It's funny that you should mention that. I emailed the governor here in N.Y. about the Beacon line a while ago ( which is owned by the MTA ), and is one step above being abandoned. It runs from Beacon N.Y., and eventually connects to the MTA's / Housatonic railroad to the east in Connecticut. I asked if any short line operators had been contacted to see if this route could be put to use to generate income for the MTA, which perpetually operates in the red. I'm still waiting for a response. This was a heavily used freight route ( Conrail ) at one time, and is the only east /west connection between the Harlem and Hudson divisions, which is why it still exists. A local fellow in the area on TH-cam wrote to me saying that he was told by MTA workers that the state didn't want to deal with the issue of the grade crossing on route 9 in Fishkill, which is already plagued with traffic lights and heavy traffic. I hate to see a possible revenue generating rail road sit unused. In my opinion, this is yet another failure of the State of New York to preserve and maintain railroad infrastructure - the upper Harlem division and the demise of the Putnam division were earlier victims of the same incompetence that we see today.
What a magnificent production. You did not over-narrate, and the drone footage was excellent , The RR now has the R.J. Corman label and re-painted locomotives.. Thank you.
A terrific video of a little-known operation in Tennessee. I liked the inclusion of drone and locomotive-based cameras. It was a nice variety of angles that gave me a better appreciation for the terrain and farmland the train traversed. I'm glad that I found this video to watch. Thanks!
Great Video. ! Used to deliver rail ties to Monterey from Kopper in Guthrie Kentucky back in the Day. Used to stay at that truckstop all the time. Used to have really great food there. Keep Up the great Work. 🇺🇲 ✅️😎
I was just surprisingly "captivated" .. What a GREAT production .... repeating others now, no over-narration and gravity-rolling train cars.... 68 years old... just "mesmerized" :)
As a Swede living in a small factory town with rail connection to the factory, I don't think I've ever heard the train horn be used, even outside my town. And usually you can't drive ahead of the trains, and I'm talking about freight trains. Seeing this video almost deafened me with how much they lay on the horn, even through neighborhoods, I'd go crazy haha. Also here people respect the crossings, they stop and wait instead of the train stopping for the non caring drivers, also in that case no horn necessary! Oh also main line has electrical switches and signals, just our factory railyard that lacks electrical switches.
Nice video, love seeing the short lines, so much more carictor then the class 1's. Boy that track needs some TLC, you can see the cars lifting up on the grade crossing.
Your channel is an inspiration. As I live minutes from apart of the old AWRR/capmetro shortline I still need to film the west end but intend on putting all of its services into one video and try my best to do some narration and captioning but use your videos always as a good resource example as to how to edit my railfan catches. Thank you for this coverage and all that you do with the TH-cam railfan community 👍👍

Absolutely Excellent , your production is always top of the class , this one sets a new bar . For those of us living outside the U.S., the additional information and general landscapes you also film are superb 😊.
This video is awesome. Makes me homesick. Grew up in Batesville Ar, former mopac area. Now it's northeast Arkansas and Missouri railway I believe. A line going beside the white river, probably the most scenery of many lines. Lots of bluffs and river scenery, beautiful area. Worth recording in as well. If I can get back out there, I'll try to catch some.
another excellent video. every time you guys upload a video, i know i'm in for treat. definitely among the best produced, not only on you tube, but for general TV viewing.
Excellent video “ride-along”. Over the past few years I’ve been thinking how wonderful it would be to ride the rails on a freight train for fun. So the only thing on my bucket list of things to do before God calls me home is to do just this, even if it’s only a one time deal. If the author of this video can put me in touch with this railroad company I’d appreciate it as I do live here in Tennessee.
We rode Motorcars on that line last year from Lebanon to Sliver Point and back its beautiful line especially beyond Carthage Junction towards Silver Point.
Those two locomotives are beautiful together. Csx and Bnsf should do more Foreign powers with each other. It would be hard because csx mostly operates in eastern USA and bnsf on the western side
This is really awesome watching the trains especially here in Tennessee and there is a lot of beautiful scenery there and seeing the nice towns that they go through this was really awesome seeing this thank you.🚂🚃🚃🇺🇲
The only other scenic short line RR comparable in Tennessee is the Lhoist line. Beautiful scenery on both lines. Both parallel I-40 so there are those rare chances to get a great catch of forgotten lines.
Even if the ICRR had been able to get the whole line, it likely would have sold if off since they merged with the GM&O a few years later. That was a merger that never should have happened. The old TC between Hopkinsville to Nashville was part of the ICG’s route from Evansville, IN via Henderson, KY. It was called the Evansville District or Division. Unfortunately, by the late 1970s they had been operating that line(among others) at a loss. Another thing that hurt that route was it competed with the L&N’s route from Evansville to Nashville, and it was a better one.
Love the content! I might head out that was next year to get some action there. But out of curiosity what camera do you use for videos? I’m trying to get one so i don’t have to use my phone.
Great work DIB! Quick question for those familiar with switching operations. @49:19 the train stops in Cookeville to pick up loaded gondolas. However, they cut the attached hoppers off the train on the main line to back into the siding and couple to the hoppers. Why? Wouldn't it be easier to just back into the siding without cutting off the hoppers? Seems like a bit of extra work to do an extra coupling, release the hopper hand brakes, and recharge the train brakes.
They run "2" conductors? Little bit odd... Usually one of the 2 ground men would be either a switchman, trainmen and/or brakeman. Years ago, I was on a tree man crew and the brakeman kept calling himself conductor. Our local FRA stopped us and gave us a defect over it. I thought it was a bit petty, but, the conductor is the boss.
The national freight railroad system has pretty much been cut to the bone. There are no real duplicate lines left to cut of any real size. These shortline operators are proving to be very efficient. Many are spin off s of what was once part of the large Class One railroad but didn t fit in the big railroad s big plans. . As ever increasing insurances and fuel and labor and interest rates cost the trucking industry these smaller operators are starting to be more common.
The line had most of the C40-8 which were Ex-CSX and Ex-BNSF but with all of them now in the RJ Corman colors, what will happen in the future for these locomotives?
However nice this is, from the looks of it, they need to do some major track infrastructure repair. Also a little overpowered on that train, one unit would done the job just fine.
well, apparently, this was NOT the first train on this line in YEARS. Otherwise, they would have been deliverying empties and not picking up any loaded cars
Good job promoting the local mom and pop grocery. Got nothing against Walmart, but its good to see local businesses making a go of it.
no thanks to Biden and Harris
I haven’t spent money in a Walmart in 20 years 😂
I love to see dead lines come back to life. I would love to see more great stories like this. The more short lines coming back to life the better 😊

Great job on everything. I like seeing the back roads and towns along an old railroad line. Happy to see it used again.
Lovely to see dash 8s still working. Always wonderful to hear when an old branch line comes back to life.

Can someone explain to me, that if this is the first train in years, how long were those empties and loads waiting to be picked up?
Our local general grocery closed in 2017 or 18 and now the family leases the building to dollar general 😐
So many waves in those rails I had to take a dramamine
So did Jensen. 😂
Are those old rails rated for those engines? As far as weight...I'm talking about the rickety jointed sections. Great vid.

The railroad had no trains running for 16 years?
Seems like a loss to move just 8 cars 60 miles
Why so much power for a small run??
They have some pretty steep grades on this line.
And I didn’t want to run long forward for 70 miles, and breath diesel exhaust
Grades and distance
2 B40-8s seems like too much horsepower for 8 cars
I didn’t want to run long hood forward for 70 miles
