer and I can't believe the conditions some of our poor babies come in!!! The owners need to be forced to take a dog owning class before they can get them!!! Ive seen some nightmares!! Pretty bad when a groomer cries her eyes out uncontrollably when trying to groom a pup!!! You're awesome!! 💖
Yes! Thank you. I understand when you say the owner can be neglectful. It doesn’t mean that it is malicious neglect. It may mean they do not have the skills to handle a reactive puppy or mature dog. They may come from a place where they are afraid to “ hurt” their dog and do not have the skills to desensitize their reactive fur baby. It can be just a couple of days to a terrible mat. Something sticky or something that itches can cause a mat. Please put your hands on your dog everyday. Your are also so right that he hates being groomed because he is groomed when it is to the point of a BAD experience. It also is a credit to you that your patient approach for Henry goes miles for his confidence. Thank you so much! ❤
You are an amazing, compassionate woman, and even with that patch of matted fur on his face, he looks 100% better. Could a dog like this just be heavily dosed with a tranquilizer of some sort rather than full anesthesia? Our new puppy is not letting me brush her; she attacks the brush and tries to bite it and me. We have a good groomer who comes to the house, and she will be facing Mia for the first time in a week, and I am concerned for the groomer! Great job, lady! 🙋🏻♀️💟
You are an absolute diamond, you did everything you possibly could to help this poor boy and even tried calming him down all the way through with alot of love and praise, you don't see that in many grooming videos on youtube, i mean there are some heavy handed not so nice and gentle people on here that I absolutely would love to have a 1 to 1 with but I'm in the UK so I can't do anything but watch and give my opinion. You are brilliant and should be so So proud of yourself. Us fans are proud of you✂️🐾oh and by the way you are so very pretty. Sending you lots of love from 🏴 Stay safe and i look forward to your next videos ❤️💛💖💚🧡✂️🐾
You have just melted my heart. I am always trying to find gentle ways to make it easier on my pooches when grooming. Those mats are really difficult when my gogs fur is like angel hair! You are such a great groomer. THAT IS WHY I FOLLOW YOU YOU!!!!!
Wow! Your patience and kindness to dogs is outstanding! Well done! Poor Henry he must have been so scared and in pain from all that matter fur. Some owners don't deserve pets that they can't look after. Thank you for your posting. 💞💞
You are wonderful! This poor baby being so afraid around his face. Thank you for showing this and hope that some owners will see this and understand that it hurts for mat removal oh the poor baby. Bless you for making him i am sure feel better
Thank you for sharing this video of Henry. I hope all dog owners take this to heart and realize the importance of caring for their dogs. Loving and playing with your dog is just part of being a loving owner. It's no different than your own personal hygiene except it's your responsibility to care fore your dogs. Your fur baby is no different than caring for your human babying in the fact that they can't do it for themselves.
Thank you so much for all the demos that you do. It is so helpful for me to learn all the different situations a groomer endures and how to best handle it. The one thing I’ve learned is to take your time and connect with your dog and make them feel comfortable with you and that you are their friend. I appreciate all you do. God Bless!
I have do a matted dog years ago and it took a while, I don’t remember what breed but he was a hunting dog and he had cocker Burrows in him as well as mats. I’ve been wanting to groom more dogs, right now I do my neighbors and my own. I have two schnauzers and my neighbor has a Shih Tzu. I am glad I found your videos to help me with different breeds. I worked with a groomer for 4 years so I know basics and I watch her and picked up pointers. I’m also a cosmetologist and cut some families hair. Thanks for all you do, your great with dogs. Mary Jane
Thank you so much for sharing. I wasn't surprised and secretly relieved when you said it'd taken you 2hours to get to that final stage. I have had dogs my way that have taken as long. I am grateful that you showed when to stop, even if all the matting hadn't been removed. I usually end up crying though, for the dog and for myself as I feel such a failure. I also am furious with the owners, but keep my cool when I have to talk to them. It's definitely a large cup of English tea at the end to calm myself.
Wow 😳 I commend you! You have great patience and empathy for this poor dog 😢 you’re right in assessing the dogs behavior! Something bad happened with the grooming. You gave it your ALL! I feel for you and the dog;(. And he’s so young! My heart breaks for him ;(. This video is a wake up call to educate pet parents!!!!!
Nicely done Amy. He has to feel so much better. I often wonder if dogs like this process later and can put together the experience with no more pain.? I hope the pet parents can watch this and learn, see and do better so Henry doesn't have to experience this again. Great job!
