You keep comparing it to a phone that's considerably more expensive instead of something that's closer to it's price range. And you gave the Samsung another unfair advantage by testing it with the external fan and not using it with the phone it's actually for ? Couldn't you test it on both of the phones to keep it fair ? You had it out for this phone from the beginning not a great review.
The OnePlus 12 results shown in the video is right in it's pricing ballpark and it performed better than the Samsung in some results before a fan was strapped on. Mind you they showed results with the fan for each phone as I understand it.
It's (it is) hard to take you seriously when you write sentences like "something that's closer [to it] is price range." You compare devices against what is considered the best in class to get a holistic view on where it ranks in the overall product category. Otherwise, you'd only have the viewpoint of how this device does compared to other $800 phones.
Which is the right thing to do to see how it stacks up against the same price class for value. Would you for cpus compare a 6 core Ryzen with a 16 core and consider it lousy and poor value? Different price points and use cases.
I think he should have actually used it to play real games like Zelda tears of the kingdom or paper Mario the thaosand year door instead of using the phone to play bad games like cod mobile
Redmagic 9s Pro - 700$ Samsung S24 Ultra - 1299$ Redmagic gives you Solid Constant Performance Samsung may compromise a bit when it gets hot Redmagic Doesn't need an extra cooling for most scenerios Samsung definitely needs one at some point which the phone being that costly. Redmagic you need to may reduce your expectations about Camera Samsung gives good camera but it's 10x optical zoom that's not much... Redmagic gives you a benchmark score of 2.3M Samsung gives you a score of 1.9M - 2M Considering the cost gap it's 600$ difference and the thing you may lose is Camera, kinda okay Ui And OS.. then the bettery is definitely satisfying enough, i mean you can play games about 8-10hrs (Nobody would play that long for straight, and the battery charges under 45 minutes, manageable charging)

I have been summoned and I'm now here to tell people I absolutely hate holes and notches for the sake of a front facing camera I've used maybe once. It's like a third of the reason my daily driver phone is a Sony Xperia, because it truns out you can have a thin bezel and get front facing stereo speakers and a front cam in case you absolutely must videoconference from your phone without having to do expensive nonsense to make your screen look worse. So yeah, I would have taken bezels above a under screen cam, so note for the future there, but that is my second choice over the other nonsense. The other two reasons are a 3.5mm jack and expandable storage, so the RedMagic is absolutely a contender here.
To be fair, the selfie camera quality looks the same as one the Samsung Fold 6 which also has an under screen camera. For me the only big minus on this phone is the software support.
True but I would love android with FaceID which would require a notch or a pill, but for a seamless and fast unlocking? Why the hell not? Or just make a phone with big top bottom bezels and front firing stereo speakers like HTC One M8

