Xiaomi has never claimed that their upcoming car model can achieve a range of 1200 km. If you've watched their launch event, they only mentioned that their platform theoretically allows for a maximum battery capacity of 150 kWh, which is equivalent to a 1200 km range. However, this 1200 km figure is purely hypothetical. Specifically for the Su7 model, it currently offers versions with a 73.6 kWh battery providing a range of 668 km and a 101 kWh battery offering an 800 km range. Moreover, these are figures for the single-motor version; if it's the dual-motor version, the range would be reduced to 628 km and 750 km. Regarding the motor, the mentioned 35,000 RPM is only a peak value obtained in a lab setting without considering durability, and it has never been a focal point of Xiaomi's promotion. For the upcoming car models, Xiaomi provides options with 27,200 RPM, 578 PS (referred to as v8s, expected to launch in 2025), and 21,000 RPM, 374 PS (referred to as v6s, expected to launch this year). These figures sound much more reasonable. I bet they haven't actually watched Xiaomi's launch event or reviewed official posters and content. Instead, they seem to rely on exaggerated rumors for attention. If you have watched the event, you wouldn't confuse these imaginary data with production cars; it's quite funny. The Su7 has already been approved by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). MIIT approval is a stringent criterion in China, and all approved models inevitably go into production because it signifies passing range tests, collision tests, compliance with emission regulations, and high costs-things that concept cars don't need to bother with. Xiaomi Su7's launch in 2024 is a 100% certainty. If you're genuinely interested in Chinese EVs and not just venting on TH-cam, I recommend following a TH-camr called "Telescope望远镜" He provides a lot of genuine information about cutting-edge Chinese EVs, caters to international audiences by explaining in English, and emphasizes key points with international cognitive differences.
100% agree with you. They haven't watched launch event for sure. They don't even know Xiaomi already said it will support apple car play. They just relied on false rumors and made 13 min conversation around it They keep saying standard range 500 Mi where as RWD Xiaomi quotes 668 KM.. Completely misleading information by hosts. Typical American ignorance
What do you expect from American media though?. Every time Chinese stuff come up they'll be like "yeah, it's chaayyynnnaaaahhhh". What they don't understand, it's always start like that and suddenly it's coming and is good and they'll act like nothing happened in the past they just go on.
Stuff like this always happens when these guys try to talk about cars. I hate to be a gate keeper, but it cringes me out every single time. Either get some knowledge about the automotive space before you talk about it, or don't bring it up at all on the podcast. The quasi-car talk is half hearted at best and frustratingly bad at worst. Also, daily reminder for Marques that Taycan rhymes with Icon. Its literally on Porsche's own TH-cam.
Xiaomi SU7’s range is CLTC number and times that by 0.7 you will get EPA number. So it’s not 500mi but 350mi-ish for 74kWh which is doable with structural battery / CTB tech. Zeekr 007 has similar spec - 75kWh battery, ~340 converted EPA mi, starting price of $29k and is ALREADY SHIPPING. So yeah, it’s like 99% coming out but spec isn’t as ridiculous as you guys think it is.
Remember to quote and link your source "Telescope" when you use his material. Quite a number of factual errors, suggest to redo your show - or at least upload layover corrections! Next time maybe watch the Xiaomi press event?
Clarify: the 750 mi is for the to-be-released 150kwh from CATL (NIO already uses that), and the 500 mi one is the 101kwh that they are shipping this year. There would be a base version as well for ~75kwh. All those numbers are Chinese CLTC based numbers, which would be 15% higher than EAP or WLTP used in EU or US. So when they say 500 mi, they mean 420 mi in EAP in the US. (China has a different mix of highway and local). The thing is the price, the current consensus is $30k for 75kwh one, $35K for 100kwh one. no where near $55k, it's impossible to sell that price in China with the segment of customers they are targeting. The charging is legit as there are already car companies in China (Li auto) with the actual video showing 520kw peak charging for more than 7 minutes, but yeah you need specialized super charging stations as regulars are still 350 or 250kw. Either way, way more choices in China compared to US where the only viable option is Tesla and they haven't really refreshed for 4 years.
If you're wondering about the crawfish fact, here's something to solve your confusion. When it says double the size, It probably means double in volume. Which means approximately cube root of 2 (or 1.26 ) times the original length. Because the length is directly proportional to the cube root of volume. So a 1cm crawfish could grow to 40cm by calculation.
