Megan Merrells fingers crossed that if it sells well enough it may one day be sold in stores! Seriously the best top coat and base coats ever. Packaging is beautiful. I’ve dropped nail polish bottles before and they’ve cracked or chipped but I dropped hers on accident and it was totally fine.
I always figured the reason Cristine puts so much work into Holo Taco is cause she's making her dream polish, like what she would expect from a quality product, and profits aren't the main point. I like how much she didn't compromise for quality.
and this is why I prefer her polish to just going to CVS :] I trust in the quality of a passion project!

Just FYI, the matte/rubberized cap is one of the first things I noticed when I first pulled it out of the box and I LOVED it! I thought it was such a simple yet genius detail. Apart from functionality it just feels nice holding it. It’s nice to know that so many things were actually thought out so purposefully. Also.......Because the bottle base is so thick, it makes a really nice sound when you rub the bottles together. Like that marble-y sound? I might be weird, but I like it, haha!

No, actually, I've totally noticed the tiny details. One you didn't mention here is the way the box packaging closes - it allows you to open it with flats of fingers instead of nails in an easy manner but when it closes, it's a very strong closure.

The little polish boxes have a very satisfying "snap" to them when they fully close. It's really hard to get that just right on packaging. And honestly, the light sparkle on these little boxes is beautiful too. I've never seen anyone put that much detail in every single part of the product they sell. Usually, that detail only goes into the main product itself... but when it starts at the gorgeous packaging, you just KNOW you have a quality product in your hands!
Just by looking at it you can tell how much she cares about every single aspect of the product she is delivering to her costumers 🥺
I didn't notice the black tape on the boxes was holo until I had the box in sunlight, such a small detail that took me 5 boxes to notice and now I always look at it when I grab polish
I absolutely love the bottles, they look and feel incredible. The polish is gorgeous, when I wear it, I’m constantly looking at my nails. Please restock the rainbow collection, I’m missing lemon sucker and green taffy. I neeeeed them !!!

So, I though I was just a nerd, but I totally noticed the rubberized cap is easier to open, the heavy weight of the bottle keeps it from tipping over, and that the logo is printed on top. I also love that the text is printed on holo. I 100% trust that I will love everything I purchase from Holo Taco.
This makes me appreciate and want to buy her nail polish, but I never wear nail polish😭
That was me until month 5 of the pandemic. Haven’t painted my nails in about 8 years and now I have a small Holo Taco collection going. Gives me something to do and the holo makes me smile!

I suck at painting my own nails but holo taco goes on so well and usually in one coat, it makes it easier. I like supporting the company and omg the polish is just so pretty. I am not girly but I love it!

I'm a small business owner and make soap and body care products, so i totally felt that ending bit about labeling and product size! For example my soap bars are labeled as 4oz, but because they are handmade and cut they are actually anywhere from from 4.1-4.7oz.
Going back through my spreadsheets I realized that for a whole freaking year that I had miscalculated costs somewhere (even though I update it monthly) and was under charging by $2/bar 😱 oh well. You live and learn lol! I angst over packaging and labeling, and I love when customers notice the little details. You guys are business goals!

I really appreciate the care that has gone into the Holo Taco products. A year ago I was a nail biter and never painted my nails. Now I paint them at least every other week with Holo Taco polish and the quality shows. My nails end up looking professional even though a newbie painted them ;p
This should have more upvotes and a love from the channel. I’m a nail bitter too and my dream is to stop so I can wear this amazing polish. I’ve tried. I’ve tried so many times and I just can’t seem to stop the anxiety that causes the biting. So until I figure that out, my polish is sitting there... waiting.

When you hold a bottle of holo taco you definitely can’t help but notice the high quality in the polish and component. It’s honestly a joy to use. I really appreciate the attention to detail in the packaging and the way the bottle feels nice in your hand when you use it. The box it was shipped in was also super cute and I was delighted when I pulled it out of my mail box. It was such a good experience buying your product from start to finish. I actually did notice the bottles were different, there's like an extra wall of glass at the bottom. I LOVED that. 100% agree with Cristine, it makes the holo look better. I guess something to do with light refraction due to the additional glass ...idk. MaGiCaL bOtTlEs for a MAGICAL POLISH.
Your nail polishes are the best. You guys didn't have to explain all the specs, but it makes me appreciate it even more. I used mine so often, I'm already purchasing my second flakie taco!

I actually thought the extra glass at the bottom made it look like you were getting less nail polish and I thought it was very angular looking but now that I've watched this I definitely see the benefits both aesthetically and functionally. Thank you.

