Dj Pain 1 ? I have a question. is there any such thing as in charging percentage for a beat ? like you get a certain percentage of what the beat makes.
I remember when I first went full time with beats in 2011, my ex wife was like, I miss you working at best buy, divorced her and married a singer who started leasing beats from me lol funny how life works but I encourage anyone who is truly passionate about producing to go full time and do away with people who don't support you cause plenty of people will doubt you, thanks for your videos Pain, Bless!
Your ex wasn't being malicious, she was just being realistic. I'm a electrical engineer who makes beats on the side. imagine I told my wife that in 2023, I'm quitting my profession to sell beats on Beatstars. 😂😂 With new technology in AI, the ability to charge thousands of dollars per track is coming to an end.
That is awesome! Good for you! As a music producer myself. What you said is very inspiring and very important for people into music 100%! Thank you for that! God bless you and your family! 💪🙏🎧🎼🎹🎤🎛️
I've always figured for independent artists exclusives should be in the realm of $300-1000. If the artist has a bit of a buzz and I see they actually move units and earn money off music, it's closer to the higher end of that range because I know they can afford it.
Why they are still getting the same exclusive rights as the artist with money why should they get it for cheap if they cant afford it they shouldnt buy exclusive
It's what you think your art is worth at the end of the day. I've only just started releasing beats and released my first one a few days ago. I have a few beats that I absolutely love and they have a lot of value for me. I'm set to open to offers but it would realistically take a lot to get me to allow some of my favourite beats to go on exclusive lease when I eventually release them. Not even $1000 would let me part way with certain beats. Any art is subjective and people can value their art however they see fit, and live and die by their decision. I happen to put a lot of effort into my songs, I make everything from scratch. Complexity and uniqueness has intrinsic value imo. I would also hate for someone to buy one of my favourites on exclusive and do nothing with it. The whole point of releasing music for me is that I don't want it going to waste on my hard drive.
Very informative. It’s like this: Pharrell Williams can charge 100k for a beat because he is proof of concept. For THORell Williams, nobody has ever heard of him so he has to be fair and make a price that is beneficial to both himself and the artist.
Anybody can charge 100k for anything; doesn’t mean they’ll buy it. An unsigned artist who makes $1000 a week can’t afford 100k for a beat. A lot of producers overvalue themselves and have some odd perception of rappers as having endless financial resources.
@@DJPain1 totally agree with everything you said and just because a producer has been proven doesn’t always mean the beat they are giving you is a good one
@@DJPain1 I’d say it’s far more of a self-perpetuated image by many rappers rather than an “odd perception” by a given producer or listener. that aside, I agree with what was said here altogether and the gist of the video. thanks for dissecting these topics, it’s very insightful and encouraging.
Great "solo" video. Being that it is all subjective, I like that you challenge producers to put some thought and math into the pricing of their products. 200-500 for exclusive. I say that bc when youre on a budget its kind of hard to when life is in the way to pay for a beat thats substantially more than what u pay in groceries...but at this point when u start buying you might want to LLC your name and look for business funding. When u become more established as an artist i feel about 1000 and up is substantial to buy out and exclusive bc the quality youve received from your producers, the facy they let you pay a reasonably amount of money over time you should be ok to give that up and budget how youre going to spend on marketing etc for yourself. But this is all subjective which i love bc u hear a whole bunch of perspectives
I have recently sold aa couple of exclusive beats for the price range of $250 - $300 but some of my oroducer friends said i was being too cheap ,. but personally i think it was fair imo.
I’ve seen producers selling beats for 3/100 for exclusives I block them away from me and my followers asap they all try to go after my clientele every single time a lesion I learned the hard way
break your record for getting a higher level with consistency .. if you make a really good beat and you believe in yourself ,maybe it COULD BE 800 per day after couple years !
Pricing imo on the producers end should be based off of skill, time, and demand. if you know how to make beats that keep getting positive feedback and you see a large following and you know its hot then you have got the skill. time, it takes time to make a beat and some people are skilled and could make a beat in a very short amount of time but if you are taking an hour or 3 hours and the product is good then time should also be included as well as the time it took for some producers to be able to create good work in short amount of time. demand, if you have 10-20 people hitting you up daily then you have got demand for your product and you should raise your prices to weed out the ones who can't afford it or arn't as serious. how exclusive your beats are should also depend imo on how much of it is samples vs from scratch. meaning did you have to use third party plugins to make it? and honestly right now i'm happy we havn't gotten to the point where the plugins and daw companies themselves havn't been asking for partial points for us using their technology to even create the music... which i think is coming soon.