The reason why the range looks very long is probably xiaomi uses China’s CLTC standard for testing, which tends to have higher numbers than epa. For example, on Tesla China’s website, the model s shown in the podcast has 715km/444 mi CLTC range instead of 405 in EPA
Funny how the Xiaomi EV turned out to be quite real and a major game changer in the industry in all senses. They gave us what they promised. I love how Marcus is so set on not considering anything other than Tesla and Porche as competition or even good EVs. Maybe his friendship with Elon is a bit too, marketing related and don't wanna cut that up by saying anything good about Xiaomi I guess lol
Hey guys, one hint regarding the range of Chinese EV. Their range is measured using the NEDC (a test procedure). This procedure has a very low average speed and only requires very weak acceleration. Therefore the values for the electric consumption (and the resulting range) are really good. If you‘d test any European or American EV with this test cycle, the range based on that test cycle would also be much higher than the EPA range. To sum it up, if a EV is announced in China for the Chinese market, don’t compare that range figure to the EPA ranges you are used to, since they are based on to completely different test procedures. It would be like comparing you phones battery life in a processor benchmark test to the phones battery life playing on-device 30 fps video.
Thank you guys for the consistent uploads and dedication to covering such a variety of things. I’ve been having a horrible week and it’s so nice to have an hour of entertainment while also feeling the productivity of learning. ACTUALLY 2 HOURS!! Amazing
the "doubling" is probably doubling mass/volume. Any shape (if remaining to scale) only needs to grow about 26% in length in order to double in volume (a 1x1x1 cube has a volume of 1, whereas 1.26x1.26x1.26 is ~2). SO, that means if you multiply your length by 32.5, your volume will multiply by a bit over 34,000. Babies only around 3-5 mm after the larvae stage, so that means you only need to get to a length of 10-16 cm to be 34,000x bigger in total volume
Xiaomi SU7 range is in the standard of CLTC testing, for example Tesla Model Y long range awd on China's website states the range as 688km in CLTC standard which is equal to 427 miles.
29:39 There're some errors in the parameters of Xiaomi SU7. The 35000 RPM motor is still in the lab validation stage while the maximum speed of the V6s motor on the SU7 is 21000 rpm. And the range of 1200km is the upper limit of SU7's platform, I haven't heard any news about mass production.
Apteras trick is efficency. If your car uses very little energy in total, you can make the battery small and light and still achieve range. And because the battery pack is so small, the solar panels can actually give you 40 Miles a day of range just from parking in the sun. That is more than the average person in the US drives a day. All of that on 100% free energy from the sun. And you can still plug it in if you want to. It's a brilliant vehicle concept if you think about it.
1:34:00 David, actually depending on where you are in the world depends on what is considered as a continent and therefore varies how many continents there are. If i remember correctly the range is something like 7-10. It's just like how some countries don't recognise another country as a separate country to some other country. So there is a varied number of countries in the world depending on where you're based too.
Just watched the original response video from Telescope about the Xiaomi car, I know and totally understand you guys Americans don't get much exposure to Chinese or asian gadget/car brands which is totally not your fault, but I think you guys are just perpetuating the stereotype that Americans are just a bunch of ignorants with this comments. Like the lack of research is just surprising... from something big channel like MKBHD... like guys I expect more from you and the most mind-blowing thing is you guys don't even bother to give the original source of the video you're using, no caption or link at the description at all (29 Jan at 00:44 AM in GMT+7)... I can say I'm really disappointed with you all
Mariah brings a good energy to the show. I think it might just be that the normal 5 of you have like... the same pitch of voice. So having a different pitch is refreshing lol
I'm interested to know what you guys don't like about One UI have you guys tried it recently? I feel like there are so many settings you can really make it whatever you want. I don't miss any of the features of Nova Launcher.
With Good Lock I feel every little aspect of it can be tailor maid to anybody's preference. I now have the 6x7 icons' drawer because display feels too large for less. Camera Assistant also allows me to force the use of the other lenses instead of the phone deciding to go to main camera if lightning is not perfect.
And they haven't got a clue what Bixby is used for. For routines and on-phone automation, it is fantastic!! As an Assistant (Siri/Google Assistant) it's meh, but it does so much more and isn't going anywhere despite what the panel states. Clueless on Samsung's OneUI software.

Thanks for the added visuals during trivia! Super helpful to have all the answers on screen after the question has been asked to then go back to the others and have a think about them. Really helped me play along.
