I've come to appreciate Patrick Ewing more and more since his heyday in the 90s. He was a perennial all-star but still overshadowed to some degree by Olajuwon at first and then later by Shaq but Patrick was such a phenomenally-skilled center. He's an all-time great player, IMO.
Probably the last season with the great 4 centers of 90's. After this year, Shaq was seemingly the guy above everyone else, as other 3 centers got older and coming out of their primes.
I luved when Orlando and NY matched up from the 94-96 era. It's a shame they neva met from 94-96 in the playoffs. 95 shoulda been the year in the ECF that year
It's still mindboggling that Shaq and Patrick Ewing never faced off against each other in the playoffs. 1995 was the closest chance that they got but the Knicks just HAD to choke against Indiana....
The Magic and Knicks had near altercations throughout the 90s. In 93, when we (Orlando) missed the playoffs because of a tiebreaker that went to Indiana, Guess who the 8-seed Pacers played? The 1-seed Knicks. (The Headbutt game happened this year) In 94, after the Pacers upset the Magic, when we had the Home court advantage, who did they go on to play? The Knicks (25 in the 4th for Reggie and the Choke at Spike this year) In 95 was the 8 points in 8.9 seconds. And yet, if Ewing hits the layup in game 7, it would've been Magic v Knicks for the nba finals. And we won't even count 96 cause even though NY took a game, no one was beating the bulls. So a conference finals of NY v Orlando was out of the picture. But 3 different scenarios where nba History could've been different. I would've love to see at least one Shaq vs. Ewing in the playoffs
Contrary to appearances, Patrick Ewing, a player gifted with small hands, has developed a very wide range of versatile moves, making him a great NBA center.
@@truthiscensored You have it backwards. Shaq talks about himself being limited, that he only had 3 moves. He brings up Pat as having “more stuff on the block.”Ewing had everything Olajuwon had, dozens of moves on the blocks, ability to read the defense and chain them together, and the ability to finish with either hand. Heck, the dunk vs Luc Longley of Chicago shown in the NBC intro was with his left hand! Shaq never really figured Patrick out either- while an aging Ewing had trouble containing him in the late 90s, he easily scored 30+ points on Shaq all the way into his late 30s.
Don’t know what these “Business man” was thinking. Letting Shaq go and kept Penny. They should’ve keep both of them. It’s not like they don’t have the salary. They can pay Penny and Shaq both 100 Mill
I’m not watching this man this is sad because NY Knicks had worked so hard 92-95 beaten by jordan. By this time in 1996 they was beaten up. New young team of penny and shaq were taking over. From buffalo ny my dad was tall and a Pat Ewing fan. I was a kid and shaq was god but I wanted shaq to take it easy on pat Ewing every time.
A well past his prime Ewing playing a prime O’Neal to a standstill. It still amazes me people think O’Neal was better than Ewing. If a shot Ewing could do this, imagine what a 1989 or 90 version would have done lol
Ewing at that stage still had the physicality to deal with 1996 Shaq. The Shaq from 2000 or so would have overpowered prime Ewing like he overpowered most players. Ewing can only score so many jumpers, when it comes down low to Shaq he's just going to bulldoze Ewing out of the way and score. Not a knock on Ewing, that's just what Shaq did to most people.
@@R.POliver Shaq always got neutralized by versatile Cs that had PF moves. They didn't just shoot jumpers they could take the ball to the basket from out there too, besides Cs that had an outside shot meant he was less effective as a team defender inside. Most of the bigs he "dominated" didn't have the offense run through them like that in the first place, when he has to guard someone that also gets a lot of touches obviously that cancels him out on offense.
@@R.POliver People seem to forget that standard PFs weren't good matchups for him so it's no surprise Cs that could also play the PF position had similar results.
The presentation by NBC was pure class. You felt like you were truly watching professional basketball.
80 CBS better
So much better than just watching both teams chuck up forty 3-pointers.
Thank you for including the NBA on NBC intros it's the cherry on top for these videos of games from the golden era of the NBA.
👍
When basketball game was so good to watching...

Hearing all three commentators (Albert, Guokas and Bill Walton (RIP))- was something else on NBC.
Marv was the best, Walton was hilarious and I really liked Guokas, wasn't annoying and had great basketball knowledge and a good sense of humor.
Ewing and Shaq would frequently have big scoring games vs each other.
Probably the last season with the great 4 centers of 90's. After this year, Shaq was seemingly the guy above everyone else, as other 3 centers got older and coming out of their primes.
Great highlights. And what a great era.

You don't see centers battling like this anymore
Just the intro song alone is good enough for me…wow! We had the best time growing up.
At this point, Ewing was past his prime. His knees were failing him. Still, he gave it his all each and every game.
Several NBA Jam legends in this video
This was fun to watch live
Two big men- real hoops
real basketball
The real NBA I miss NBA on NBC I miss NBA on NBC the best now I hate the NBA today it sucks today
Knicks first year with the new away unis that had the black stripes on the sides.
NBA was Fantastic
The nerve of these guys to not do dribble hand offs and shoot 3's. They should be a shamed of themselves lol
Patrick Ewing the most underrated center to ever play the game! 💪
It's still mindboggling that Shaq and Patrick Ewing never faced off against each other in the playoffs. 1995 was the closest chance that they got but the Knicks just HAD to choke against Indiana....
And maybe they do if Shaq never left Orlando though?
@@freakyfornash the Knicks and the Magic never ever met in the NBA playoffs during the Jordan era both 1st and 2nd
@@RuruLG0419 Yeah I know. A 1995 Conference Finals matchup between the two teams would have been epic, which came oh so close to happening, if only.
Yea that is weird.
It’s also kinda weird that Reggie and Jordan only met up once…but it was a classic series.
Hakeem owned Shaq
Another great one, thank you!
👍
Another outstanding battle at center, but the O-Rena was so hard to win at for a good two year stretch for most opponents. Nice upload!
👍
They both wa s ahead of they time
NBC aired quite a few Magic vs Knicks games and then aired multiple Lakers Knicks games after Shaq went to LA
the new NBA now has turned grown men into cupcakes and thats how adam silver wants it

He only had a couple of moves, which is why Shaq figured him out. Shaq talk about Ewing's limited moves alot on shows

Pat And Shaq Franchise Changing Big Men 1#Picks
"they lead the Eastern conference" record of 53-18 then shows them under the bulls with a 62-8 record lol man how good that bulls team was that year.
72-10

Bigs today are a joke …
Yeah u got that damn right😅
It was a good battle, but I think Ewing outplayed Shaq. Shaq couldn't shoot over Ewing, and Ewing was able to shoot over Shaq.
More KNICKS VS MAGIC
95-96 season games
Ewing against his future team
Bad knees ewing 😂
These players would get smoked and exposed in todays nba era
So weird seeing the 99 jersey in 96
Шак на удивление хорошо пасовал из сдвоенной защиты
Ewing was a big mummy couldn't even get NY a title kept getting beat
Shaq was too arrogant
奧尼爾大戰大猩猩
Yea 96 pat was finished work couldn't do nothin wit shaq to much force ewing best years was early 90s
