Since I have had so many maltese and shih tau dogs, this dog has been mistreated or is neglected. He is very scared of being hurt. This baby is not being adored at home as his hair is so matted. Very sad. There are so many who would love this baby.

I know this is an old video, but I have a 13-year-old Shih Tzu who has bitten every groomer we have taken her to. Thank you for this very helpful video.
I have started grooming her myself. The vet prescribed meds that sedate her to the point that she is sleeping!
It would be hard to get her to a groomer like this. I did a full groom yesterday for the first time I did OK on her body, but her face, not so much! I will keep watching these videos and practicing Thank you again! One more thing, I didn’t trim her nails. I was too scared!

This is the sillest thing.... but I just have to say that those are the best nail clippers ever lol. In 15 years grooming I've NEVER had nail clippers perform so well, feel so comfortable in the hand and stay sharp so dang long! No lie...I'm running on like 7 or 8 years with the same pair and they still cut awesome 😂👌🏼. I'm about to treat myself to a new set (the color you have) just for fun. It's insane that they've been so good for so long😂. Anyway, good job with that little one! I don't like working with medicated pets (sometimes they're more difficult to deal with than when they're NOT medicated haha) but some dogs definitely need it and I'm glad there's groomers like you out there. Hopefully, it was just a rough patch in the owner's life and now that you sorted him out, they'll keep up with regular grooming 🥰. I wish you were a little closer because my shop has plenty of clients like this dog that need someone like you!

I have a bishon. She is a joy. I used to get her groomed and then I bought a kit and watched how to groom and Ive been doing my dogs hair for 14 years. Hair dogs are a little bit of maintenance because of the hair rather then fur. If you dont brush them daily, they become very matted, Poor baby. You both did such a good job...

That duck muzzel worked pretty good. Ive seen them for sale on the internet and thought they were just a novelty. But maybe i could use one. One of my girls nips at people. They are rescues and have some undesirable habits. I have two chihuahuas and their faces are too small for 'normal' muzzels. Ive also recently bought clippers as I want to do their sanitary areas and feet. Thank you for this video. You did a great job considering his feisty nature.

As a professional groomer, the caretaker fondling the dog's pubic hair at 6:21 and 1:50 was...unnerving, yet, a perfect personification of the passion exhibited by these groomers. Maybe request a consent form before carrying out this act of intimacy? Just looking out for Shih "The Pringle" Zhu (my dog by the way!). And Rest in Peace to the lovely woman on the left, groomed but not forgotten. My little Zhu was so calm after she worked with him. Thank you.

Have you tried using a groomers harness? Fear Free certified grioner Suzanne who is o TH-cam made them. It's instead of using the loop seat belt style.
They would probably be freat if you could get the dogs harnessed obviously.
You could safely anchor him with minimal stress if you used one.

This is my dog here , same breed to , I cannot find a groomer to groom him period so I have to do it, also why does my shih tzu have red staining so bad around his eyes, mouth and feet, I heard another groomer say it’s something with the liver enzymes, don’t quote me on this though and what do you use to get rid of them, ive use distilled water as well with no luck

  • @cmclaren7

I think sometimes medications can make them more aggressive. They can feel out of control and become more aggressive in an effort to regain control. Also, I know that humans can experience effects that are the opposite of what the drug was supposed to do. I'm sure dogs can have the same experience. Drugs taken to calm down can make people excited. I would guess they can have the same effect on dogs.
All of you did a great job with this little guy.

My thoughts exactly! Great job ladies. I think part of the fear came from not being able to see and an adverse reaction to the medication! Not to mention the pain from all the knots pulling at his skin.. :( Hopefully the owners will keep a regular grooming schedule and NOT let him get like that again!!!

I agree. 💯 Should not have been neglected like this in the first place. Not a very good responsible pet owner. Hopefully you informed the pet parent that they need to be brushed daily or at least every few days to prevent this. No matter the breed I'm not a fan of all that hair around the face. They did a good job on him though. 👏

Animals become aggressive because they have bad experiences with humans , speak softly , calmly , touch softer and calmer , talking too much and loudly stresses the animal , grooming the animal is torture , they have to stop breathing properly because of these devices , you have to be very calm affection with them .

I don‘t like it that the groomers laugh about the dogs behaviour. The dog ist really in a poor position, he is the victim of bad maintenance by the owner and a lack of handling training from the beginning. There are reasons why the dog is aggressive. Aggression is a normal behaviour when dogs desire distance for which ever reason. A fully matted dog has probably pain. I cannot understand how people wait so long with grooming such dog. Why are you posting such videos?

What a horrible dog! Definitely would have taken it to the vet

I would guess that dog is aggressive because he's been abused.

Usually that is NOT the case. There are many reasons a dog can be aggressive from genetics,to poor or lack of socialization or pain or fear/ anxiety or veterinary problems. There are many protocols that veterinary behaviorists and good trainers can use to mitigate such issues.. But the longer the dog learns that his behavior keeps people at bay ,the behavior gets rewarded and it's a vicious cycle. A good experience like this help a lot also. When people assume the dog has been abused, they often will accept the behavior as " normal". They feel sorry for the dog and neglect the needed behavior modification. It is amazing how so many dogs that are abused or neglected are still loving and trustful. Certainly abuse may be the cause of some unwanted behaviors, but owners must look beyond that to problem solve

I think we have to stop breeding dogs that need haircuts. There are too many breeds that need it now. My apologies to the people who make a living in the grooming industry. 😊

So let me get this straight.. 🤔 your suggestion is to have these "real haired dogs" become an endangered species/breed since the require grooming & basic hygiene... Should we then Celebrate when these dog breeds become extinct? ... Well guess what... Even dog breeds that shed require grooming & hygiene/care 🤯 What a ridiculously stupid comment/suggestion to say the least !!! I suppose in your opinion we as humans should stop reproducing life because babies require diaper changes & 24/7 care & attention?? 👼🤺 This particular breed of dog goes back at least 1,000 years 🤓 Those blessed owners back 1,000 years ago lived through having to groom & care for these dogs with God knows what tools they had back then .... 🤯 This breed is Loyal & loving like no other especially with their owner !! My little 8 pound guy's job 365 days a year is spent protecting me & adoring me !! I'm his Queen 👑 !! And trust me the feeling is very mutual between the two of us!!! In fact I read my dog this ridiculous comment, & he's thoroughly embarrassed for you !!! 🥸 Him & I both take huge offense at the mere suggestion of possibly making this loyal & loving dog breed extinct especially at the argument of, requiring simple care & hygiene... Like damn your cut throat .... 😈 I bet your one of those people dog's growl at & give you those side eyes 👀!!! 🐶🤡 I'll speak for this breed of dogs & well all breeds and say guess what why don't you do us all a favor & never take one of us home to "have to care for us" !! In fact you should probably stay away from the ever becoming a parent of any kind if you think a form of life that offers loyalty, love, & protection to the human race, should " be made extinct"!! Hopefully it's not too late 4 you !! 🫣🤡 Not that it would mean anything to you, minutes after reading your ridiculous comment, my dog still has a look of disgust & is getting ready to protest so he'll be prepared if & when the time comes that humans look to make his breed & others extinct, simply because they require to be groomed.... It's not his fault ??? 🐶👑🤡

One more thing, I did not trim her nails. I was too afraid.
