It`s GoPro color profile, also It has FLAT profile which is more better to use for grading, and WB has native mode. You can set up GoPro as you wish. And low sharpeness setting is preffer.
I felt that the gopro did a much better job, if you see close , in the gopro video you can see all the small waves in the river, you cannot see them in the sj10 pro cam. see that a t minute 6:08
The Footage on Gopro 8 looks more Vivid and sharper and the Audio Quality is much better. Yet, SJ 10 Pro is much more affordable and That a plus point to me 🙂🙂
Daytime, I would pick Sj10 because of color accuracy and GoPro has blownout the highlights quite badly. One might argue that you can use ND filters, but that's throwing an additional cost for an already expensive GoPro. Nighttime shots, they're almost identical, with points for the GoPro for sharpness.

My idea, stabilization may be good at hero 8 but when you cornering with motorcycle etc, picture crop is really really to much and road comes back very late. At this point have use low stabilizer on hero 8 and you can see sj10 and hero 8 will be same
Again the image quality of the sjcam is very blotchy, and lacks the pin sharp details of the gopro that costs over twice as much. No surprise there then. What we want from a cheap action cam is the best image quality and not fancy non important functions like wifi or touch screen. The SJ10 Pro isn't even cheap although I'm sure some pretty poor clones will soon appear on ebay for a quarter of the price. A used Hero 6 or 7 can be had cheaper, and will have the image quality that sets the benchmark for all others to try and follow. Maybe the SJCam has its place in the market and new owners will find the optimum settings to get the very best out of them. This is a very good review, and makes me want to avoid the expensive, cheap sjcam.

Does this camera (SJ10 Pro) support 4k 60fps in car mode? Thats what I'm looking for and is missing in all 4k dashcams. 30fps will allow for a too long exposure and smear too much when it's winter here or similar. The GoPro hero 7 is $229 in the USA. So cheaper. Just shoot raw images and use flat profile. Also the DJI osmo action is often at that price. If the SJ Cam was around $150 it would be tempting. Otherwise GoPro or DJI at that price.

The firmware goes on the sd card (delete everything else) and than when you turn on the camera it should start updating… sometimes it doesn’t work 🤦♂️

The out of the box footage from the Gopro 8 is oversharpened and oversaturated, I always use Protune on my Hero 6 with the flat profile and sharpening set to the lowest level. I use the free Davici software for color grading, sharpening etc. Never thought I would say this, but considering the microphone and stabilisation the SJCAM seems overpriced to me.
The SJCAM is overpriced. Nobody will buy this over a GoPro 7...that you can get around $200 these days. I personally prefer the video quality from the GoPro 7 over the 8
I don't know what sjcam guys are selling at this much price point. Microphone is not good, image stabilization is only good when stand & pan but not good while running or cycling, you can see at 4:30, when the cycle stepped down from the pedestrian path sjcam did show a jerk. This is not a good sign as most of the vloggers would take sjcam out from their list. The only positive part is that the images that are more natural and balanced but again, quality is not up to the mark. Its like shooting with a 20 century smart phone. So the priorities which the buyers look on are missing in sjcam and need to be refined specially at this much price as everyone would love to pay 50 more and get a gopro.

Concerning the video quality: your eagle eyes have clearly seen that there is something that does NOT work with the GoPro Hero8 In fact, Go Pro suffers of a big lack of sharpness, that is artificially balanced with an "escamotage" widely applied in many low-profile cameras and that is called "EDGE ENHANCEMENT". Edge enhancement is an electronic trick that is applied to not so sharp and cheap camera equipment. It consists of an electronic circuitry that increases the edges contrast a lot, increasing the borders size in pixels, too. The video processor detects steps in contrast from a certain level -up and multiplies the difference in gain between the pixels. I'm a video technician and consultant in other fields (professional/ broadcast videocameras) and I noticed it immediately. You recognized that there is something "weird" with GoPro contrast in details, and you're absolutely right! The result is an image that suffers of details in any case, but appears extremely enhanced in contrast. If you enlarge the details you will find that particulars are not clear and "mixed", and there is an overall lack of details, but starting from a certain size of details the small ones are extremely enhanced in contrast. The clips taken with the SJCAM camera are not even comparable, their quality is far, far better, and there is not edge enhancement at all. Unfortunately the cheap SJCAM suffers of other problems clearly explained by you: the lack of the stabilization at high frame rates and the worse stabilization behavior in the high dynamic movements, taking apart the horrible audio, when you used the internal mic. ...my search for an acceptable camera with a low budget continues... :(