Thank U for this post. My rescue dog has longhair and in Florida he picks up “hitchhikers” that causes instant matting. I thought about doggie “downers” but I need them as much as he does. This video brings back my PTSD from our grooming sessions and chokes me up. It is horrific because I know he is sooo scared it but he does love it once we are done. Will all the breaks it often takes more then a day. My baby even runs if it go near to where I keep his grooming supplies. I do not want to take him to a groomer for fear they will not take the time he needs for grooming which could make his fear worse. Thank you again for sharing I hope other owners with this problem will watch and learn to be patient with there animals and not just hold them down and push through it. As a ER RN some of the doctors would demand strapping down pediatric patients for sutures etc. rather than explaining everything and doing it at the child’s pace.
Some dogs just don’t like grooming… like from the beginning. I am a professional groomer and have had dogs come in since they were puppies on a regular schedule and are still bad and that’s without any trauma to the dog like cuts or being mistreated.
Amy, it is good you are sharing these groomings, too. There is just not always sunshine and shiny furs! I feel very sad for Henry! I often think, that dogs need groom-training just as much and even more as they need "potty-training". You cannot expect a dog that is not used to get groomed or even brushed to tollerarte everything like manipulating his body and fur over the time of over two hours. It cannot be the goal for the groomer "to get the job done". And the owners have to invest over a period of time for "groom-training" so their dog will be able to have a complete groom some time soon in the future. There is mistakes and misunderstanding on both sides. Owners and groomers. The coin always has two sides. Belive me, I have had a "Henry", a bad groomer and than finally some real good grooming videos to watch that showed me a lot about fur and skincare and how to train my own Bella to get used to tools, shampoo and the clipper. Bella for example is very fuzzy and scary with her paws. So at first I always left it to be done at last. So.... I never got them done! So what I do now is, doing the paws first since she is still patient enough. Bingo! And if she gets fuzzy with her left or right ear now.... so what... I finish it up the next day. But her paws are done. Bella hatet the clipper. So... I would put it on her back turn it on and let her feel the vibration first for a couple times untill she would tollerate it. Soon enough I was able to clip her fur. Maby Henry needs some training like that with his head? Dogs like Henry need time and training and positive feedback. Not a bunch of groomers that turn him down. And of cause a owner that works with you in the same direction! Thanks for sharing all your knowlege to us and keep up the great work! Stay well!!!
I was watching several “difficult” dog grooming videos and this is so refreshing. I have a schnauzer that was abused early in her lifetime and though she is now 12 years old, grooming her private area is next to impossible. I have taken her to the vet for a “Santie shave” but she comes home in such a tizzy. I also have her brother who seems to enjoy attention and pampering. Thank you so much for posting videos you may not want folks to see. These are the ones that are so helpful!
Your compassion and kindness toward the dog is amazing and refreshing. Some other TH-cam groomers have too much of an aggressive attitude. Thanks for posting and being patient.
UR 💯 Right!!!!!
For rrrrreeeaaaalllllll I can think of one right off the bat actually lol
🙉🙊🙈 ...🤔🤐.... That's all ill say for now lol. I know that's not actually saying anything but it kind of is 😎
@@myfavoritedogdad I think I may know of whom you speak.....
I like that you shared a real situation. And didn’t sugar coat it. And knew when to call it quits. Sign of a great teacher,
Thanks for that:)
Aww I love how sweetly you are talking to him. Not all groomers are as nice as you - several of them with channels here on youtube! Poor pup!
😊 thank you
THIS! Her compassion is so admirable! She is bubbling over with love for this poor little guy! It’s the sweetest thing!
UR 100% Right @ Christina Williams
Anyone who lets their dog get this bad should NEVER be allowed to have one! Letting a poor animal 😢 get this matted is cruel & abusive. Please people start your dogs early like the groomer said & if you don't know how to groom, please learn from a professional or take him to a professional. This groomer is the kindest 💕 most loving person ever. You are great! You did your best!❤ 🤍 💙
Yeah
Thank you my friend:)
Timely
Thanks for your OBEDIENCE
After watching a hand full of groomers I fully agree with you. Amie is so gentle from her voice to her body motions and touches.
I am in school to be a groomer. I will strive to be the loving, caring groomer that is displayed by Go Groomer!
You are so beautiful with him , true professional and very caring
You are so kind
I love how gentle you are with Henry your a great person and groomer ❤️💐🙌🧡🐶✂️💙💚
You stayed so kind with this poor baby.

Brittany Robertson hugs my friend 💕 thank you!