funny thing is if you also put the cooler on the redmagic you'd prob get even better performance i'd assume. whole point of a gaming phone is to game on them for long period of time without as much throttling, ontop of the fact they got charging separation too so you can actual game with it plugged in without it using the battery which should help its battery lifecycle and prob performance too. (idk why other phones still don't do this) i'd 100% buy one, not only because it's cheaper for flagship specs but i do a ton of gaming on my phone so getting the most out of it would be a pretty big +.
Other company afraid to more expenses 😂😂/ they afraid of that happen there new phone no one buy Bc people Already got better battry and performance I also buy new phone only bc battry problem and charging problem
And that's why people who aren't playing Mobile games regularly shouldn't review Gaming phones Because they don't know why Redmagic or Rogs are better than normal flagships For once the touch sampling rate is way better on gaming phones And the ability to retain fps in intense situations during the gaming session is so much better For example: the s24 ultra drop frames alot while playing codm Ranked lobbies (no I'm not talking about elite or master lobbies or your pubs any phone can run fine while playing low ranked matches or pubs I'm talking Legendary ranked and scrims) the fps some times drop to 90 which messes up sensitivity increases motion blur and touch sampling as well not to mention it gets extremely hot while redmagic retains fps like you can get 115-120 easily yes it gets hot but only like 40-41°C max So yes it is worth it for People to buy these gaming phones if they want to play at the highest ranks comfortably
I bought the phone and I don't even play competitive games I just play PC games like Minecraft java edition and switch games like Zelda tears of the kingdom the game runs flawlessly because of the fan
Touch sampling rate is 240hz on S24U, that's faster than you can move your fingers. You are NOT reacting and changing directions in less than 4ms. Also, FPS does not affect touch sampling or sensitivity. And ranked lobbies are running the same game code as a normal lobby, same stuff happens, it's just more competitive. However thermals are an issue, but active coolers are cheap, as he demonstrated it performs the same when you attach a fan. Like, yeah, gaming phones can run games faster, but at significant costs, whereas a normal flagship can do the same with a cooler and have all other benefits. There's just not a market for it anymore like there was 5 years ago.
Bruh you missed the entire point of a gaming phone.. it's not as much about the hardware/performance these days, but rather about gaming specific features - things like bypass charging , additional charging ports (so your cable can be routed around your hands), macro creation and execution (to grind in games), video recording and sharing features, etc etc... It's not just about FPS because as you point out, regular phones can do that - what they can't do is all the other stuff. Oh, and have you tried playing a mobile game in the summer - outside - on a non-gaming phone? I have.. it doesn't end well. On a gaming phone, the base level cooling is better, plus they have additional active cooling - you can actually play the games. Extended gaming sessions have no problems on gaming phones either.
Bro im looking to buy a gaming phone, i have been looking at red magic 9 pro and i know i wont regret buying it, obviously anything is better than what i have right now. Yeah. I'm not against the idea of giving devices actual personalities but, seriously, she seems like she'd get annoying after 10 minutes. @@jasonblalock4429 Yeeaahh... It's absolutely a gimmick, but I'm sure its really easy to mute and turn off. It's pretty amusing for a little bit though!
Might be controversial, but sometimes you need these 'Gaming' phones to push the envelope that will then in a few years will become the standard, if not for these phones, we'd likely not get the 120hz displays, or the better controller support, or better cooling, maybe even more RAM and storage options. So I say let these smaller players continue to push the industry so in a few years we'll get better features as standard.
Redmagic is capitalizing on the huge market of “mobile phone” gamers, there are actually a lot of dedicated phone gamers out there. This phone is obviously not meant for regular phone users, thats why redmagic decided to focus on performance rather than an all rounder phone to keep their price lower than other flagship phones. As a mobile gamer myself, i used to have a dedicated android gaming phone that i leave in my room and only use for gaming and saving important files and a daily driver iphone. A lot of gamers use this phone the same way as i do, some do use it as a daily driver phone since not everyone has money to spend on multiple devices. They probably only support 2 years plus to give those few people who are wealthy a reason to upgrade their gaming phone every other year to make up for their smaller market share for phones IMO, though that doesnt justify only giving consumers only 1 major os update. I love redmagic’s innovations when it comes to touch sampling rate which actually feels very responsive to the point where a very small movement from your finger would shake your aim if you max it. They were the first to release a phone with 165hz display though not many games can utilize that much frames, but as more phones adapt a higher refresh rate, then game devs would be more likely build games that can utilize that much frames. These types of company are usually the reason why bigger companies are obligated to improve their display not only on the resolution but also on refresh rate and touch sampling rate.
@zeexii5660 THIS is how I use my Redmagic 9 Pro. I bought it specifically to stay connected to a Gamesir G8 controller 24/7 and use it as a multimedia consuming/smart home hub/and featured gaming device, nothing more, nothing less. There is no social media BS or constant notifications to worry about getting in the way. I stream my Twitch through it flawlessly. It basically just has a permanent spot on my nightstand/coffee table to control virtually everything in my home AND game/stream whatever I like. If I want to take it out and about (don't do it often unless I know I'm going to have free time while I am), I'll just hotspot my Z Flip 5 to it and do whatever I like. You have to think broader than "durr it's just a gaming phone). Naah. The good thing about using the device this way is it'll last for quite a few years. I don't need no updates or patches, the thing doesn't have any of my personal details on it or anything. If there's purchases that I want to make, just whip out my real phone, buy, and keep it movin. This wasn't a "real review" instead of it being a "why get this over that". And tbf, my opinion is the exact opposite of Austin's... Why would you buy a lesser, dedicated Android gaming handle over one of these and mold it to what you want/need over time?
120Hz displays on phones preceded the GaMiNg phones by about 2 years. By "better controller support" do you mean... buttons? GaMiNg phones don't generally have more storage, but may have more RAM than a standard contemporary device.
@@MrHeylookitsmei think Austin’s review is very one sided and isn’t looking at the bigger picture and its possible use case. This is exactly the same as big streamers having 2 separate pc where the other one is built for maximum power and the other as a dual pc streaming setup to offload unnecessary background processes from your gaming pc, with the power of current generation cpu’s and gpu’s you might think its overkill, i mean it is but if youre a competitive player and want to have even the slightest advantage in your game and have a lot of extra cash to spend then why wouldnt you do it. Thats the same with these types of gaming phone, 120-165hz display, 2khz touch sampling, shitty under display camera might, overclocked processor, higher ram and an active cooling fan sounds unnecessary and possibly overkill, but thats what pro/competitive players want and might eventually need when mobile games can finally utilize it all. You could say the huge battery capacity is offset by an offset by an active cooling fan, well everyone who uses this phone mainly for gaming almost never use it just on battery since this phone has bypass charging where youre using power directly from your changer rather than your battery. All of this is the reason why this phone is the best phone for competitive mobile gamers out there. And to add on, when Austin said why would anyone buy this for mobile gaming when the steam deck is easily accessible is a really bad comparison. Its true that it is a mobile or portable console/pc but they have an entirely different game library from mobile phones.

Gaming phones are for people who game for a longer period of time. Yes, it has the same chip as all other flagships but there is active cooling so you don't have to go around with a cooler and controller.
@@ssmcrew12 You can overclock it in all phones nowadays because they all have the "gaming space" feature. The difference is that the gaming phone has the cooling to push the chip further and for longer.
@@didomitkopinatores Diablo mode is different from game mode, game mode only turns your phone to performance mode while diablo mode literally overcloaks your GPU

