    the "jackson galaxy method"? I've been following it and it involved feeding times and closed doors and meeting face to face much later...

    • @philipdouglas5911
      @philipdouglas5911 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      And it just puts off the inevitable. Hissing, swearing and swiping at each other is part of cat introductions. They have to sort things out for themselves during a face to face encounter. The Jackson method only delays this. Cats are not lovey dovey animals and are highly territorial which means that there is not going to be any love between them whether they are introduced face to face on day 1 or on day 20. Eventually they may learn to tolerate each other and may become friends but some hate each other for life. What is on the video is inevitable but the new cat should have been given a place of safety to retreat to first.

      @@philipdouglas5911 lmao, your comment is ignorant. You don't want to give them the best possible chance of being friends by slow intros? Ok, I'm going to assume you're kind of a trash cat parent. What's your suggestion? Let them get extremely stressed, duke it out, and potentially ruin their relationship forever? Boy you're real educated on cats, huh

    Not in my household, it's been 25 days (and counting). We have made progress, but slowly. Today, both cats can look at each other through a screened opening. However, there are still signs of aggression by the resident (and older) cat. Being in the same room (non-controlled access) is still out of the question. No disrespect to the posting, but I'll stick with other proven methods. When both cats cease to show aggression/fear towards each other.., then I'll know the introduction process has been successfully completed. However, to this poster's credit, I like the cat home design...., plenty of climbing/escape areas for both cats. Three words sum up my process - "take your time". Both cat will let you know when "they" are ready to live together. In the long run, your children will appreciate your careful planning.

      Eh... the steps were right, it just probably should've been done over the course of more than three days. But all cats are different, maybe they handling it better.
      When I brought my cat home, I had everything set up so she'd have a "safe" area to gradually come out of as she felt comfortable, with the full expectation that it might take her a few days to get used to me and a new house. I opened the cat carrier, she bolted out, explored every inch of the place, and was nuzzling me for attention in half an hour. ^_^

      All cats want to be "THE ONLY CAT" in household unless brough and grew up as kittens!They never get along if introduced as adults!At first..but if patient with their introduction,sometimes very patient they can become or best friends or tolerate each other with small little fights sometimes.I spent once year introducing my new cat Charlie(street stray) into my multi cat house.My blind huge cat Sparty was the hardest obstacle as he simply treayed Charly as death threat and keep following him and attacking so Charlie was as huge himself defending than also very agresivelu!That would put in "fight mode" my other 2 males(even all neutered) -so safe separate room was a year and every days "visits" under our strict supervision etc..

    This introduction seems a little rushed, but thankfully with their personalities it worked out
    I love how desperate Jack is to play! Even though Gerrit is still nervous and insecure, Jack is trying his best to come off as umthreatening as possible
    The first meeting with Gerrit in the crate was likely stressful for him as he would've felt trapped, hence all the hissing
    It went far more smoothly with the roles reversed and Ger being able to approach jack on his own terms, rather than being backed into an inescapable corner by a cat sticking his paws through the bars

I think these two will do just fine, Ive owned multiple cats all my life and Ive seen much much worse when it comes to two cats being introduced. Youre a good person and u did the right thing. Screw all these negative ppl (who probably dont own ANY pets let alone a cat) that love to sit there and judge you. I think a lot of people get to panicked when Cats hiss and bat paws at each other. Unless fur flies or blood is drawn, that’s just how cats interact. A successful cat house share is them tolerating each other. If they get to cuddling and hanging out, that’s just bonus. People want their animals to socialize like people and cats aren’t humans, they are felines. Prone to a lot of the same dominance behaviors as their jungle cat pals. I am introducing two in a studio. Gave the new kitten a den, but there is no locked off second room.

We didn’t kept them in separate rooms. The 1st cat accepted the 2nd cat inside the home. The 2nd cat was more than my cat but, he did spread the love to other members of the family. Both cats were very sweet and friendly in their own different way.

    Very nice! Happy to see your success. Thank you for sharing! I just went through this process. We adopted a shelter cat in November, 2022 and he seemed to need a friend so we adopted another shelter cat just last month (April 2023). They are both about 1 - 1-1/2 years old. We used the baby gate process; it took just over 2 weeks which included some supervised, short meetings in the same room. I think the time span is different for everyone. My existing cat was fairly nice, only hissing a little, but every time we let them spend a little time together, he got aggressive so we would end the session and just kept trying until he seemed more curious and willing to spend time together. I highly recommend the baby gates. I borrowed my sister's gate, but obviously cats can jump over that so I ordered a 40" gate from Amazon and we stacked them and tacked a small towel at the top opening at the door. After they had a few sessions together, we kept the door open when we were home. That helped the new one not feel so isolated and the existing cat would spend time looking into the room to see the intruder. The newest cat is the youngest, he came from a sanctuary where the cats roamed around together; he was very used to being with other cats. He works so hard (with respect) to win over our existing cat. They now both have the run of the house (condo). They play and clean each other on occasion. They are not friends yet, but at least we made it to the tolerant stage. Now my existing cat seems depressed so I'm trying to learn how to overcome this hurdle. I worked so hard to keep reinforcing love to my existing cat. Jackson says two are better than one; I am looking forward to the day I can say that.

    my two cats fought the first meeting id had gotten a new cat and had them seperated for a few days but that wasnt enough so ive switched the on n off one goes in a room the other roams vice versa . i did this for a week , then i build a barrier out of wood and chicken wire that splits the house into 2, it allows visual and litmited physical contact but it also allows one to roam away if wanted to, theyve had it up for a little over a week, and just now are they starting to show less aggression and more play actions

