Ry owns my best solo in the universe: Taxes on the Farmer Feeds us All. Named my best dog after him in 1975. (Cooder, of course.) Saw him at the Riverboat in Toronto in March of1973, just after Into the Purple Valley was released. It was a born again moment. I had paid attention to rumors and gossip back when I was a teenager in 1969 - about the Stones' weird album called "Jamming With Edward." Apparently or allegedly that was Ry somewhere in there on the album. There were even rumors (that surfaced later) that he might actually have become a Stone after Brian died. But we can all be eternally grateful that this didn't happen - if indeed, it was more than just a rumor. He influenced my guitar picking (fingers, no pick) but I had uncommon good sense to never ever try imitating his slide. That was, and still is a most sacred thing. I cannot imagine a musical world without Ry. Thankfully, he never became a god. Mere mortality was always good enough for him. In the age and era of Pop and Rock gods, he remained true. Us fans always loved him for that. I like that I have seen him up close and personal, almost intimate in small joints, but on big stages too. Not gigantic Stones' affairs, but real music halls. Even with the ensemble presented here. I like the fact that Ry Cooder fans don't have a secret handshake. They're too busy listening to even think of such a thing.
Cooder. That man, that name, the roots. There's only one other band who is at its core so balls to wall -- NRBQ. Q's 38th Anniversary CD is off the hook. Both Cooder and Q make me wanna get up, dance and shout for joy! Of course there's many others but I can think of no one today in the age of Epstein and COVID that invokes such high spirits musically. I mean, what country could have given birth to Cooder, Terry Adams, Kenny Burrell, the three King's of Blues, Johnny Wright, Charlie Parker, Jaco -- giants that led the world in the most human of terms? Europe gave mankind the classis. America gave the world the heartbeat.
For Mr. Cooder: Thank you for sharing so much of your incredible music throughout the years. You have made our world a bit nicer with your musical contributions and your primo guitar playing. May you continue with your best in the years to come.
My heavens!!! What a great tone on da Coodercaster!!! Got to have me more of this kind of performance… Ry and the whole band are all AMAZING!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Flaco Jimenez struts his stuff on accordion at just past 5:00. If you had tried to tell me when I was fifteen that someday I'd be digging Rock bands with accordion players, I'd have thought you were nuts ---- but I have seen Ry and Flaco play together, and the Richard Thompson band with John Kirkpatrick, and I have seen the light!
This is surely one of the coolest and smoothest tunes around. Sure wanna have a party when I hear this. Ry Cooder definitely one of the best guitarists around and what a backing band. Great stuff indeed.
Chris Hart it was the Get Rhythm tour in 1988. I was there and he was amazing opening up in the pitch dark with some of the finest unaccompanied slide you'll ever hear.
You are so right music is very subjective and personal. Each musicians needs to be respected for what they do, not who's best. Ry, Eric, SRV, Buddy Al Collins etc they're all good. Comparing one to another is like saying mashed potatoes are better than baked!!
I too remember seeing Ry a few years back in London.Always hoped I'd be able to see him again, never did,bur these videos go some way to making up for it.Many thanks.
Ry is great on slide. I also recommend Rollin' and tumblin' by canned heat in Monterey '67. Let's work together also has some tasty slide guitar in it.
I'm just glad Ry got the respect of being ranked in the top ten. You'd think Ry's vocal abilities would at least give him the edge over Duane, and I'm a huge Duane fan.
Tell me if Im wrong, but I think Ry Cooder was the origin of what is now called "Americana". As is seen in this video, he appreciated all American music including North , Middle, and South American music. He started doing this publicly as a very young man on The Old Grey Whistle Test. He has performed so many times publicly when it was really about preserving American music. He could be said to be an historian of American Pop ( whatever that means, and I don't have a better characterization, except for " Americana ". Take a look on YT " Little Sister", a cover of an early Elvis song ( how American can you get ? ) and you will see his passion along with his amazing glass eye. That's another story all together, about how he lost his eye. And tell me this , who else does " Jesus on the Mainline " ? He is a collector of songs.
Terrific rhythem and the melody is explicidly great..r u with me? Ry Cooder is a slide man on his guitar and what a music legend he become..great band and backup singers are terrific..The phen9menal sound is going out over the airwaves and the fans are loving it..Ry is a terrific vocalist..
Absolutely! And stated by a dude that saw Duane free in the park in 1970...But, Ry already had lots of respect way before then. I still have the box a slide came in that mentions Ry's popularity (not Duane) that was The Reason This Slide Comes To You, etc.
good sound guys are so hard to find... the catalyst didn't find one this night, no horns... what piano? I know there are some drums.... I can see them. i feel sorry for Les, I feel sorry for me. mixt well this would have been something I would listen to as much as I listen to the cd version, which is mixt well oh well - it's cool to see for sure
"Money in my pocket, going to my head," "Got my money in my pocket, Can pay for my fun." "I gonna' ball like I never did before." I had a sub-prime mortgage, and my parents are dead or broke. I had a good job, but now that's just a joke. My sister was an attorney, but now she's got it worse. Well, we'll all live on the street, till we're all in need of a nurse. Money in my pocket, I can feel what it tasted like. My SUV; I had to trade in for a bike. The devil's in my pocket now...
Duane Allman has nothing on Ry. I cant believe in the Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists off all time Allman is ranked 2nd and Ry is ranked 8th. Should be the other way around