I think artists need to understand how much money there is to be made from an exclusive purchase. Live shows, sync licensing, PRO royalties and more. One sync and the beat is paid for and then some.
@@DJPain1 I was referring to singers/rappers complaining about expensive exclusives. If they understood all the revenue streams they might be more comfortable with paying more.
Great pod pain i was negotiating with a label for my most popular beat and they wanted it for 500 even though i start from 700 for exclusive rights because I wouldn't get any credit or royalties from them 😅
I asked a Producer their price for Exclusive and they didn't want to Deal with me because I'm not a Label but I would've paid 7 to 10k at the time. I'm still confused about that.
No they don't. You are able to make millions with it, so feed the guy that made it possible in the first place. If you aren't happy with it, make your own beats. Period
I dont like the whole I charge smaller artists 100 but bigger artists 10K. When you go buy anything from a merchant you want to pay the price the guy infront of you paid. I understand inflation. I understand raising prices because of demand but charging an Indie artist 100 for a beat but you have connects to a label and you charge them 10k doesnt make sense.
If every beat i make is a 5 star steak im charging 5 star prices to everyone not just the people that can afford it. You dont like it go eat at mcdonalds @@ghost-user559
DJ PAIN 1‘s exclusive beats are very affordable. If you want it bad enough you can find the money. A producer at his level can do whatever the hell he wants.💪🏾💎💎
The reference is really important to price your beat. Maybe the kid who is selling those beats for €30 got rich parents and doesnt have the experience with the real record label. I do i must say in the past. Even rappers or people in genaral doesnt have experience and makeup prices without any reference and misuse the music industrie. €30 with exclusive rights is way too cheap for a beat. Equipment for making a beat is tagged also with a price and that could be a reference too for pricing.
It's hard to make money just making music. I definitely can't quit my day job. It's so hit or miss, and it takes a long time for projects to actually roll out. You can make something really dope, and more often than not, the artist will never even hear it because the A&R that happened to review it had bad taste. There's so, so much that is beyond the producers control. I wouldn't sell anything to anyone for $40 dollars. That is absolute chump change.
That Lexus woman kept replying to the same tweets like she was senile _and_ delusional. Although seeing how Twitter arranged the replies made _me_ feel a little confused too. Actually, $40 per track probably _is_ the maximum payout to ensure R.O.I. on an _"invite only" release._ 🙃 I wish her the best of success.
Im not selling a $1000 exclusive for $500 because i set my prices not the customers if they cant afford the lrive dont buy tbat license buy the one they can afford
It’s the right of any business to refuse service. It’s the responsibility of the buyer to ask these questions before making a purchase. For me, a lot of artists lowball and ask for exclusive rights for $100 or so. I say ‘no’ and I have every right. Or they offer me $400 for a beat that has, over the last two years, generated $10,000 and I also say ‘no.’ I will offer to make a new custom beat for them or give them a discount on the unlimited commercial rights. They have a right to say ‘no’ back to me. Nobody should have a problem with that.
Anyway, for an artist who has worked hard to build community like you have, I’d personally rather do an EP with and just have an even split. That’s just me though, but if you’re open to doing it with me, just lmk otherwise that wouldn’t be a bad idea to propose to other producers too
Wasn't the female artist he was talking about skeptical about the purchase because of the very low price for the exclusive lease the whole conversation is about what to charge
so my original question would be how could anyone possibly make any money for that price or anything basically low because of the exclusive right and i know every producer thinks every beat is 🔥 even so u would need 12000 tracks to make something
i just started my beat stores my exclusives are 1500, if your going to take my real estate i need to be compensated, my unlimiteds are 100, if i get 15 sales on one beat that 1500, come on its basic maths.
Something you must calculate is how much you'd make if you didn't let the beats go on exclusive. If you have a lot of people buying smaller limited leases, that's potentially by far more profitable when compared to $150 as a one off. I suppose it depends on how much time and effort you put into your music and what you feel your music is worth. If you're happy doing an exclusive for that price then nothing is stopping you. I suppose the only drawback I can think of is that if these people buying your beat for $150 have no following or they don't use the beat at all, you don't even have a chance at royalties. If you priced it slightly higher you might attract more intermediate rappers rather than attracting let's say the beginner type rappers. How long have you been making beats for mate? Full disclosure, I've only just started and have no idea what I'm talking about. Just stating some obvious pointers that came to mind
Production should be paid based on the budget of the project. Those who know how to do an artist budget will only pay what they can afford. Independent or major its all about the relationship, the budget, and the end goal which is sales of said product. When i was an artist i did a production deal ( I do not pay for beats ). As a producer i will just give you the beat as long as the paper work is in order. Either an artist sells music or they do not. I rather make money off of proven sales of product, then sell a beat to someone who does nothing with the art. Let it be known that i can do what ever i want with what i own. Pain 1 keep doing your thing i respect your hustle. PSA: THE MUSIC BIZ HAS ALWAYS BEEN A SCAM...... Learn to be a better scam artist.....