Im guessing he thought she was a male. Im not sure but I know he didn't like other male cats later that night they were cuddled on my bed sleep together. And must of had a good bond cause Midnight got out on the roof and we thought he ran away Olive was meowing all the time and leading me to the window I didn't understand what she was trying to show me but I went out in the back yard and theres Midnight on the roof. Individually they are find with the household humans, but any outsiders, human, feline or other species are ENEMIES! I have tried every food, aromatic herb, pheromones, spray, etc. I’ve been using the Jackson Galaxy method of introduction. After a lifetime of many many cats, I am feeling quite insufficient for this process, but I will keep trying. Rescued a cat at 3 weeks old I believe and I’m trying to get my moms cat use to this one. Not sure what to do. My moms cat is acting jealous. Went to pick her up and she hissed at me ☹️ Then started to make a noise I never heard. Like crying and I could tell Rosy felt heartbreaking, but I am trying. Could not leave that poor cat to die on the road where I found it. 😭 Any tips please reply

    I'm having a heck of a time introducing a 5 month old rescue kitten to my 12 yr old cat. I've tried every step and even after two weeks, my older cat is hissing like crazy at it. I still have the safe room for the kitten, and have only been able to progress to a child gate (two stacked) between them. I'm worried my older cat won't accept her...

      @kewpified 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We got a kitten for our rescue kitten and they've already bonded. (right decision) but...my senior cat still has not accepted either. The youngest kitten, they can be in the same room but she will hiss at and sometimes paw at her (no claws though). Now with the rescued kitten.... For some reason, my senior cat has fear aggression towards her and they must remain separated still. We use our bedroom or a cat cage and are still working on it. This will not be a quick fix but we will keep working at it patiently. @@SaartjeandRufus

    With my family we had 2 red tabby cats that were adopted a little bit over 2 years from each other. Our first cat was so laid back and even easygoing. That cat got along with our 2nd cat that they became best friends with each other really quickly. Now that my sister has 2 cats that they became buddies less than a week.

    My cats were introduced to quickly without a real safe room for my elder cat...they've been living together for 6 months and the elder still hates the little. He growls, hisses, and paws with claws :/ the little doesn't get it and continues to play with elder...I'm trying separate rooms, dishes and boxes niw. I just cant take it. Growling all the time and hissing even at me and elder was never like that with me...

    I have two cats, brother and sister litter mates. They did not always get along if the female wanted her space she would hiss at her brother. Both were fixed so we just needed enough room for her to have some privacy.
    She got out and away six months ago and her brother stayed. If I get her back I might have to reintroduce them the Jackson way considering the time apart, but it might only take a day or two or it could be a month, I have no clue...first things first is finding her before attempting to find another playmate for him. I just wish people believed that not everybody uses lost cat as a way to deceive, I really do miss my kitty. Road trips just are not the same without my kittle dashboard diva, come home darling, door is open.💖😇🐈🐈

      Nejla Penny Please don't do it exactly like it was on this video. Those cats aren't happy and that's easy to see considering that never in this video new cat walks with tail high up, in the chasing scene it was a fight over domination. The method in this video is an incorrect interpretation of tips from video made by famous cat behaviourist Jackson Galaxy. Check out his video about cats introductions.

    I think it was awesome. I think it would be extremely RARE to have both cats lay over and play on their first face to face. Your resident cat has a lovely "curious" friendliness to him. Accepting more so than most cats. The new cat was more aloof but that doesnt have anything to do with it being rushed - his nature was more cautious. All cats are unique. They were already friends even the first actual meet F2F out of the box - similar to humans being nice but somewhat "reserved" their first few meets..so was the new cat. Retreated a little and somewhat "energetic" ...but all in all buds.

    • @SerafinaS8
      @SerafinaS8 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Karen Luce Reserved? They are warry of one another. They barely tolerate was other, if you can say that about all the fighting which had place here, because they don't have any other choice. Also I haven't seen any playing on this video aside from the clip with feathered toy. Everything else was fighting. Also because of all the bullying, the resident cat just lost his all friendliness along with feeling of safety in his own house. It could have gone so well with such friendly cat. Now however I doubt the person who made this video and did the introduction in the way Jackson Galaxy disapproved is going to notice how insecure both cats are. They aren't going to fix it and cats can't either.

    As a cat whisper for some 20 years all I can say is that this is not the way to introduce cats . Please refer to Jackson Galaxy videos on TY as he is the most knowledgeable cat whisperer on the net.
    This method shown here is not to be followed if you want your cats to have a friendship that is long-term and minimal stress.

    Please i have a problem can anyone help me. I have five cats, last one i brought he didnt like one of the old cats at all he started attacking her until he gets to the point that he was able to kill her and when i tired to hold him back he attacked me so bad, they have been separated since that time each one in different room, he is still always trying to enter her room and he wants to attack her whenever he smells her.
    She is weak and so scared of him and she pees each time she sees him. And he is ok with the other cats
    Please how can i fix this, it has really become unacceptable, they cant live this way

They have since day 3 some together time while I'm watching and sometimes interrupt them with treats and play. It's nice to see some real videos like yours to kinda have a feeling whats normal behavior and what not. I'm always a bit scared of the hissing and little punches from my big cat (black RussianBlue mix), also my new cat is so tiny (full RB). Thanks alot.
