Good morning Mike: What a nice way to start the morning. Wonderful conversation with the passengers. Nice group getting on and off this morning. Does look cold there this morning.ABQ 31 degrees this morning warming into the 50 this afternoon. Off to breakfast and second cup of coffee. Stay warm and be safe out there there.😊😊😊😊😊
Good morning, Gerald; I thank you for tuning in and the comments. He was the second BNSF retiree I met this week. Both from Sterling, CO which is a division and crew change point. It's up to 34 F and climbing at 0930. The parking area is filling with vehicles of those traveling. That is a good sign for AMTRAK. Have a great Saturday down there. Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning, Mike; Thanks for dialing in and the comment. I did as a matter of fact drink 3 coffees so far. Unlike my ancestors I am not going to dance around the pole in my birthday suit to celebrate. LOL!! Have a great Saturday. Please take care and stay safe!
Nice group on/off today. I bet the trip to Glenwood Springs is nice. 50/60s for us this week . Maybe a chance of rain after Christmas. Have a nice weekend .Yes, that train wreck was bad in Pecos-so sad.
Good morning, Cheryl; Thank you for tuning in and the comments. It is nice to see the parking area with lots of vehicles. That means more riders for AMTRAK. Other than the rain chance the weather there sounds like here. May get a slight dip in the temps next Thursday. I did see the video from the newscast of the Pecos wreck. That was ugly. My heart goes to the families of the dead from that incident. Anyway, I hope that you have a great Saturday. lease take care and stay safe!
Good morning, David; I thank you for stopping by and the comments. Yep. That should be a nice ride to the western slope. Have a great Saturday up there. Please take care and stay safe!
Morning Mike. Season's Greatings. Once again alot of platform action. Hope you get a little warmer, but enjoy a White Christmas. The secret will be an appropriate amount of hot coffee & a glass of egg nog. Stay safe, be careful and enjoy the weekend.
Good morning, Jim; Thanks for dropping by and the comments. I would like to be warmer, and your recipe sounds like it will hit the spot. Egg nog?? Yep. Don't need the coffee with the egg nog, if prepared correctly and exacting proportions. But then again, an Irish coffee would set it all right. LOL! Have a great Saturday afternoon and evening back there. Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning Mike Well that was the most amount of traffic since I started watching I really like to see the large groups. And everyone was ready getting on and off Must have Bennet a bit of west wind, horn seemed louder heading out. Thanks and stay well.
Good morning, Dan; I thank you for stopping by and the comments. It was a definite busload of Amish who detrained today. If I had kept my mouth closed the incoming horn music was clear and crisp. I did catch one of the three crossing blasts. The outbound was also clear and on a freshening wind from the west. He also gave a blast of the horn earlier than I expected. Have a great Saturday. Please take care and stay safe!
Good evening, James; I thank you for stopping by and the comments. That was a nice morning adventure on the platform today. Sadly, I gave up my parking slot for those who are riding the Zephyr. Oh well. There is more parking available. Have a great evening up there. Please take care, stay warm, and safe!
Good evening, Thomas; Thank you for dialing in and the comments. You are right about the increasing daylight. It may not be noticeable for the first week or so but it is coming back even with the chilly temperatures. Have a great evening. Please take care and stay safe!
Hi Mike wow nice crowd on the platform today. we are getting your weather here for a few days.Brrr. thanks for the catch of #5 . have a great rest of your day.
Good afternoon, Ken; Thanks for stopping by and the comments. That was a large group of folks today. I did look at that weather map showing temperatures and said the same thing when I saw how large that arctic air mass is. It is 59 F as I write this as 1505 MST. That will go away as the sun drops. Anyway, have a great afternoon and evening back there. Please take care, stay warm, and safe
Good Saturday morning Mike! Sunny and 21 degrees here in southeast Iowa this morning! Should get up to 29 after while. I saw some of those Amish women wearing heart shaped head coverings. The only Amish that wear them are from Pennsylvania. That’s what I’ve had local Amish tell me anyway over the years. Regardless they traveled quite a ways to head to Nebraska via Colorado! Have a great Saturday out your way Sir! I’m doing that back here! Mark in Iowa.
Good morning, Mark; Thank you for dialing in along with the comments. I saw the early morning temps east of here this morning and decided that it wasn't really too bad here. That is one big blog of arctic air. The Amish have a large ranch/enclave up in far northwestern Nebraska. It is due north of here with very few turns in the highway until they reach Scott's Bluff. Then it is just a couple of miles east followed by a bunch more north and a couple miles west. I seem to remember those head coverings in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Yep. Been there. Great food! Cleanliness. With the sun shining brightly and the temps climbing thru 40 F. I'll be able to wash the PU sooner than I thought. Maybe get it dried before sundown. LOL! Have a great afternoon and evening back there. Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning, Kent; Thank you for stopping by and the comments. It was a nice day to take the train somewhere. Have a great Monday. Please take care and stay safe!
Hi Damien; Thank you for dialing in and the comment. I hope that your Christmas is a great one down there. Please take care and stay safe! Again, Merry Christmas!