Why not look at how much money your best selling beat lease has made over its lifetime and use that as the gauge of what your personal exclusive price should be? At least then your price is based off of potential lost revenue.
Because if I did that, I’d be charging 50k for exclusives, and realistically, out of my 2000 beats in my catalog, only about 10 percent have sold beyond 5k each, with the highest probably generating close to 50k in leases. I’m not selling those exclusively, but that doesn’t mean the ones I’m selling exclusively should be 5k to 50k as that’s unaffordable for most humans
@@DJPain1 Indeed I think 2k to 4k for exclusive for cheapest price is fair with all the plaques and artists you worked with in a decade, basically 2k more than Stoupe

Great info
If you feel right about it, keep doing it
Happy Belated Birthday Pain
Thank you
good stuff bro
Thanks for the visit
Good take bro
Thanks for watching
Happy birthday, mane
Thank you
Great video. I interview artists who want exclusive beats. Sometimes, it’s not worth it.
2000.00 - 5000.00 which I would negotiate in some mixing come with that and depending if its a Hit track or filler track.
You make all that from an unlimited lease just the same. You gotta stop spreading these lies.
@@DJPain1 I was referring to singers/rappers complaining about expensive exclusives. If they understood all the revenue streams they might be more comfortable with paying more.
Thanks again
Happy birthday Pain!
Thank you
Great pod pain i was negotiating with a label for my most popular beat and they wanted it for 500 even though i start from 700 for exclusive rights because I wouldn't get any credit or royalties from them 😅
Yeah I’ve told people like that to fuck off many times
I asked a Producer their price for Exclusive and they didn't want to Deal with me because I'm not a Label but I would've paid 7 to 10k at the time. I'm still confused about that.
Wow 7 to 10k that's unbelievable
7 to 10 k that's understandable
Well if you need any exclusives let me know lol. Waaay cheaper than that.
❤❤❤TRUST ❤❤❤
11:25 major agreements
No they don't.
You are able to make millions with it, so feed the guy that made it possible in the first place.
If you aren't happy with it, make your own beats.
Period
I can't tell if you're just reacting to the titles and dipping out…
Sorry I'm multi tasking
I dont like the whole I charge smaller artists 100 but bigger artists 10K. When you go buy anything from a merchant you want to pay the price the guy infront of you paid. I understand inflation. I understand raising prices because of demand but charging an Indie artist 100 for a beat but you have connects to a label and you charge them 10k doesnt make sense.
You think a 5 star steak house costs the same amount as McDonald’s?
If every beat i make is a 5 star steak im charging 5 star prices to everyone not just the people that can afford it. You dont like it go eat at mcdonalds

Happy birthday 🎂 pain 😊
Thank you!
Artist Here :$500 or More for Exclusive Rights buy I think Artist need to source their Own private producer.
DJ PAIN 1‘s exclusive beats are very affordable. If you want it bad enough you can find the money. A producer at his level can do whatever the hell he wants.💪🏾💎💎

@@DJPain1 you’re welcome
Actually, $40 per track probably _is_ the maximum payout to ensure R.O.I. on an _"invite only" release._ 🙃
I wish her the best of success.
It was really creepy
Im not selling a $1000 exclusive for $500 because i set my prices not the customers if they cant afford the lrive dont buy tbat license buy the one they can afford
How about the producers who dont be wanting to sell us the exclusives !? That be pushing me in a different direction tbh
Yes?
Mfs be stealing beats
so my original question would be how could anyone possibly make any money for that price or anything basically low because of the exclusive right and i know every producer thinks every beat is 🔥 even so u would need 12000 tracks to make something
The answer is that they aren’t making a living
i just started my beat stores my exclusives are 1500, if your going to take my real estate i need to be compensated, my unlimiteds are 100, if i get 15 sales on one beat that 1500, come on its basic maths.
‘If.’ But if you don’t, then what?
So this mean am giving a way my beats i sold exclusive for 200usd and some time 150 usd and people still want a discount, am i giving away beats?
Learn to be a better scam artist.....
happy birthday
Appreciate that
if a beat is leased even once prior to being sold as exclusive then its not exclusive.
Happy Late Bday! 👍
Thank you! 😁
