I'm a karateka..
I fought in full contact and point system style of karate tournament..
I'm a small 5"2 in height. But I always won against tall opponents..
My specialty in kicks. Roundhouse.
My specialty I punch..
A reverse punch that knocked down once an opponents. During bronze match.. I developed speed and power both hands and kicks..
For ten years of experienced in tournament..I know how to handle tall man compare to same of my height..
muay thai is timing and power, karate is timing and precision
Karate and Muay Thai are both similar enough that both can be effective. It all depends on the user and how he utilises each technique
I beg to differ, I agree they are both effective but as far as them being similar I feel they’re different. Jesse kicks and punches are snappy and quick, and his stance is linear. The thai guys stance is a traditional in the sport of Muay thai, square and the punches and kicks are thrown with full rotation and hip movement to generate optimal power. It may seem similar in hindsight as they’re throwing somewhat similar techniques, but the mechanics and the way the technique is taught is different in both respective styles.
I trained in both for many years. They are very very different in training, style and focus. One is speed, snap and choppy. Muay thai has a lot more flow in training, power and contact sparing which develops different flow completely. They both can be effective given the practitioner but 9/10 karate practitioners will never experience contact in fighting or sparing vs that being the reality of most muay thai fighters.
Almost Japanese fighters training KKshin first and then they training Muay Thai after for fight in KB 2 are useful skills
@@phenom4599really love how you ain't one of those "muay thai will knock karate down in one hit" guys without any explaination
Nah, muay thai is really strong. They focus on strong attaks! On the other hand karate..well just snappy. But the karate dudes allways think they good as thai. They'll never admit it but they'll be destroyed by a muay thai attack.
A sensei of mine said this: it is the one who wields the sword, not the sword itself. Both are effective as long as the user knows what they're doing.
You're right
That's not that acurrate
Seems like Karate likes to keep more distance from the opponent compared to Muay Tai.
I think you have got it spot on there. I've done boxing g sparring and am 4th Dan karate and found I could strike and avoid being hit easily against the boxers for exactly the reason you mentioned.
Yes because muy thai uses a lot of closed ranged elblows and knees whereas karate is traditionally for self defense

striking arts with kicks are not apples and oranges, they are apples and apples.
@dwl3006 yes you are right. They are both the same. It's just so annoying that there are different rules. I wonder why that is?

Muay Thai vs Karate sparring 2???
Jesse has been putting on muscle mass the past couple of years!!!
I'm not messing with either of you.
I think the lovely thing about this is that both styles can be blended into each other seamlessly with tons of practice which enhances the range of effectiveness greatly. Wonderboy talks about this referring to Anderson Silva being a master of this.
Also, Edson Barboza does it very efficiently with Muay Thai and Taekwondo.
Gabriel Varga also has a video about applying karate vs MT techniques
That spinning back kick at the end by the karate guy was flawless 🪙🥇
If it weren't for the belt system, I would probably try karate. Tho I probably wouldn't be good at kicking, only ever done boxing😂
Don't worry about the belts just enjoy the experience
Karate style changed when they had that infamous Showa era match of karate vs Muay Thai and karate borrowed some thing from Muay Thai like that low kick but other than that both style are awesome
I'm seeing in this video that karate is faster and more for long distance, is defensive striking, Muay is a demolition style, slower but harder.
Honestly I wish a school exists where they teach karate in the style of mui Thai. Teach karate like your training someone for a fight in the ring, and it will become as effective or even more
Lots of schools like that, not easy to find. Idk a ton abt karate but i’m pretty sure it’s Kyokushin specifically that is like that
Karate has many styles. Just pick one that is full contact like kyokushin, kudo, zendokai, uechi ryu, goju ryu, shorinji kenpo, etc.
Kyokushin?
I do Jissen karate (full contact karate) and i assure i see more similarities with muay thai than traditional karate. I also practiced traditional karate for 2 years and full contact karate Is way more relatable to thai than karate

I always love seeing those amazing Epic Fights between Thai Boxing vs karate, it's just Crazy all the time, when every time I get to see that fight going in the tournament , I'm about to get pop up some popcorn and soda to Enjoy watching the tournament match to see which Martial arts style of men is going to win, at the end of day I always respect both Fighting styles as a martial artist myself 👍🏾😁🥷🏽🥷🏾🤜🏾🫷🏾🥋⚔️⚔️🏯
Both two are great. Tho my preference is muay thai