Sounds like there's an unused live mic picking up the audio from everyone else's mic...or the gain on everyone's mic is set too high, picking up the audio from the person next to each mic. Probably knew this already and couldn't resolve this if the mics are all going to 1 input from a mixer...then again even if each mic was on its own input, if the gain was recorded too high from jump, it would be hard to get rid of that... especially when people are talking simultaneously. Used to deal with this issue all the time.
This desk is more used in the music community, but the Output Platform desk is one of the best purchases I've made. The desk is super sturdy, looks dope to me, and has nice cable management. They also have all of their specs online for anyone who would want to save money and make their own.
Hey @mkbhd just a correction on the bonus trivia question. You can actually find crayfish along the coast of South Africa in Cape Town. Cape Town is known for their crayfish industry. BTW love the podcast and loved seeing Mariah❤
With the whole CarPlay thing, I think one thing that wasn’t discussed that’s pretty important is Siri support. Siri’s not great at everything, but home (and car?) automation it does a pretty good job with. If I don’t need to use digital or even physical buttons because I can have Siri change climate, or heated seats, or even open the garage door with Home integration….sign me up!
Thanks for sharing all the information : ) FYI 39:14 Xiaomi announced that SU7 will have Apple Carplay. (Actually a large portion (maybe 50%+?) of users on Xiaomi's IOT platform are connecting with iOS devices).
I always liked Ellis and Adam but Honestly Mariah especially this being her first time that I can remember. She's a natural and amazing at producing I hope she does it a lot more
As a big blogger with more than a million followers, it is unacceptable that there will be information errors every time in the video, and the fact is that Su7 is not being delivered in a year or so, but has already begun to be delivered

You know it is kinda believable if Xiaomi announces an EV with 700miles of range. They were one of the first companies to come up with over 100w fast charging for smartphones smartphones , they probably have a decent knowledge and infrastructure for battery tech. They might pull off atleast 600miles imo
Ev batteries aren’t even close to phone batteries, if they were every phone company would be making ev’s. The difference between a phone batter and ev battery is just as big as the difference between a phone and a car.
Thinking about your comments about car play and physical buttons. How interesting would it be for the manufacturer to put the equivalent of a stream deck button matrix so you can map functions to physical buttons? You could remap on your phone and the manufacturer could control the degree of "mod-ability" available. Might be a good middle ground.
@55:07 One great possibility with having a greater integration with Android Auto or Apple Car Play and electric cars. Is now the navigation has real time battery SOC data, maybe even the ability to precondition the car. If Apple/Google Maps really tried with Trip planning for road trips. It means that most people don't have to use the rubbish trip planners than come on most non-tesla EVs. On top of that the maps will probably have the greatest source of charge station utilization, with public data + the data it gets from cars its connected to and knowing their plans etc. You would think Google maps has something like this in the works, atm I can search charging stations on google maps and it shows me how many people are there etc, but it would be perfect for it to be aware of my SOC and plan/change my route accordingly.
Regarding Xiaomi car range, it's stating range using the unrealistic CLTC standard which is about 35% higher than an EPA rating. So the Model 3 CLTC rating would be about 452 (333x1.35) miles. If the SU7 has slow acceleration I think it could reach 500 miles of range but it would be similar to a Model 3 driven gently.
Underlying in-lab drive cycle measurement is pretty similar between EPA, CLTC, NEDC and WLTP… but EPA literally ask OEMs to multiply that number by 0.7 and then weighted for highway (55%) and city (45%) 😑
My favorite tech of 2023 by far is the Meta Quest 3. It may even be my favorite tech of all time. It's my first VR headset and I'm absolutely blown away by the experience. It's not perfect and could use some minor improvements but overall I think it is amazing.
That mattress topper sounded cool(hehe) then you shared the price...and then the fact that it's got a subscription model...and my money cowered back into my wallet.
1:03:55 The material of the keyboard chassis affects the typing sound significantly. keyboard enthusiasts spend lot of time and money to tune their keeb to get the sound and feel they want. Plastic case - more of hollow, Pingy sound but cheaper to make. Aluminium case - more of a low pitched sound . better option if u want a thocky, creamy keyboard but expensive. You can tune the sound through foam, plates , switches etc too though. This doesn't mean u can't get a keeb with polycarbonate case to sound thocky though.
Reason I went for the S23+ over the S23U was the flatter screen. Hopefully the S24U really does go full flat. I'd also never buy a new car without Android Auto and Apple Carplay, or at the very least an Android Head Unit.
Aptera is supposedly legally classified as an "autocycle". Supposedly that gives it all the benefits of a motorcycle (reduced insurance cost, only a license plate in the rear, etc.) but none of the drawbacks (required to wear a helmet, safety?, etc.) And on the topic of shipping, at least they have production intent builds rolling off the line, with volume manufacturing of their "BinC" (Body in Carbon).