Lots of activity at the platform this mornng. Another group of Amish(?) this morning. Is there an Amish community nearby? Groups seem to arrive now and then, but I seldom see them depart on the Zephyr. Mike thanks for the extended description of how you prepare for these cold mornings that you wrote a couple of days ago. Its not like you just get out of bed and head to the station. There is some thought and preparation in the morning to be safe in this cold weather. Hypothermia is a real possibilty at these temperatures. Glad you do the prep to stay safe and warm, at least as warm as possible while at the station. You show up every day and make it look easy, but there is a lot of behind the scenes prep to get out there in these weather conditions and do it safely. Any chance we will see a white Christmas in Fort Morgan? Best Ted
Good morning, Ted; Thank you for stopping by and the comments. I appreciate it. Yep. That group was headed for far northwestern Nebraska and the enclave up there. Their bus didn't mess around when they departed the parking area. I did follow them almost to the north city limits as I headed for coffee. It is about a 5-hour bus ride for them. This is the closest depot for there. Once in a long while a family will board headed west and they are usually headed to Glenwood Springs. That is a very popular vacation spot. Many board the Zephyr in Chicago from trains coming from farther east. I have seen some board at Galesburg. As for prepping to head for the depot, the neighbors would frown upon my ideal garb in the summertime. Wintertime is a much different story. As I get older, I find my fingers and hands tend to get cold very fast. The hand warmers work quite well in keeping the hands and fingers operational. And with a killer heater in the cab of the pickup, it all comes together. I still make my walk of the entire platform prior to the train arrival. Even in the chill. There will not be a White Christmas in Ft. Morgan. That would be a rare event although we did have one three years ago. The high country may (20%) get some Christmas night. They do need it up there. Anyway, have a great Saturday out there. Please take care and stay safe and if I don't hear from you prior have a Merry Christmas!
Good Morning, Mike. I am way behind on watching your videos and chatting with you. Danny and I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas. We have had a long and very tiring 6 weeks. Danny RETIRED suddenly and I mean SUDDENLY. He had planned to retire around June of 2025. He just couldn't handle the politics at the park. We had to vacate the state house in 30 days. We had accumulated a lot of stuff. I had hundreds of HARD BACK BOOKS. We had no idea of what we were going to do. We made it work. We are living next to his brother's house on Pine Island renovating a 20 foot cargo trailer. The only downside: Living in it while we do that. It's been INTERESTING. Good luck with the new channel. I will start catching up. Love and hugs from Danny and I.
Good morning, Sarah and Danny; Thank you for tuning in and the comments. I am happy that you found the new channel. This was forced upon me much as your retirement. I was saddened to read that, yet I do understand. Sadly, a state of today's politics worldwide. I am happy that you had a place to vacate to. All goes well out here so far. I have the Christmas stuff almost completed for this year. There are always some loose ends. I have been watching the videos you have posted. After hearing what has happened back there, I was surprised to see them. Anyway, I do hope that you have a great Christmas back there. Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning, Carol; Thank you for stopping by and the question. The #5 California Zephyr captured here is headed west from Chicago to Emeryville, California which is located just north of Oakland on the San Francisco Bay. An easy way to remember the direction of travel is by the number of the train. All odd numbers are headed west. Even Numbers are going east. Have a great Monday. Please take care and stay safe!
Hello Mike. This is my first comment on your new channel. I will admit, it is a bummer that you’re taking down your other channel but at least you’re still making videos on another one. I’m looking forward to Christmas. I have been in Sacramento with my girlfriend, Olivia and we got to ride the Polar Express train ride at the California State Railroad Museum a few days ago. I’m planning on ending 2024 on a strong note and have a good Winter Solstice
Good afternoon, Eric; Thank you for looking in and the comments. It sounds as though you are having a great time with the Polar Express and all out there. I was forced to take down the original channel as I couldn't transfer into the OS of my new computer. That channel now exists only an a decrepit and really old laptop that is cobbled together with external mouse and keyboard. I have no idea how long it will last and have a newer laptop to transfer this channel onto. That will give me mobile service and a backup to this desktop. BTW, the older desktop was infected with some malware I didn't want to share with others. That computer has been destroyed physically. Anyway, I thank you for finding the new channel. I have some things to get done to make it more friendly and will commence that after the start of the new year. Please take care and stay safe!
Good afternoon Sir that white people mover must have been the groups ride.Hope all is well with you & this reaches you May your day be blessed & thank you for # 5. 👋😉🏈💥😎
Good afternoon, Carolyn; Thanks for tuning in along with the comments. I wonder about that white people mover. They were hammering on the forward door of the passenger area after they parked in in the handicap area. I am hoping they made it back to the enclave. It has really warmed up here. We may get another day of it tomorrow. Anyway, I hope that you have a great afternoon and evening. Please take care and stay safe! 😎👋👌👍👍☀🌠
Good afternoon, Ben; Thank you for stopping by along with the comments. This is supposed to be the busiest travel day of the season. It sure looked that way here. I think that group was from Pennsylvania based on the head gear the women were wearing. That's a trip for them. And the return trip as well. Have a great Saturday afternoon and evening back there. Please take care and stay safe!

Happy Solstice Mike. It will be cold for a while but we have six months of increasing light ahead. That is good. Be safe and warm.