Unarmed fighting techniques usually contain the skills of elbow-smash, knee-kick and headbutt in the traditional actual Karate (also called Karatedo, Karate-Do).😄🙏😃
Karate snaps the techniques alot while muai Thai goes through
That lead roundhouse was satisfying af(muay thai)
Spinning heel kick was gorgeous. Guy doing karate moves like electricity
I started training Shotokan karate again after stopping for half my life at 4 kyu. Went all in the first two weeks and ended up with inflammation in the feet and knees. Watching your videos makes me stay motivated. I’m gonna heal and get back to practicing!
Jesse looks kind but dangerous!
watch out😂
Jesse I admire you ❤️ you are being a bridge for karate 🎉 particularly in this transitional era KUDOS
That back kick is sweet
I did both and karate and Muay Tai; the culture is so different. Most karate guys that I trained with had the faster and slicker kicks I ever experienced. The guys that I trained in Muay Tai had big calves but their power was crazy but they didn't have much speed. They both are very effective. So Doing both will help you defeat the person who just train only in that one art. I recommend to do both if you wanna be the best. 💪
Muay Thai has many at the most advanced levels it becomes very lethal, few reach these levels due to the mental profile required.
I think the only thing that hold karate back is the lack of actual sparring; there’s too many karatekas who have been successful in mma to not consider it good but Muay Thai really goes heavy in and developed so many practical techniques because of sparring
For a perfect blend of karate and Muay Thai, check out the fighter Nadaka
Don’t know who the muay thai guy is, but his technique look solid. And Jesse’s techniques look smooth and crisp as always. Cool moves.
Both have their uses and I wanna improve on both skill sets. Great work from both of you
Both are beautiful arts
I round kick thai style but i front kick karate style. The snap front is good to follow up wirh punches too. Great short
Looking forward to your another Thai vlog
AMEN
The feigned kick to the twist & elbow blap, love that. That would end someone’s night if they are attacking you and you are a skilled fighter for sure. I wonder if a total newb could study that and use it. I think about this stuff often
Okay 👍🏾
The eye of the Thaiger...
😂
This sandbag has went through hell. 😂💀
..I love both styles
Both are awesome. Hence why I use both styles.
Both good sports, muay Thai definitely has some powerful low kicks and elbows though
Damn, Jesse is both tall And quick, which means those kicks are loooooooaded. 💥🧨🏃♂️💥
A true warrior's spirit
Thank you Jesse
Jesse training Muay Thai?
Excellent as combining both will give a form of greatness thus allowing the obvious to assess the strengths and weaknesses as with all fighting the point is to forever take advantage of the obvious the sight and the stance adaptation is the key to be ready at all times vision hearing is one to strike from every position to leave nothing to chance and to assume everything in battle and most importantly to not be afraid to die because you're not afraid to live counter Dodge and strike and always be Infinity steps ahead and make the enemy play your game the joys of combat it's good to have these intelligent conversations especially in these times fight on 👊
Both work, both are beautiful
Eye of the Thai Tiger🐅
The difference is in the hooks elbows clinch and close range fighting. And the hard kicks of course no fighting for points
Worst part about muay thai is their defense 😂 it hurts to hit against those knees and elbows 😂
Depends, the one has force while the other tickles
Karate is all about speed and distance management Muay Thai is all about damage seems to be the biggest difference
Some styles of karate hit like a truck. I have a collegue that is 4th dan in goju ryu and his punches feel like stones and his kicks feel an axe hitting you.
@CashewNuts0 Goju Ryu is a close combat style, is similar to Kyokushin but with head punches, throws and joint locks. I have 15 years practicing Okinawan Goju Ryu and also 1 year of Muay Thai, everything that you can learn in Muay Thai is already in Goju Ryu, anyway I love Muay Thai and martial arts in general.
Growing up a lot of people I knew used to talk smack about Karate. Like Mr. Miuagi BS, I've come to learn that it's super deadly and efficient, effective. Machida, Wonderboy, Ieam this is a super short list. But just in this video. I personally love Muay Thai. I trained in Khun Khmer as well but when I watch the kicking strikes in karate I think to myself damn that is super smooth. I won't be getting a black belt any time soon. But I'm definitely going to implore some Karate techniques in my workout. Thanks
First comment 🎉
Yeah. Let's see Jesse spar a Muay Thai competitor. Like Saechai and see that actual differences in sparring techniques and conditioning.
Muay Thai is a lot more aggressive in my opinion and it has boxing in it which is arguably the best striking technique out there.
Me hubiera gustado que fuera más karate estilo kiokushin.
Thank you for doing this video I never compare them before but your kicks are primarily higher. And being higher they make you a little bit less stable. I'm guessing your targeting liver ribs midsection. Where is the Maytag guy is targeting primarily legs.
いつも日本から観ています👍
I like to combine both Muay Thai and Karate togehter
My favorite was the two roundhouse kicks muay tais looks more powerful but the karate one has less telegraph an you can’t tell if it’s a side kick or round house real tricky I jus like karate idk what it is lol
Bro pls try ( muay thai + Capoeira = combos) 😁
Karate is a more defensive style. Muay thai is very agressive. And on top of all this, you are just showing the basic beginner moves/strikes which almost every style or martial arts does anyways.
Melhor o karatê. Mais limpo e fluido. Mas o melhor mesmo é combinar os dois.
Why do they keep doing different moves? They both have all the kicks and knees shown
Cool video.
Thanks!
The best is ninjutsu
Muay Thai 🤝 Karate
Jesse please make video about silat
Gorgeous on both accounts
I mix the two
both are profitable🔧🔥
Sabia fazer tudo isso
Sensei Jesse are u comparing sports karate with muay Thai just do the combate please
Trained in both 😎
I might getting wrong or am i seeing the resemblance of spear and sword, Karate is more in favor to make a distance while also strike sharply, but Muay Thai is more like Sword, once you closing in the gap you do the business, also dont forget the armor, Muay Thai tend to do harshly intense conditioning to make your body is strong enough to take powerful blow 🥶
What gloves are you wearing they look nice
❤
Speed vs strength
Karate and Muay Thai have good counters
Mu Thai kicks with shin bone
Karate kicks with heel
Can You do Kendo vs karate?
Karate: 🤫
Muay Thai: SHH- shh- SHH-
Obviously, Jesse's not hitting it as hard intentionally, but that really does appear to be the difference in which one looks more affective.
Goju looks a bit different.
