So I am signed up with too lost as an artist and record label. Just started releasing mine and a couple other friends music that I produce for. We’re basically staring over from scratch because we’ve done things not really the right way for many years. I’ve learned a ton over the last year or two from you and plan to implement a lot of it. But for the beats they don’t use I post them to TH-cam trying to drive traffic to my beatstars. How would I monetize those ones? Release thru too lost to you tube and then post to beat stars on the day of release? This is something I’ve always been somewhat confused on for the production side of things.
@@MountainSideProductionzI would use distribution to upload beats as instrumental series, not as traffic to Beatstars. No contentId either unless they’re exclusive to the platforms. IMO
I might have a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway :) Why should I choose either adver, haawk or toolost over distrokid? Any advantages? Also, toolost seems to not be free as per TCs, just saying- dont wanna be a smart ass, but I think its worth knowing. Greetings.
Pain1, I appreciate your content SO much. I’ve been making beats for years and really was hesitant to set up shop. So your videos keep me informed and keep me going bro. Forever grateful I just started really applying the knowledge you and a few others post and I’m beyond excited to see how this year and years to come evolve🔥🙌
Hey plugplaybeats. Have you started yet? If so, how’s it been going? I have over 40 beats just sitting on my computer. Trying to get the information together to finally open a store and sell my beats as we speak. Just curious how it’s been going for you.
Yo this was a great video, props to Kloudine for droppin gems. I saw the thumbnail and thought I was finally getting a book recommendation lol. I even enhanced the photo like CSI. Got me going down a Copyright book rabbit-hole, so it worked out in the end. The behind the back shot at your cat was magnificent. If you grab an SM7B the pattern on that mic will cancel out the background. So far this has been my favourite episode.
Listen God gave you that gift and if that’s part of your life I been playing music for 30 years every Sunday. I got so many beats and songs it’s part of your life so anybody that’s a producer that’s quitting they’re not really producers producers don’t quit.
Seems to me if they just had a multiple choice question on the DSPs asking if the beat is original, leased, purchased exclusively, or a rights buy out; that a lot of this could probably be avoided just by the one multiple question on DSPs.
It could help a LOT, but also, people lie and/or don’t even understand what a lease is. Even if a beat is bought exclusively, that doesn’t mean they own its copyrights
I don't think its easy to make a living only selling beats. Not to be a downer but my experience selling beats was never super great, I would sell 2-5 beats a month and i was consistently posting...idk maybe i suck BUT the feedback i got would lead me to believe other wise plus i was getting a lot of people downloading beats for free on top of sales so i know they cant be terrible however it jus never took off for me even after about 2 years of grinding. I eventually found other career opportunities in IT and contracting which i had to focus on and stopped making beats for about a year and some change. Now I'm getting back into it but this time with no expectations...I'm just going to post what I like regardless of the results, Il still try to post consistently though and we will see how it goes, if it goes no where oh well...
I'm still new to this so I have a question, do these content ID issues also take place when you upload your beats to Spotify, Apple, Tidal, etc. or only when you content ID on TH-cam? I want to upload my beats to all platforms possible, but also sell on beatstars. My music is all original, no loops, so I want to protect it, but I want to make available to sell as well. I already have copyrights so I'm good there, but content ID is my next thing.
well i'ma tell you right now i have no idea how people are saying its dead when i'm out here looking for trap drum loops only that are royalty free and can't find a single pack i googled, youtubed, went on beatstars, and all these packs have one shots or midi files but i want like 100 premade drum loops for trap or something that i can just drag and drop ain't nobody got time to be sequencing up some drums I could create some if i wanted to no problem but me being very lazy i just wanna buy some royalty free premade that i can drop in and focus more on creating my melodies, basslines, and arrangements. melodies i don't cut corners on i believe its the key to making any beat but the drums too me is not interesting to create doesn't grab my attention i'd rather off load that work.
Another revenue stream is facebook rights manager. I understand what he's saying, he's talking about haawk content id, the other one is fuga. These are third party content id systems. If you are big enough you can get access to youtube content management system. I didn't know about audiomack, i'll check them out. I am trying to get into youtube content manager to manage the content id stuff myself, it's tedious but i setup a publishing company that's already locked in all the traditional publishing places. If you know anyone who knows the answer to this question it would help a lot. If I bring my copyright from us copyright office to youtube would that get me into the youtube content manager, do I need to setup a mcn to get in? I don't even want the fuga or haawk in between me and my rights, I make all original beats, no samples, no loops high quality audio with all original compositions, arrangements, etc. If you can talk about that, that would be cool. Overall great info, thanks!
Respect ✊🏼 I make all original compositions as well, no loops. I finally got my first batch of copyrights approved so now I'm ready to put some beats out. Now I started finding out about these issues with content id, and it has me concerned about putting my music on streaming platforms like I was planning on doing. I want to be very secure with releasing these because of them being all original, but at the same time I want to be efficient for the customers that will purchase them on beatstars. So I'm conflicted. This video has been the most helpful so far, but I feel the same as far as avoiding as many middle men as possible. So far I'm thinking of content ID everything and just have artists dispute the claim, or the opposite like DJ Pain does. All advice is welcomed, trying to make the best decision based on security of my art, liberty to sell to artists, and convenience for the artists not having to deal with these issues
4:09 This is a simple fix, and I’ve said it before. Just submit your beats to content ID the moment you upload them to the Internet. Then no one who leases the beat can claim it… and YOU control what videos you clear. Boom. Problem solved. 👏
Content ID is used to protect the work of copyright holders. If you actually USE content ID, this is not a problem for you. We can’t just sit around and demand that artists not use it…YOU have to use it. That’s who it’s for!
I think you may have answered my question I asked on here 🙌🏼 so basically you content ID your beats, still sell them on beatstars and have the artists dispute the claim they may get, then you will clear it yourself and that's it?
@@JSSoundsmusic perfect, thank you! I have a quick follow up question if you don't mind bro. Do you also upload on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, etc.? And if so do you do the same concept as TH-cam? (I'm not sure if streaming services also content ID and flag content like TH-cam does)
I would love to know that company name that you can remove beats from their content ID in 5 days but I will be researching it would be nice to know the name of these companies, because all the companies mention in this video is the first time am hearing about them, apart from Beats star ID
@djpain1 This question is out of ignorance on my side, but would really need clarification on. What's the difference between a sample and a loop? For example, if I made, and composed the Bonita apple bum instrumental, and thru sample clearance, i gave q-tip the clearance to use a sample of it a an agreed percentage. And I can do the same for 100 other songs, why does thoese song dont get flagged on TH-cam etc. And why can't loops or beats we make be seen or treated similarly to sample clearance. Or am i missing something, I dont understand. 🤷🏽♂️
So do people create special licenses for people who may indeed use your beat for for TH-cam background music or podcast... I've been wondering that for a min
If you sell a beat with a splice loop for $300 but you can’t monetize it through a ContentID system that would have made you $15, how is that worthless?
