Game is hella physical , the Knicks big men were legit outside of Ewing a lot of muscle out there .. I see a lot of skill out there casuals only think that the new nba is way more skilled than the 90’s and after watching this game and a few others that narrative is false .
Notice how you rarely saw MJ driving into the paint... These youngins know nothing about Ewing Oakley and Mason! 3 beasts Jordan had to contend with every year
The Knicks were the top team in the East that year and started this series winning the first two games. Riley took full advantage of the defensive rules in place at the time and the games were intensely physical. A great series.
Game 3 of this series was my favorite. They beat the Knicks by 20 in that game with Jordan shooting like crap but making up for it with his defense, passing and free throw shooting. And the Bulls had a couple of face to face situations. Pip vs Starks, then Jordan vs Starks. But Game 3 was the game I knew the Bulls would win this series.
Jordan shot like crap (40%) for that entire series. His shooting lines by game: Game 1 - 10 for 27 Game 2 - 12 for 32 Game 3 - 3 for 18 Game 4 - 18 for 30 (his one good shooting game) Game 5 - 11 for 24 (his one ok shooting game) Game 6 - 8 for 24 This is the part of the Jordan lore everyone likes to forget. MJ chucked up the ball a LOT to get his points, but he was usually bailed out by the refs often enough to save his scoring efficiency by shooting far more FTs than anyone else.
@@JakeKoenig well he was fouled a lot going to the basket. What? Are the refs not supposed to call the fouls? Hell I'd say they even missed some. But yeah it was definitely a rough shooting series for Jordan which I'd attribute to the Knicks defense.
@@JakeKoenig Imagine if Lebron shot like that in a Series (omg bailed out by Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, and BJ Armstong!!!) Shooting 3 for 18 after being down 2-0 is anything but clutch...MJ did make up for it though against the Suns averaging 41 ppg. But that was a much softer team than the Knicks.
This is exactly HOW you get beat. The Knicks really thought they were going to win that year, they just didn't know HOW to win, they knew HOW to lose and beat themselves but they kept the winners on the bench like Mason, Rolando Blakman, and got rid of key guys like Mark Jackson and Gerald Wilkins along with Xavier McDaniel -- keep that team together they easily beat the Bulls in '93 .... You see Chicago didn't just get rid of guys, they kept building after 1988, 1989, and 1990 but even into '93 you see Darrell Walker, Trent Tucker, and had key contributions from Stacey King, even though they lost Cliff Levingston and upon even Jordan retiring, you see Jerry Krause picked up Pete Myers, Luc Longley, Steve Kerr and then they had Ron Harper, so you have to build around your core and Chicago did that well, even with having Jordan but what did the Knicks do when they finally had a team with Ewing? No Mark Jackson, Gerald Wilkins, Xavier McDaniel ... just those 3 guys at that time would make any team a championship contender. Something else. Pippen came up big in games 5-6 and played really solid in game 3 holding things down well and just the 1992-93 Bulls were the most settled and mature among the first 3 title teams.
If you didn't come away from this video realizing how important Pippen was to those Bulls championships, then you don't understand basketball. Watch him on defense. Watch him off the ball. Watch how often he's the one bringing the ball up the court setting up the offense or leading a fast break. Watch how often he creates easy scoring opportunities. The Bulls get ZERO titles without Pippen. Zero.
That's why it's so annoying when you hear bullshit like Lebron got bailed out by Ray Allen, Kyrie (who hasn't won shit without Lebron btw), etc. I grew up a Bulls' fan so I'm no hater but the MJ fans get so damn defensive with Lebron and won't acknowledge how much help he had. I mean he shot 3 for 18 in a game 3 down 2-0. Imaging the grief Lebron would get for that kind of performance.
Not to mention that Pippen took these same Knicks to a game 7 the following year without Jordan and very easily could have won were it not for a bad call by Hugh Hollins in game 5.
This brought me back to childhood, I remember my friend being a die hard Knicks fan was rubbing the 2-0 lead… I told him “watch how Chicago will come back & beat you guys! 😝
MJ was very tired you can tell at Jumpball at the beginning of the game. Starks & The Knicks made MJ Mentally Drained and Tired,..MJ knew that Chicago bench & The Team was getting too old and weary except for Paxson & Scott Williams

Notice how you rarely saw MJ driving into the paint... These youngins know nothing about Ewing Oakley and Mason! 3 beasts Jordan had to contend with every year
Those were wars. Oh the memories.
The Knicks were the top team in the East that year and started this series winning the first two games. Riley took full advantage of the defensive rules in place at the time and the games were intensely physical. A great series.
Pipen and MJ - perfect defense
These guys were some ballers!!!
Scottie was on fire, Mike had a near triple Double, Pax, BJ and Tucker were on fire, a total team domination.
@@kik5323 most definitely
Jordan shot like crap (40%) for that entire series. His shooting lines by game:
Game 1 - 10 for 27
Game 2 - 12 for 32
Game 3 - 3 for 18
Game 4 - 18 for 30 (his one good shooting game)
Game 5 - 11 for 24 (his one ok shooting game)
Game 6 - 8 for 24
This is the part of the Jordan lore everyone likes to forget.
Such an exciting time in the NBA. MJ was a beast. He had help . Let’s not forget the supporting cast.
I miss that iconic theme. Only theme suitable for the NBA. Used to love watching the Knicks on NBA on NBC
i'm more impressed by MJ defensive efforts, dude had like 8 blocks 5 steals. And Pippen took over in the 4th.
This was REAL basketball 🏀
Ahhhh these were the days.
I miss 90s NBA, when it was all team play, not ISOs and stepback 3s and the mid-range was respected.
This is basketball!
This was a great game I remember watching this good times I'm glad to have had a lot. Hard times don't last forever!
Versatilitian Pip put the final nail in the coffin, & sent Knicks to vacation for the summer & Bulls on to Phoenix for the 3peat feat 24:39
I loved how the Bulls court always looked like it needed to be waxed. A nice dirty matte finish.
ALL the complainers in todays nba wouldn't stand 1 game in this type of nba basketball, they'd be wanting calls every second on the floor
New York played hard but, Chicago was the best. Jordan good defense and some great passing.
