While that is true, it's also true that really high tech graphics of your favorite franchises is a really exciting prospect for a lot of people. After seeing Tripolar's horrifically uninspired Mario Minecraft videos, it's good to know that there are still channels that pour so much heart and soul into the content. I'm hoping to join them myself with the videos I'm working on now.

Tripolar is the name of a Minecraft TH-camr who creates the Super Mario Minecraft and the Nintendo Fun House series. There is a tiny bit of improvement in his work over the years, but his old habits are still apparent. He voices all the characters himself (which sounds a lot worse than you'd think), asks users to subscribe at the beginning of his videos, most of his storylines are just fluff, the editing is subpar, and he flows trends and clickbait. Why he almost has 200k subscribers is a mystery.

Well, Bethesda stated that Skyrim is not confirmed for the Switch, but they still are partnering with Nintendo. Fallout 4 maybe?

if i had to guess, since nintendo wont provide any more info on the switch until next year, Bethesda and EA are under an NDA, and thats why its not confirmed. also, Bethesda has Skyrim coming out in a week, and probably doesnt want people to be driven away if they could just wait for it on another console.

If Nintendo can get good third-party support, make sure it's advertised to a proper dempgraphic as its own standalone console, and get enough non-spinoff mainline nintendo titles in there, throwing in a new ip or two, add a proper metroid and mario, baddabing, baddaboom, leagues above the wii u.

And this is purely first party, maybe the Skyrim Remaster will come to the Switch (It comes out next week so it could get optimized for it if they want to), maybe Final Fantasy XV, maybe a new IP from Nintendo? Who knows, but this is looking like a potential launch lineup.

+Hansson I've heard 5 hours but rumors are rumors. They could simply offer a battery pack like they did for the original game boy. For long plane rides or to charge it while traveling. With a battery pack it could go up to 15 hours maybe?

Ugh, I hate when people judge a game based on its graphics. After 16 years, I finally got my dad to play a Pokemon game (that wasn't fucking GO.) it was Platinum. After a month of saying he enjoyed it, yet rarely every playing it, the Sun and Moon demo came out. He played it then ditched Platinum, got Pokemon Y, then told me the reason he liked Y more was because the graphics were better. That hurt my soul.

The only major concern i have regarding the Switch is... Battery Life. Both detachable controllers need their own batteries too. How long will the battery life be? Do we use AA for the detachable ones? Do they get their own charger?
Oh yeah, I didn't think about those needing batteries, but you're totally right! Here's a thought that would be cool even though I'm sure it won't happen: What if those were rechargeable, but could also feed extra power into the unit when attached to prolong the overall battery life?
Well considering the Wii U Pro Controller lasts like 60 hours, I think those Joy-Cons aren't that noticable for the battery life. On the other hand, using them as power banks could be a smart move.
But Nintendo said it's mainly a home console so 3-4 hours are great for its size and power.

The only big issue I think you didn't really consider is battery life--will it really be a great value proposition if the whole tablet gig only gives you 2-3 hours of portability at a time? But everyone else already kind of has that covered, so i get why you didn't talk about it.
Yeah, there are actually quite a few things that could end up tripping up the system. I'm considering making a video talking about all of them. Nintendo's got the idea, but success is going to depend on the execution!

Zapazoid well, that probably because we have no real estimate on how good the switch's battery life is in the first place. I'd like to think it's probably closer to the 3ds as opposed to the wii u, but yeah, portability is this systems most crucial selling point so if the console port itself is the charging station as opposed to plugging it into the wall like the wii u, that might be a bit of a setback and limit some of the systems overall mobility. I'm honestly just hoping the screen has some sort of a portable charging station or charger that connects directly to the screen. but, again, only time will tell
Battery life is definitely something Nintendo should've considered when making the Switch. I'm hoping it'll be aimed towards at least 4 - 7 hours tops, similar with the New 3DS. A 3 hour battery life isn't going to be a good selling point for the system, considering that's the same issue both the 3DS and Wii U Gamepad faced. I really hope that Nintendo makes some improvements with the final retail version compared to the dev kits and teaser trailer.
And then Sony and Microsoft will bring out their next consoles and everyone will say the switch sucks...

I find that more difficult to believe honestly, because Sony and Microsoft are competing in different arenas from Nintendo and even each other. Sony wants Playstation to be your high-spec VR rig and Microsoft wants Xbox to be your PC/entertainment center on your TV. Nintendo is aiming for portable, social, local multiplayer gaming.
Sony had a go at the whole handheld/console concept with the PSP and Vita/PS3 connectivity but it ultimately failed, in my opinion because they failed to recognize what made a portable system good was games made for mobile play, short bursts of gaming, and focused too much on "console quality" games. The Vita/PS3 connection was a step in the right direction, but having to own both systems to achieve it and needing them to be properly synced meant that it was clunky and pretty unrealistic for most gamers on a budget, so the feature was just a plus for the few who could afford it.
Switch, however, bypasses these issues. Nintendo knows the handheld market, and they pride themselves on excellent local-multiplayer party games. When you take a console with the power for full-depth console and local multiplayer games and make it both portable and dockable with a seamless transition, you have something that will be hard to dismiss out of hand.
Now, Nintendo can still mess this up royally if performance or battery life is sub-par, or if the features we had expected it to have turn out to be half-baked. Only time will tell, but I don't think this is a concept that's ever been tackled this way, and I have my doubts Sony or Microsoft will ever have the same grasp on the handheld market without pulling some big strings and taking some big risks.
+The Arrow You are incorrect unless you're talking about the hardcore Sony and Microsoft fans. Both Phil Spencer and the guy from Sony whom i can't remember the name of are both praising Switch and are positive about it. They even seem to look forward to it.