Honestly this doesn't seem like a bad niche phone. I'm not a gamer so it's not for me, but if you're someone who wants a flagship at a lower cost than an iphone or s24 ultra and you also happen to find value in gaming features like the headphone jack and side buttons, i think it makes sense.
Steam Deck / ROG Ally etc. are *not* *relevant* at all to the discussion. A gaming phone is so you can game with an actual fully portable device. Anytime, anywhere, with no advance planning. Nobody is standing in line at the grocery store and then whips out a Steam Deck from their front pocket.
It kinda is though, as the steam deck is a mobile device, meant to be taken wherever you want. Sure you're probably not gonna do it in the line at a store, but I wouldn't necessarily do that with a phone either. The steam deck is easy to carry in a purse or backpack, so I would not say it requires any real planning in advance. The real question is price; are you going to buy a 900 dollar phone just to play mobile games, or spend 400 dollars on a steam deck and 500 dollars for a more midrange phone, that can probably play those same mobile games anyway?
@@WolfieNamira Depends on what your doing with it I have both a steam deck and a redmagic 9s pro and there both great devices its the games that matter. @@WolfieNamira If you're a dude, you aren't carrying around a purse. And taking a backpack literally everywhere you go really isn't reasonable. Whip out the phone. At a crowded stadium for a sports game. The phone. Heck in the bathroom stall at work while doing your business. Are you taking a freaking backpack in there? No.... It used to be the DS / 3DS that served this purpose of all-portable anywhere device. The Steam Deck / backpack device can't meet these use cases. That's the void that game phones can fill.
@@metaldiceman not really though, the performance of normal phones can usually play games just fine. the only thing a gaming phone would probably be useful for is emulation or having lots of RAM, there just is no real reason to buy a gaming phone, unless you just want it to look cool

I got the RedMagic 9 PRO a couple months ago and quite honestly, for a factory unlocked 512GB dual SIM gaming phone, this is the best bang for your buck that you can get for under a grand Only complaint I got about it is how flimsy the case is, but beyond that it's an incredible phone
Sadly I think it's a scam as I'll be useless after 1-2year due to support and that such a disappointing factor especially with the price your paying 800-900 its still expensive and at that price point I would just get a s24+ with 7 Years of not only security updates but android updated as well and water and dust resistant not even the ultra if you want below 1000 this phone just has too many drawbacks imho 👍

"we're being environmentally friendly that's why we want you to buy a power brick which is going to be a separate box that's going to end up in a landfill somewhere"
It kind of makes sense to not include a brick when you look at the top 3 sellers in the US for example. Iphones have been using the same brick for the past five gens, Samsung for the past 3-ish gens, same as the Pixel which used 30w right until the 9's. Sure, there's no argument that the environmental sustainability point is somewhat bs, but at the same time they don't have fast charging as an important selling point so they can get away with not including a brick. There is one thing that I find funny though, Pixels don't have a brick in the box, but their wireless charging stands do...
Phones should bring back 360° cam so you could benefit from main cam to take selfies Also no need to put selfie cam that's always inferior against back cam
the point here is if you were considering buying this as a 2nd phone for "gaming". but if you're going to daily drive this thing then i guess its a pretty good deal
No camera notch display + With 3rd party software camera is fine No camera bumps in the back... The precision touch screen is amazing for drawing, sketching, editing I love it 😊
I have the 9 Pro (non-s) and the battery life is incredible. As far as burning more battery than the samsung... you can just adjust the TDP? lol. You have ACCESS to more cooling and therefore more power but you can EASILY tune for efficiency. I have tested previous generation 8 gen 1 AND older 800 and 700 series snapdragons. This chip is VERY efficient and adjustable with an incredibly large battery. You just have to be more active in adjusting your performance. I am a BIG fan of having a physical headphone jack & IR blaster which were old features that I miss from smartphones. I have never worried about having the "best" camera and far more worried about having more performance. I regularly experiment with Winlator, high end console emulation, and dabbling in mobile gaming. For me, I prefer the redmagic over the flagship Samsung because of the performance, superior cooling, battery life, and price.
The approach of using an underscreen front camera is just awesome. You still can use it but the blazes and notch is gone. It's nothing for a "normal" phone but here ? Absolutely great
People hate mobile gaming because 99% of mobile games are hot garbage only designed to manipulate you into spending money. That's why best mobile games are just ports of console/pc games.
Gaming phones are not worth it . The whole idea of gaming is to play beautiful games , but in android there are hardly any good games . The ones that are left are pubg , cod, and all other multiplayer games. We need single players games like ori and will of the wasps , other heavy and beautiful story based games than only the price and performance will be justified . Otherwise 12 gb ram 16gb ram on a smartphone is completely useless
In 2018 they mentioned! These days though, it's much the same for both sides... I really wish that wasn't the case but unless you're going with an Asian device like the Red Magic or even a Sony phone, you have to look at the mid to low end for a headphone jack still.... it sucks.
Something is off about this review Slapping a cooler 1. Is an Extra Expense + The S24Ultra (24U) is more expensive than the Red Magic 9S Pro (Red) 2. Adds more bulk. Can it even be pocketed? Can it powered by the S24U or I need to carry a powers source in addition to the cooler. 3. Is way less subtle in public that just the Red on its own. 4. How much does weigh + S24U VS Red. Gamers usually go hours, and more weight means less play time. When gaming 5. CODM multiplayer (in the video) is a small map in 5v5 and less things happening and the S24 will do well in Ultra setting but in Battle Royale where you have giant map, more players ( Squad vs squid with a one more squad coming to third party with vehicles, gunfire, grenades and Classes (special abilities) activated, it becomes demanding and in those random instances increased bursts of raw processing power are absolutely necessary to be not at a disadvantage) and gaming phones handle that much much better. The Benchmarking 6. Red's body ran hotter than the S24U in a benchmark that is sustained full load for 20 minutes 3Dmark Steel Nomad Stress Test but in gaming that's not the case its random bursts of power so I don't see it getting that crazy hot, warm maybe. 7. True the Red uses more battery to get a better performance therefore consumes more juice. The S24 is draining 11%/20mins Vs the Red's 18%/20mins but the cooler isn't getting its juice from the S24U 6:04 but from an unseen source. Had it been hooked up to the S24U (if possible that the S24U could power the cooler) it would likely consume more power than the Red judging by the size of the cooler. Missed opportunity 8.Since the phones were benchmarked, there should have been a price to performance ratio comparison for the phones with S24U with & without the cooler and its price added. Might that have been deliberate to suit the narrative, I wonder...... Other 9. You failed to mention that the Red supports pass-through charging, also known as charge separation or bypass charging. This feature allows the Red to draw power directly from the charger without using the battery’s stored energy. This can help reduce heat and prolong battery life, especially during long intensive gaming sessions. Trying to do this with the S24U will make it hotter therefore more prone to lag and destroy the battery and to prevent this you will have to put down your S24U to charge it for like 1hr 5mins to charge to full-MOOD RUINED Conclusion 10. Your Conclusion is a bit out of touch IMO cause not everyone have the cash to spring for an S24U and a Rouge Ally. Mobile gaming is great way to have fun (games have also gotten better in quality e.g. Genshin impact, CODM, PUBG, Fortnite, LOL etc.) and if you are on a tighter budget cause the Base Red at $600 something is still a great value for gaming + phone I am just a dude and I may have gotten somethings incorrect, so I stand to be corrected
Well benchmark isn't the only thing. Phones like s24 ultra do take performance hit when you're playing with a good lobby sometimes 30-40 players land on a single area and the phone starts to throttle. But gaming phones tend to perform better in those scenarios. And having triggers built into the photo is also pretty nice that means you can see more on screen and react faster as well.
I am not someone who really games on my phone, but now I am even more interested in this phone. I don’t like Samsung's UI, and I am not loving the Pixel 8 Pro that is my work phone. It's significantly better than my personal Samsung S21 FE. But it's just me I hate camera bumps. My phone is as thick as the camera bump, no matter what, so, use that space for something that improves the experience. Seems like in this case it's battery and cooling. Which makes a lot of sense to me The front camera is never really important to me. If I am going to take a picture I care about I use the back camera every time. And you pointed out it is cheaper than other phones of a similar caliber. So that's pretty awesome! Since I don’t game much, that means that I should be able to squeeze some extra battery life out of it. It's also a nice looking phone Thank you for the review! I am pretty excited for when I can finish saving up for it
The Under screen front facing camera is so cool, I know the quality sucks now but the idea of not having a pinhole at all is so aluring to me, hopefully a company like Samsung or OnePlus can improve on the design

