Actually, BAND-MAID are a jazz band, with three classically-trained musicians, playing everything from hard rock to pop to jazz. To be quite frank, they are the best live rock band on the planet at this point in time.
Drummer is banigin’ somgood, that in 2016 a guy from the audience asked to meet her after the show. It was Jimmy Paige. Rumor is he knows a thing or two about great drummers. Plus Acane is the happiest drummer EVER
So if my Band Maid history is right, the song ‘Play’ was something made for Miku. She was the lead singer but then found Saiki she stepped back to be a backup singer. Then decided to learn the guitar, so the lead guitarist started teaching her. Play was a song she made just for Miku to get jamming practice. Then Saiki was simply wanting to join in the fun and wrote some lyrics. And now they play it live for fun.
The one and only version of Play that is the very best one. All other versions are the second ones. This is the version that got me hooked for life with Band-Maid❤. MISAs distorted bass intro would cut diamonds into dust.

Brother you just found one of the best bands on the planet. These girls absolutely rip. Band Maid isn't in just one genre, they ARE a genre. They will hit you with rock, punk, pop, hard Rock, metal, speed metal or sludge and sometimes all in one song. Misa, the barefoot assassin on bass is a powerhouse. Kanami, The Riff Goddess writes most of the music and is pretty much a genius. Miku, the little pigeon on rhythm and backing vocals pretty much put the band together. Akane, the Gorilla on drums is about as good as it gets. Jimmy Page of Zeppelin went to one of their shows and said she is a reincarnation of John Bonham, one of the best he had ever seen. Then the marvelous Saiki on lead vocals. Just a kick ass voice. Trust me brother, this is a pigeon hole you want to go down.
Band-Maid are pretty special. They have talent in every corner and they have chemistry which equals mesmerizing performances. It’s not all perfect by any means but at their best they really are probably the best rock band in the world today. “Domination” live should seal the deal for you. Best metal band though? Not band-Maid, possibly Nemophila though… Try “Dissention” or “Oiran” live from Naon Yaon for an introduction. Most fun you can have with metal? Hanabie. Try “We Love Sweets” for a quick gobsmacking.
Band Maid delivers the unexpected. Show me a band that’s angry, with black leather and blood and rage! And I’ll show you a thousand other bands exactly the same. Probably the same font for their band logos, too. The Maids compose hard rock and metal sounds inside of progressive arrangements with pop sensibilities. Because their native language is spoken by less than 2% of the world’s people? They use vocables and simple English lyrics to reach out for fans. They aren’t for everyone, and that’s ok. Some folks just don’t like happiness in their rock and roll 🎸

MISA is the reincarnation of Jaco Pastorius. And, rest easy, the members of Band-Maid are 29-31 years of age.
