Im from Poland and Im so proud we finally have such high quality watercolor line. Not to mention how affordable they are. For example cobalt teal is identical quality to WN professional, and while 5ml of WN is around 26PLN i bought full pan of RS for 14PLN (it was last year, inflation hit since then). I absolutely love them.
Their price point is amazing! I forgot to mention it in the voiceover, but there are two slides in there of the ultramarine versus the cerulean showing the range of cost.
you should be proud of your countryman producing these lovely paints and like you say, such great value! I've just bought a range of 26 colours and can afford to watch videos like this one and think about expanding my collection without crying from the pain in my wallet! LOL
Congratulations Poland 🇵🇱!!. The talented, hard-working people in this country have so much to offer. The paints look fabulous. I would love to see 1/2 pans offered. I am not a professional artist & only paint small projects. The Karin markers are also popular here right now and have been receiving good reviews. Off topic: Poland remains one of the few countries you can safely visit as a tourist. It’s clean, with great food & beautiful scenery.
I bought a large selection last month, and I’ve been really happy with them, particularly the earth tones. Quinacridone Gold, Mummy transparent red, Quinacridone burnt Sienna, Transparent brown, flesh tint, and the Naples yellows, they’re all amazing. I’ve never been an earth tone type of person, always appreciating the bright colours first, but the Roman Szmal have made it impossible not to love them.
"That wash is freaking gorgeous" no kidding, oh my goodness, it's too beautiful. Even though you had to fight it so much, you got a great result. Even more impressive though, using paints that fought your style, depicting a subject you're not familiar/comfortable with, and still making something AMAZING. Just. 💕
This painting is gorgeous. The brand has turned into my favorite. For the reason you weren't comfortable with them. I paint abstract and then draw out the shapes the paint creates. So I don't fight with it. I also have used them so much that I figured out how much, or little paint I can use to get soft effects when I want them. But these suit my style really well.
I ordered their sample palette last year, and am now putting together a personal palette. And you are correct about the washes. My first experience, which was supposed to be a wash in a small area, ended up covering half the sheet of paper! This forces me to be very disciplined when I paint, but the results are beautiful. I really like this brand, despite the fact that it requires a little focus to use. And I’m good with that! Great, honest review. Thanks!
I've seen the Mineral Violet compared to Daniel Smith's Rose of Ultramarine many times; however, it's actually closer to Imperial Purple, which is the more blue-leaning combo of those pigments. That said, I've been enjoying these paints so far, and have made up a nice palette of them. Glad to see you back!
I adore the granulation, pigmentation and re-wettability (totally a word) of these paints. On paper they're the perfect fusion between my 2 favourite brands, Sennelier and Daniel Smith. I have found them a little tricky to get used to for pure watercolour though. Thank you so much for articulating what you found challenging about these as I'm too inexperienced to have figured out what was going on myself. I have got along wonderfully with them for sketchbook work, looser abstract stuff and illustrative, linework based paintings though... exactly as you said I would. Beautiful painting as always, love the horns 😊. Glad to see you back and hopefully feeling a little better.
Oh gosh, I have been away from TH-cam - WOW, it is SO GOOD to hear your voice! I'm so glad that you are back! Really happy that you are doing a bit better now, we all love you!
Wonderful painting!! My son plays D&D and got me watching Critical Role (loved your music selection as well). I have to agree that Shadow Violet is stunning as well as the Aquarius Green. Glad to see you back...one day at a time is all we can do 💖
Aww yay! Thank you Francine. I'm glad you liked the music too! I know it's a bit different from my usual, but I needed something that felt more like him :)
I was so excited when I saw your Instagram story this morning - I've missed your videos ❤️ I 100% understand that you needed a break, of course, this year has been... Well. 2020. A creator taking a mental health break (or, honestly, just a normal vacation : everyone needs time off work!) will have my unconditional support. The wait just makes the return all that much sweeter 😁 I've been looking at these paints for a while - I don't know how many times I've watched Oto's video series, it must be a good dozen or so by now. I'll probably end up getting mostly the more unusual pigments and paints, since I don't really need to fill up on the basics right now. I haven't watched/listened to Critical Role yet - my friend's been super into it for ages and I keep meaning to check it out. I've heard so much good about it,. though. Your painting turned out beautiful, as always. I particularly love the subtle color changes in the skin tone - a lot of purple, but also reds and greens and it's all just so nice ❤️
This fanart looks GORGEOUS. Molly looks fantastic. He's my favorite from the series, and I was surprised to see you making fanart of him, but the piece turned out really well evwn with paints that were fighting you lol The bonus is the fact that you even posted this on a Thursday too XD
Thank you so much! It was a late night last night trying to get this video done but I thought it was too perfect that today was a Thursday so I made sure to get it done 🥰
good for you...maybe you are of Polish descent! I am loving them as well...but don't have any yet.Would there be any colours you could recommend to me...I like granulation...and have enough yellows and reds that never granulate, I need some specialty colours from the line May I ask where you purchased the whole set? Did it come in a special wooden box? Thanks in advance...Janis.