the sole reason imo that the gaming phone exists is that a normal phone can throttle, and is the biggest reason to not use it for some situations. it's just that it's super niche. throttling in any type of gaming is not a fun experience
I feel like the video made some good points but there are some things that either didn't add up or were in my opinion not correct. 1. 50c for a phone is not hot at all. I have a Note 20 that in 3DMark gets up to 75c, and I feel it but it's not like hard to hold. Maybe he has extremely sensitive skin or something. 2. His claims of the 9S having "more battery drain" don't really make sense since comparing to other benchmarks, the 9S wins in terms of battery life. May say that is due to the extra 1,500mah battery size, and that helps, but normally the more battery drain, the less and less charge= less time. 3. Just me, I have never heard of anyone using the front camera, ever. They will just use the back camera. 4. 50mp is perfectly usable in terms of pictures, videos, etc. Yeah, the S24 has a better camera, but would you pay 2x the price for that He's right about the software being a bit bad on translation, and the security updates tho
gaming phone does needed in 2024, where some doesn't want to carry big handheld like ally or steam deck to play games or only games they play is like mobile games. i'm not talking about clash or clans or something like that, but rather like Honkai impact 3rd, Honkai star rail, Wuthering waves, etc and this phone is quite good at it too, for people who needs extra or special buttons and prefer dedicated gaming phone instead of using their main phone to do so
Would love like a non-gamefied looking version of this phone. The whole flat rectangluer design actually looks really amazing, and a headphone jack is a solid plus. Just the gamery stuff on it looks a bit tacky to me. A clean back design as well as stock android on this phone and I would buy it in an instant
The Frost and Sleet versions aren't as "terminally virgin" & dorky looking as the other two imo. Frost looks really good actually. The ASUS ROG 8 Pro looks really good with the back screen, dot matrix lights, on or off. Not to mention, it feels amazing. It also plays really well. Only downside is that there's no way built in fan like the Redmagic, but it takes awhile to start heating up anyway.
@@ViraL_FootprinT.ex.e While I can see people buying the Redmagic due to having a top end chipset for half the price of proper Flagships, the ROG phone for me doesn't make sense at all. If the Asus ROG phone was genuinely cheaper than flagships the it might make more sense, although I still think it's a weird looking phone
Why does gaming phones exist? Unlike the west, we don't have much time to boot up a computer to play games for hours. A decent free time is in short intervals usually. Gaming on phone is just better in these occasions.
Well in this case they both have the snapdragon 8 gen 3 except one has a overclocked version only giving you like 5% performance increase yet boiling hot because they push the chip to its max even to the point the fan can't cool it efficiently
Love my redmagic 9S pro, love the under screen camera, I'm not big on selfies, I don't think anyone purchasing this phone would be, love the speakers, holy hell, they're actually an alternative to a jbl speaker, was not expecting tech this advanced I must say. The oled screen is just beautiful, I've never seen such a beautiful screen on a phone before. You talk about updates of major brand phones, my old iphone can't be used anymore because the last update rendered the access button inoperable. This is another reason why we would want to buy a chinese brand phone, we know we don't have to put up with that kind of bs. Redmagic has better quality tech for a better price, and the phone is a work of art. I should also mention the flat cameras, very nice. Highest screen ratio as well. I'm not a phone gamer btw, I didn't buy it for that, I sure as hell enjoy the tunes coming out of it though. I sure as hell want to see more phones engineered like this, and i'm sure Austin does too. So sick of seeing major phone brands ditch quality for more profits too.
And plus the whole point of the phone is to provide top notch performance whilst being relatively affordable so making a comparison with an expensive phone that wasn't built for this whilst needing a also expensive and rather awkward to carry around makes no sense
1 TB SD card is $50. A company can charge $200+ more for 256 gigs compared to 64 or 128. It's not about water/dust proofing. SD card can sit with sim card tray, which is already ip rated. It's about money. Period.
I will be buying this phone since i was waiting for a new powerful phone without a camera hole on the front, after having a Xiaomi 9T Pro with a pop up camera and now one with a camera hole again i just missed the full screen experience and will be getting this phone mainly because of this reason
I really love my Red Magic 6s Pro as I got good specs for a decent price. Still runs well and battery life is decent for three years of age but gets quite hot playing games. Biggest draws were headphone jack and no front camera punch or notch. Interested to upgrade about when 10/10s releases, then it'll be about four years between my phone purchases.
I picked this phone up for half the price of the s24. The battery life, fast charge, no hole punch, lays flat, and a freaking audio jack. Man I moved away from audio jacks, but they are so nice. Great sound quality, easy to use, cool phone.
I think it's a thing that only youtube reviewers really care about. Most normal people rarely if ever use their front cameras. The huge notch/ eye lens on iphones is the main reason I'm not an iPhone person. My android phone at least has a tiny hole punch camera, although I would prefer no front camera or an under screen lower quality one.
Honestly the type of gaming phone I really want is a modern take on something like the Xperia Play. Having a slide out controller (or another similar solution) instead of having to buy a seperate third party accessory would be absolutely awesome and would 100% get my money. (Currently using a Nacon MG-X Pro and I love it, but it is an extra thing to carry around and attach/detach whenever I wanna use it).