I love indie nail polish - I've been buying it for many years. One pet peeve is makers with bottles that hold less than 15ml of nail polish. For some reason in my head, that volume translates to value for money. If your bottles hold more, I wish you would adjust the labels accordingly.
When you first launched, and you had a holo label on your bottles (screen printed on directly, not just a sticker) and custom nail caps, I could tell those were expensive, high quality decisions. I mean, those elements are not things you see very often for a reason. Thanks for chatting about this nitty gritty stuff. It's fascinating.

The bottles and caps are one of my favorite parts of the product because they’re so professional and they feel so smooth and incredible. The polish is, of course, incredibly high quality but the packaging makes the product that more high end. ❤️
As long as Cristine makes sure the employees are cared for, I'll keep buying. I loved my Holo Tacos so much I bought some for my grandma. Unfortunately Trump fucked up the formerly always reliable USPS right as my order shipped so My grandma hasn't gotten hers yet 😭
USPS lost my package. We can't ship to NZ so we shipped it to a friend, when he went to pick it up they legit couldn't find it> :( At this rate I'll never get to try it.

@@Demi.d3mi I don't know about the USPS in your area but compared to FedEx and UPS it was the best in every place I've lived. Before this year, deliveries were quick, tracking was always accurate, and most importantly: my packages never looked like someone used it as a football.
The last time I used FedEx was back in February and they kept scanning my package in the wrong city for two weeks after the expected delivery date and claimed there were multiple delivery attempts to my house while never showing up. I finally had to go to a store to get it myself and the box was so beat-up all the bubble wrap inside had popped and the outer box had water damage.
I haven't used UPS in years, since I saw a driver chucking boxes out his truck like bean bags and a couple of them popped open on the street.
Ugh. The stories coming out about the administration’s assault on USPS make me so angry. I hope your grandma gets her polishes soon, what a great gift!

Literally the best polish I have ever used. The funny part is I haven’t even ordered the holo tacos but the creams are my favorites, they go on smooth, without streaks, dries quickly and the brush makes application so easy. Your passion shows and I will be ordering more as you release more. It is fantastic polish and packaging. Keep it up!!!

Having worked in major retail brand headquarters as a designer, I can tell you that their profit margins are so ridiculous that 100% of the products get watered down from their initial concept by at least 30%, and more often than not get stripped of everything that was supposed to make the product special. Their #1 goal is to make the most money for as little production cost as possible, so a decision to spend _more_ money on products for higher quality is something very rare in major retail brands.
Mad respect to Cristine & Ben for sticking to her ideals to create the best product, and not shying away from investing money to ensure that she’s delivering high quality products.

The rubberized top is fantastic! Such a small detail for people like me who occasionally have days where my hands don't grip very well, but makes a huge difference. If you can't grip well, even using a shiny polish lid to apply a polish can prove difficult. I've dropped nail polish brushes before now because of this.
I pretty much never wear nail polish. Maybe once a year, I'll splurge and paint my nails. About 3 times in my life, I've had a manicure. But I love them so much, and their polish is the like the highest quality it can be, and I actively love all of the colors, cremes, toppers, holos, etc like I feel like I need to invest in these and paint my nails more often. Y'all are doing such a good job
I really love Halo Taco, I only use HT and OPI. My main collection was just OPI before but I like to pair these polishes together. I’ve noticed that HT does dry much faster! & I never noticed that the HT bottle was custom but I definitely noticed the glass bottom, it always felt very dense.
Also marketing and advertising is usually a pretty large part of costs for a company, especially newer ones.
Nail Polishes that are easier to water marble because we all struggle like you do and magnetic holo polishes to really bring the the glitter to the center.
You transparency is amazing, I can’t speak for everyone but little details make a huge difference . It makes me pick one brand over another

Such a great video. As a small business owner myself I find this super informative. And it's so true that when it's your own product it's important to give it the exact look and feel that you want. That is super evident with holo taco and all the details you added. It's high quality and unique.
I love these tiny details. I was trying to work out if the bottle was custom because it looks similar to a major brand and my conclusion was that the bottom looked thicc. I was very impressed overall by the bottle because it's easy to only look at the HOLO packaging.
And I thought it was on purpose the bottles were so filled! Well thank you for the extras!

The matte handle is such an important touch! The grip these bottles is certainly noticeable and im excited to not have teeth marks in these from desperately trying to open the bottle 😅
I’m glad to hear this business is doing well. I love this line because (1) Love glitter/holo anything but mainly (2) that I don’t have to do 4 coats (or the “dab” with the brush to get glitter on).
My daughter is in 3rd grade (and too young for adult make-up) and it’s been really fun being able to share this with her (before she becomes a teenager and thinks I’m lame haha). Anyways, great job to both of you. Your product really stands out!
As a long time fan who only recently started buying polish/painting her nails during quarantine as a way to relieve stress, I definitely feel the quality in your products. They feel luxurious, from the bottle to the polish itself, and that is why they are my favorite.

