Excellent my friend! This full game was available on YT until about 2yrs ago! The Lakers turned the ball over way too much, almost doubling Detroit in this game, with Magic having 9 turnovers by himself. Lakers lost later that February without Magic as well, in an excellent game in LA which the Lakers had the lead late but, Detroit made a late run, scoring most of the final points in the last minute or two! Still wish I could watch these two replay the '89 finals with a full roster. Lakers were playing some of their best basketball, if not THE best, in the 80's during their 11-0 run to the '89 finals. The 9-day layoff was their death knell!
this was one of the few regular season games CBS aired in prime time, and given how earlier in the decade they were airing finals games on late night tape delay shows how far Bird, Magic, Jordan and company had improved things
Due to Magic and Byron Scott's injuries, we were really robbed of seeing another potential classic NBA finals between 89 Lakers and 89 Pistons. The Lakers had swept through the playoffs and were scorching hot heading into the finals, and Detroit of course had the best record in the league and pretty much cruised to the finals as well, only losing 2 games to the young MJ led Bulls. I still think the Pistons would have won even with a healthy Magic and Byron, but I would argue that BOTH teams were playing at an even higher level then they were the year before in that classic 7 game series.
@@andresdelportillo9917 Scott was a “non-factor” averaging 20ppg on almost 50% from the field and nearly 40% from 3? Magic was never known as a defensive juggernaut, especially against smaller quicker guards. But he was also the biggest mismatch at the point guard position in the league and was league MVP that season and was playing like nothing less than that leading the Lakers to a sweep through the Western Conference. I love how you just literally ignore that part of it 😂
@@mongoslade277 Pistons in at least 6 if Magic and Scott stay healthy. Again, they swept through the West and was playing arguably at an even higher level then they were a year ago when they beat this same Pistons team in 7, even though the Pistons were still the slightly better team.
@@chrisuncleahmad666 That game of all of them, was the one that pissed me off the most. Shut out in OT. At that point, it just felt like a fucking hex. But once we got them on Super Bowl Sunday, it felt like we had figured them out. I was looking forward to the trilogy...then we ran in to Kevin Johnson and Jeff Hornacek
😂😂 I remember when Zeke said that when I was young I was like yeah they will be back in the finals you just knew it when he said pat Riley told him you don't understand how much luck is involved in winning a title and he said that pissed him off more .
Thanksgiving Weekend 1988…CBS made a great decision to kick off their 16th season that early, with that rematch of the previous season’s Finals!
Earlier that day, CBS also had a big college football game (#8 Arkansas at #3 Miami)
@@chrisuncleahmad666 That too…CBS had some great weekends during the 80s, as NBC did during the 90s
36 years later and Hubie Brown is still with us
I hope he's feeling ok, though, he was here somewhere.
Protect Hubie at all cost.
@@kik5323 Get well soon, Hubie!!🙏

“Last season’s finale was a drama in 7 acts. It ended to a standing ovation.”
Thanks for the upload I’ve been waiting on this one….
👍
pistons were 6-0 against the lakers in 1988-89 season they won both regular season games and then swept them in the finals
Thanks to the Pistons 94 feet defense
a finals rematch and a finals preview
This is why I haven’t watched basketball since the 2014 Spurs run. So many good players and good games.

If Magic & Byron Scott were healthy, they probably take a game. Pistons in 5

I need to watch this full game again as from what I recall the game wasn’t close, but the score made it seem like it. Very big optical illusion.
The start of the Pistons going a perfect 6-0 against the Lakers in 88-89.
7-0 if you want to include their December 1989 matchup
