  • Every wonder if the Walmart generic foods are better than the name brands?!? Sure, they save you money, but what about the taste AND what about the ingredients and nutrition. In this video, I'm battling our Walmart Great Value foods with Name Brand Grocery foods to see which one tastes better - and which is the better deal. We'll also look at the nutritional content of each one.
Whether it's Kraft Mac and Cheese, Nutri Grain Bars, or fresh lemonade, we'll see which wins: Walmart Great Value or Name Brand

Exactly. Like comparing apples to oranges. Of course Greek yogurt is going to be creamier.

The reason there’s such a big difference is you used a regular yogurt for great value but Greek yogurt for the name brand.

    • @madi371
      @madi371 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Apocalyps Yea I find that very funny. She knew the great value corn chips weren’t corn flour while the Tostitos were, and she guessed wrong bc the great value one tasted more like corn and had bigger corn pieces!
The Mac and cheese one should’ve been obvious too. Great value had more calories so it should’ve told her that it’d be creamier.
I’m not judging or anything, it’s just funny how people really expect generic to taste bad for some reason.

For example, Velveta Mac and cheese vs Kraft Mac and cheese!
Walmart Mac and cheese vs target Mac and cheese.

The yogurts weren’t the same kind. The Chobani is Greek yogurt and the great value wasn’t. The yoplait brand would be what to compare with the great value. Great value does make a Greek yogurt also that you could compare to the chobani greek yogurt. Some of these were surprising that the Walmart brand tasted so much better! I usually always buy Walmart brand just to save money so nice to know some of these things actually taste better than name brand

Hi Kallie, Thanks for doing the Walmart comparison. You might want to keep coming back to Walmart every couple months and doing a different set of products. (You might also try the health & beauty products. I find those dead on. Those are called Equate.) I've been shopping at Walmart for about 7 years and have found the line of Great Value products just keeps expanding, but in the last 6 months or so the number just seems like they are exploding. I find them generally as good or better than what they are copying, so a lot of times I come out with maybe only one name brand item, or none.
I know you don't shop at Walmart regularly, so here's a tip on the Great Value. They don't just make them like a generic match of the overall product type; they are matching a specif brand. You'll find them right next to that brand on the self, and usually the package will be shaped exactly the same and it will look similar. The colors will be the same although they won't/can't copy the exact pattern and only change the name. That's why when you brought out the yogurt and the package looked so dissimilar to the Chobani, I knew it wasn't going to be a match. My guess is that it was sitting next to another yogurt that was in the same shape package and if you had tested that, you would have said it was a much better match. The Tostadas are brand new. I was excited to find those the other day and agreed with everything you said about them, however, I was reluctant to buy them because the package didn't look at all the same, so I kept thinking they must be trying to match something else in a brown package.
As you found in your price comparison a few weeks ago, you can really save money on the name brands at Walmart vs other stores, and I find the with the Great Values I can save significantly more and not sacrifice taste. Keep up the great videos.

I used to eat quite a few Nutrigrains when they first came out, but over time they slowly changed their recipe. It's not your imagination, the "crust" did get thicker and drier, less fruit filling, among other things. That's when I lost my taste for them, not to mention the hikes in price while also getting progressively smaller.

I found it interesting that both times the Walmart brand was the winner of two things that are apparently staples in her house, as soon as the blindfold came off, she back-peddled a bit to say they were really closer than originally rated - the chips and the mac and cheese. Bottom line - try everything and find what you like. No harm if you only have one box of something you don't care for.

In the yogurt, carrageenan is a natural thickener derived from keep. It's used in a lot of things and isn't a concern. Chobani uses Locust Bean gum for the same purpose. Sodium Citrate and Malic Acid add tartness and flavor. Malic is derived from apples. Both are safe.

You should do a coffee taste test!! Name brand vs generic vs fresh ground maybe. Goes perfect with your channel name lol

I just watched this and this reminded me of something funny. So my friend's dad was very very strict about getting ONLY name brand cereal... Well the wife(mother) bought the same cereal but generic and took the bag out of the generic one and put it in the name brand box. He never knew until my friend made a comment one day :)

I"m sure someone mentioned this and I haven't finished watching the review on the yogurts but one is greek and the other is regular so they are not the same. lol Ok now onto finishing the review as I know most will pick the great value because it's regular yogurt unless you love greek which I do and will always pick it haha.

I have found that the Walmart Great Value food is really pretty good. I buy the orange juice, yogurt, frozen food, milk,... just as good as name brand and you save money

Tostitos were a staple in our home till we discovered the great value corn chips. We liked that they’re re thicker and not as many are broken that way.

I don't eat it anymore, but you have to compare the Creamy Great Value Mac n Cheese. But I've never like the Kraft one anyway, you were right the first time, it tastes fake.
Just an FYI, most of the Great Value products are made by the higher end companies. Especially if you have only one brand choice, they're made by the same company.

Yes! Their creamy mac and cheese is so good. I like to sprinkle some bread crumbs on top and pit in the oven on broil for just a few minutes to make it feel more homemade when I'm on a time crunch.

I think the GV lemonade tasted different because it was 100% juice, where the Simply Lemonade was only 11% juice.

The yogurts are going to taste different because you got different types of yogurt. The Great Value one should have been compared to a Yoplait yogurt or found a Great Value greek yogurt to compare to Chobani. Also I know with the kroger brand of mac n cheese, It doesn't reheat well so keep that in mind if you wanted to reheat the GV one. Besides that great video, I love these kinds of videos. I work for Kroger in Arizona. I know a lot of our products are manufactured by the brand names and then just put in our cheap packaging. I've been told Sara Lee makes our bread.

Do you ever buy things at ocean state job lot? I’d be interested in seeing a quality comparison from there and another store, I feel like our ocean state sells strange brands and stuff tends to break super easily.

Cuz kids and guy's luv mac n cheez, it's like a staple in ur house espec if u got kids. Im a new subscriber enjoyed ur video.
