Went to both AG and Church of God and loved both places but what is wrong with the second works? If I understand it correctly it's having a transformation by experiencing God. I see no probably with that but the AG doesn't believe this is possible or am I misunderstanding second works?

Proverbs 9 : 13 - 18 “The woman Folly is loud ; she is UNDISCIPLINED and without knowledge. She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, calling out to those who pass by, who go straight on their way. “Let all who are simple come in here!” she says to those who lack judgment. Stolen water is sweet ; food eaten in secret is delicious!” But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave.” Theses verses are a apable like all the Bible they refer to the " church" = the woman, undisciplined refers to the hundreds of preposterous denominations,

I grew up COGIC & understood that the 7 yrs after COGIC's incorporperation as a legitimize Christan denomination/organization the founding leadership of AG (white ministers) were racially targeted by their peers for being a part of an organization that was lead by blacks; primarily the COGIC Founder, Bishop C.H. Mason. The irony behind this & part that the founding AG ministers could not run away from was the fact that the first AG ministers we licensed and ordained by Bishop Mason...

Great video! In practice, there are a large growing number of AG churches that believe baptism of the Holy Spirit is not always accompanied by speaking in tongues but more in the "sometimes" category. So on paper, it is "required". But in practice, with a large number of individual churches, speaking in tongues is "sometimes" present. More of a shift in the past 10 years.

I'm part of an AG church, however the confirmation by tongues (although possible) is not taught as we do not see that in scripture (to my knowledge). Also, the strictness on alcohol in my experience is aimed at ministers / pastors as response to the importance of those roles; not a mark or need of salvation.

When I came to the Lord I started going to an AOG church and over the years have been going off and on, with other churches being visited in between. Years ago the AOG taught about repentance, closeness with the Lord etc. These days, very little is taught about repentance or holiness. Also the AOG had an air of superiority, i.e. was better than other churches, which upset me no end. I have been to a number of "traditional" churches in between which I found more "humble" than the AOG. However the AOG beliefs, i.e. sanctity of marriage, anti-abortion etc I strongly agree to whereas the traditional churches seem to have lost their moral compass and too many compromises with the world are occurring.

    • @ReinSouls
      @ReinSouls 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

You'll find the superiority complex in any denomination. I attended an AOG church for 16 years. And everyone tried to make new people feel welcomed to the congregation and to the church. Meanwhile, for a time in 2012 I attended a Methodist church that my cousin is the pastor of. I attended because my grandmother was dying, and that was the church she attended. So to maximize time with her, we went to her church. And every service we could feel the judgement of others. And we weren't the only ones to pick up on it. The first service following my grandmothers death; my cousin made a statement to his congregation about how even he felt that we were being judged for not being Methodists.
In 2014 I moved states, and there is only one AOG church in the area. I attended a few sermons. But they never really put the effort out to make us feel welcomed. It was like a "hi welcome" and then never acknowledge the existence of again. So I stopped going. After that, I went to "the church" in the area that basically everyone who's name is known around here goes to. It's a Baptist church, and didn't have really any problems with it. The people were warmer than the local AOG church. Actually, one of the first things anyone there said to me was an invitation to their Bible Study. I went for a couple of months. But something kept saying to me in the back of my head "This isn't where you're supposed to be." So again, I went "church shopping." Have attended about half the churches in my area regardless of denomination over the course of about 5 years. Then I went to one. And the first sermon I attended that voice that kept going "This isn't where you're supposed to be" said "This is where you're supposed to be." Have been there since. And I can tell you, over that 5 year search, about 1/4 of the churches I attended had that same superiority complex. Some I only attended one sermon because I could see everyone looking at me and feeling the overbearing amount of silent judgement. And it was more or less evenly split between "traditional" and "modern" churches where I felt that. It also didn't matter the denomination. The church I now attend is officially "nondenominational." But if you walked in not knowing that you'd claim they were a Baptist church (which they basically are). And, even though that's the church I now attend. I still identify as a Pentecostal. And still attend the AOG church I attended for so long when I go visit family there.

@WarmPotato It depends on which ones. There are very devout and Cod fearing Catholics and very secular ones. I am not Catholic but I have met deeply committed Catholics who love God and Catholics in name only who just go to church to perform a cultural ritual.
To their credit there are no Catholic churches marrying gay couples and none which accept abortion as a woman's right. Liberal Protestant denominations have caved to these matters, but the Catholic church has not.

