Nacho Libre - THIS WAS A TRUE STORY?!

- Nacho Libre is the story of Ignacio- a catholic monk friar who feeds the hungry by day, and moonlights as a flamboyant luchador called Nacho Libre. The film highlights Nacho’s duality between two life paths that he’s equally devoted to and packs in scene-to-scene slapstick comedy, toilet humor, and countless kicks in the ass. I should also mention that it’s loosely based on the true story of a Mexican friar who masqueraded around town as a wrestler to raise money for his church... But I believe there’s more to it than that.
It’s a movie that was co-written and directed by the same indie hero that brought us Napoleon Dynamite and stars Jack Black during the prime of his comedy career. This is a movie that was destined for dollars. But today’s episode is not about how much money the movie raked in, but instead it’s about reading between the lines and looking for the deeper meaning in this otherwise silly and feel-good film. If you’re in the mood to have some laughs and watch a dude on the internet try to assign meaning to the cinematic treasure that is Nacho Libre- then make sure you grab a snack, grab a drink, and Supplex that like button- because today we’re going to figure out once and for all- what's Nacho Libre REALLY about?

You can keep all your comic book hero films, give me NACHO!!!
Random (sad) fact: the guy who played Ramses was an actual Luchador in Mexico. A few years ago, he was in a match and suffered a fatal heart attack. He was supposed to win, but after he fell over dead, the official didn't know what to do and had to have the opponent win. RIP Ramses.
"These are my recreation clothes" 😂😂😂
*Manly Buttclench*
Absolute gem of a film, almost every line is comedy gold and the dorky sincerity is the icing on the cake. Fantastic analysis sir
Glad there are other fans of this movie!
Thanks for this. My wife and I love this movie and still put it on here and there for a fun movie with lots of laughs and a feel good story. I lived in NYC when this movie came out and I can still remember seeing the big promotional posters of nacho all over the place. Love the song about encarnacion, lol
I never thought Fray Tormenta would be the inspiration for such a movie. i love it, and how it recreates rhe Mexico of the 40's and 50's, down to his recreation clothes😂
One of my favorite movies of all time and a major indluence on my work. Great video!!
I didn't appreciate it enough when I fist saw it, but now I love this movie!
"I'm not talking to you, you only believe in science!"
Gentlemen Broncos. Gentlemen Broncos. GENTLEMEN BRONCOS.
I ate some bugs, I ate some grass
I used my hand, to wipe my tears
🎶 "Ramses number 1. He knows the secret of desire!
Ramses number 1. He puts the people all on fire!"
It's not "The Gentleman Bronco"
It's "Gentlemen Broncos."
It's one of my favorite movies. Sam Rockwell kills it.
Nacho Libre and Gentlemen Broncos are 2 of my favorite movies
One of my kids favorite
This and Blues Brothers are the best catholic movies.
Dude, as much as I'm not a fan of visually seeing peeps talk on camera at their desk, your videos are still incredible and some of my favorites when it comes to video essays ❤
Anaconda squeeeeeze
I absolutely love this movie
I want to see the version of Nacho Libre that wasn't passed through the filter of Nickelodeon Movies. I'm not saying it would be super different, but maybe there wouldn't be so many fart sounds and such.
Edit to add I would LOVE a Gentleman Broncos deep dive.
This is my all time favorite Jack Black movie! I watch it every time I come across it. That ending is everything to me!!!
It’s about freedom of nachos, obviously.
Get that corn outta my face!! 😂
It’s about the lords chips
HESS HAS A JOHN LANDIS COSPLAY GOING ON..... 100%
Just found you. Love this and Napolean! Did you do Gentlemen Broncos? Can't find it?
I love this movie, so damn funny
I have this as 1 of the best wrestling films, next to The Wrestler, READY TO RUMBLE and, well. yet to see the iron claw, Fighting with my family was pretty good. so, guess that takes the 4th spot. Even though iron claw has got pretty much the GOLD reception as 1 of the best wrestling films.
For a movie that was made by an American Mormon it really does represent Mexico in an authentic way.
Gentleman Broncos is worth a watch if you’re a fan of Napoleon Dynamite or Nacho Libre. It is a slow burn but has outstanding characters and a great ending. Highlights are the characters played by Jemaine Clement, Sam Rockwell, and (of course) Jennifer Coolidge. Dusty’s albino snake steals scenes, too. 💩 😊
Nachooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Thank You Joblo For This Video
This video need more views

I have had diherrea simce Easters! 😅
I'm watching the MINECRAFT movie just because of Jared Hess
Brilliant analysis!
I've been a Rat user since 1988 and still use them.
This movie must have went right over my head. I'm the guy who likes a lot movies most people hate, and occasionally I have zero interest in ones everyone likes.
I know this story is based off a real priest who used to moonlight as a luchador to take care of the orphans. I wonder what the real guy thinks of this movie
Please do a gentlemen Broncos video
save me a piece of dat 🌽! save me a piece of that 🌽 for later!
Esqueleto pronounced ehs- keh- leh - toh
I don't think he broke his vows and the sister is clearly still a nun.
It’s pronounced ES KEH LEH TOH
JACK BLACK'S HILARIOUSLY UNDERRATED LUCHA LIBRE WRESTLING COMEDY FILM EVER & I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS INSPIRED BY TRUE EVENTS OF A REAL LIFE MEXICAN FRIAR WHO MOONLIGHTS AS A LUCHADOR, LOL! 🤼💪🏟️🎬🎥🎞️🤣
This is like "Night and Day" compared to that garbage called "Napoleon Dynamite". Much better acting and writing.
Almost unsubscribed. Especially after you said “prime of his comedy career”. I thought you knew what you were doing until this
"Ess-kell-eh-toh", not "ess-quell-ee-doh".
Man, your pronunciation makes me sad sometimes..
Good video but pronunciation of some of the names is rough...oof my guy.
ugg, people have cake and eat it all the time... but you know what they cant do, is EAT THE CAKE and HAVE IT TOO.. Because, once its EATEN, you no longer HAVE IT...
Really like Jack black and Napoleon dynamite but this just didn't grip me at all ....I'm a Brit raised on Monty python and absurdist sarcastic comedy but this is one of those films where I can't tell if it's way beneath me or it's going right over my head.
Probably both
Does not compute... This is Jack Black at his Jack-Blackiest!
i cant do jack black. i just cant. hes not sexy, hes not funny, hes not pleasant to look at for 2 hours. nope. i dont get the appeal of this guy.
He's a genuine character and talented performer that puts his heart into his work. He's unabashedly silly and confident, but also both sincere and down to earth. Others - myself included - like people like that and don't judge people's worth by how they look.