ReachStudioPro I was taking about the hardcore audience who always make fun of Nintendo and are in there own little wars with each other, witch in a way is small but online feels big. Ether way i still think the handheld market crowd is what will really support this system.
I can see Nintendo doing a hardware upgrade in the future like Sony and Microsoft are doing with the Pro and Scorpio. Same hardware and games, but with beefier specs to keep up with the competition.

***** Nintendo confirmed it. Obviously, they'll still have the virtual console and emulation for downloads from previous consoles, but "Backwards Compatibility" means you could take your actual physical discs from Wii U and play them. And there's simply no disc drive.

Graphics this,graphics that. I swear we're no better than the gaming audience of the 90's with theyre Bit Wars. Its the freaks who want PC power coming out of a console who have made the 8th and soon to be 9th generation of consoles unbearable. Seriously,you want awe inspiring graphics,get a PC. You want a legitimate gaming experience,play on a console. Stop trying to combine the two. We all saw what happened with the Xbox One and how it was an abyssmal failure. Consoles need to be specifically for gaming and PC's for your high end graphics. Seriously.

While I totally agree that consoles should focus on the gaming experience over graphics, you have to understand that just a couple generations ago, better graphics also meant new ways to play.
The jump from 2D to 3D graphics opened up a whole new set video game genres that just could not exist in the same way before. Back then, improving the power of consoles meant that developers could do more without worrying about the limitations of the devices they developed for. So, while the benefits of improving graphics has diminished significantly, it's important to remember that, not that long ago, that was the best thing you could do to improve gaming as a whole.
It's only in recent generations (thanks to diminishing returns on graphical improvements) that developers have been struggling to find better ways to improve console gaming, but a lot of people haven't yet realized just how difficult it has become to actually improve graphical fidelity. So, due to the fact that a few generations they would've been (sort of) correct, a ton of people still think that better graphics means better games.
Side note: You make it sound like PC is ONLY for people who want high-end graphics, but it's totally possible to get a PC for about the same price as a console that plays pretty much all the same games. PC's require more know-how to get the best out of them (which is perfectly reasonable if you don't want to invest the time for that), but that doesn't mean that they're just for high-end stuff.

Graphics and kiddiness are the focus of adolescent kids that want to play games that make them feel grown ups.
I was by that alley till my 20's (I'm 32 now). My last Nintendo console was an N64, but with the Cube it was unfortunate that my first and only contact with it was a group of kids playing Mario Party. Also, I got a Ps2 because everybody had one.
We seasoned gamers need to teach younger ones that graphics arent anything. By now I got almost all of the main consoles of each generation and my own kid is growing in a gaming environment so diverse I hope he can grow up free of this kind of bullshit thinking.

My theory:
Two ports on side of switch dock are used for backwards compatibility (wii/wiiu/GCN disc drive and GameCube controller adapter that came with smash4) and pro controller charging

I never had any serious interest in non-nintendo consoles, and Switch is a good example as to why.
My first console was the Sega Saturn, fml.
The scene:
Nintendo announces WiiU failed, and that they'll try something new instead. Sony decides to immediately follow suit, but this time without a mold from Nintendo they can snuggle into.
"What if... Our systems were upgradeable?"
Microsoft chimes in. "You mean like PC's?"
"Yes, actually, those are successful, after all. We'll just have more exclusives, and we can even pull off VR with our current hardware!" Sony explained.
"Well, when you put it like that, it doesn't actually sound so bad... (Though perhaps we'll just start phasing out our consoles, we'll start by removing exclusivity, we didn't do well this generation...) We CAN pull off VR, but we'll need upgrades to do it." Microsoft planned.
"Nintendo, what are YOU planning?" they inquire.
"Project NX." Nintendo announces.
"And that is...?"
"Our new console."
Realizing Nintendo wouldn't spill, the other two set about executing their ideas.
Much later, after both companies had set their plans in stone, Nintendo decides to speak up when the Public becomes worried.
"Announcing... The Switch!"
Both Sony and Microsoft were baffled. They asked Nintendo, "Where are the Upgrades? The VR?"
"The N64DD and Virtual Boy? The DD never saw the light of day, but our 3DS can do what we hoped the VB would, only in color. Even we couldn't pull off expansion packs."
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo looked to the tomb of SEGA. Upon it, The Dreamcast, Saturn,
And a Genesis/Megadrive with a set of CD And 32X Attachments.