GoPro 8 is best GoPro so far , ppl just have lens issue and I don't think that's a major issue bcus it's glass is replaceable, it doesn't have any freezing issue in my gp 8
While gopro looks to have more detail I think it is oversharpened, oversaturated and overcontrasted. Very noticeble with grasses and lots of leaves. Sjcam looks a bit more natural to the eyes. Just my observation.

Personally I find most action camera apps pretty bad (except for the GoPro app on iOS)...so I always take out the sd cards from the cameras...use a card reader and move the footage to the phone or computer that way
I wouldn't buy the SJCam SJ10 Pro over the GoPro Hero 8 as the price difference is not that much while overall the GoPro is still miles ahead as an allrounder. I don't think anyone will buy the SJCam over the GoPro. This SJCam should have been in the $150 range at the most and it might have sold pretty well, but above that there are much better cameras like the DJI Osmo Action, the Insta 360 and of course the King - the GoPro.
I always do a factory reset on each camera before starting these videos...so whatever the factory settings are that's what I use...but yes, it could be changed

I do like SJcams colors a little better, but it fails spectacularly on the brighter highlights. GoPro is too saturated but handles highlights well. At $250.00 the SJcam is just not a good value.
Like you I prefer the video footage more from the SJ10. But, the image stabilization and the on board microphone on the GoPro are better. For just $50 more the GoPro would be better if you intend on doing "action" footage. If you use the SJ 10 on a gimbal with an external microphone, or you only plan on walking while shooting video, then it becomes a viable alternative, and especially since it's at least $50 cheaper.
I like your reviews most...because a lot of reviewers forget about audio...which in my opinion is as important as video quality.

I would go for sjcam if my concern is budget but video wise, it still does do a very nice job
Great comparison, color grading will be much more easier and with better results in the SJ10 pro, external mic will cost around 10€ if need the sound.
the difference in the microphone is notorious. You only notice when you compare but the two are audible.
I like the sjcam because of not crushing the shadows and the less saturation will help in editing

the problem with the sj10 mic is that you had the noise cancelation option on which will make the voice sound drounded out

No one ever removes the filter on the sjcam. I want to see the filter system. That is the only thing the sj8 dont have over the sj10.

I use centre metering. Depending on the resolution you use when you have the stabilization enabled it may crop a bit more of the video

The Gopro has better Image stabilization and microphone. But Considering my budget the SJ does much better at the current cost.
No matter what you compare, Go Pro always shows the best quality.

I wouldn't buy the SJCam SJ10 Pro over the GoPro Hero 8 as the price difference is not that much while overall the GoPro is still miles ahead as an allrounder. I don't think anyone will buy the SJCam over the GoPro. This SJCam should have been in the $150 range at the most and it might have sold pretty well, but above that there are much better cameras like the DJI Osmo Action, the Insta 360 and of course the King - the GoPro.

gopro sharpness set to high is just too much, i always choose middle.
I always do a factory reset on each camera before starting these videos...so whatever the factory settings are that's what I use...but yes, it could be changed

I do like SJcams colors a little better, but it fails spectacularly on the brighter highlights. GoPro is too saturated but handles highlights well. At $250.00 the SJcam is just not a good value.
This camera should have been priced at $150
Like you I prefer the video footage more from the SJ10. But, the image stabilization and the on board microphone on the GoPro are better. For just $50 more the GoPro would be better if you intend on doing "action" footage. If you use the SJ 10 on a gimbal with an external microphone, or you only plan on walking while shooting video, then it becomes a viable alternative, and especially since it's at least $50 cheaper.
I feel that it's priced too high... it should have been around $150 considering that you can find the GoPro 7 for $200 or less these days

Iam not have nice picures like you on SJcam. I dont know why... My settings is on full quality...