The thing you missed in the video is that the actual benefit of having active cooling on a phone is not necessarily being faster than the others (although bigger number good for publicity) but the fact that it can help a lot with thermal throttling. Sure even my 8 gen 1 phone can run cod mobile a 120 fps, but can do it only for 15 minutes max and then the performance decreases over time. Same deal with emulating switch games, until they become unplayable. However having that fan can help to reduce or even eliminate that effect and since most of the apps don't need the full performance of the chip, it's probably not going to get uncomfortably hot unless you're really pushing it.
Fascinating line of "thought"... the device without cooling thermal throttles... add active cooling so it can run hotter for longer... it probably won't get uncomfortably hot unless you're............................................. doing exactly that.
@@jefferyG499 gaming is usually not gonna be as demanding as running stress tests for long periods of times, that's why stress tests and Benchmarks exist in the first place. So unless your plan is watching Benchmarks run over and over again instead of playing games that are usually optimized for 2 or 3 gens of processor being if not more, it's gonna beat different results
Austin Evans, the number one reason for me to buy the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 (the other reason being alcohol and poor judgement because I didn't need a new phone 😂) love from Finland ❤❤
I think you are being a bit biased. The tests weren’t fair nor accurate. You also mentioned something about optimizing power consumption to reduce heat and extend battery life. Here’s why that would be a disadvantage for mobile gamers: In gaming, FPS (frames per second) is really important, especially for games like CODM and PUBG Mobile. iPhones do this, and it’s really annoying. In situations where many players are close together on the map, especially in scrims or esports, the screen will dim significantly, and/or the frame rate will drop as soon as the phone heats up a bit. On Samsung devices, I’ve experienced frame drops in the same scenarios. That’s why I think RedMagic went for a different approach. Also, when you perform benchmarks for battery life, you should keep in mind that other companies optimize their phones by reducing performance when the phone gets too hot. By reducing performance, the battery life will obviously appear “better,” even though performance per battery life is probably still better on the RedMagic.
Gaming phones are popular in asia, where people spend hours playing mobile games and actually earn money through professional esports. It’s not that popular in North America because to be honest, North American esports teams suck and they have less support. Look at china, india, korea and south east Asian countries, mobile gaming is popular there so gaming phones are also popular there.
@@anonanonymous9670 you think we don’t have pc and consoles in Asia? 😂 how do you think MOBA games were played before it was introduced to mobile gaming? Do you know that the biggest gaming PC market and console market is in Asia? Stop acting superior when you’re just ignorant.
I'm planning on getting one, and the corner cuts you talked about don't bother me at all especially the camera as I almost never use the cameras on my galaxy s22 ultra. I primarily want this phone for remote play from my consoles and some mobile gaming. The only thing I do with my phone aside from using it as a phone or watching TH-cam.
I have the Red magic 9 pro that released earlier this year (the 12gb of RAM model). Let me explain why I chose it over anything else: 1. The haptic triggers They are an absolute game changer. In CoD mobile you have a distinct advantage over anyone using pure touch controls. In games like Minecraft and Stardew valley, the game becomes infinitely more playable. Taking your thumbs off the virtual sticks to press what would be trigger buttons on a controller is just really awkward and annoying. These haptic triggers fix that. 2. The headphone jack Not many worthwhile phones these days have a headphone jack. I don't think I need to explain any further. 3. It has a "console" mode If you plug HDMI cable into it, it goes into "console" mode, and allows you to play your games on any screen. The only other phones that do this are flagship Samsung phones that support DEX. 4. It's cheaper than any comparable phone There's almost not reason to get the 16Gb model. It's an overpriced waste of money. The 12Gb model has plenty of RAM and costs significantly less. But even the 16Gb model is almost HALF THE PRICE of the S24 ultra, and it actually outperforms that phone as well. 5. The active cooling There are few gamer phones with fans, but they all cost a fortune, and offer very little over a normal flagship phone. This phone is the exception. It has features that actually make it unique on top of active cooling to keep it from burning your hands. (Austin is just being a cry baby. It doesn't get very hot with normal use.) 6. No camera bump No explanation needed. 7. No notch in the screen for a camera i dont care about No explanation needed. WARNING: getting this phone activated on north american carriers can be a pain. The only carrier that "officially" supports it is T-Mobile. If you want any other carrier, then you're gonna have a rough time. It took finagling to get mine activated on Verizon.
@@nickthaskater yeah but they all suck. And one of them requires you to buy a Huawei. The only one worth using is DEX on Samsung phones. Literally just plug it in and it just works. Just like with the Red magic 9 pro.
okay i agree with your end statement for the most part. you do have to realise that there are esports for certain mobile games like codm where device can actually matter and in those cases a gaming phone is just better than a flagship phone
tbf, the reason i still go with the Asus RoG phones is mostly because of the feature set i get. front firing speakers is a big plus for me, and i get access to Asus Audio Wizard on my phone, which have proven incredibly useful as i listen to a lot of heavy metal, and it helps balancing out the tuning of my headphones/earbuds. the camera is good enough for me, although others like google pixels, samsung and sony's phones cameras far outshines it (not gonna compare iPhone, not the same OS). and while i may not get the same feature rich experience with Asus as you would with samsung, the amount of bloatware on the phone when you get it, is way lower. and then there's price. costs less than the newest samsung, unless you go all the way with a pro model. on top of that, i use my phone for games, so stuff like extreme performance mode (and even furrther when attaching the cooler) is a nice feature, although never really needed.