Soon. They’re in the process of building the production-intent vehicles, which will be used for validation and testing over the next few months. At this point, there’s not much doubt they’ll make it to production, likely hitting the market later this year. To be clear, though it’s technically classified as an autocycle, the Aptera will for all intents and purposes function as a car. A two seater car with an exceptionally large cargo area in the back. I’m planning to get one and it’s going to be the perfect road trip car for me.
Well 3 months after this podcast was released, the Xiaomi SU7 is a real car and you guys were wrong about so many things regarding the car and the company.. did not expect that from MKBHD.. disappointed..
50:06 i feel like it’s time for an standard, the same way ocpi is an standard for ev charging tecnology integration, there should be an interface for ev os for carplay and android auto do their custom implementation, that way you can just ship a car with any OS. Surprise apple and google haven’t push for that yet.
Loved visual references being used! I don't know if that was Mariah or just a general change, but was lovely to be able to see what was being talked about.
1:21:54 Didn't expect a shout-out of 64Audio Volur. Most tech TH-camrs don't seem to care about audio quality and audiophile products so the two communities have always been split in my mind. Would be cool if tech TH-camrs could turn their analytical approach to HiFi audio. There's tons of fluff and snake oil in HiFi that could use scrutiny.
1:09:23 I like using all the available browsers. Different compartments for different tasks. They all work. They all have pros and cons. I use them all. All the major ones anyway.

Samsung could low-key one-up Google by having a bunch of new AI photo features process on device, since the latest pixels need to have the photos backed up to the cloud and connected to the Internet for some of their features
Moriah was my office favorite because of her OSRS desk mat. Then I got hyped when I saw the Sea Shanty 2 shirt. Then she hit them with a Runescape trivia question. Best episode yet!
Xiaomi claims the range figures based on the China Light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). CLTC Testing is usually more optimistic than the EPA and WLTP tests that are used in the US and Europe, respectively. This means that the CLTC range figures are often higher than the real-world range, As a rule of thumb, anticipate approximately 10-25% less range in real-world driving compared to CLTC figures.
15:10 Oh my god she was on the ball. The music came up before the word Trivia left his mouth. She also does a little dance with it, just as I always do. Petition for the regular producers to do a little dance as well.

All of that on 100% free energy from the sun.
And you can still plug it in if you want to.
It's a brilliant vehicle concept if you think about it.
Exactly. And I’m very much looking forward to driving mine when it hits the market later this year!
34:12 You don't know about BYD, do you?
They don't know $hit about anything outside of US I guess 😀
@@dragsteraa well, I guess so
Just watched the original response video from Telescope about the Xiaomi car, I know and totally understand you guys Americans don't get much exposure to Chinese or asian gadget/car brands which is totally not your fault, but I think you guys are just perpetuating the stereotype that Americans are just a bunch of ignorants with this comments.
I agree, one UI has gotten a lot better in recent years and you have a decent amount of customization, especially with Good Lock.
Happy New Year guys. Looking forward to all the great content in 2024
Matt!
Tom scott’s “the greatest title sequence I’ve ever seen” is one of the most heartfelt tributes to media production i have ever seen. Hard to recommend enough!
Thanks for the added visuals during trivia! Super helpful to have all the answers on screen after the question has been asked to then go back to the others and have a think about them. Really helped me play along.
Keep Mariah on the show, her voice makes a balance to the podcast. Great way to start the year 🎉
Sounds like there's an unused live mic picking up the audio from everyone else's mic...or the gain on everyone's mic is set too high, picking up the audio from the person next to each mic.
Thanks for sharing all the information : )
FYI 39:14 Xiaomi announced that SU7 will have Apple Carplay. (Actually a large portion (maybe 50%+?) of users on Xiaomi's IOT platform are connecting with iOS devices).
I always liked Ellis and Adam but Honestly Mariah especially this being her first time that I can remember. She's a natural and amazing at producing I hope she does it a lot more
I downloaded the arc browser after listening to this podcast. I absolutely love it omg... it helps me manage and stay organise so easilyy!!
As a big blogger with more than a million followers, it is unacceptable that there will be information errors every time in the video, and the fact is that Su7 is not being delivered in a year or so, but has already begun to be delivered
The 1200km variant is coming later as per Xiaomi's press release. It seems the 100kWH is rated for 800km of range. So it is possible.
