    I learned to swim when I was 52 years old. It is a challenge lowering the anxiety of being in the water. I'm still not totally comfortable in the water, but I'm getting there.

      That's amazing and inspiring! I'm curious about your swimming journey. How did you start learning to swim at 62? What steps did you take, and what helped you most? Also, what are the four swimming strokes you mentioned? Any tips for an adult learning to swim? Thanks!

    • @perfectyou3473
      @perfectyou3473 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@TBab-dq4dh I live on the Atlantic coast, and started surfing, but I realized I wasn't a good swimmer for strong waves. So I decided to acquire that essential skill and signed up for swimming lessons at our local swimming pool. The other decision fact was my age, swimming being a very low impact sport on your joints. I practiced between each lesson, and 2 years later - I am really enjoying swimming. Four strokes in swimming are breaststroke, freestyle, backstroke and butterfly. My tips for new swimmers of any age: go for it and enjoy! Let me know how you progress if you decide to give it a try.

    Both in our late 50's, my wife and I just love snorkeling but don't actually know how to swim. We never thought that after 8 months of swimming lessons ( which started just last Nov 2022, 2 hrs once weekly), we were very glad that we finally learned to do it. I am comfortable with breast stroke while she seems natural with freestyle in the 25-meter lap pool. Other than our 4x/week gym workout, we plan to make swimming a regular exercise regimen. So, the saying that, "It is difficult to teach old dogs new tricks" is relatively true. The young ones just get to learn swimming real fast. 🙂

It wasn't until more recently when putting my own kids in swim lessons that I realized, OMG I don't really KNOW how to swim!! I'm super inefficient with my kicks and definitely don't do any proper breathing or strokes. Now I want to properly learn and do it for exercise, so thank you for these videos, they're super helpful as I decide whether to invest in lessons for myself.

    I started swimming during the Labor Day weekend. I don't know why I never thought to buy a pair of goggles until I reached the age of 55, but my inner swim fiend was unleashed. I got a Y membership so I could swim in a proper lap pool (and I even started working there last month). My Swim Pro was key to training myself in the early days. I've taken one round of swimming lessons and start another round next month. Until then, I'm watching Whiteboard Wednesday videos to improve my streamline and to start working on my dolphin kicks.

I can't run anymore and I have enough fat on my body I can float every which way without treading and that makes me excited! So I'm signing up for swim classes soon so I can learn the strokes well enough to swim laps for excersise. These videos are helpful!

    Is it possible that a non-swimmer cannot learn to swim naturally for 5 sessions of swimming lessons? I'm a bit slow in learning life skills.. Sadt

    Never had any desire to learn to swim for exercise tho my 7 children were age group swimmers. Had no fear, and could do sidestroke etc. Then 8 years ago had total hip replacement on both sides. No more running. Did rehab in pool and went to water aerobics for 8 years before realizing if I wanted to up my cardio, I needed to learn to swim laps. Asked my oldest daughter who came to visit and was a certified swim instructor if she would teach . Role reversal and lots of laughter but after 3 lessons I was able to do a credible 25 yd lap of freestyle, at 85. Have always had linebacker shoulders which is good as I have little leg power. My biggest issue is breath control as I have chronic asthma. This is the main reason I was reluctant to try swimming, as it is harder for an asthmatic person than running. However, it really is both fun and a challenge so don’t be afraid to try it no matter what your age.

    I wish I could swim but everytime water goes over my head even in a shower it takes my breath away 😩 so then I panic and I feel like I can't breath this really scares me so it just puts me off learning how to swim my dad made me scared of water from a young age he would tip freezing cold water over my head 🙃 which would make me lose my breath I can't even do waterside because of when the cold water splashes in my face this takes my breath away only thing about me being so scared of water is from a young age I always took my boys to a waterpark abroad so they would learn and not be scared of water even thou I would sit on the edge scared shitless that I wouldn't be able to help them if they got into trouble but now they are older they can swim not scared of water 😊

    I was shoved into the pool at Disney land when I was 9 and almost drowned. I get in the pool for water aerobics etc. But when I hear that water sound while trying to swim I freak out. I really want to swim and get this behind me I'm 52 now 😂😂😂

      I’m not saying that autism prevents people from learning how to swim, I’m just saying that was one of my personal struggles growing up as someone with autism.
