I'd rather have some money left-over for fuel on the ride home. Harley's are iconic but no longer attainable for the average rider, which is a shame. Royal Enfield, on the other hand, are bringing in new riders and showing that riding a nice, well-made bike doesn't have to be an overly-expensive undertaking.
The sport glide has more than a liter more engine displacement. Brembo Brakes, Belt drive, Fit and finish, hundreds of aftermarket and factory accessories. I do agree though that having a Super Meteor, Continental GT, and Himalayan would better suit all my riding wants.
I ride a Meteor 350, and love it. But I have to say, that Harley oozes class and holds such grace. I can see what you get for your money. Beautiful. But ultimately a bike is to be ridden and for me, I’m happy on any two wheel machine.
G’day Willy, I sold my beautiful ultra classic earlier this year, for reasons I won’t go into publicly, I now own both 120 anniversary models of RE, interceptor & GT Continental, also a Tribute 500, and a Motor Guzzi V7 special. I miss my Harley & wish I still had her. Having said that, I am actually enjoying the RE’s & Motor Guzzi more than the Harley. Cost of the Harley for services, tyres etc. was outrageous. I believe owning all the other bikes combined will come to similar $$ to the one Harley. Probably a little more, however at this stage I don’t think a lot more$$. Also I have found I am no longer trying to be the Harley Boy, I can just relax & be myself. I didn’t realise how much my personality changed, not for the better, perhaps I shouldn’t admit that publicly although it is a true statement. I owned that Harley for 10 years, I’ve also owned other Harleys in my near 50 years of riding. Loved them all, however at the moment I feel I was more pose than being myself. Enjoy the beautiful machines you own. Don’t let the green eyed monster guide you. I suppose I have found a lot of attitude with Harley ownership, and I have probably finally grown out of that. I would like to say more, however my aim is not to cause issues, just to inform you of my experience. Ride safe, shiny side up mate. Hooroo for now 🏍😎👍

Both nice bikes but even though I'm no Harley fan my money would go on the Sport Glide. In the cruiser world there really is nothing that sounds like a Harley and nothing quite has the cool factor of a Harley. I think that no matter how long you keep the Harley it will always feel special when you get on it but you will always have to live with the extra costs of Harley ownership.
Before I had my first Harley, I used to think that you wouldn't notice the rain, but you do, it still gets cold and wet, just the same, the sound does little to change that.
The Harley of course, but not everyone has that much cash to splash. The RE still looks a bit untidy and cluttered to me (eg. the footrest hangers), but I'm sure just like Harley's you'll be able to buy billet aftermarket parts to replace them. For the money the RE is a great buy, I'm looking forward to something more bobberish from RE and then I might replace my ageing XV1600.
Yes the green/gold SM is stunning 😍 in fact that was the colour I originally wanted...but the Astral Green one I bought is equally as beautiful (imo) and was cheaper! Ride safe buddy 🙏
and again i have seen harley performing in US freeways at 90-100 mph with absolute ease , it is made for demanding US freeways where you need to ride whole day to cross different geography and might not suit European needs, very problematic for indian conditions too
The HD Sport Glide is a beautiful bike, no doubt. But the RE is priced for us "regular chaps." I'd much rather have 3-4 different bikes than just one 😅
I think it would look amazing on the Super meteor !👍 but doubt very much it would fit as the harley has quite a specific mechanism for holding on to the frame

Harley's are way over priced, purely down to Harley Davidson doing a fantastic job in promoting the brand, paying the prices they charge can't be justified, crazy to think how many bikes you can buy for the same price as that Harley......But this sound !!! The Super Meteor does sound impressive and that is on stock pipes !!!! 😀The Super Meteor is the bike Harley Davidson should have built.....they have missed out on an opening in the bike market. Should add, I have got a Super Meteor in Astral Black, it's an awesome bike. 😀
Meteor is a good bike no arguments. The Harley is an iconic brand, and i think worth the having. You could fill your garage with Enfields as you say, for the price of 1. Until though, we can take cash with us beyond the grave, I'll have the Harley lol Rks, is my weapon of choice for 4 years+ now and love it. Safe rides mate....🤙🥂🍻
I've had three Harley Davidsons and they're great bikes. But, very expensive. Perhaps over-engineered. The Super Meteor 650 is extremely good value and will do anything the Harley will and be more tolerant of the weather here in Blighty. But, if you want a Harley Davidson, only a Harley will do.
I love all bikes but recently I have been really looking at the triumph speedmaster ,this bike has alot going for it and yes a bit on higher end but your getting alot of quality tech and performance and suspension comfort .But again the meteor for the money cant be beat especially for a new rider getting in the criuser world