Not many differences other than leadership. AJ Tomlinson was horrible with money and used his own bank account for church funds. The church of God decided to end this, impeach him and go with a term limits. Certain churches believed in a “supreme leader” and chose to stay with AJ and later his son until his death in 1990 which led to another split, Church of God(Charleston, TN). Another one of his sons started the Church of God(Huntsville, Al) and appointed himself King of Men. Beliefs are pretty much identical and there has been talk of rejoining the COG for several years.

I'm a minister in the Church of God. I have passed my test to become an Ordained Bishop and will be recognized next month and it will become official. The Church of God does and at the same time does not allow the ordination of women. Many chaplain programs require someone to be "Ordained" in order to be a chaplain. In light of this, a few years ago, the ministerial ranks where changed to exhorter, Ordained ministers, and then Ordained Bishop. Women can be Ordained ministers, however cannot be Ordained Bishops. This has been a topic of debate for years however, and a topic of discussion for this year's general assembly will one again be women in ministry and their role therein.

I am a member of a Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee) and am formerly a member of another congregation of the same denomination. Lately, I have not heard entire sanctification taught in either of those two congregations. My current home church has not had a foot washing since I started going there in 2020. Under our current pastor, I've not heard speaking in tongues in the worship service. I do believe in process sanctification. Same sex foot washing does teach humility, but it is not necessary that my local church have that. Sometimes, tongues can be faked and many don't like fake tongues.

One would think that it would be common sense to be united. But sometimes stubborn belief in even one difference can outweigh common sense. It is sadly the state of sinful nature to hold nonessential belief as though they were essential for the faith and become the obstacle from achieving unity. But at least these denoms are united through other means and organizations without feeling as though their belief system is being changed or diluted from even the most minor differences.

Second grace means baptism with the holy spirit that happens in an instant, rather than the process of sanctification that leads to christian perfection. Christ died for our sins, admitting your a sinner and in need of a savior would be a first step. Accepting Christ as that savior and believing in Him as the Son of God, dying on a cross for your sin would be the second, and believing He rose again and now sits at the right hand of the Father would be third. Now we go turn from that Sin and we are a new creation/born again in spirit/heirs with Christ. Then last he said Go and make disciples and always be ready for my return. I think that covers it….

95% correct but I imagine the things I see as wrong in the A/G are because they can withdraw and the congregation owns the property. I think for this reason each church has a little bit more freedom on beliefs as long as they are not too out of scope. In the 70's the A/G owned the property but that has changed since then. The A/G is moving more to a sanctification is a process that comes through a relationship with Christ whereas the old saying is Saved, Sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost. My personal belief is James 4:8-10 "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double-minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up." All of the sanctification in this scripture comes after he says Draw near to God, AND HE WILL DRAW NEAR TO YOU. It is with Christ's help we obtain sanctification. This is an absolutely phenomenal presentation that taught me a lot.

I finished this video. And I'm like Arminian and believe people can fail salvation from this scripture I found Galatians 5:19-21 that when sinning that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians was Paul's teachings, proves it can fail eternal salvation. Grandpa believed he couldn't go to Hell, and Arminians believe he could.
I'm against suicide. I was depressed also to suicidal. I almost did suicide as a 5-Point Calvinist. And these scriptures got me more hope.
I became more Arminian now from these scriptures I posted on here. I believe people can fail salvation.
Loving God is wanting to be useful for him much. What if a person could do that much of his time? And I enjoy working from this. People who enjoy working. When it's more likely to be boring to non-Christians.
    New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Mark 9:33 (V)They came to Capernaum; and when He was in (W)the house, He began to question them, "What were you discussing on the way?"
    .
Mark 9:34 But they kept silent, for on the way (X)they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest.
    .
Mark 9:35 Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, "(Y)If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all."
    .
This is for Christian world domination. Why to raise kids Christians. God Son Jesus said similarly to whoever is useful the most is the best merited of the apostles. Useful merit for eternal rewards and competition with other Christians. With God Son Lord Jesus Christ faith teaching, people will want to be useful for the kingdom of Heaven, which usefulness happens on Earth and if any other place. We need to help this world as much as we can!
This text could motivate, supposed to be Christian people, to do all types of usefulness. Chores, volunteering, grade school, high school, college, and work. Good people, this world needs them.

God is ONE God, in THREE distinct persons. It is difficult for the human brain to comprehend, but that is what the New Testament clearly teaches. Even in the Old Testament, there are clues to the Trinity of God. In Genesis, for example, God says..."Let US make Man in OUR image". That "Us", of course, refers to the three different persons...Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus, in His long discourse with His Apostles in the Gospel of John, on the night before He died, goes into His relationship with the Father in great spirituality.