kookatsoonjan Hi Janis! I bought mine on line, they were not in a set but I did buy a box seperate and put them all in. It’s difficult to recommend any colours for someone else but check the FB page for Roman Szmal, their colourchart is really accurate. BR Helena
Denise, I know nothing about CritRole but you super made me want to pick it up. I'm delighted to see a full video from you and your palette selection is stunning as usual. I love your reviews because you really sit down and constructively criticize different brands while also highlighting their strengths. I hope things look better for you ASAP
I have these paints and I absolutely love them! I must admit, that I usually combine them with my daniel smith watercolors, and I never used them alone for whole painting... but I really like using them for creating the first shadow layer, it works very well. I may also add, that I use less water than you seem to do, but for me it was usually easy to get a soft edge.
I've been subbed for a while, and it makes me happy to see the coincidence of molly and a fellow critter!! Long may he reign and a wonderful art piece!
Simply amazing work! I cannot wait to get my print! all of the little details that you put on him that only a critter would understand. And always appreciate the well thought out review.
This is absolutely beautiful! I love it! I’m the one (black woman) who you so kindly encouraged to begin my art channel so now I encourage you...keep your head up. I know we find ourselves in such ugly times, but adversity is a bridge to growth. There’s something to learn, new paths to seek, or also a time of correction. So I encourage you to expect something great! Focus on what’s pure, lovely, kind, and of good report. If I can do it in the midst of all this sadness and oppression so can you! But at the same time take all the time you need. I’m rooting for you! Welcome back!!!
I love it when my fandoms collide! „Wait, that looks like Molly ... omg it is!“ 😁 I got so excited I am writing this comment before the video even started.
I have been looking forward to seeing this ever since you were posting process pics on insta :D To be honest, I wouldn’t have known who Mollymauk was but quarantine led me to discover the wonders of Critical Role. I’m a fairly new Critter and I have a lot of catching up to do still but I’ve been loving everything about the community. This turned out amazing, thank you for sharing with us
Denise, i love all of your videos and the way you research pigments and brands. But I have to say, this one made me so happy! I love D&D, blues and purples, and granulating/separating watercolor. And also recently purchased Roman Szmal for the first time (mainly the separating and granulating colors like Ocean Blue, Shadow Violet and Mineral Violet). This video is a beautiful demonstration of the fun than can be had with these paints. Thank you, it's always exciting when you post!
Glad to see you back! I love your videos and am happy to hear that you're taking care of yourself! I have been super curious about this brand and clicked on the video as soon as I got out of class!
So excited for your return! I’ve been loving off revisiting your color spotlight series! 2020 has been so difficult! I hope we all get through it in one piece. I enjoyed this painting and i’ll have to check out this critical role. I’m also planning to build a roman szmal palette and your insight is helpful. I want to paint more loosely so these paints seem great for that.
It looks perfect, understand that you struggle with people portraits but your progress in the matter is huge from one attempt to an other. Love the paints, love the fact that you are back and keep swimming, just a joy to see a video of you again, you are a sweet person/talented artist and love your calming voice. Thanks for making a difference in lots of our lives and not just with the high quality of the information you provide and artistic quality of your craft.... I play your videos in the background many times just because it bringsme to a happy place. I was missing you and your videos so much. Thank you
Happy to see you Denise. Glad you are feeling a bit better. Excellent review and info. Thank you so much. So very grateful as now I can see these are not the paints for me at this time. Take care.🥰
Don't know much (anything to be honest) about the game but I really enjoyed seeing you challenge yourself! The colors look stunning but I think I would go crazy trying to work with them. Just so happy to have you back here!
