    MODERN BUILDS
    Hi, My name is Mike Montgomery and I'm a MAKER; a designer, builder, and full-time content creator. Accessibility is my focus with Modern Builds, not simply accessibility of designs, but accessibility in materials, information, and projects themselves. I've focused on creating furniture and DIY projects that are simple enough that any beginner maker can accomplish, yet interesting enough that any expert might be inspired. Building and making is becoming less and less of an exclusive hobby and profession. My goal is to reduce that separation even further.

    Looks great, but I think wrapping the slat feature around the side of the peninsula would look even better!

  • @l7le
    @l7le 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +16

    I probably would've done a half wall on the backside of those cabinets. That way, you could run the electrical for the outlet through there instead of the cabinets. I would've made the half wall narrow enough to make the slats flush with the wall to the left. I agree with someone else's comment about wrapping the slats around the peninsula. Maybe even tried to curve the corner slat to mimic the counter slab. Overall, it still looks nice.

    You need an anti-chafing insert for the MC

  • @NornerNlhoutbewerking
    @NornerNlhoutbewerking 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

    In Europe we just use special High-Tack adhesive to mount these to the wall. Saves you filling all the nail holes and getting the stains when applying the finish.

  • @coolbugfacts1234
    @coolbugfacts1234 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +23

    You can't use MC like that, the friction tabs on plastic boxes are for Romex. MC needs to be landed in a knockout, using a clamp connector so that the sheathing can't rub the wires and cause a short or a fire. And if you want to use a plastic box with MC, you need to use bonding bushing since the metal sheathing needs to be bonded to ground, as it would be in a metal box. The best practice is to always use a metal box with MC for this reason.

    • @fd3871
      @fd3871 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

      this ^. to add you are also going to want to install an anti-short bushing - it's a red piece of plastic that prevents the metal sheathing from rubbing the wire over time and causing a short. also, probably going to want to use a GFCI outlet or circuit breaker for this circuit.

    If you cut the hole for the box too wide, you can fill the gaps with drywall mud or the fast drying white drywall patch stuff. Then when you put the cover on, there won't be a dark gap.

    You could have used "Akustikpaneele" (I don't know the English word). I like that they have black in-between. It gives them a more modern vibe and there's no felt you can see and that might become dirty over time. But all in all, great work!

I know this sounds like i am being an a**hole but Electrical needs to be done right or can burn a house down or have nuisance tripping. Also make sure the outlets are gfci protected

      You are being an ass, you didn’t even point out what he could do better. The only problem I saw and they’re not really problems, is the wires that are feeding the peninsula receptacle when fed into the source receptacle box have no insulation biting inside the box. Also weighing adding another outlet into the circuit, but that receptacle shouldn’t be getting heavy use. Perhaps a bit more clamping would’ve been good but I don’t see anything majorly incorrect. Point it out if you do. Encouraging each other and helping each other is much better than trying to tear each other down.

Just hire a professional for crying out loud. "Up to code".... ya, no. Stop showing people how to do things you don't know how to do properly. Thats how inspections are failed and fires start. I'm all for DYI, but don't do stuff you haven't been 100% trained in.
