      I was thinking the same I have a trip booked in two weeks to go to Medellin for the first time. I’m staying in poblado the supposed safe area but then I just saw a video of people getting held up in a nice restaurant in poblado 🤦🏻 so now I’m getting a little worried

    • @BoydJones
      @BoydJones 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nickychops6729 Same. It was an armed robbery in the restaurant of the Click Clack Hotel. Another tourist was robbed of his phone in Poblado last night apparently (he resisted: bad idea). Earlier in the month two tourists were robbed and killed in their hotel room in Laureles - they were soliciting women via Tinder.

    I've lived in Medellin in 2016, and I've just returned from a two month stay.
    It now rains almost every day there, or it did at least in February.
    Don't let anyone tell you Medellin is safe....muggings are common, often at knife point!. There is a high level of petty crime such as mobile phone theft and wallet theft etc.
    I keep hearing that 'Medellin has changed beyond recognition since the days of Escobar'. Well visually perhaps yes, with lots of new buildings and an excellent metro system.
    But many problems remain. It's expensive, the service sucks, the traffic is unruly and awful, and you will be targeted as a gringo for at least price gouging if not worse...
    Having said that, it's worth a visit... But it's no paradise...b

    Loved your video, FYI that was not coffee, that was probably “aguapanela” or something similar, it is a traditional drink nonetheless the food was not traditional at all, that’s contemporary food, I guess? Anyways, I do appreciate foreigners enjoying my city but the grass is very different when you are Colombian, they don’t kill/rob/kidnap you, only because you are a tourist other than that the city is an extremely dangerous place to be overall, infrastructure is outrageous, the healthcare system does not work, wages are insane low, corruption is terrible as well, really bad place to live unfortunately

    Medellin is just like every large city in the world. Some neighborhoods are safe, some are safe with a local escort, and some are generally avoided always. If you are a sex tourist going stupid places, with stupid people, at stupid times of the night, you are setting yourself up to be a victim. There are 16 comunas with 271 barrios. Do a little research and avoid certain places. Just like you would do in every single major American city. Violent crime is greater in about 20 major US cities as it is in Medellin. I have local friends, and some of the places I choose to visit I don't go without them. The light rail system is better and safer than any in the USA, London, or Paris. Looking forward to my next visit in 2025. Hopefully for 3 to 6 months.
