Best video i have watched on this subject. I am getting a new Kitten for my 8 month old kitten and i shall be taking this advice.

Good video. I would add one step: Early on, after letting the newcomer explore a room remove the newcomer and let the older cat go into the same room to get used to the newcomers smell.

We brought the kitten a week ago, he’s totally fine. Feeding both from the two sides of the door, started to work well. Yesterday day8 we put the old cat to the kitten’s base camp to smell him, she couldnt stand the smell, seems like being frightend or just simply afraid of the kitten’s territory.
What the hell can we do? She’s so stressed out :( This is not just simply hissing , but it seems the older cat she’s kinda terrified to aknowledge that she’s not alone

@@zsauffi She probably just needs more time. I would get some pheremones to help ease her stress and try using items to get used to scents first. Particularly if you have one cat play with a toy for a day or two let the other play withthat toy. You can also try petting your older cat after petting the kitten around their face scent glands to get used to the scent and associate it with pets and such. Try to get them to smell like each other over time so it's less of a shock. Would love to know if the situation got better for you.

We’ve been doing exactly the same things for 2,5 weeks, and now in the third week they already started playing together :) it took a while, our older cat wasnt used to other cats. The miricle is working 2 days ago :D I’m so happy, it’s a pity that I cannot post pics here at comment section.

I using ur step and yeah it works 100%,on 1st day my old cat hissing and the other is puffing then i separated them for a days but they did a contact beetwen the door and after 3 days i try to face to face them and yeah they r sniffing each other and my old cat always follow him as she really excited about the new cat.let them roam free and finally on day 12 they r playing chasing and.. best budd :)

Tbh your most likely preparing them to get along with or without your presence and when your not around they probably most likely mate together possibly on your bed when your not home

Can confirm it works. Our old cat is real aggressive towards other cats but we wanted another one so we tried. And after keeping the kitten in our bedroom for 10 days they now play together.
I think the most important thing for our old cat was to be able to eat soft food right beside him. After that she was kinda fine with him. Just follow the steps and don't rush it. :)

Great video!!! I have a cat about 5 yrs old & there is a homeless feral kitten that lives under a shed across the street from my apartment. She/he has warmed up to me by feeding & im gonna bring this kittie in! It brakes my heart that she/he is alone & cold at night so I MUST DO SOMETHING!

i have 2 abyssinian cats both male 4 years old. Outside of my restaurant there was a little white kitten roamning around i started feeding it scraps and suddently it would wait for me at night, i brought her home and i have her sleeping in the bathroom at my home seperated from my two older cats, her first night with fresh food and water litter box a fresh clean blanket and heater to keep her warm, im not sure how my older two cats will take her in but im praying all goes well,... any advice..?
@@tblefortwo hey , I'm trying to get a little cat too , it was born in the street and I was there i saw him coming to life , but my current cat is kind of aggressive , and it's 6 months old , I think I'll get him home anyway and try to take care , and for your cats i think you should try to introduce them to the little one , be brave you're doing good :D I'll pray for you
When you watch this straight after you've already introduced your kitten to a cat- The kitten was super brave honestly, and we moved them apart if the elder one showed signs of having enough. They can sleep and clean next to eachother fine now and they have no problem sharing toys, we only have to pull them apart sometimes when they play because the elder cat is fat and squishes the kitten-

I just rescued a kitten for my 7 yr old how lost his brother and best friend 5 months ago. He (older) has become listless and needy. I'm hoping I made the right decision. So far they are afraid of each other and not to keen on me! Kitten is in my master bath for now. All of his needs met. Giving him a few hours to rest from a busy day at the shelter, a drive, yesterday's neutering and now a new home with a big fuzz ball who's showing DOMINATION...well, he was needy when I left to pick up kitten ! LOL!

However....for better or worse, I took a slightly different approach when my Maine Coon kitten first came into the house. We had a 17lb bruiser of a Tux-cat, big and burly, and the kitten could have bedded down comfortably in a child's cereal bowl with room to spare. So after a spell in solitary (the downstairs bathroom) to get acclimated, I brought her upstairs and released her into gen-pop. I watched as she entered the dining room from the kitchen, and Sox-the-Tux entered from the living room. They spied one another and froze. The kitten puffed up all her fur, got up on her pads, danced over until she was nose-to-nose with him, and hissed in his face. I expected him to bat her out of the park like vintage Hank Aaron....but he just looked at her, kinda nonplussed, and appeared for all the world like he was saying to himself: "Hmm....well, I guess you could call that a cat....technically speaking..." I'd SWEAR he was laughing....
They staked out territories at first, and spat at one another occasionally, but it wasn't long before I'd find them together, batting a ball around, or curled up together on his favorite chair for a nap. Never had any bloodshed or fur bits flying,....he quickly grew to treat her like an indulgent uncle with a beloved but rebellious niece.
Like so much else in life, these things have a way of working themselves out.