You and I are two pea's in a pod❤️ I agree 🙋♀️Hugs!
Carolyn D I agree:)
In the end, you have to take care of you, and the well-being of the dog!😉
We need more compassionate people like you in this world
Anony Mous thank you for this message 💕
What amazing patience and kindness you showed us. I hope the parents see this video and learn to take better care of their dog's needs.
My pleasure 💖
I love hearing this! Teaching people how to desensitize dogs to the grooming process. That is priceless my friend. Thank you 🙏
Just wanted to say I feel your pain.
Nancy Shreffler that is exactly the situation us Groomer’s face occasionally and it hard on both the dog and us:(
My yorkie has NEVER been man handled or hurt while grooming.
Henry i love you too 💓
Bridget M’s curlypawz I know you understand my friend:) 💕 love you too!
Awwww! Poor thing!
So happy you took this dog into your salon. Hope they take him into the vets and get the rest off...and then keep him groomed on a schedule.
Thank you so much for your love, kindness, talent, and patience. That poor baby. Please consider making him a regular client - he needs you so badly!!
I am a groomer who has very similar philosophies, we have just a couple differences. You are the gentlest groomer I have seen on youtube, very much like my husband and I.
Wow, thank you!
This makes me cry. Thank you for being so kind, Amy Leigh.❤
Bless Henry’s little heart. No dog should ever be allowed to get matted let alone “that ” matted. Bless your heart Amy for doing your best to help this little fella. I feel for the both of ya.😔💞
We got through it:) Thanks sweetie❤️
You are AMAZING, Amy! The dog owners have overfed that dog (indulging it) and not trained it (indulging it further). The dog is the one that pays the price for being unhealthy physically and emotionally. Dogs need BOUNDARIES , rules & limitations.
I remember Henry. Poor guy, he was such a sweetheart! Definitely had to have a tramatic experience to act that way. So thankful I was there to experience this very important message. Glad it is here to come back and watch!!
It sure was an experience wasn't it sweetie❤️ So glad you could help me and also share Henry's story:)
I just found your channel, and oh my goodness you are the most patient groomer I have watched on TH-cam!!! I pray that my groomer loves on my fur baby like you did this one❤️
Most groomers enjoy working with the pets they groom:)
I am 5 minutes in and already fell in love with you... YOU ARE an absolute asset to the professional grooming community.. Thank You.
Wow, thank you!
Dogs can be fearful of anything with or without experiencing things. They suffer with phobias just like we do. Some dogs are more sensitive in certain areas as well.
Greetings do you provide care in Pa for pups?

There are dogs that don't require as much upkeep. I don't understand why people get fogs with significant grooming needs when they don't intend to take care of it.
“Dogs, lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you're going to lose a dog, and there's going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can't support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There's such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price. Maybe loving dogs is a way we do penance for all the other illusions we allow ourselves and the mistakes we make because of those illusions.”

Gosh , I hope Henery is ok where ever he is.
I highly appreciate your attitude, empathy and professionality. I hope Henry is doing ok.....
Thank you:) I hope Henry is happy and healthy as well:)
Super awesome:)
Wonderful! Thank you so much for finding value in my video's:) Bentley is in good hands with you and Hubby❤️
You are an Angel Amy! God Bless Your Patience and skill. Hope Henry is Ok now.
I hope so too😢
OMG Amy you are the kindest loveliest kindest person, Henry Mum and Dad should hopefully learn from this that they need to start grooming (brushing poor Henry)and doing a daily routine of looking after him ,poor wee man had fear anxiety, you were ssssoooooooooooo patent with him and showed him nothing but kindness and empathy and you and only you showed him the kindness that he deserves , i was covering my mouth watching with horror at his neglect , so thank you for showing the flip side of what a groom can be .
i have passed on your link to my dog sitter , who i was talking to yesterday(on the phone) about how your lockdown tips were really good ,and it would help all her worried dog owners about a tidy up groom until the lockdown in Scotland is lifted .
You have a nice gentle way with the dogs. I too have seen other videos where the groomer seems gruff and rough.
Aww, I feel for you both. Poor Henry went through something in his past.
😭I think so too.
My Yorkie was clipped at a groomer and needed stiches in his groin area. I have been watching your videos to learn how to best take care of him as he no longer trusts anyone but me for grooming. Thank you for your advice and guidance
Glad to help!
Love the way you talk to Henry to help reassure him. This must be so frightening for this poor boy. Most groomers online just hack away to a very frightened dog. This is so cruel in my eyes.