Harley is a very nice bike, but it comes down to value. One dream bike that you can only use for certain things or a couple of different bikes that cover everything. 👍
I just bought the royal enfield super meteor 650 in green. I have to wait now for about 2 weeks to be delivered… I thinks it’s a beauty and you get a lot of bike for your money.
i've spent quite a lot of my life in India and had plenty of Enfields and loved em all, 350s, 500s, 535s and they have all literally been dirt cheap throw away money and i've experienced the best biking i've ever experienced in my life whether in the south or up in the Himalaya's. I just couldn't bring myself to spend Harley money on a bike, currently riding a Yam xv1700 road star which i picked up for £5500 with 4k miles on the clock, batwing, crash bars, riders backrest etc, probably the best bike i've ever had, would i swap it for a brand new Harley, not a chance, would i swap it for a brand new Enfield, yeah i probably would.

Sucks that they discontinued the Sport Glide here in the United States. It's probably the only Harley I'd be really interested in. Certainly don't think the Sport Glide is three times the bike what the Super Meteor is, so as far as bang for your buck that Super Meteor is incredible! You already got a sissy bar, so just throw on some saddlebags and a windscreen or fairing and that bike will do anything a Sport Glide will do for you!
I own a Low Rider 107, beautiful bike and a real head turner. However, it is heavy and expensive to buy and maintain. I find myself constantly watching Royal Enfield and Triumph videos and even visiting my local triumph dealership!
How about a Triumph Speedmaster Mark? I had one a couple of years ago and it was stunning (there's some videos I did if u go back) or then for half the price theres the Royal Enfield super meteor 650...pretty much half the price but definitely not half the bike!
@@2wheeledwillie395 Yes I like the Speedmaster except it is not so dissimilar to the Low Rider. If it were to be a Triumph it would be the classic T100, gorgeous bike. Love the Classic 350. I’ve got two Harley’s and just got rid of a triumph scrambler 1200 ( 2021) one Harley I’ve had for 12 years. Which bike needed to go back to the dealership for warranty repairs… yes. The Triumph. Bikes can a do breakdown. Harley’s no more than other brands.

I can see some folks modding the S.M into a bobber, it’s def got potential..and to be fair I’d be surprised if R.E don’t do a ‘bobber model’ at some point in the future based on how well received the S.M seems to be. As for the Harley - yup it’s def a bike I wouldn’t say no to…if I won the lottery or someone bought it for me hahaha but with my own money? Gotta be the R.E hands down - after all, it may be built in India, but it’s still an original British brand and that’s way better imho (no bias here what so ever lol) Great vid mate

I have made my choice… for the price of 1.5 Meteors I’d have a Harley Shovelhead. Still makes the proper Harley sounds and a legal proper volume. Does not depriciate anymore. Parts are plentiful and the bike is easy to work on with just basic tools. If I would need to choose a new bike I would also consider the Meteor 350.
To be honest, I think I'd feel a bit self-conscious on the Harley. It's probably just me, but it's a bit too "in-your-face" flash for my taste. The Super Meteor is more understated - perhaps more in line with British aesthetics. It doesn't shout about it the way the Harley does, but it's absolutely gorgeous IMO.
I'm hoping Royal Enfield do a big single, like the old Panther. Not many large thumpers about, and none in retro trim. They'd sell a ship load in the UK.
Hm, I tried the Super Meteor and a Classic 350. Due to the feet forward on the Super Meteor, I got a much more bumpy ride on it than on the over 50 kg lighter Classic. I believe a Classic 650 will be my next bike when it arrives!
@@mikaelpettersson2389 I absolutely LOVE the feet forward controls on the SM 650 and the 220 mile ride down to Devon was pain-free BUT I too will be buying a Classic 650 when they arrive!
@@2wheeledwillie395 yea, feet forward needs a few km to get used to if normally driving with the feet backwards 😄 But I can imagine that it's comfy on a long trip. My knees feel urgently in a need for a stretch if driving for more than 1,5 hours in one go...
Only thing putting me off the RE is the 2nd hand value of their bikes, I dont want to loose £££ after I bought one. but I guess that the number of people buying them is testiment to how good they are.
Hi Andy, There are definitely a few secondhand ones popping up for sale with next to no mileage,that might be an option?... If you buy brand new you're always going to loose quite a bit but I think that applies to any manufacturer not just Royal Enfield ...I had a panic about resale value on it (because I thought I'd probably trade it in for the 650 Classic when it's released) but I think that the Super meteor has got under my skin enough to hang onto it long term plus I'm very tall so it's mega comfortable 👍

@2wheeledwillie395 I found out about this bike a couple of weeks ago. I have been doing tons of research on this bike. I contacted my local royal Enfield dealership and they said they will be getting them in January. I am going to try and save up the 7,000 dollars U.S by then. January is pretty cold in Idaho, so I will just wear my skiing gear to go test ride it.