I've owned my Redmagic 9s pro for more than 7 months now and I bought it after my Samsung Z Fold 3 broke with the inner screen not turning on anymore and needs replacement. One big pro about owning the Redmagic 9s pro that wasn't mentioned in the video is that it's literally 50% cheaper than a Samsung S24 Ultra. I've owned Samsung flagships since the S7 Edge with around a 2-year phone cycle so I was already thinking of getting the S24 Ultra after my Z Fold 3 broke, but I sat down and thought really hard about my priorities in a new phone since I'm now a dad. I just had my $2000 USD Z Fold 3 break down on me when I was planning to use it for another 2 years to break my 2-year phone cycle because of new financial responsibilities for my growing family, while I did really love Samsung top quality cameras, I wasn't really using my camera for work or for entertainment that much anymore since I rarely post photos on my socials. In the last 2 years with my Z Fold 3, I've used it more for gaming more than anything else(which probably broke the inner screen) and this increase in mobile gaming came as I got busier at work and had less time playing on my PC and simply take quick breaks playing a quick 20 minute MOBA or COD mobile game every 2-3 hours of working. Shelling out another $2000 USD on the S24 Ultra just doesn't make sense when I could get a much cheaper 700 USD and just use it for exactly playing a quick 20 minute MOBA or COD mobile game, and also for the 80W charging because I always forget to charge. ALSO also, the front-facing camera on my old Z Fold 3 also sucked a lot because of it being an under-display screen so the switch to the Redmagic 9s pro really wasn't much of a big deal, I really only use my front-facing camera for video calls with family and as we all know messenger video calls will make your video quality suck anyway regardless if you have an iPhone 15 pro max or a $200 USD potato phone. I've never really liked dedicated handheld PCs like the Steam deck simply because they're quite bulky to carry around anyways, I can't play games on the settings I would play them on my PC, and the PC games I play on Steam are usually game that use keyboard and mouse like FPS, RTS, Sim racing, etc.; and quite frankly, in between work and family time, PC gaming for me nowadays seem to be too much of a commitment.

