      man they did a really shitty job at hiding that ambient light sensor
      i am not even a fan of adaptive brightness either , the google home 7" smart display
      has a less noticeable sensor
      the least they could have done is make the light sensors and the motion sensors not at all visible for that kind of money it should look like a real framed photo with a nice matte not like a cheap Chinese tablet
      still waiting on Google to release photos app for android TV
      for the money this thing costs i would just put it toward a Samsung frame TV instead
      but what i would really like to see is an electronic ink frame of this size ,there have been amazing breakthroughs in color e ink displays as of late ,better to wait for something like that instead , also low power consumption of e ink displays means you could have it run on a battery and have it last for years between charges so you could hang it wherever you want and have to worry about being near a plug

    Great review as usual Brett! Looks like a quality piece of tech but $300 seems a little steep given it's limited functionality at the time of making this. If they make some more useful channels and make this like quick smart home view and security cameras that would be awesome! On another note my Lenovo smart display got a new update a few weeks back the UI was totally overhauled and it is AMAZING! You should do a software review on that update!

  • @BayMcGhee
    @BayMcGhee 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I love looking at your videos man. I appreciate you going over the tech that I actually have and like as well (Google)
    You did make one comment about electrical wires in the wall and you are correct. The only thing is that the electrical that cannot go behind the wall is line voltage (120v) in a plug style. What you have is low voltage, that is okay to go into a wall. I work as an electrician, so that is the only reason I am bringing this up.
    Otherwise, this makes me want to strongly consider getting this frame, because we have so many digital pics that I would prefer to show other than just static ones.. Thanks again.

    • @TechWithBrett
      @TechWithBrett  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am very impressed with the screen quality. It does have a matte finish. I would say it does look better than just a TV but not quite as good as the Nest Hubs ability to adapt the picture to the rooms environment.

  • @exfolios
    @exfolios 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Now if it can just have a motor to automatically swivel depending on whether it is landscape or portrait. Or, or, wait a minute, how about a big square frame to accommodate both landscape and portrait or any format even - panoramic, round, videos, etc. And that white mat would also be digital so it automatically changes shape depending on the format. And when the doorbell rings, you can see who it is. I know, asking too much, but, get the idea?

    • @cameranmanner4701
      @cameranmanner4701 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      that sounds insanely complicate. I would just buy 2 frames. portrait and landscape. Then have photos upload to which orientation suits best. The other option is to have a zoom fill feature so there are no black bars visible when picture is displayed.

      There is sort of a way to have it do this from the Lenovo Frame app.

      There is now an option where you can upload video files from the app and it can play them, it also has a small speaker as well.

      It is on Amazon for $399. Supply chain pricing. Home Depot also has it. There is a link in the description below his TH-cam video.

    The fact that you can't just "Hey Google, show me Christmas photos from last year." is a huge bummer.

    • @TechWithBrett
      @TechWithBrett  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it is. It has mics built in and has the potential to do this one day but a Nest Hub will be best for that for now.

      @@TechWithBrett I was completely expecting it to run through a google hub/home. It is an early stage of development product I guess, but great to see it at least has Google Photos to start. I missed the 50% off sale in June, now the recent $100 off. I will still bite the bullet and get one. Love that wall mount.

      It has microphones built in so this is something they could add in the future, but no word if they will yet.

    i think id rather buy a 32inch tv put it on the wall and just use a firestick way cheaper

    The power brick design to prevent from using an embedded wall plug is a huge miss as the cord just ruins the whole product as a picture frame on the wall. Also, only HD and not UHD is a miss at $399.00. My money goes to the company who makes a smart UHD OLED with proper power cable photo frame.

    This product might have been good if it supported other things other than Google photos like Plex Nas but since Google photos now is charging a premium for high quality photos it's a no go for me I'd rather go with a 14-in star something that does Nas and several other Cloud storages it is a shame I like Lenovo products I have their alarm clock

      or a standard sd card to do a wireless photo backup from phone or camera. Cloud base pictures are great if you have internet or a cloud account to hold on your photos. BUT you need to trust the owner of the cloud not to access your photos for their purpose and if the site is hacked, shut down. Your service provider is down and your wifi connection fails. Really with all these negatives not sure why cloud base storage is a good idea.