I’ll admit, I’m so tempted to put together a personal palette from some Roman Szmal Aquarius colors (I am at least somewhat a line-art type of person). Your painting turned out great!
really beautiful and still very recognisably your art even if it isn't your usual subject matter. You description of how the paints move reminds me of QOR watercolours. I have a hell of a time ever trying to soften off edges with some QOR paints
I'm a bit late to this one, but this was a pleasure to watch. I can understand you're thoughts on how it is working with the paint--I have a bit of a different style, but I think I would get frustrated by some of the same things. Then again, as long as I know what to expect, it would probably be fun to play with them... California is on fire so you're not missing much here, but I know it's a rough year all around. Keep taking care of yourself.
Not gonna lie, I was SO unbelievably happy when I saw a comment from you on a Critical Role video! Seeing this video come up for me in the morning in my subscriptions list made my day, and I LOVE the way you painted him! Thank you so much for painting the amazing circus man in these times, because I think his outlook on life feels more relevant now than ever.
Thank you Sierra! I'm so so happy to see so many Critters in the comments. I wasn't sure how he'd be received in my channel and it warms my heart to see so many fellow fans 💜
The painting is beautiful, I love how you build the colours. I have a dozen of their paints and they’re a favourite. I hadn’t noticed the edge issue, it’s probably there but I’d assume it was normal. I love cobalt teal and shadow violet most. Love your nail varnish btw.
@@InLiquidColor You definitely did! And it keeps on spreading! My boyfriend had also started watching/listening now. And it turns out he (him? 🤔) and his friends used to play as kids, so who knows, maybe they will be enticed as well.. 😁😍🥰 I'm so happy about this! YOU spread joy too, you know! (Just so you know.) Through this, of course, but also with every video you share with us, sharing yourself with us, and with all of your art. Okay. I am officially rambling. It's 4 am here right now haha! I'm gonna try and get some sleep! Thank you again! 💛
I do have those paints for a few weeks now and I am in love with them! You did a wonderful painting with these colours and I must agree that the pigmentation is incredible. :)
I found your channel because Stephanie Kilgast recommended you in her latest vid, then promptly discovered you're also a Critter. Fabulous watercolour content AND crit role? Super win!
Thank you so much for this video - glad that you're back. For Roman Szmal colors - of course I had to buy some and I dearly love them. As well as Rosa Gallery (from Ukraine), another great brand I recently discovered :)
That Molly turned out so amazing! I'm kind of glad you didn't paint fanart for Critical Role before I got into it - I wouldn't have been able to appreciate it as much as I do now! And seeing how detailed this painting is (those horns!), I totally understand how you spent 15 hours on it! I have Roman Szmal's Quinacridone Gold, which works well for me - but I have never used any other quin gold, so I can't really say if it works better or worse. I will say that I rarely use it on its own, so maybe the fact that it's either mixed with or layered under other colours might help reduce the flow and make it easier to soften off.
I'm so glad that you're back! And I was so happy to know that you're a big fan of CR as well! You said that Molly wasn't your favorite character and that immediately made me curious, who is your favorite from season 2? Mine is Jester. She is so sweet and absolutely hilarious
Jester for sure, but I admit I'm biased being a huge Laura Bailey fan since before I started watching CR, because of Jaina from the Warcraft games and Titansgrave 🥰
Glad to see you back Denise! I picked a very similar set of colours to you from this range, some of which I have come to love. I find myself reaching for them a lot. The Green Earth is probably the best pan green earth there is IMO. The Ocean Blue in which for me while it's a beautiful colour the brown never seems to separate out.
I'm glad they're working for you! I didn't get any of the cool separation on my swatch cards, but both on this hot pressed paper and the cold pressed I used for the tiger separated when I added a lot of water. Not sure of that's helpful to know!
My favorite art supply store retails aquarius and white nights watercolors. At the moment I use the student grade set made by white nights, sonnet. Like it , but when it starts to run out I will make the switch to artist grade. Not decided what brand, at the moment I am leaning towards white nights.
They're both great, affordable paints. White Nights has more control, while you can see here there is more range in color and granulation and they pack a lot of flow!