I felt so bad for Henry. I couldn't make him relax and that makes me sad.
Amen sister❤️
@Lynn Hexler-Haan Noooo! It would end up with splinters 😉🤣🤣
Even short haired dogs need regular brushing as well. If they don't want to take the time to brush and bath their dog. They don't need a dog period!
Renee Brady well said👏👏👏 I agree 💯
He have definately been cut by a clipper, he remembers it poor dog. He will never trust a face clip again. Its so sad and you tried so hard to help him. I think owners have tried it and maybe cut his lips? Or mouth area? Well done for your attempt. I think he needs a bit of training by professional along with the owners. Xxxx
I think the same thing..something around his face and the clipper scares him terribly😢
Bless your heart 💕
😢I know
I have three havanese young male dog and I make sure I brush them every other day with a dry bath, clip their nails and clean their ears.
There are literally no words to describe how great I think you are. You are one in a million! a great BIG THANK YOU from Henrey!
I like how you ran your finger on his face with the clipper next to his ear. You did such a great job!
❤️
You are so patient with him. Poor baby must have had a very bad experience.
I really appreciated how you added your additional commentary after the fact and edited it throughout your video. It meant less time that a frightened Henry on the grooming table.
I started watching your channel this week, after this video, I'm hooked. Amazing. You are absolutely gifted.
You have the patience of a saint. I had one that was way worse aggression wise but not matted. It’s not fun.
Oh Precious Amy Leigh. I so, so love your kindness & compassion w/Henry!! Bless you & Sweet Henry!!❤🐾
Love how patient and kind you were to the dog. I see that in all of your videos. So nice!
God bless you
Just because the dog is aggressive doesn't mean it's the owners fault. This is why I hate groomers.
I have a very difficult dog to groom tomorrow so I feel your pain. You were wonderful.
Cynthia Cummings hugs!
You were beyond patient with Henry. Thank you
It’s heartbreaking when you know the dog is terrified and you also want to relieve them of the painful mats 😢
I wish all groomers displayed as much compassion and love as you do. I know groomers see some horrific things and animals can be very difficult, however I think sometimes they forget the dogs aren’t responsible for their conditions.
He seems like a great dog ! What a sweetheart. My dog won’t be as still as he’s is . Great work and kindness ❤
The kindest groomer I’ve seen here .
It’s vey hard to remain calm when working with a dog like this 🙏
Poor baby!!!
How did that first groom go?
You are the sweetest and thank you for making me smile today:) Cheers!
This made me cry, feel so bad for you both, but you did an awesome job.
tonides55 I know it’s sad:( but Henry and I ate both ok:) poor Henry is surly matted though as his owners don’t take care of his grooming needs 😥
I'd fly to where you are to get my little furbaby groomed. You are just so full of compassion and I'd trust you with my baby.
Wow, thank you
You are wonderful! This poor baby being so afraid around his face. Thank you for showing this and hope that some owners will see this and understand that it hurts for mat removal oh the poor baby. Bless you for making him i am sure feel better
Amy, omg. You put your all into this one. He must be feeling heaps better, poor guy. You're amazing!
It was a tough groom 🤪
Thank you for sharing this video of Henry. I hope all dog owners take this to heart and realize the importance of caring for their dogs. Loving and playing with your dog is just part of being a loving owner. It's no different than your own personal hygiene except it's your responsibility to care fore your dogs. Your fur baby is no different than caring for your human babying in the fact that they can't do it for themselves.
Poor little Henry. He seems so sweet, he’s just a baby. SHAME ON HIS OWNERS!!!!!
Thank you for your compassion and patience. I just can’t watch aggressive groomers it stresses me.
I understand
Mary Jane
mark Jones thank you 😊
Thank you so much for sharing.
I know how upsetting it is when we can't help them❤️

@@chrispeters5884 🥲
I love the way you treat this dog 🐕 💕.
Diane Meyer thank you💕 it’s hard when you can’t help them:(
Wow 😳 I commend you!
This dog is SO calm compairing to my shih tzu. Appreciate your patience.
This breaks my heart! Poor little guy!
Nicely done Amy. He has to feel so much better. I often wonder if dogs like this process later and can put together the experience with no more pain.? I hope the pet parents can watch this and learn, see and do better so Henry doesn't have to experience this again. Great job!
Yes:) Thank you my friend:)
Poor baby Henry !!! You are amazing !!!!!!!
Thank you for this❤️Hugs!
Loved the mike-drop at the end of the video.