Yeah, of course the phone with a fan strapped to the back is going to be cooler than the one without a fan, that was blatant rigging it to the S24
The OnePlus 12 results shown in the video is right in it's pricing ballpark and it performed better than the Samsung in some results before a fan was strapped on. Mind you they showed results with the fan for each phone as I understand it.
It's (it is) hard to take you seriously when you write sentences like "something that's closer [to it] is price range."
You compare devices against what is considered the best in class to get a holistic view on where it ranks in the overall product category.
Redmagic 9s Pro - 700$
Samsung S24 Ultra - 1299$
Redmagic gives you Solid Constant Performance
Samsung may compromise a bit when it gets hot
Redmagic Doesn't need an extra cooling for most scenerios
Samsung definitely needs one at some point which the phone being that costly.
Redmagic you need to may reduce your expectations about Camera
Samsung gives good camera but it's 10x optical zoom that's not much...
Redmagic gives you a benchmark score of 2.3M
Samsung gives you a score of 1.9M - 2M

Honestly, I hardly ever use a front facing camera.
So under the screen is fine even if lower quality.
And yes, more software updates, more is better.
You're definitely not the only one. In all the years of owning smartphones, I don't think I've used front facing cameras more than 5 or so times.

(idk why other phones still don't do this)
i'd 100% buy one, not only because it's cheaper for flagship specs but i do a ton of gaming on my phone so getting the most out of it would be a pretty big +.

Bc people Already got better battry and performance
I also buy new phone only bc battry problem and charging problem
And that's why people who aren't playing Mobile games regularly shouldn't review Gaming phones
Because they don't know why Redmagic or Rogs are better than normal flagships
For once the touch sampling rate is way better on gaming phones
And the ability to retain fps in intense situations during the gaming session is so much better
For example: the s24 ultra drop frames alot while playing codm Ranked lobbies (no I'm not talking about elite or master lobbies or your pubs any phone can run fine while playing low ranked matches or pubs I'm talking Legendary ranked and scrims) the fps some times drop to 90 which messes up sensitivity increases motion blur and touch sampling as well not to mention it gets extremely hot
while redmagic retains fps like you can get 115-120 easily yes it gets hot but only like 40-41°C max
So yes it is worth it for People to buy these gaming phones if they want to play at the highest ranks comfortably
BASICALLY you got soft hands boooyyyy 😂 I agree he should try to get to mythic on a mobile game 😂

Common issues with gaming phones in my experience. Cheap hardware, Battery issues, little to none software updates, consistency.

Yeah I have a steam deck and the redmagic 9s pro there good
It kinda is though, as the steam deck is a mobile device, meant to be taken wherever you want.
I play PC games on my redmagic 9s pro and steam deck I think the redmagic 9s pro is great because you cant allways bring multiple devices with you for example bringing a steam deck and a phone with you is way harder then simply bringing a gaming phone. for me bringing the redmagic phone with me seems like an all in one solution for games like minecraft java edition where you could have a PC level experience on your phone and i feel like thats where the redmagic 9s pro shines. the steam deck also works but you need a seprate phone for mobile data unless theres some portable usb c data thingy then idk how your going to just going to bring a steam deck with you. usally when i bring my steam deck someone is usally pocketing me with their personal hotspots on their phone and unless i have a cable for wired hotspots its laggy.
@@WolfieNamira If you're a dude, you aren't carrying around a purse. And taking a backpack literally everywhere you go really isn't reasonable.
I'm talking about all those use cases where you are out and about with just the things in your pants pockets. Out to eat at a restaurant with your family and waiting for your food.

I got the RedMagic 9 PRO a couple months ago and quite honestly, for a factory unlocked 512GB dual SIM gaming phone, this is the best bang for your buck that you can get for under a grand
Only complaint I got about it is how flimsy the case is, but beyond that it's an incredible phone
Sadly I think it's a scam as I'll be useless after 1-2year due to support and that such a disappointing factor especially with the price your paying 800-900 its still expensive and at that price point I would just get a s24+ with 7 Years of not only security updates but android updated as well and water and dust resistant not even the ultra if you want below 1000
this phone just has too many drawbacks imho 👍
Yeah, but at the same time the S24+ will be factory locked to a particular network to get it under 1k, whereas the 9 PRO is factory unlocked from the get go

Something is off about this review
Slapping a cooler
1. Is an Extra Expense + The S24Ultra (24U) is more expensive than the Red Magic 9S Pro (Red)
When gaming
The Benchmarking
Missed opportunity
8.Since the phones were benchmarked, there should have been a price to performance ratio comparison for the phones with S24U with & without the cooler and its price added. Might that have been deliberate to suit the narrative, I wonder......
Other
9. You failed to mention that the Red supports pass-through charging, also known as charge separation or bypass charging. This feature allows the Red to draw power directly from the charger without using the battery’s stored energy. This can help reduce heat and prolong battery life, especially during long intensive gaming sessions. Trying to do this with the S24U will make it hotter therefore more prone to lag and destroy the battery and to prevent this you will have to put down your S24U to charge it for like 1hr 5mins to charge to full-MOOD RUINED
Conclusion
10. Your Conclusion is a bit out of touch IMO cause not everyone have the cash to spring for an S24U and a Rouge Ally. Mobile gaming is great way to have fun (games have also gotten better in quality e.g. Genshin impact, CODM, PUBG, Fortnite, LOL etc.) and if you are on a tighter budget cause the Base Red at $600 something is still a great value for gaming + phone
I am just a dude and I may have gotten somethings incorrect, so I stand to be corrected

The redmagic 9s gives you your very own Waifu!!! That would have me sold.
Yes there is a market for these I've owned 3 and they've all performed way better than my flagships by far
Don't matter, S24 Ultra best.

I hate camera bumps. My phone is as thick as the camera bump, no matter what, so, use that space for something that improves the experience. Seems like in this case it's battery and cooling. Which makes a lot of sense to me
The front camera is never really important to me. If I am going to take a picture I care about I use the back camera every time.

