Neeskens was my first great football idol. He was a defensive midfielder who looked like an attacker and was an offensive midfielder who looked like a defender. And he was still an opportunistic striker and a great passer. A complete player. I wanted to be him as a boy. I started playing as a right back and switched to CMF to play like him. I can't believe Neeskens is dead. He and Cruyff were my two big loves in the Dutch national team, and they both died young. They are unforgettable. Sabía mucho el chileno, pero acá no se. No tengo dudas de que este era un fenómeno, pero como 8 me parece mejor Xavi (que es más ídolo que Neeskens en Barcelona y en su selección ganó mas). Estaba en defensa y en ataque, tenía asistencias, llegada al gol, no te erraba un pase, un genio del fútbol.

Being always in the shadow of, Johan Cruyff he stepped in the first role in the World Cup, 1978, and carried Holland to another final. Holland nearly won it and would most certainly win it if Cruyff was on the team. Neeskens was the second best - one of the top footballers of all time by any means - skills, technically physically… brilliant player. I was lucky to see him at his best. Muchas veces se menciona como genios a futbolistas que solo atacan y se les considera los mejores de la historia.. Neeskens podría destrozar esa historia, marcando o atacando, verdad que es una injusticia que no se le mencione a la hora de nombrar a los mejores futbolistas?
