Lived there 3 months, if you are going there middle aged as a single man, it’ll be tough. There are different rules for the gringo at so many levels. Assimilation will be challenging, even with knowing Spanish and take many precautions. You will be blamed if anything is done in malice towards you by a Colombian. Why? Well, you gave opportunity, trust, or you decided to come to Colombia… that’s the mindset guys. In comparison to Mexico City, Buenos Aires, and Rio De Janeiro the people’s manners and etiquette is savage AF. I wanted to close line a moto f head many of times whizzing around the corner . I spent extensive months in all these countries, I got a good comparison. Medellin and the relationship with the gringo is bleak and they all know why you are here, you see it in their faces everyday. Do what you wish.
Your comment depressed me a little, as a single middle-aged gringo who's wanted to go to Colombia for a long time, not for the reasons people would assume but because I've met so many great Colombians and I love the idea of the country. What's the answer? Don't go to Medellin until I have a partner? Or just avoid the city or Colombia altogether?
Very informative and entertaining video. Although I definitely won't be walking around at 3am with headphones on, I think Medellin sounds much safer than it's reputation
It depends on what area you live in a two bedroom two bath brand new high end apartment in Santa Monica I paid $250 a month. Airbnb's are always going to be expensive if you live in the gringo areas you'll pay much more for your place.

I really appreciate this comment. You are absolutely right, my experience is very different from say a white person from the US or UK. Perhaps I need to make it more clear that I'm Colombian. In regard to the tricks and the pros, I really don't care. I've expressed that sentiment many times on my channel. It's legal here, it's one of the main attractions. Regardless, I'll keep doing everything to keep my self fit, hair transplant, plastic surgery, good diet, passive income, travel, etc. to attract real women at 50 or 60. One way or another, you're paying for it, lol.
Sorry to disagree about one thing; colombian cuisine is bland; I travelled 40 countries, 2 years ago I was in Colombia and also in Medellin; Colombia has great fruits, meat vegetables but combining those things together just isn't great, I think the cuisine can improve a lot, and this was a great disappointment. We also eat in some fancy reastaurants but after some days switched to an italian restaurant, it was much tastier. My country is ranked in the top 10 for safety, so compared with Colombia is a huge difference, but I think if you play buy the rulles the chances something happens to you are lowered extremly; leave valuables in safe at hotel, dress simple to blend in, use Uber to move... but in global I agree on all been said.
I 100% support Andrew. But, people are Not as friendly as you claim! The women are friendly, but the men no! I I'm male. lived there for two and a half months and I'm a very friendly guy. Most men were Not friendly to me - maybe because I do not speak Spanish. 95%, of people do not speak English. They do not even know what to say , so they come across as not friendly. Believe what you want, it 's not relevant until you go there and experience for yourself. It does feel good to be generous and kind to people because it's true, people have difficult lives. And yeah, the food IS bad. It's fried in oil, not good. Just an opinion.
We foreigners have a bad stereotype currently due to news coverage of a small minority of people who come here for malicious reasons. I've spoken about this with many people here, mostly taxi/uber drivers, and most have the perception that the majority of foreigners are here for these reasons. Since I speak Spanish they assume I'm one of the "good" foreigners, it's funny and sad lol.
You covered all topics accurately. You don't sugar coat things and that makes your content better, in my opinion. Did Felipe live in the US? his english is really good for a local. Even if you attend a bilingual school over there; you don't get to speak that well; unless he attended one and also lived in the US. You both have a good sense of humor.
Thanks Alex! No, he has never left Medellin. When I taught English here, all of my colleagues were from here and had never studied abroad, and all had fantastic English. Many of my students also went on to become English teachers. Most of them get better-paying jobs for companies overseas.
@@MedellinBuzz interesting because all my friends that attended bilingual schools have a terrible accent and cannot speak like him. He has a good choice of words; that's why I thought he had lived in the US before. Good content, keep up the good work.
I was in Medellin for 10 days and my breakfast place was Mundo Verde in centro Oviedo. Crepes and Waffles was also a good choice, The foods is cheaper in the centro for about 2 to 3 usa dollar but not that great.
Wow, Philipe speaks English very well. I wish my online teachers were as fluent 😢, but great information prior to a visit if not necessarily a precursor to moving there. Thanks for the highlights and keeping it real.

One challenge was restaurants and my lack of Spanish. Restaurante Mondongo's was easier. I enjoyed the small coffee shops. To revisit I would definitely take a online language lessons.
I also noticed that majority of locals and tourists using there credit card for almost everything. I noticed some friction when I paid with COP cash. Like I was a inconvenience.
You’ve been out of the States for too long. Homelessness is rising and there is no relief unless you’re an illegal immigrant. But if you’re born here, no help! So it is not worse in Colombia.