Ry Cooder, is other worldly in his talent, and then he collects all world musicians to play with him - wow
Wow. This music is for me. Thank God my brother told me about Ry. I have been on a binge ever since.
Ry Cooder is one of America's great musical treasures. I saw him in concert several years ago and he was amazing!
Yes, he was in Vancouver BC 🇨🇦 and it was simply the best ... yes the best.
Don't worry lads - anyone who knows anything knows Ry da man!

My heavens!!! What a great tone on da Coodercaster!!! Got to have me more of this kind of performance… Ry and the whole band are all AMAZING!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

What a band!! Singers threatened to steal the show.
This is surely one of the coolest and smoothest tunes around. Sure wanna have a party when I hear this. Ry Cooder definitely one of the best guitarists around and what a backing band. Great stuff indeed.
Really appreciate you posting these concert videos, which I'd never seen. So good.
Love Ry Cooder...have since his first album...if you haven't heard his son Joachim not like Ry but still very good.
I feel fortunate to having seen this tour when they played Wolfgangs in SF. Went BOTH nights. I have pictures to prove it ! Great memories !!!!
Russ D you lucky dog
Saw this line-up at Wembley Arena in the late 80's & to this day it's the most astonishingly fabulous gig |I've ever been to without exception!!!
Chris Hart it was the Get Rhythm tour in 1988. I was there and he was amazing opening up in the pitch dark with some of the finest unaccompanied slide you'll ever hear.
I saw Rye in Glasgow some years ago and was blown away. Great music. Thank you Ry. X
You are so right music is very subjective and personal. Each musicians needs to be respected for what they do, not who's best. Ry, Eric, SRV, Buddy Al Collins etc they're all good. Comparing one to another is like saying mashed potatoes are better than baked!!

174,835 looks and only 398 "Like"s??? 174,437 have no soul!
Jim Keltner..unlike any other drummer..
The go-to drummer for a gazillion recording artists. Good ol' Buster Sidebury!
The session drummer that too many are unaware of. The MVP of so many great artists' songs.
Yes this guy plays the drums like no other .... that good.
good sound guys are so hard to find... the catalyst didn't find one this night, no horns... what piano? I know there are some drums.... Is Ry Cooder a cajun?
I love his music!

Especially since richards stole from Ry
You right.

Balling is fun, but it can expensive.
I'll take this guy and Kirk Lorange over Derek Trucks anytime
it don't swing like the original by the wheels (or stray cats version)
