  • Some more ArcDroid action. My laser alignment mod. And a sign cut that has a bit of a hiccup.

Nice tip on re-running the program with torch off until you get to the fail point. I will be stealing that one for sure!

It comes in handy. I've even started in the middle of a cut line. It's not pretty but can save your piece from the scrap pile.

If only you'd have shown how you used the laser to re-zero after the emergency stop

I didn't re-zero. Just ran the file again. If you hit stop while it's either in a vertical move or at a pause point it's highly unlikely you'll lose any steps so the zero is the same.

Great video! Do you have a source for (or willing to sharethe file for) the 3d printed laser guide/holder?

Sure, I can share it. I'll take a look later and see if I can find the stl. I'll comment back with a link if I'm successful.

Hi great vid as usual. However it wasn’t really clear to me exactly what the height problem was? It sounded like maybe you claim the bicycle cable is not letting the torch drop down? I don’t really understand how that happens. If true, this is a design flaw that ArcDroid needs to fix.

It senses the material surface through the load on the cable. When there's no more load on the cable, the machine thinks the torch has made contact with your cut surface. As you get towards the cut area limits, the cable can bind a bit and it thinks it's at the cut surface when it's not. This can also happen if your z axis rails are not clean.
The solution is to clean your rails. Or move the adjustable Z assembly down some via the adjustable V block.

@@amp_mechanic thanks for the clarification! So this is at least a bit irritating albeit if it’s due solely to dirt on the rails, I suppose the lesson is to keep your machine clean. Still, this sounds like maybe not necessarily a machine design defect, but maybe we call it an area for improvement ;-). Really love all you ArcDroid videos! I am cleaning and organizing a new shop after a flood and now plan to buy an Arc Droid (NEVER use anything but stainless steel braided water lines going from the shut off valve to the toilet, AND with stainless steel couplers as well! Idid not make such a dumb mistake, but the prior owner of the building did, and I was a dummy for not checking for this plumbing vulnerability: now everyone go and check your toilets and sink lines! )

Heads up for Alibre users. Their CAD does not support plasma. Doing my best to warn you all.
