    That was some mighty fine a-pickin and a-singin. The Count of MC is a fabulous book which is probably why it didn't last you long. But instead of buying that ginormous volume, I would recommend a Kindle Paperwhite and the thousands of FREE classics available on the interwebs. All in a 3/8" package that always remembers where you stopped reading! Knowing where your food comes from and harvesting it yourself makes you appreciate it and respect the animal all the more.

    Your videos just keep getting better. This one is a great collection of vignettes that convey the simple magic of a sailing voyage and the adjusted perspective such a voyage demands. Herby, kudos on the recent "Celestial Nav for Dummies" blog entry - one of most easily understood summaries of basic nav concepts I've seen.

    Good job guys! Nothing like fresh caught passage fish. The sea is big magic and some wonderful days it lets you in on its mystical song. A good day.

    Heading east and winds hit or miss. At least your getting some winds and making miles. Nice fish and supper looked good. You need a fishing pole and a reel with a good drag. I didn't see a can of old bay that's shameful being from MD. Happy sailing.

    So here we sit on a rented bed, in Iowa after working all day. This is how we relax, watching you tube sailing channels, dreaming of that day when we raise our sails and catch fish to eat. Yall are doing awesome. So how is the sea sickness going Mattie? You seem to be doing great. Herbie is looking Dapper as usual in that hat. Ha ha. Keep up the good video footage.

      Hi Pate! You know, the seasickness wasn't bad at all! I got used to it really quickly. I think I took a pill for it once or twice when I knew it was going to be especially rolly

    Hey guys!
    I'm writing from Ontario (Canada) and was initially attracted by your rigging video. I sailed the west to east Atlantic solo in my Aloha 26 between 1998 to 2015. Yeah, that's a lot longer (full time) than I ever expected. But various financial solutions allowed me to keep heading to different European ports and avoiding that east-west leg back home for another year
    With my boat being "on the hard" since summer 2015, I'm thinking more often about wanting to sail the Atlantic again. While in Portugal I took the opportunity to purchase used self furling forestay. Since that rigging was from a 35? and heavier stay, I decided that replacing the wire was unnecessary. Since shortening the rig was needed, after cutting it to length by switching to stay loc, I had no trouble connecting it at the deck. Many years and miles later, after finally crossing back to Canada that particular part of the rigging still holding the mast up. But, I'm not about to trust ANY of the standing rig for another Atlantic voyage. Thanks for the Dyneema video! I'll seriously investigate that as an alternative to all-stainless, as I had planned.

    Long crossings can be a extra long wait. At least you have that light air sail!! I did find someone to do my mother thing here in PR. I appreciate you even trying!! So when are you going to shove off for Europe? My guess is that you are still in the Azores somewhere because of the timing of these videos.

    I take my fishing seriously. I fish for food. To keep this short, get at least a 50 lb rig and if you can a like rig for wire line (monel not SS) use a wire leader so you can fish different depths. The pole takes the shock, the reel drag allows the fish some time to hook it's self. Get a gaff.

    Greek pasta salad ! My favourite ! I like that drifter sail .That looks like you's are having far too much fun ! Ha Ha Ha
    Quick question Is 10 mm Dyneema strong enough to replace 5.8 mm SS ? Leonard Coan Great Canadian Artist This was a fantastic video. Fair winds and Cheers

    • @RiggingDoctor
      @RiggingDoctor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It certainly is strong enough, but make sure it is heat set or you might find yourself dealing with more creep than you bargained for.

    • @robertorzech2466
      @robertorzech2466 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean Heat Set ? Is this some sort of extra option that you pay extra for ? What do I do if it isn't Heat Set ? I can't return it. Can I heat set it in an oven or something like that ? Hot wated or Ice treatment ? Yikes !

    • @rodshehan3886
      @rodshehan3886 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heat set is a process used to preset, or prestretch the material, and as Herb says, to get rid of creep. Creep is a major problem in normal dyneema - where it will constantly stretch when under load, such as in fixed rigging. Material like Dynex Dux is prestretched / heat treated material that has very minimal creep under constant load.
      its a pretty technical field, but there are a lot tech articles available online. Google it, you will see.
      Like these guys, we have had synthetic rigging for a year now on our 54ft OAL ketch, done by me at anchor.

    • @robertorzech2466
      @robertorzech2466 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it looks like I'm doomed to be re-tightening my rigging for ever. But that's ok because that will keep a lazy guy like me vigilant at always checking and working on my rigging on a regular schedule. I have enough Normal Dyneema to last me two lifetimes so I won't be getting any more unless I win a lottery . Cheers

    Your knowledge about weather patterns in the Atlantic would be considered wizardry in 1492. Twas only ~20 generations ago. Just a bit humbling.