You won't be sorry buddy...its a massive step up from anything Royal Enfield have previously done and although the engine is the same as the Interceptor/GT Contental they've remapped it on the Super meteor and given it a different air filter and it means you get 80% peak power at 2500rpm and imo (having previously owned an interceptor) it's SO much better
Like the Super Meteor 650, but I’m afraid, at 88.98 inches overall length, it would disappear up my . . . beast of burden. Compare that Sport Glide at 91.54 inches overall length. My Springfield is 101.7 inches. I like many of the HD motorcycles, but their corporate gestalt is annoying. I like the RE ethic and many of their bikes, but they’re too small for me (elephant on minibike). Size matters.
I had a Fat Boy, and now i have RE classic 500, it comes down to if you can afford for the times you don't ride the machine, on my first sportster i did 15 k in the first year, on my fat boy i did 15 k in 9 years, on my classic i have done 6 k in 6 years, but thats all right, it's cheap and paid for.
I was going to purchase a RE Super meteor but after having a test drive I chose to buy a 25 year old Honda shadow 750 because the drive, quality and technology was better.
Given the horsepower output, calling the Royal Enfield the “Meteor” does seem a tad optimistic!😆I don’t mind the looks of the Royal Enfield bikes, but the Classic range is the only one that makes any sense to me. A true retro. Put a 70/90bhp engine in the Interceptor and I might get intetested. A better comparison for the Meteor may have been with the old Harley Evolution Sportster as that has around 60+bhp, and its design is closer to what the Meteor is trying to be, but comparing the Sport Glide is not really fair!.
Hey Peter... You do realise you can compare ANY bike right? They don't have to be similar in any way, they just need to be bikes! The question I was making was is the Harley 3 times better than the Super Meteor (as it's almost 3 times more expensive) yes if what you need in a bike is 70/90bhp then Royal Enfields definitely aren't for you

Harleys aren't really my gig but a Speed Master for me would be the alternative but a bit pricey 😕 My SM I find is great and yes more torque than the 650 GT I own, the DNA filter and less restrictive cans improve it again and sound awesome 😁 Love riding mine 🙂

@@2wheeledwillie395 got a 2008 bullet iron barrel in my shed that needs a new transmission w/ 5000 miles on it, that has never seen 60 mph. Was in the motorcycle industry for 30 years, ridden 1000's of bikes. The new ones may be great but the iron barrel, Indian market bikes...better have a truck follow you. Back to mu Harley!

@@2wheeledwillie395 Don’t wanna criticize your decision, just show up that there‘re always opportunities to go for… I bought my Sportster used 4 years ago and there was no SuperMeteor at this time… …maybe my decision would have been different … I really like the SuperMeteor and think it is a good replacement for the now gone Sportster at the market, especially the 883. Had the possibility to test ride one at my local dealer and was impressed - only downside for me is the higher COG in all other parts the Enfield is equal or better as an 883

Tge diffetence when you visit a harley showroom and a RE showroom.... In RE...you look at the bikes and feel "great looking bikes..i can afford them". Regarding Harley...its not for everyone..atleast the price keeps many out

I have friedds with both Royal Enfields and Harleys and they say that on the RE they need to 'plan' their overtakes. And I am sorry but as an aspirational bike the Meteor is not even in the same class. It's like saying I have a Ford Focus and compare it to a AMG Mercedes. Not in the same class...and a Harley gives you an internal feeling lkike no other. It's a bit like a old VW camper...they're just cool