Love the way the paints reacted in the background..Considering faces are not your thing this has turned out absolutely beautiful ..I hope your friend liked it ..It’s beautifully painted 😀
I really like how this came out. I have been recommended you several times and am happy to see you back. I know this year and the depression it has caused has me too. Gentle hugs and much love sent your way. How is Cricket?
Hi Denise, thank you for the wonderful review and your honest opinion. It was fully visible in the video how you had to fight the paints a big, because they were spreading sooo much! And they are pretty. I'm still a little tempted to try them, even if they don't fit my style of painting either. I hope you feel better again and I'm glad to see you back! Have a great day!
Haha, I never tuned into Critical Role cos I usually prefer to be playing myself! But I gotta say I enjoyed seeing the fanart so much. I can never get enough D&D! And it was a great subject to see how the paints work too. I can see where they'd be a little tricky for the style you're doing, but I do a *very* loose, very impressionistic style with my paint so they seem like a good fit for me! So thank you for talking about that!
Welcome back! Can you please do a demo with Polina.bright vegan watercolor brushes? I love them and think you will too. There’s a slight learning curve, but they are amazing once you understand how they flow.
Your voice is so soothing. I love your videos in general but when I can’t sleep, I def watch your videos or Tati the beauty guru cuz her voice is relaxing too.
Glad to see you back. I have no idea what d&d is nor that show you're referring to, but I enjoy all of your videos and this was no exception. Hope you're doing alright.
I am thrilled that you are a fellow Critter! These paints are relatively cheap in my country, and for the price the quality is almost staggering. With all the pet hair I have floating around the house, I usually try to avoid honey-based paints that stay sticky, but I've made exceptions in this case (and Sennelier's) for some colours that I just had to get my hands on.
I love your videos and watching you work with these paints, I found oddly reassuring! I am no longer looking for paints that I must fight with! I can appreciate the granulated colors and flow but I just don’t have the patience for these kinds of paints. Ginny Di is a TH-cam creator who makes amazing videos and stunning Critical Role characters are featured often! Her Jester cracks me up, EVERYTIME!!! I am so glad you are posting and you know how much you have been missed! I could listen to your commentary about paints and pigment for even longer, but I understand that you gotta make video editing manageable, that’s my comment about the music. You are truly amazing and such a lovely young lady. Thank you for giving us a video with so much of everything. Please take care and be safe, have a lovely day.
ok so I wasn't blind, aquarius green IS similar to undersea green and I love itttttt. I hope I can find a local seller. I'll probably get the violets too (except dioxazine) and ocean blue (because I really like separating paints). 7:26 that tiger painting is so beautiful 🥰
Denise! I've missed you! I am so impressed with your depiction of the character! It is absolutely beautiful and entirely fantastic. You've done a gorgeous job, and I'm proud of you for stretching outside of your artistic comfort zone. ;) Has Arlee seen it yet? I, too, fell in love with these purples & have been drooling over them ever since Oto made her presentation. Being that I adore the aquazol movement of the QOR paints so much & am one for lots of granulation, I've been saving up to try a few of these out. As mainly a portrait artist, you know I do love seeing you tackle faces. Maybe I'll follow suit soon & try an animal piece. Blessings to you. 😘
Amazing Painting! We missed you. I had a question. Are these paints prone more to lifting? Also, the paints seemed a bit more opaque than the other brands. Do you think that thismay be due to their high pigment load?
Thank you Omkar. I did find them to be pretty lifting, as the close up shot of the background will show you. I don't know of it's every color from them, but it's certainly interesting to see. They have an insane amount of pigment so I definitely believe the opacity is for that reason, similar to MGraham.

Aww thank you for the high compliment, friend!

Thank you for the video Denise, it came at a perfect time when I needed something enjoyable to watch to cheer me up.

Honestly, this is my favorite thing you've painted ever
Thank you Kathy! That makes my CR-loving heart happy! :)
The painting is beautiful, I love how you build the colours. I have a dozen of their paints and they’re a favourite. I hadn’t noticed the edge issue, it’s probably there but I’d assume it was normal. I love cobalt teal and shadow violet most. Love your nail varnish btw.
Denise! I had no idea what Critical Role was, and now I'm hooked! Thank you! 😄
That makes my heart so happy to hear! I hope you love it!
