    Now I've plashed the cash and bought a decent graphics card that can handle this aircraft, it makes me even more impressed at the hardware you're using for these vids. My Tornado training starts today ! Great vid, great commentary.

    Fantastic, helpful and timely video. Many thanks! With your help, I have now achieved a couple of (relatively) successful ILS approaches in the Tornado. Great stuff!

    Well that eats my lunch, my nav has never complemented me on my landings all i get is ouch and a lot of swearing. Nice video Steve you've pointed out some useful operations that I've been looking for.

    I've been trying to find a tutorial to show how to tune the Freq's in. Thank you. 👌🏻

    A good guide on the Nav' side of the Tornado.
    I will be revisiting later when I finally get to fly a sortie. I purchased 3 weeks ago, but real life and two young sons are using my valuable flying hours.

    Nice work. Not modelled, but we used to practice internal aids approaches. Enter Lat and Long of runway threshold, enter the True track of the runway approach path. Find the runway and threshold on radar (GPS helped a lot with GR4), then Track steer to give the pilot cross track range and countdown to intercept the Azimuth, and range to threshold, then give altitudes to be at based on a 3 deg glidepath...pretty easy maths, works out at 300ft per NM, so at 4NM you need to be at 1200ft above airfield. It was a nice back-up if ILS not available, or Talkdown not available or just to monitor an approach.

      Although he stopped flying GR4s about 10-12 yrs ago I'm sure my cousin will recognise this procedure.

    Great video, you can also go from any VOR/ILS freq to a tacan by minusing 106.3 and timesing it by ten. If the frequency ends in 0 its an X channel. If it ends in a 5 its a Y channel.

    New subscriber here 😁 Great videos on the Tonka! Bought it yesterday but haven’t flown it yet as I’ve been looking through the manual and watching a few YT videos. These have been superb as I’ve been concerned about navigating it. Have you done one on the autopilot/AFDS system?

    Hw did you "jump in the back" so quickly ? Using the menu/camera views is a pain. Is there a better way ?

    How do you switch between front and rear positions?
    Cheers,

      @FlywithSteve  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! On the camera menu, you'll find a co-pilot camera option in the list of views. It's not strictly a co-pilot in the Tornado, but that one will take you to the rear position.

    Hello just want to start by saying thanks the helpful video and clear presentation.
    Im just wondering if you could give me some advice on a problem I’m having,I’m very much a novice, I’ve managed to set up the tacans on the HSI but can’t get the glide slope to function, I have the HSI mode on approach1 and lakenheath tacan set so the green arrow which is correctly pointing towards lakenheath and the glide flag is present in the gauge but the glide slope bars remain fixed in the middle. Do I have to have the tacan mode on a specific setting? I’m playing on Xbox which may,I’m not sure, make it not function. Hopefully what I’ve said makes some sense.
    Just for context the bar movement that occurs between 12:26 and 13:14 is what isn’t functioning for me.

      Hi, just to check do you have the Lakenheath ILS frequency set to the Tacan equivalent, or the actual Lakenheath Tacan selected?
      If you are using the Lakenheath Tacan (which I think is 039x, but I'm away from the computer today) you won't get the ILS glideslope.

      @@FlywithSteve I have the tacan set manually on the cockpit dial. When you say ils frequency is that done is the tornado menu or can it be done in the cockpit?
      In the meantime,I’ll have a look when I’m next on and see if I can figure out what I’m missing. Thanks the reply :)
      Upon watching the video again I think I’ve figured out what I’m doing wrong, I’ll come back and confirm when I next attempt it

    • @FlywithSteve
      @FlywithSteve  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you have the glide flag present I think it means it is not receiving the glide slope information. When it picks up the glide slope that flag disappears. For Lakenheath ILS you'll want to dial in 036X on the TACAN (either through the cockpit dial or the pop-out menu). I've just had a go at an ILS approach at Lakenheath, it isn't the easiest place to practise ILS approaches as the ILS seems to be offset from the runway heading.

    shouldn't your wing sweep be 67 degrees at low level and at that speed,also did you have any problems downloading MSFS,or did you get the 10 Disc box, apparently you have to download it in the uk???

    How do you program the waypoints into the aircraft? Thanks. Got it now thanks, LNM has an export plan to msfs, this loads it onto the SIM automatically. 😊

    Hello, does the APPR mode of the autopilot work on this plane to provide (almost) auto-landing? I have the X-Trident Tornado for X-Plane and it works very nicely there. Also, how do you switch to the WSO seat without the avatar getting in the way?

    Do you do a trip where you use the approach mode of the autopilot to fly the ILs?
