    Yup, 1964 with the VIN (from the HOC website) for the win: 4 for 1964 model year, G for Chicago, IL assembly, 65 for Galaxie 500 two door convertible, Z for 390 V8 with four barrel, and the rest is the production sequence. The Chicago, IL plant still operates today and assembles vehicles such as the Explorer Police Interceptor.
    We got the tag, we can brag: 76A for Galaxie 500 two door convertible, F for Guardsman Blue exterior paint, 72 for Blue interior trim, 21A for Thursday January 21, 1964 production, 74 for Seattle, WA sales district, 1 for 3.00:1 rear axle ratio, non-locking and 4 for Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission.

      Cool, I was glad to see an R for the assembly plant of my 64 Ranchero, San Jose CA! Hence a solid rust-free car, the rest being immaterial since different engine and transmission now, and lots of other stuff in it, ironically mostly from a Mustang of that era, like dash, the motor, a 66 six, 200, and, "wild card", a 5-speed from a late nineties 'stang.!! LOL

    My grandfather had one of these and when it was totaled back in 1985 I saved one of the headlight trim rings. I still have it to this day down in the garage.

    There was a '63 Ford of this same model with the same color scheme. It had a 4-speed with the 390/3-2 bbl, 340 hp motor. Only 1 of those with that motor I've ever seen.

      Yes, my 67 Mercury Cyclone GT had that engine but a C6 automatic. Nice car but had to give it up to parents to sell when I too got that "special greeting and invitation" from LBJ at the time!! Good news is I now have that car again, not the same one, but one of its "brothers"!! LOL ;D

    When I was 2 years old in 63, my dad bought a new 63 ford galaxy 500xl convertible. 427 side oiler, 4 speed. He only kept it for a year, so I don't remember it, except in pictures.

    Beautiful car and mildly customized with an extra HP engine. Noticed for a high end car, no padded dash and the driver's side sunvisor missing. Like the extra gauges lower center on dash. Sure would like it in my garage....lol'

      @ronschlorff7089 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, my 64 Fairlane does not have a padded dash either. Nice since it does not crack or rot out like all the cars of this time did if they had them. I had a padded dash in my 67 Cyclone that needed to be restored and replaced, it was crazy expensive to do, and a real bitch to take out and re-install!! LOL ;D

    Being a high school kid growing up in the "muscle car era" I was interested in three things at the time, girls, girls and girls. Just kidding, sort of. Actually, I was those, plus rockets to the moon, and muscle cars. Nice to see this highlighted by Steve since he is the "guru" for all cars and knows them better than those great men who designed and built them, back in the hay day of American cars. The 50's and 60's produced some nice automobile designs like this one here, then in the 70's things started to go to hell and imports became prevalent, we had lousy national leaders, and things fell off as far as enthusiasm goes for the car culture. And the situation is now what it is today, need I say more!! But the good news is we still have many of the classics today, restored to their former glory, despite the war against fossil fuel vehicles, they will last for a long time to come, the car culture being too strong and its adherents and supporting economy too important; at least for any "leadership" to understand we have in the future with an actual brain in their skull, unlike today. Good news I guess is he never gets a "brain freeze"; from all the ice cream he eats so fast!! LOL ;D

    My cousin found a 63 Galaxie convertible for $1K in 1985. Real magnesium rims and a 289 under the hood.
    The memories of driving with the top down,(because it was shot) in the middle of a blizzard still makes me laugh.
    He had no mechanical sympathy for his cars. The Galaxie tossed a rod and got abandoned on a main highway one night.

    Where is the driver's side sun visor?

    • @ronschlorff7089
      @ronschlorff7089 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, those a fiddly things, one of many for these cars in those days, especially now after so long, but easy to fix. I have a visor on the driver's side in my 64 Ford Fairlane 500, but it keeps dropping down and I have to keep pushing it up. Too lazy to fix it, but it is annoying, that and my turn signal does not cancel; so, I look like an old fart with it on all the time, ...which I am of course. LOL ;D

    My concern is how many r's does it turn at highway speed? I'm all about mileage on the interstate.
    I was shocked and dismayed at the absence of any kind of protection for those speakers. Makes me wonder about the rest of the car.

    Why can’t people leave these cars completely stock??? This car would have been worth a lot more if it had the original engine and transmission in it. Even under the hood Ford never painted it the same color as the car that was a Mopar thing… These people are erasing our history… I bought one of these cars for my very first car at 15 years old and mine had the 390ci/375hp engine with an automatic transmission. It was the 500 XL convertible too…