As someone who has issues with hypermobility and finds it very hard to open nail polish bottles because of it, I appreciate the easy grip, matte cap. It can hurt to open the more glossy caps because I can't grip them as easily so when I finally get my hands on Holo Taco, I'll be very excited for that!

Can I just say, thank you so much for balancing the high-quality nature of the nail polish and the commercial aspects of managing a company?
So so realist and amazing. The fact that you guys considered revenue and profit margins, and balancing the ethics of producing high quality polish in high quality container as part of your brand, is AMAZING.
I’d suggest a book called Cradle to Cradle. Excellent read on the life cycle of products and how to rethink waste. Glass is recyclable without too much loss in quality, but maybe there are better products for the handle and grip, or packaging that provide the same (or better) benefits without ending up in a landfill, or costing more (some may cost more to start, but less hazardous or less storage needed so cheaper overall). I’m not being critical, just suggesting ways that you could look to refine the details and enhance the product in ways you may not have come across. Is a glass handle something that is available, I would assume a lot more expensive, but it would be a cool change for a special edition.
The problem with nail polish packaging is that nail polish is technically "dangerous waste" in most countries afaik and so it's not possible to reuse the packaging. Still, it's definitely better to have high quality packaging like Holo Taco, so that the nail polish is well preserved and easy to use, meaning it's more likely people will use it all instead of wasting it because of eg. faulty packaging, drying out etc.
I absolutely love the bottom weighted sturdy bottle and how it doesn’t tip over as easily as other bottles
I know it was probably a no-brainer for you to want to customize things, but I love the amount of detail and thought you put into every factor of your brand. It really makes it special

I just spoiled myself with my first order of holo taco! I need to pay a lot of tax but with the website doing it automatically it hurts less and it’s the best nail polish I ever user! Usually nail polishes don’t dry on my nails so I don’t wear it...I didn’t even but the long lasting base! Every thing you thought of really shows! Thank you for making me able to wear nail polish more than a few hours lol

This is a good lesson for people saying that to be successful a CEO has to be shitty. They straight up said that they want the product to be bomb and their team to be paid and treated well... I like them a lot and even more when they make this podcast they are so open and transparent, at least they seem to be.

Honestly, we notice. I hate when I buy nail supplies (won't name the brand) and they come in a packaging (or bottle) that is really hard to open with long nails. Or the bottles tip over way to easily when you use them with one hand.
Holo Taco was designed by a person that regularly uses it and it shows.

I have purchased every single thing you have created (except for the unicorn skin launch, I unfortunately missed that one so I just had to get the unicorn skin individually) because of those attentions to detail. I absolutely love it!

Those small details on your polish are like baseboards, if you clean them no one ever notices them. But when you don’t clean them, everyone sees them!!! Those small details are what helps us draw to the conclusion that you have produce a great product. Even if they are not individually highlighted!!!!

Holo Taco is the only nail polish my mom and I will ever EVER wear. And we are HAPPY to pay extra per bottle. Currently wearing Not Milky White with the base and a flaky holo taco and I’m obsessed with how it looks. It reminds me of snow even though it’s August💙❄️

I didn't buy Holo Taco until recently (1st anniversary collection) and then immediately when I got my order and actually tried the products, I put in another order for other polishes so quickly because it's BLATANTLY obvious to anyone who actually uses nail polish that these polishes are SUPER GOOD QUALITY.
I now understand why I can get the HoloTaco bottles open...

@@alicia_grace actually I don't touch my savings because it's a savings account I don't use it for frivolous spending. Anything that I buy the to treat is from designated spending money not the savings. Budgeting is important when setting goals especially Financial ones and it's important to maintain boundaries after you set those goals

I just bought the base coat and linear halo and i am in LOVE. It makes the cheapest, nastiest polishes look STUNNING! I'm so excited to paint my nails all the time now, well worth every single cent. AND! It was shipped and arrived so unbelievably fast, i was shocked! Prettiest and highest quality stuff i own by far 😁

I've never seen a product that has or weights exactly what it says on the package / bottle. Companies always "play it safe" with that so they don't have legal problems after, there's always some extra ml or grs on everything you buy.
Imagine you are selling let's say 14 ml of nailpolish and someone gets 13.9, you could get sued, and loss a lot of money on that little detail (and there's ALWAYS some bored people looking for them)

Your base coat and quick try top coat are by far the best I have ever used! I can wear most regular polish for at least 5 days before I decide to change it, and not because it is chipping!