Too many because they have plenty of customers. There have always been working girls there but years ago they were for the locals and different and then it was discovered…another problem and not intended for you is that there are way too many TH-camrs promoting things there. 3 million Venezuelans in Colombia and most likely half of the prostitutes are not from Colombia. And it's the most popular tourist city so it's not hard to figure out why there are more in Medellin than other spots.
In general i dont find the people are adventure-son with food. They often dont use salt. Very rarely use hot. Not spicy. The meats they like well cooked. Chicken is often dry. And the list goes on. Saying that some home cooked dishes like gallina, thats home laying hens soups /stews as apposed to rosters stews. Home cooked. Nos mata un gallina. Which is special thing. ..honered guest. So as joke, you say - come by ,I'll kill you a hen, and everybody laughs. Means your a honnered guest... mata un gallina. Prostitutes have always been around in Colombia. Dont know what the issue is. If dont like like it dont particapate. If U hate it this not the place for U. Its a sexual place. A lot times the prostitutes are nice people. And dont why people bad about them. Say
two colombians talking about how safe it is to walk around anytime of night...ya for you. plus the one dude literally almost got murdered for no reason...screaming its safe ahaha okay
Hey, I didn't say it was safe. Felipe's been walking around the city for years. Anyone with a brain would understand that it's a different situation. Regardless, we all know that common sense isn't so common.
I think most people are mad that prostitution in Medellín is so in your face, out in the open, blatant, and highly visible There would be less problem if it's confined in close spaces, and more discreet. Source : I've been to Medellín 3 times and chatted with many locals
I didn’t like at all when you filmed random guys sitting with girls in a bar, doing their own stuff, and judging them , calling the girls prostitutes and guys as loosers or old . I suggest you to be more respectful : anyway you don’t look at all as Brad Pitt . Take care about your life !
@MedellinBuzz it's kinda of disrespectful not saying the name of someone's home correctly when someone tells you that you're saying it wrong. Not humbling yourself and understanding projects a certain perception about you even to your target audience. Americans are just as picky about things being said properly to the point the term "learn English" is a known American phrase. It's just having a passive attitude to have about someone's home that they have pride in is just a not a good look. I'm sure you meant nothing by it but your target audience is a spectrum of people that culturally they don't share the same sentiments. So with that, best of luck with the channel.
@@tashadfowler3465 so if a German says “the United States” when speaking German and doesn’t pronounce it in a perfect American accent, not in a German accent, its disrespectful? This is an argument for special people for sure. 😂 good luck with your life.
@MedellinBuzz English is a collective of languages, so speaking in other tongues or pronouncing something correctly shouldn't be hard. But for languages that don't use certain vowels or letters, it may be more difficult. Saying the correct pronunciation is no different than English words, so YOU trying to make an ignorant point is hilarious. You seem to carry that same American attitude of privilege when it comes to other cultures, and someone correcting a simple misunderstanding makes your privilege feel threatened. Every country I've travel to, I take time to learn because there is a distinct difference in saying Punto and Puto, and with that ignorant reply you gave, you seemed to be acting like the latter. And when your life is as blessed as mine , luck nor likes are needed. Maybe my family or I will run into out there, and we can chop it up in person. Again, good luck with your channel. may you get everything you deserve in life 💛
@MedellinBuzz will do ! Well I expect the part walking at 1 am everywhere blasting music won't be the same if you are blonde with blue eyes and an American accent 😂
@@MedellinBuzz btw great content. I might be coming to colombia for business and looking for fellow entrepreneurs. I am from France, worked in web3 and have lived I'm spain a while. Let me know if we can connect once I get there
Yes, $2,500 USD in Colombia is like having $9,000 per month in the U.S. Your money is 4X here, so with $2,500, you can afford to live a pretty good life. It will take time for you to adjust and find great deals on apartments, furniture, etc. At first, you'll probably rent a furnished apartment for a higher price, but the more you're here, the more you'll find better deals. It just takes time.

I appreciate this comment for being detailed and well rounded
Andrew, this was such an informative and enjoyable video; great mix/balance in that regard👏🏼. Gracias parce👊🏼✌🏼
Thank you!
Just an opinion.
ahahahahaha bro xD gtfo there its not safe for you. but cool that u went and tried it out bro!
90% of paisas are/have been friendly to me👍🏼👍🏼✌🏼
We foreigners have a bad stereotype currently due to news coverage of a small minority of people who come here for malicious reasons. I've spoken about this with many people here, mostly taxi/uber drivers, and most have the perception that the majority of foreigners are here for these reasons. Since I speak Spanish they assume I'm one of the "good" foreigners, it's funny and sad lol.
The guy go there and expect THEM to speak to HIM in english in THEIR country and is complaining , go back to your country mate

Whos bright idea was it to make prostitution apart of the constitutional rights 🤔

Wow, Philipe speaks English very well. I wish my online teachers were as fluent 😢, but great information prior to a visit if not necessarily a precursor to moving there. Thanks for the highlights and keeping it real.

Great content Andrew...I was in Medellin recently for 2 weeks. Traveling solo I felt safe. Entering Parque Lleras was interesting where the police checking ID.

So it is not worse in Colombia.
yeah, I've heard it's gotten bad in big cities like LA and Philadelphia.
If you think illegals have it so good here, get yourself a fake ID and pretend to be one.

Too many because they have plenty of customers. There have always been working girls there but years ago they were for the locals and different and then it was discovered…another problem and not intended for you is that there are way too many TH-camrs promoting things there. Give food not money to the homeless or like you said to organizations that help.
I would still venture to say that most of the working women around the city are servicing locals.

Exactly, it’s the devils playground here.
I think most people are mad that prostitution in Medellín is so in your face, out in the open, blatant, and highly visible
There would be less problem if it's confined in close spaces, and more discreet.

Yes, I didn't like it either, but it's the reality of that location.
Sorry man I had to unsubscribe I can't take you pronouncing Medellin wrong
It's ok, you're not my target audience.
Medellin NOT merellin
When is it going to learn how to pronounce Medellin
When are you going to learn that it doesn't matter?

Can a single guy get by on 2500 retirement check per month ?
Yes, $2,500 USD in Colombia is like having $9,000 per month in the U.S. Your money is 4X here, so with $2,500, you can afford to live a pretty good life. It will take time for you to adjust and find great deals on apartments, furniture, etc. At first, you'll probably rent a furnished apartment for a higher price, but the more you're here, the more you'll find better deals. It just takes time.
Stay out of the areas where Americans live your life will be much better in Medellin if you do and leave your ego in America.
