- Cutting a massive oak tree trunk into large rounds that will be then cut into firewood. The logs made are so large that they cannot be moved easily or at all in some cases. Using a chainsaw, sledge hammer and wedges I cut it into pieces.
This insanely large log has been in the yard for about a year now and it’s finally time for it to go away.
I enjoyed watching a young whippersnapper like you! Tackling a big log. Working it! I do the same thing all the time. I'm 60 years old.
Nice work! That’s a job cutting up a big tree like that. Will make lots of firewood! Keep us updated!
That gnarly wood is going to be some great heating fuel. Not to many guys would even attempt this massive cutting. Nice job👍
i love cuttin that big wood like that most people wood be scated of it or not have a saw big enuf to cut it or to dam lazy to cut it up
As my grandfather would say....
Hard work is it's own reward.....
My hats off to you. I'd just push that mess off a hillside, dust off my hands, and say good riddance. The effort required for cutting and splitting that is reminiscent of the huge gnarly things my father would acquire when I was the wood splitter. Lots of sledge hammer and wedge work. I found it was best done at Temps near 0 because of the way the wood got brittle then.
That saw looks like it did a very good job. That's a lot of work, but it's right there in your yard and will be great firewood once it's all split and dried.
Best video, we appreciate this video!
I hate messing with logs like this… struggle all the way
I tend to shy away from the stump end or very forked parts of any tree . It's hard to cut , hard to split , blunts the chain quicker , you tend to need a bigger saw and is just much harder work but if you need it gone then you have to cut it up . Good work and that saw is cutting quite well although at the end the chain was getting blunt . To be expected on that huge lump . Just a small tip . When pulling on the dogs make sure your pulling straight inline vertically on the saws handle , not to one side and the cut stays straighter . Even though the dogs teeth are engaged they can still skew a bit .
Now u need an Eastonmade 🤘🏽
Thatvwas hard work. Good job
I salute you. It takes a Lotsa courage to tackle something like that. I hope you have a bigger axe to split it with.
Got Dynamite? That what i would used! Drill holes pack it and set it off
That looks like a whole lotta work
how do you find the saw? looks like you were fighting it at some points.
did a fine job
Love the sound of your truck V8 I guess
Is that a farmertec G660? I love mine, couldn't justify spending 2200 on a stihl ms881 so I bought the G888 Holzfforma for a job I had with similar size wood and was very impressed.
I just cut up a hard maple that had fallen on them couples house one branch broke off The branch measured 4 ft across The base of the tree was 6 and 1/2 ft across standing at the highest point without that branch still was 110 ft tall they asked me to take it down and cut it up it took me a week of straight work to cut it down and cut it all up The saw that I was using was a steel 066 a Husqvarna 95 XP with a big bore kit with 105cc and a 3120 with a 6-ft bar with a big bore kit in it pushing 130cc then the maneuvers rounds around I used a metal hook that I would pound in to stand them up on edge and I took a 372 and ripped down to split them in half turn them on the flat side and ripped him again then ended up having to rip them again into eights to build a load them onto the truck I got my winter supply of wood for this winter and probably for next winter and ended up getting over four cord of wood out of that tree

What saw did you use and how big was the bar? Thanks.
Enjoy your youth.

How's that Chinese chainsaw working for you?
So where's the firewood??
This is the the first stage of processing a downed tree, once you cut your rounds, you split them into burnable pieces with a splitter or maul
Was the tree a silver maple?
Not a maple I was told it was a pin oak but plant identification app says it’s a black oak.
good job! Great! Wish all the best to you! Let's chat together