@kennyboy1215 Just on the UK warranty claims 2022. It doesn't tell the whole picture of course because claims are of different seriousness. It really is noticeable touring though that neither brands seem to be the weapon of choice for long tours in Europe. Also in the UK HD's seem to be mainly used for a run to the cafe, whereas when i lived in the states 20 years ago they were used for everything and were the default choice. I've no axe to grind as I own neither RE or HD. Funnily enough guess who was bottom of the table of big brands warranty claims by a long way? Indian. Surprised me.
Reality check time. Harleys are grossly over priced! The quality, reliability, and maintenance are costly. Their dealer network sucks! I've road with several Harley owners, and they spend LOTS of money in upgrades and repairs. I've ridden several Harleys. Lots of vibration, poor handling, and lousy brakes. And for how much...? I guess if I was Bill Gates, and had my tow truck driver on speed dial! I think I'll buy a RE Meteor 650, and several other bikes to fill up my garage.
The enfield all day. The Harley looks and is, overweight, underpowered and over priced. Buy the SM and spend the money saved on enjoying life not fixing a Harley 😁

Even the 107 only produce 90bhp and the "top of the range" 114 are 100hp.the new zx6r pushes 120bhp and that's just over 600cc. Old,dated,over priced. Fully loaded with holiday luggage, it has the power and torque to take you anywhere. It doesn't lose money either in residual value, in comparison with most others. Underpowered you say? Another talking down, what they know nothing about more like!.
Some people are willing to pay ridiculous amounts for Kelvin Kline underpants, are they better than the brand your wearing? You can say the same for Nike shoes or any designer item. Unfortunately Harley has become a designer brand too and the reason for owning one is more about status than practicality or price. RIP Harley Davidson

Harley's are way over priced, purely down to Harley Davidson doing a fantastic job in promoting the brand, paying the prices they charge can't be justified, crazy to think how many bikes you can buy for the same price as that Harley......But this sound !!! The Super Meteor does sound impressive and that is on stock pipes !!!! 😀The Super Meteor is the bike Harley Davidson should have built.....they have missed out on an opening in the bike market. Should add, I have got a Super Meteor in Astral Black, it's an awesome bike. 😀

I've had three Harley Davidsons and they're great bikes. But, very expensive. Perhaps over-engineered. The Super Meteor 650 is extremely good value and will do anything the Harley will and be more tolerant of the weather here in Blighty. But, if you want a Harley Davidson, only a Harley will do.

I love all bikes but recently I have been really looking at the triumph speedmaster ,this bike has alot going for it and yes a bit on higher end but your getting alot of quality tech and performance and suspension comfort .But again the meteor for the money cant be beat especially for a new rider getting in the criuser world

i've spent quite a lot of my life in India and had plenty of Enfields and loved em all, 350s, 500s, 535s and they have all literally been dirt cheap throw away money and i've experienced the best biking i've ever experienced in my life whether in the south or up in the Himalaya's. I just couldn't bring myself to spend Harley money on a bike, currently riding a Yam xv1700 road star which i picked up for £5500 with 4k miles on the clock, batwing, crash bars, riders backrest etc, probably the best bike i've ever had, would i swap it for a brand new Harley, not a chance, would i swap it for a brand new Enfield, yeah i probably would.

Sucks that they discontinued the Sport Glide here in the United States. It's probably the only Harley I'd be really interested in. Certainly don't think the Sport Glide is three times the bike what the Super Meteor is, so as far as bang for your buck that Super Meteor is incredible! You already got a sissy bar, so just throw on some saddlebags and a windscreen or fairing and that bike will do anything a Sport Glide will do for you!

I own a Low Rider 107, beautiful bike and a real head turner. However, it is heavy and expensive to buy and maintain. I find myself constantly watching Royal Enfield and Triumph videos and even visiting my local triumph dealership!
How about a Triumph Speedmaster Mark? I had one a couple of years ago and it was stunning (there's some videos I did if u go back) or then for half the price theres the Royal Enfield super meteor 650...pretty much half the price but definitely not half the bike!

I’ve got two Harley’s and just got rid of a triumph scrambler 1200 ( 2021) one Harley I’ve had for 12 years. Which bike needed to go back to the dealership for warranty repairs… yes. The Triumph. Bikes can a do breakdown. Harley’s no more than other brands.

I have made my choice… for the price of 1.5 Meteors I’d have a Harley Shovelhead. Still makes the proper Harley sounds and a legal proper volume. Does not depriciate anymore. Parts are plentiful and the bike is easy to work on with just basic tools. If I would need to choose a new bike I would also consider the Meteor 350.

To be honest, I think I'd feel a bit self-conscious on the Harley. It's probably just me, but it's a bit too "in-your-face" flash for my taste. The Super Meteor is more understated - perhaps more in line with British aesthetics. It doesn't shout about it the way the Harley does, but it's absolutely gorgeous IMO.

