I am so glad you guys can enjoy this film for what it is. Bubble gum popcorn movie all through. It's brilliant in its execution of tropes and cliche. I love this movie! Definitely react to Snake Eyes! Another Malkovich role where he actually plays himself is Being John Malkovich also with John Cusack. That movie is so meta and brilliant!
Monica Potter had such a small part in the film but I had a crush on her for years when I was younger. She was crazy popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Sooo, we started watching the AMC+ version of this and, after a while, it became clear something was hinky with some of the editing & language, so we eventually switch to the full-on, R Rated rental. Overall, though, should be the same delightfully unhinged Con Air experience. 😌
Gone In 60 Seconds is what Andrew was quoting from 😉 love my Reject family. Thank you for everything my friends and have a great day guys stay safe and blessed.
I recommend LORD OF WAR, a great Nicholas Cage movie, a movie about a worldwide arms dealer, in the best style of other similar movies like American Made with Tom Cruise and War Dogs.
Lord of War has barely any reactions to it and it's so sad, that movie is unbelievably underrated and is a true story based of either Viktor Bout or Sarkis Soghanalian.
The reason Buscemi’s character sings that song here and then he later sings it in Armageddon is because of the theory he’s the same person. After he escapes here, he changes his identity and he gets a job on the offshore drilling platform. There he gets ultimately blasted into space and goes space crazy. Lol
Since you guys were so impressed with the amount of "hand cuffs" they bring onto the plane, I'll let you know they're not simply handcuffs, but are called "belly chains", at least where I worked in the past. They essentially cuff your hands to your waist to make it even harder to use their hands for nefarious purposes. So also have a chain that goes down to their feet and attaches to leg cuffs to restrict their ability to walk as well.
One of the best over the top in theater popcorn movie experiences I ever had. Just a blast of a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously and is highly entertaining. A stacked cast and Steve Buscemi being just an entertaining serial killer was the cherry on top! John's Nic Cage impersonation is scarily good. As a person born and raised in Alabama there's nothing funnier than Nic's accent. Lol
This movie is an all time classic. The cast is stacked, love that we have Colm Meaney, Buscemi, all of my fave actors from that era. Buscemi in this role is the reason I started watching all the films he's in and why I even started Boardwalk Empire, which is an excellent show to watch if you didn't.
The reason they focused on the other thug taking the knife was because if the knife was present when the cops arrived it would have been self defense (even with his training). Without it they consider it a brawl or regular fist fight and the concept of self defense goes away due to his training.
YES!! LOVE THIS MOVIE!! I watched this on VHS with my parents in December 97 and we loved it very much! It's DIE HARD on a prison Plane. Buckle up for CON AIR!
If you guys want to be mesmerized by the way Malkovich becomes a character do watch Stephen Frears' 1988 magnificent "Dangerous Liasons" with Glenn Close, Michelle Pfeiffer and the impossibly young Keanu Reeves and Uma Thurman.
While it is true that in rare cases you can go to jail for manslaughter even if it’s self defense, this is NOT one of those cases. And ESPECIALLY not for anywhere near as long as he did. And the argument the judge makes that Cameron himself is qualified as a lethal weapon because of his training, and therefore deserved more time, is laughable.
My favorite thing about Malkovich is he was born without hearing and didn't get the corrective surgery for it til years later. What I heard why he can sound funny, but if so, most badass dude on set.
thats crazy, so he basically understood language before he understood an accent for it, most people get it the other way round and cant even really notice their own accent
Malkovich in this movie reminds me of wesley snipes in demolition man. Both actors are playing criminally insane villains and look like they are having a fun time with it
Depending on the State you live in, you can be charged even if you are defending yourself. There have been cases where people have broken into somebody's home with intent to burgle and/or harm, the intruder gets shot and the resident was charged. Kinda like when a shoplifter/robber is assaulted by security guard and charges the store owner for physical harm. Sometimes they even encourage residents to flee from their home instead of defending themselves. It all depends on the State you live in.
I even remember a story of a burglar who fell through a homeowner's skylight, injured himself and ended up suing the homeowner... And won!! The justice system has always been a total joke.
My wife and I went to Vegas and stayed at Treasure Island when they were filming this every night. It was a little jolting in the airplane on the approach to look down and see the tail of a plane jutting out of the Sands. We got to see most of the Cusack and Cage scenes in front of the casino being shot.
This is probably my favorite Nic Cage film. Serious when it needs to be and silly AF when it needs to be. When I think of efficient fun action movies this one always comes to mind.
I remember reading a short court room drama story that starts the same as Con Air. The sepcial forces soldier is found not guilty cos he doesn't know how to 'bar fight', he's trained to take an alive person and make them a dead person in the fastest way possible.
both are laughable since special ops actually don't know how to fight. movies always make special ops experts in martial arts like cameron doing the spin kick in real life not even navy seals(which have the most hand to hand combat training) have any more than 60 hours of hand to hand combat training
Con Air, The Rock & Face/Off...The best Nic Cage adrenaline trilogy & also movies for which I would LOVE to see sequels made. Days of Thunder is 1 of my all-time favorite Tom Cruise movies. LOL, the writers & directors knew exactly what they were doing & how fans would love it having Agent Duncan's car get totally trashed.
For me one of the best action movies ever made. Fun, loud, fast paced, great characters and fantastic one-liners. What i like to call a "proper blockbuster"
That judge is terrible and needs to be removed. Not only was it self defense but he also was protecting his wife who is pregnant. On top of that the judge didn’t lighten his sentence for his service to the country but instead used his service training against him claiming he was a danger to society and gave him an even harsher sentence for it.
I also bet if this judge was presiding over a case where the defendant was a cop he wouldn’t claim he’s held to a higher standard and would probably let him off
Cameron Poe was a victim of a miscarriage of justice, but such things happen in real life in America too. It's not the most unbelievable thing about this film.
I get what Andrew was saying about the guy having a knife at the beginning, but I think one of his friends picked up the knife and ran off before any witnesses got there, so he couldn't prove the guy had a knife. Also, I love Snake Eyes; it was my introduction to Nicolas Cage.
Did no one at the Reel Rejects see that our Andrew had a little something on his cheek there??? Love this movie. It was my introduction to Nic Cage. Glad you two got to experience it, too. Great reaction guys.
Depending on what state you are in you may have a duty to retreat if possible, not doing so could negate the self defense rule. Like I guess he could of tried to get in the car and leave but he kind of decided to stay and fight those guys. Also that bit about military training making him a deadly weapon makes sense, I think a similar rule sometimes applies to boxers for example. In an altercation if one party is highly trained in martial arts the Judge would definitely take that in to consideration.
I saw the 11pm premier of this in the theaters because my brother had a summer job at the movie theater, it was awesome on the big screen - back when Hollywood doubled down on making the soundtrack and special effects sounds way louder than the dialogue😆. My fave Cage movie however is the remake of "The Wickerman" - not the bees!
45:54 No he did not sing that song in Armageddon. He sang Leaving on a Jet Plane by John Denver. ‘Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.’