@@charlielockettfilms about 2 months ago I watched a 'suggested' video of a baby monkey eating new foods. It was so adorable that I began looking specifically for them. From there I was reminded of my pet bunny that I had about 34 years ago and I guess I just began watching them because they made me smile.
Umm I actually didn't do any of these steps and was able to introduce my 1 month old kitten to my 4 month old kitten, they fought alot, hissed alot but after giving them lunches at same time, keeping their cages facing towards each other when they are sleeping actually somehow got them closer. It only took 3 days and today I found both of them snuggled together under my bed.

As a blind person who owns a cat, and who listened to this video for much-sought-after advice on cat/kitten introductions, I can only glean that I should introduce my felines by way of repeating piano music with no helpful or explanatory dialog to make the process accessible to those without sight. Glad it was useful for sighted pet owners, at least...

We introduced our two boys like this..
I brought a small one and put it next to older one... Older one didnt give a sh*t, Smaller one was so scared.
Two days later, small one got closer to older.. Older one didnt give a sh*t.
A week later a small one is running around trying to play with older one... Older one still doesnt give a sh*t 😂 he just realizes there is one very hyperactive kid in his house.
After thirty-plus years of cat ownership with as many as four at the same time, we've never had much trouble introducing cats to one another. Within a day or two they're acquainted and playing together. Maybe we've been lucky. We've usually had male cats which seem more docile. We've only had one female cat, for about 13 years now. Fortunately, we've had no problems introducing her to resident cats or when new cats came into the house after her. She's been very tolerant with new kitties. As for keeping new cats isolated for a while, with us that lasts a day at best when the new cat is demanding to get the run of the house. We hold our breath and hope for the best. Fortunately, it's always gone well.
I was never lucky on that matter. My cats were always insane about newcomers. It has been months now and it will take a few more months to my older cat tolerate the mere presence of the new one.

It would be cool if you could include approximately how long every step took until you had to go to the next. I know it’s different for every cat, but it would still be nice to know how long they should be in separate rooms, after how much time should you play with them both under the door (it’s kind of hard when you’re one person), how long after that they ate on either side of the door, etc. Because I started this process for 3 days now & there’s no way my cat is going to play with them under the door yet or eat too close to the door either, I tried with treats & my older cat pushed them more towards her rather than the treat being close to the door. She’s getting more used to the idea of them being there & more comfortable since she’s peaking under the door & putting her paw under the door (hissing though) & scratches at the door because she wants to go in & as for the two kittens they’ve been comfortable since day 1 & want to go into the room with my cat to explore & keep trying to run out which gives me a heart attack because I’m scared my older cat (who’s only 2 tho) will hurt them! So I need more details please!

Our kitten, Curly, ran up to both our older boys. King Tut, sniffed then walked away. Fuzzy, hissed at him. 2 days later, they started playing together.

Awesome video! I'm surprised I knew a lot of these tips already (somehow) lol! My older cat is not happy AT ALL about my new bundle of joy!! But I'm hoping and praying he will grow to love her! The new kitten really does just want to play with him but by my older cats actions such as (hissing, growling)and there's just a look in his eyes that tells me they need to keep their distance!! Lol. My older cat is 2 and my kitten is just 8 weeks! I'm really praying this works out bc this little kitten is the sweetest girl! ❤🥰❤

really nice vid. i have a 5 yo former outdoor, now indoor cat, in a 4000 sqfoot house, who just got used to a new large breed puppy after 3 months. the puppy wants to play with cat, cat now tolerates puppy but still not allowed to get too close, so we want to bring in a kitten to bridge the gap, the kitten will play with both the cat and the puppy. hoping that will give both the puppy and the cat a new totally objective pal and playmate.

Great and fun video. Just perhaps consider swapping the areas where cats are once the kitten gets comfortable enough in their first area. The poin is to allow the kitten to explore slowly room by room the entire house, while the OG cat doesn't feel like they "lost" part of their territory, and neither of them ends up overowning any room. This should help removing "this room is mine" feeling, and slowly turn it into "this area is ours".

We rescued 2 5 month old kittens about a month apart. The female hated the new male kitten at first separated them for a few days then we did the step meeting at the door. Now they are pals 2 weeks later.

Kittens are the best! We introduced our kittens to each other through a carrier which works great too :-)
A kitten appeared on my village. I don't know where it came from, but it is not afraid of or my cats. They hiss when it comes close to them, but it doesn't seem to care. I fed it and now it likes me. When I am petting my cats and it comes too, my cats are almost always the ones who run away after a while
I just threw mine into the wringer lol. Took 3 days for hissing to stop and now they're best friends lol.cant stay away from each other. Not that I'm recommending this lol..just sharing my could have been disaster. -- it helps if you know your older cat well. Mine was pretty chill and sweet, so I knew he'd get along with the kitten fast
This is probably the best way to introduce a new kitten. Whats funny is if you dont do it in this way depending on the personalities they can click or become friends or hate each other :/
