Sweetest, goofiest dog I've ever had. Mine developed epilepsy at 8 years old, and had to be put down at 10 after a terrible seizure that he never came back from.
I agree, they are wonderful dogs. My swissy was extremely smart, strong, gret with everyone and even could gently played with my sisters Pug. He lived up to 12 years when he got cancer and passed. I was devastated by his loss. Even my animal hating neighbor loved him.
We're on our second ridicules beast. They are almost too smart. They have perfected the art of selective hearing. Bo has the "Zoomies" nightly around 7:30 which at 130lbs and a mouthful of squeaky toy, sounds like a herd of elephants. Unfortunately, he is one of the few with Epilepsy. Started at 4 years, He'll be 5 in March. It took a while, but the drugs have greatly reduced the frequency of episodes.
Very shocked to see our dog in this video( the dog playing with the puppy in our garden with the artificial grass) very nice and professional video though. Love everything of this breed, love our dog, ned Milan
I don't have a Swissy but my guy I belive is a mix of their shorter cousin, the sennenhund. Not sure if the temperament is the exact same but definitely a big cuddle bug and protective of the family
Swissies are Sennenhunds, in fact the original Sennunhund. Their Swiss name in German is “Grosser Schweizer Sennenhund” or in French “Grand Bouvier Suisse”. Berner Sennenhund, Appenzeller Sennenhund and Entlebucher Sennenhund are all descended from Swissies.
9-10 years is fairly common. My last (a red) lived to be 12+, but definitely slowed down considerably after 11 yrs, and spent most of the last year sleeping and enjoying doggy retirement.
My swissy is Still alive at 13, healthy.. She plays and moves around OK. Definitely way slower than before, lost some strength in the rear legs so stairs can be somewhat tough.. Luckily our new house barely has stairs and we block the stairs so she doesn't try and go up and down during the day
5 month here, Watches tv. People can get epilepsy from 3d. Its a thing folks! Some peeps cant feed into their brains 3d. Its ok, Love and understand, its a thing
Hey what happened? Saw this footage before.. I wish new video's would come up as the footage u use is old. This breed is fantastic and I dont know why about all footage used by anyone posting is old.
Lost my pup after 9 years, almost 10 today. I'll miss her, she was the best dog ever.
I love when this channel shows a dog I’ve never seen before
Met 2 GS dogs at a dog daycare I worked at and have loved them ever since. Two of the sweetest, prettiest dogs ive known.

Thank you for caring for him through his condition. So many owners simply give up.

Do Broholmer and Real Landseer next please! And Tornjak and Mastador!
Great video. Very informative and interesting. Thank you.

Is this a re-release?
Mollasor... Interesting.
I wonder what ancestor brought in the epilepsy. I can't remember oh, did you mention the type of bite? Scissor / undershot
Procuro um exemplar desse a anos no Brasil e não encontro... O Brasil que difícil.

You may be thinking of the Bernese Mountain Dog. They are less healthy and have shorter life spans than the Greater Swiss

I don't know but to me this seems a little lacking in respect 😕
@@tanegurnick5071 I wish it was an interview of owner and/or breeder of the GSMD too
The Swiss have a special meaning for the phrase "all purpose farm dog" Hint: Christmas dinner. ☹
What? They eat dogs for Christmas? LOL