Hm, I tried the Super Meteor and a Classic 350. Due to the feet forward on the Super Meteor, I got a much more bumpy ride on it than on the over 50 kg lighter Classic. I believe a Classic 650 will be my next bike when it arrives!
@@mikaelpettersson2389 I absolutely LOVE the feet forward controls on the SM 650 and the 220 mile ride down to Devon was pain-free BUT I too will be buying a Classic 650 when they arrive!

Only thing putting me off the RE is the 2nd hand value of their bikes, I dont want to loose £££ after I bought one. but I guess that the number of people buying them is testiment to how good they are.
Hi Andy, There are definitely a few secondhand ones popping up for sale with next to no mileage,that might be an option?... If you buy brand new you're always going to loose quite a bit but I think that applies to any manufacturer not just Royal Enfield ...I had a panic about resale value on it (because I thought I'd probably trade it in for the 650 Classic when it's released) but I think that the Super meteor has got under my skin enough to hang onto it long term plus I'm very tall so it's mega comfortable 👍

I contacted my local royal Enfield dealership and they said they will be getting them in January. I am going to try and save up the 7,000 dollars U.S by then. January is pretty cold in Idaho, so I will just wear my skiing gear to go test ride it.

You won't be sorry buddy...its a massive step up from anything Royal Enfield have previously done and although the engine is the same as the Interceptor/GT Contental they've remapped it on the Super meteor and given it a different air filter and it means you get 80% peak power at 2500rpm and imo (having previously owned an interceptor) it's SO much better

Like the Super Meteor 650, but I’m afraid, at 88.98 inches overall length, it would disappear up my . . . beast of burden. Compare that Sport Glide at 91.54 inches overall length. My Springfield is 101.7 inches. I like many of the HD motorcycles, but their corporate gestalt is annoying. I like the RE ethic and many of their bikes, but they’re too small for me (elephant on minibike). Size matters.

I had a Fat Boy, and now i have RE classic 500, it comes down to if you can afford for the times you don't ride the machine, on my first sportster i did 15 k in the first year, on my fat boy i did 15 k in 9 years, on my classic i have done 6 k in 6 years, but thats all right, it's cheap and paid for.

Given the horsepower output, calling the Royal Enfield the “Meteor” does seem a tad optimistic!😆I don’t mind the looks of the Royal Enfield bikes, but the Classic range is the only one that makes any sense to me. A true retro. Put a 70/90bhp engine in the Interceptor and I might get intetested. A better comparison for the Meteor may have been with the old Harley Evolution Sportster as that has around 60+bhp, and its design is closer to what the Meteor is trying to be, but comparing the Sport Glide is not really fair!.

Was in the motorcycle industry for 30 years, ridden 1000's of bikes. The new ones may be great but the iron barrel, Indian market bikes...better have a truck follow you. Back to mu Harley!

I really like the SuperMeteor and think it is a good replacement for the now gone Sportster at the market, especially the 883.
Had the possibility to test ride one at my local dealer and was impressed - only downside for me is the higher COG in all other parts the Enfield is equal or better as an 883

I have friedds with both Royal Enfields and Harleys and they say that on the RE they need to 'plan' their overtakes. And I am sorry but as an aspirational bike the Meteor is not even in the same class. It's like saying I have a Ford Focus and compare it to a AMG Mercedes. @kennyboy1215 Just on the UK warranty claims 2022. It doesn't tell the whole picture of course because claims are of different seriousness. It really is noticeable touring though that neither brands seem to be the weapon of choice for long tours in Europe. Also in the UK HD's seem to be mainly used for a run to the cafe, whereas when i lived in the states 20 years ago they were used for everything and were the default choice. I've no axe to grind as I own neither RE or HD. Funnily enough guess who was bottom of the table of big brands warranty claims by a long way? Indian. Surprised me.

Reality check time. Harleys are grossly over priced! The quality, reliability, and maintenance are costly. Their dealer network sucks! I've road with several Harley owners, and they spend LOTS of money in upgrades and repairs. I've ridden several Harleys. Lots of vibration, poor handling, and lousy brakes. And for how much...? I guess if I was Bill Gates, and had my tow truck driver on speed dial! I think I'll buy a RE Meteor 650, and several other bikes to fill up my garage.

Even the 107 only produce 90bhp and the "top of the range" 114 are 100hp.the new zx6r pushes 120bhp and that's just over 600cc.