If they have watched the event, they wiil find out that Su7 ACTUALLY SUPPORT CARPLAY; it's quite funny.
If you're genuinely interested in Chinese EVs and not just venting on TH-cam, I recommend following a TH-camr called "Telescope." He provides a lot of genuine information about cutting-edge Chinese EVs, caters to international audiences by explaining in English, and emphasizes key points with international cognitive differences.
Understanding what you guys were talking about on the intro is always intriguing and confusing, like a movie starting with the final act.
Great idea!
24:59 Have we all forgot about Samsung's Sam Assistant? If they're personificating their AI, she could look like her
@55:07 One great possibility with having a greater integration with Android Auto or Apple Car Play and electric cars.
So in the end, basically what I said.
A “change this smartphone setting” competition would make a fun studio video.
Happy New Year everyone! Hi Mariah, finally on the podcast 🙌
This one was fun! 😂 happy new year guys! 🎉
My favorite tech of 2023 by far is the Meta Quest 3. It may even be my favorite tech of all time. It's my first VR headset and I'm absolutely blown away by the experience. It's not perfect and could use some minor improvements but overall I think it is amazing.
Do your homework
Say the source
That mattress topper sounded cool(hehe) then you shared the price...and then the fact that it's got a subscription model...and my money cowered back into my wallet.
2500 dollars plus a subscription is just nutty
RIP Tom Scott. He's still alive, but at least he gets to rest now.
Shout out to Mariah for holding down the fort. Happy New Year!🎉
Sound changed this time... 🤔.. thanks for another great episode!
There’s some interesting phasing going on with your guys voices. Was this recorded in stereo then squished to mono in post?
I was thinking the same thing. Their voices sound like someone pushed the fast forward button
It’s weird how there is sometimes audio errors, can someone please fix it?
26:35 Andrew, did I hear a "supposively" in there? You need to reel that in my guy.
Aptera is supposedly legally classified as an "autocycle". Supposedly that gives it all the benefits of a motorcycle (reduced insurance cost, only a license plate in the rear, etc.) but none of the drawbacks (required to wear a helmet, safety?, etc.)
And on the topic of shipping, at least they have production intent builds rolling off the line, with volume manufacturing of their "BinC" (Body in Carbon).
@@kevinscott8642 Yeah... I already included everything you just said in my original comment.
Can someone explain to me how Marques got an odd number when doing 2 to the power of exercise? 8183? 1:37:15
Big fan of the show, but do some research about the Aptera EV or/and make a video about it! Ithink you will change your mind about it!
This is crazy, I commented just a few days ago that it would be great to see new faces on the show, for example Mariah - and here she is! ✌️😀
Tom Scott is awesome, definitely worth checking out his channel
Loved visual references being used! I don't know if that was Mariah or just a general change, but was lovely to be able to see what was being talked about.
Yay! I got it right I picked the swing set... hahaha
Love you guys. Watch in my MKBHD sweatshirt every week
im happy we have so many mariah fans here. se shd be on the panel or appear more often atleast in studio
We need more Mariah! She def brought a really nice pace to the pod
1:09:23 I like using all the available browsers. Different compartments for different tasks. They all work. They all have pros and cons. I use them all. All the major ones anyway.
Audio issues?
Absolutely love this Podcast, I have been watching since just MKB and watched as it grew. And such Amazing people who have joined the team.Always Enjoy all of your Videos. ✌️💯
Marques talking about s24 ultra leaks, we know damn well he has one in his pocket already
I would loveeee another 1 hour 40 min episode!!!! more of this lads
Love what you do, guys! Kinda think it's bizarre to have 20 keyboards, Andrew.
Adam and Ellis look different today.
Love that you have an amazing backup as a producer! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Mariah was such a great addition. But damn the first shot of her was so funny - she looks so small in this big wide shot 😂 I am a fan of her!
Looking for a new turntable too, do you mind sharing which one you got?
Mariah looks so cute behind the controls , like a Disney character
Making blunders like not reporting correctly about an upcoming EV can get entire companies killed. We know Marques has that much influence.
Why didn't you give credit to the original TH-cam channel?
Such a unprofessional move
Mariah legit sounds like stevie from Good Mythical morning. She could fill in for her on that show and NOBODY would notice. Solid first ep of the New Year!
Tom's veideo about the pronunciation of GIF is fun!
Hysterical that David thinks the only way we will know something (Apple Watch outcome) is if it is covered (late) on their Podcast 😂
Is it just me or does Mariah have a excellent NPR /podcast voice.
