In the wake of Cyclone Lincoln, the roads are closed and the shelves are empty at the local shop. After 2 weeks without any fresh food, it's time to assemble a group of lads for a fishing mission around the islands. Five blokes on two boats headed out for one of the best days fishing you could possibly ask for.

Mate, his eye sight is incredible. I had prescription, polarised sunnies on and could not see the birds working. Mullet is tuned in.

For the spots I just trusted the sounder and looked for interesting looking bottom. That’s the advice I give others all the time… followed my own advice and it worked out perfect!

Good fun session that. See when mullets paternoster busted off at the hook, I got sick of that happening so instead of just putting the loop through the hook tie it as a palomar knot it's heaps stronger as doubles the line strength
Yea mullet was going bareback too… Just used braid. No leader. Big mistake. Haha.

Yea we call them Fingermark in the NT sometimes too. Mostly Goldies or Golden Snapper.
Its really interesting when different cooking methods give surprising results, so are you saying that the Tuna is to mild a taste to be really good done that way or was the marinade and rub over powering the fishes flavour?
Great Video as usual and is this the time of year when fishing run off is a good idea as last year I saw some really good videos over at Kurumba on doing that which seemed to point to it being fun and being productive?

It’s difficult to say mate. The Tuna was just a bit of a surprise. I think we all expected it to be strong in flavour. But it wasn’t.
It was the opposite.
There was nothing wrong with it. But I wouldn’t cook it the same way again. Although maybe some extra time in the smoker might have given it a bit extra.
Hi Mickey. Do you ever fish the Adelaide River when you are in Darwin. My Br9 lives there and I went fishing up the Adelaide around Easter during the run off and did pretty well
I’ve only fished the Adelaide once mate. We were down near mouth though. Got some good jewies.
Hi Mickey. Hope all is good post Cyclone. I read that Barra are closed season 7October to 31 Jan in the Gulf, does that mean you cannot target? What happens if you hook a Barra and it bleeds, do you still need to catch and release? What do you fish for at King Ash Bay during that time? Is the Barra fishing OK in late June or July in King Ash Bay? Any advice is appreciated. Cheers

Sorry Mikey, love your videos but a lot of the locals are getting sick of your over dramatising the life and death struggle ? over this rain event. The guys at the servo were very well stocked with enough food to last for a month even if the fresh veges and milk ect was scarce. Please leave the main stream media to all the drama queen shit. Hope you take this comment on board for the future.
There was a cyclone and some rain. The highways got cut off. We ran out of fresh food. So we went fishing.
These are all facts.
This is all I claimed to have happened. I tried to make an entertaining episode from it.
Obviously no one starved. Everyone has plenty of dry goods and deep freezers. And the servo does a great job and still had plenty of dry and frozen stuff.
If you listen to the ABC news interview I did I explained all this in detail that we had plenty of food stored and everyone is fine.

How much of the episode was aimed at there being no food, nothing !!!! You are like a little rattlesnake curled up in the grass beside a footpath just waiting to strike. If your life is so bad and boring you should try and do something about fixing it, not just waiting to attack somebody that’s obviously enjoying their life. Right now I am at the Newell Beach Caravan Park just north of Cairns and just waiting for the wet season to back off so I can come to King Ash Bay with my wife and caravan. We are doing this because Mikey has made King Ash Bay a must see destination for us. I am 58yrs old and love to spend my money in local communities where I know it’s needed. Do you have any idea how many other people just like me that plan to travel and spend their money in King Ash Bay because of what Mikey does on TH-cam with Ash and the Mad Mullet ??? The shop and service station you talk about will do really well in the dry season because Mikey is driving a whole heap of customers into their driveway with every episode, grow up mate.

I could write a book on the answer to this mate... If fishing is your number 1 prioritoy, then probably April. But every time of year is good at King Ash Bay for different reasons.