Nvidia has made shit before, the name alone means nothing. That said, the fact that they are building a custom tegra is at least slightly comforting.
It's the fact that the new chip is said by NVidia to be made of the same stuff that's in their "top graphics cards" which makes me think Pascal and turns out the new Tegra Parker series contains Pascal! Btw Pascal is the reason that a GTX 1080 can put out just over the same amount of power as a Maxwell architecture Titan X which costs nearly twice the price. So that kind of efficiency is brilliant for a hybrid like the Switch!

I know that this video is seven years old, but I really like this channel and I discovered your channel about a couple of days ago on your vision of the switch 2, which I totally agree with and is probably the most grounded and realistic vision and it’s something that I could see Nintendo doing, hoping your predictions for the next generation of switch is true.
The battery life is the biggest concern right now, I am okay with 3 hours (I really don't play more than 1 and a half hours), as long as the thingy can be charged with a cable (pretty sure it will).
Judging by the size though, I would say it will last around 4 and a half hours instead of just 3, but that's just my estimation though...
Also, pretty sure Nintendo will be selling an expanded battery thing that will make it last for an extra 2 hours
Just get a powerbank if you're outside for longer than 5 hours or something...

I wouldn't be surprised if there were a mobile charging option. If not, someone will make one. I have my own power bank for my mobiles and was able to nab a USB charger from Amazon for my 3DS for a grand total of around $20.
If you look carefully you can see a charger cord in the airport scene in the trailer.
Bam! Usb-c. Not only are you able to use a cable, you can use many phone cables.
The Gamecube screwed up because, it used mini discs, if it used normal DVDs then it would've sold better than PS2.
You do realize there was a model of the GC with DVD compatibility, right? The Panasonic GameCube.

the price is worrying, they should sell it at a loss in my opinion. make the money back with two game sales. they'll be fine.
it's more important this does well than it is for them to squeeze money out of it simply because their reputation and place in the market is on the line.
they can still turn a profit overall even if they sell the hardware at a loss

probably they mean a _cheap_ handheld for the little kid market. I cannot see them completely abandoning that. The Switch seems like a much more serious gaming system.
Well as long as games like Mario & Luigi and Ace Attorney are released for the Switch and not that hypothetical kiddy system I'm fine with that.
DarkK~ they have been talking a lot about unified development. I think anything that will run on any low end handheld they make will also run on the switch. Would be cool if they could even use the same carts so you could just buy the exact same game, but I doubt that.
That's just a downright lie. They're just saying that so they have something to fall back on incase the Switch fails, which hopefully it doesn't.

I just want them to create a PROPER Paper Mario game for once in a blue moon. Reggie keeps talking about how Nintendo cares more about the actual GAMES than the technical hardware specifications of its consoles. Well, if that's true, then prove it by creating the GAMES that the fans actually want to play.

While I think Nintendo is definitely SWITCHing to the Switch on the console front, I'm not 100% sold they're stopping the 3DS as well, which is a shame. Because like you said Arlo I'd love to have a platform where I can play Zelda, Mario Kart, and Pokemon all on one.

James Langston cartridges are an issue to gamers and developers.
1. devs are going to think about spending more money to make games for Nintendo because cartridges have more manufacturing costs.
2. cartridges means no future updates, Unlike the ps4 or xbox one that have discs dump all data into your console the Switch will play games straight from cartridges and that means No future updates if a game has unknown bugs or balanced issues, that's means if a game is released on the Switch and it has issues it will stay broken because of cartridges.
you never saw updates to 3ds games did ya?...that's because you can't update a game that runs straight from a cartridge.
you can update 3ds games though. The patch data isn't actually written on the cartridge though
Personally never owned a nintendo since the NES. So I only ever played Mario. I'd like to play all the Zelda games that have ever come out to the nintendo home consoles and learn some from their game designs. So it would be amazing if there was backward compatibility or ports.

The entire system is ugly as hell... Such big branding on a not so nice looking base... That's the part that doesn't get me excited at all... And then yeah, the ugly pro controller, with asymetrical thumb sticks is a bummer too, the Wii U's Pro controller was heavenly, they should have just added motion controls and let it continue it's life as the Switch pro.

no nope nope. the right stick needs to be below the buttons for it to be comfortable. theres a reason no one uses the wii u pro controller for smash.

What do you guys think about the fact that the Switch reveal was directed entirely at Millennials? I think Nintendo's strategy this time around is to get the attention of everyone who grew up with Nintendo and rekindle the flame. That's a massive market, and a much more dedicated and lasting market in contrast to the Wii. With this demographic in mind, I wonder if they'll release all the games we've wanted on the eShop, as if they've been waiting for the right time to target the audience that wants them.

As an Xbox & Nintendo guy, the Switch has me so excited for the future of Nintendo... I may just Switch them as my MAIN source for gaming, while my Xbox will still be an essential hub for friends and online communities & features. I'm loving this thing.