@@InLiquidColor I DO love it. I can't seem to stop, haha! 😂 💜
@@hannahthufvesson ahhh 🥰🥰🥰 I'm so glad I could help spread the joy they create.
@@InLiquidColor You definitely did! And it keeps on spreading! My boyfriend had also started watching/listening now. And it turns out he (him? 🤔) and his friends used to play as kids, so who knows, maybe they will be enticed as well.. 😁😍🥰
I'm so happy about this! YOU spread joy too, you know! (Just so you know.) Through this, of course, but also with every video you share with us, sharing yourself with us, and with all of your art. Okay. I am officially rambling. It's 4 am here right now haha! I'm gonna try and get some sleep! Thank you again! 💛
@@hannahthufvesson 💜💜💜
This is amazing. I didn't even look at the title and knew it was mollymauk
I do have those paints for a few weeks now and I am in love with them! You did a wonderful painting with these colours and I must agree that the pigmentation is incredible. :)
Rest in the star mollymouk , we will miss you 💕
also the washes an the texture are amazing thankies for the review
I found your channel because Stephanie Kilgast recommended you in her latest vid, then promptly discovered you're also a Critter. Fabulous watercolour content AND crit role? Super win!
Oh, man, I want these now! Thanks for the awesome review.
Thank you so much for this video - glad that you're back. For Roman Szmal colors - of course I had to buy some and I dearly love them. As well as Rosa Gallery (from Ukraine), another great brand I recently discovered :)
This is 100% a labor of love. I really enjoyed the progress pictures you posted on insta and really loved watching the painting process too!
Thank you Kelsey! I kept telling myself that the whole time 🤣
Glad to see you back! :D
Wow! The vibrancy of those paints look beautiful 💜 Also totally loving the critical roll inspired subject! Glad to see you back 😊
How do they compare to the Qor in flow? And I won't lie those blues have me in love. Welcome back!!!
So great to see this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome painting.. I love the ocean blue
The speciality colors are worth the fight in my opinion, but for the standard colors I'll stick to my former favs :) glad it was a helpful review!
@@InLiquidColor That's a good point! :D Thanks! Also: your reviews have always been helpful and taught me a lot. Thank you so much!
I wish these were available in tubes.. but wow are they nice.
I was excited when a patron suggested scraping some out for my main palette, and it was super easy here in my climate!
Yayyyy!!! You’re back!! 💕🥰
Thanks for another great video, very honest and informative!
We love you! Nails looking so purdy!
Love and miss you friend!
Love the fact that you made Mollymauk :)
I absolutely love the effects you got using these paints! I just ordered myself some.
I really enjoyed you handling the RS watercolors. They are very very powerful :)
Welcome back, Denise!
I was so glad to chat with you about them! Thank you Ellen!
@@InLiquidColor It was absolutely my pleasure! I love that you are nuanced in your reviews!
Welcome back!
Wow, it's (he's) so beautiful! 😍
MOLLYMAUK!!!! 💗💜💗💙💚💛
I just got into critical role due to quarantine and I’ve been a fan of yours for a while so 🥰🥰🥰🥰 this makes me so happy
Ginny's Jester is so great! Thank you for all the kind words as always!
I got the introduction set for Christmas last year, it was really nice to have your opinion of them! - the colours are absolutely stunning!
I havent been getting any notifications and am really glad I saw this. Its a bit late but welcome back!
Someone else mentioned that too! I'm not sure what's going on :(
ok so I wasn't blind, aquarius green IS similar to undersea green and I love itttttt. I hope I can find a local seller. I'll probably get the violets too (except dioxazine) and ocean blue (because I really like separating paints).
7:26 that tiger painting is so beautiful 🥰
I just love this painting and this video.
Well dang, I already knew you were a fellow nerd, but you're also a Critter!
Ooooooh pretty. You should do more like these! My delivery came today - bought three pans to test. 😁
Simply amazing!
Aw thank you Barbra! Luckily these paints are super affordable for professional watercolors so I hope you can get some hands on them soon!
I have to pick up that ocean blue!! Looks absolutely gorgeous :)
I am so happy to see you
Amazing Painting!
@@InLiquidColor Thank you. :) This was very helpful.