@0:09 Guess the marketing team for this phone agrees, Austin, see "re-tresh rate"... trash, hrhrhr.
Yeah, the S24 has a better camera, but would you pay 2x the price for that
He's right about the software being a bit bad on translation, and the security updates tho
Only a non gamer would make such a comparison

Would love like a non-gamefied looking version of this phone. The whole flat rectangluer design actually looks really amazing, and a headphone jack is a solid plus.
Its more expensive than some flagships but had the same specs as those but with a worse camera. I won't lie, the back screen does look pretty cool, but that's it. If the Asus ROG phone was genuinely cheaper than flagships the it might make more sense, although I still think it's a weird looking phone
Personally I couldn't care less about selfie cam. I'd be more than happy to have a full screen display if it meant poor selfie quality
Why does gaming phones exist? Unlike the west, we don't have much time to boot up a computer to play games for hours. A decent free time is in short intervals usually. Gaming on phone is just better in these occasions.
YES!!
Please 🥺 if you are trying to decide between the two phones which to buy don't watch this video he has absolutely no Idea what he is taking about
And plus the whole point of the phone is to provide top notch performance whilst being relatively affordable so making a comparison with an expensive phone that wasn't built for this whilst needing a also expensive and rather awkward to carry around makes no sense

I picked this phone up for half the price of the s24. The battery life, fast charge, no hole punch, lays flat, and a freaking audio jack.
Man I moved away from audio jacks, but they are so nice. Great sound quality, easy to use, cool phone.
Am I the only one who never uses the front facing camera on their phone or is it just a youtuber thing
@@CadgerChristmasLightShow my opinion exactly
However having that fan can help to reduce or even eliminate that effect and since most of the apps don't need the full performance of the chip, it's probably not going to get uncomfortably hot unless you're really pushing it.
but it prevents water and dust resistance
@@abcdoooabcd that is a trade off, yes

Gaming phones aren't popular in the west because we can actually afford consoles/PCs to play actual video games on.

complaning about a subpar camera on a gaming phone. this guy is smart
I have the Red magic 9 pro that released earlier this year (the 12gb of RAM model). Let me explain why I chose it over anything else:
1. The haptic triggers
They are an absolute game changer.
2. The headphone jack
Not many worthwhile phones these days have a headphone jack. I don't think I need to explain any further.
3. It has a "console" mode
If you plug HDMI cable into it, it goes into "console" mode, and allows you to play your games on any screen. The only other phones that do this are flagship Samsung phones that support DEX.
4. It's cheaper than any comparable phone
There's almost not reason to get the 16Gb model. It's an overpriced waste of money. The 12Gb model has plenty of RAM and costs significantly less. But even the 16Gb model is almost HALF THE PRICE of the S24 ultra, and it actually outperforms that phone as well.
5. The active cooling
There are few gamer phones with fans, but they all cost a fortune, and offer very little over a normal flagship phone. This phone is the exception. It has features that actually make it unique on top of active cooling to keep it from burning your hands. (Austin is just being a cry baby. It doesn't get very hot with normal use.)
6. No camera bump
No explanation needed.
7. No notch in the screen for a camera i dont care about
No explanation needed.
WARNING: getting this phone activated on north american carriers can be a pain. The only carrier that "officially" supports it is T-Mobile. If you want any other carrier, then you're gonna have a rough time. It took finagling to get mine activated on Verizon.

tbf, the reason i still go with the Asus RoG phones is mostly because of the feature set i get. front firing speakers is a big plus for me, and i get access to Asus Audio Wizard on my phone, which have proven incredibly useful as i listen to a lot of heavy metal, and it helps balancing out the tuning of my headphones/earbuds. the camera is good enough for me, although others like google pixels, samsung and sony's phones cameras far outshines it (not gonna compare iPhone, not the same OS). and while i may not get the same feature rich experience with Asus as you would with samsung, the amount of bloatware on the phone when you get it, is way lower. and then there's price. costs less than the newest samsung, unless you go all the way with a pro model. on top of that, i use my phone for games, so stuff like extreme performance mode (and even furrther when attaching the cooler) is a nice feature, although never really needed.
Didnt test it vs another gaming phone: Check
Disnt understand that cooling is better to retain performance over time instead of throttling: check
Only checked the cooler with the S24 but not the redmagic: check
Think cameras is the most important in the world for gamers: check
Not realising you shouldnt review gaming phones: check
No idea what touch sampling rate is: check.
Rename this lazy mans review.... Cause you did nothing to review ut. Only to talk negative about it.
I've never really liked dedicated handheld PCs like the Steam deck simply because they're quite bulky to carry around anyways, I can't play games on the settings I would play them on my PC, and the PC games I play on Steam are usually game that use keyboard and mouse like FPS, RTS, Sim racing, etc.; and quite frankly, in between work and family time, PC gaming for me nowadays seem to be too much of a commitment.
bro forgot to mention ip rating. Phone with vents and cooler does not get one
IP rating is a gimmick anyway
So don't go swimming with it?
Seems like an easy problem to solve.

@@jefferyG499 person who doesn't understand that most people are smart enough to put there fucking phone away when it's fucking raining is baffled by the idea that most people aren't fucking idiots.
No more at 11. That's the entire story.
@@GeneralNickles Raining isn't the only situation where a phone will get wet, but having the phone sealed from the outside world protected from water, dust and debris is nice to have. Even protecting your phone from humid enviroments can help with internal corrosion over time. Also what does cursing someone out help with anything? It just shows that you are biased against one side and doesn't help with your argument. You can take your anger out of TH-cam to Reddit.
Bro you are the last person that should be seen testing this phone cause you obviously have no experience with games
