Great stuff. My flying instructor when landing anywhere with reference to the numbers on the runway ‘keep looking at the numbers keep looking at the numbers’ I’m so privileged to have learned to fly to the standard I did. No jets only twin IFR but many great memories nonetheless.
Great to see you back Chris and what a sortie! I could sit and watch them for hours. Your knowledge, experience and sense of humour shining through and an infectious enthusiasm like you're having the time of your life! Well done and keep them coming.
Brilliant video as always Chris! You're not alone in having problems with the Welsh place names. When Prince William was training in Anglesey, the story goes that he wanted to know how to pronounce the name of a particular town he'd seen the signs for, Llangefni. He got his bodyguard to park in a supermarket car park there and told him to go and get a Welsh speaking person he could speak to. The minder brought a little old lady who he'd heard speaking Welsh to the Prince who asked her, "How do you pronounce the name of this place?" The little old lady looked at him and slowly, as if talking to a simpleton, said, "Home Bargains!"
Brilliant video Chris!!. What a challange haha. Love the Tornado. Such a pretty plane. Watching this was the perfect way to end my day :) Hope you're well!
One of my favorite aviation memories from when I was a kid was a Tornado seemingly out of nowhere screamed past low level right overhead while I was outside at the base of a hill in a German village. Your excellent video makes me picture what the pilot was seeing.

Great video. Could you possibly do a video on a typical training sortie out of valley in the hawk on what a typical lesson in the mid-level altitudes would be? I own a scanner and live in mid wales so I frequently listen to the air to air hawk comms during lessons, would be nice to have a visual to what they would be doing if possible.

Really enjoyed this mate very insightful! Any chance of a Tornado start up video sir when you have time? Be great to hear how you guys did it in real life.
Outstanding!! The most interesting thing I find in this video, (and many others), is the fact that you seem to have no problem changing your camera views and do it spontaneously without having had to preplan the each one! That brings me to my biggest issue with FS2020: Their lack of a quick, easy, Replay system! I was an FSX sim pilot for almost 10 years and to this day, I truly miss the ease of operating and replaying the flights that I made. I mean, I could almost instantly reply the last 5 minutes of a flight all the way through to the landing without the need to preplan my camera positions. I don't know if you've ever flown FSX but for those who haven't, the replay of the flight at any time throughout your live-flight was as simple as a click or two. Once in the "Replay Mode", you could select to replay the last 30 seconds of the flight or the last 30 minutes. In addition, even if you flew the entire flight within the cockpit, you could still select any camera position inside or outside of the plane as you ran the replay! And you could do that w/o the need to preplan the camera views or the start/stop POV sections within the replay. You could even select a spot anywhere on the ground so you could watch the flight as it passed overhead or pick a place to stand a mile away from the flight and watch the plane from a distance as it was landing or taking off. Unfortunately, ever since I had to give up FSX for Windows 10 compatibility reasons, and then begrudgingly installed MS FS2020, (which was around OCT. 2020), I've never been able to replay a single flight that I've made. Not one landing and not even any screenshots, (though it was the replaying of the flights that I was most interested in). As a result, I've found myself flying FS 2020 less and less frequently. That's because if I couldn't replay 30 to 60 seconds of my flight, (such as the landings) I really felt like I was unable to gauge my own learning curve and frankly, I felt unfulfilled. Back in late 2020 or early 2021, I tried to figure out how to replay my flights by reading the FS guides that were available. But it seemed that the only way to do that was to preplan your intended replay before you started the flight. In addition, I think I recalled that you were required to create and select the camera views that you wanted BEFORE you even started the video recording! I was a ridiculous, convoluted, orchestration of mandatory prerequisites that included activating the "Developers Tool" or some such thing. I don't know how much I remembered from what I read back then regarding the FS2020 "replay" feature but I know that it was far too complicated, much more than it needed to be. There are some developers like Parallel 42, (Chase Plane), who have a completed a "ready-to-use" freeware that offers the user a simple and easy option to replay any flight at any time, and from any camera angle, much the way FSX did. But the ASOBO developers for FS2020 will not permit them to release it for FS2020!! Why not?! What is Asobo afraid of? Well anyway, I haven't checked to see if the replay feature in MS FS2020 has been improved by Asobo but because I haven't seen anyone bring it up, I doubt they have. And that brings me back to your great video! What software are you using to get these camera views? I mean, from what I've seen, I'm guessing that you can quickly replay a landing or flight maneuver if you wanted to, on demand. Am I right or are all these camera views worked out in a pricey video software for TH-camrs? Thanks again for the video! I need to look into that Tornado aircraft ASAP! Rich

Coming from DCS I always wonder how to get into MSFS and make it interesting for me (without blowing stuff up) but I never really think of missions like this as in just having a flight, setting a location and just flying over. Checking out some POIs, landing successfully etc

Also I heard you say suckers hole, that term for a gap in stratocumulus is mentioned in my AFE PPL books :)
@@jameshewitt8828 I believe it’s usually preset but for convenience I believe this does select the speed you’re currently at. And yes, holes on clouds are always tempting! 😅
cracking Sqn colours. TABS
TABS indeed! 🦇
Coming from DCS I always wonder how to get into MSFS and make it interesting for me (without blowing stuff up) but I never really think of missions like this as in just having a flight, setting a location and just flying over. Checking out some POIs, landing successfully etc
That was what 90% of my real Tornado missions were. Granted we did dry weapon profiles occasionally but could be as simple as flying medium level Fix/Attack/Late Arm/Pickle! Job done! 😂
@@cgaviator that's a super fair point most missions are just that really. Just watched your Leeming Hawk one day I live beside there so that was cool to see.
I have a few military aircraft in msfs, dcs is just such a pain, expensive and you have to dedicate so much time to learning everything. So maybe a change of mindset to msfs and set up little missions like this
@@the15minutegamer that’s why I’m not often in DCS though I’m addicted to checking out the new modules.
@@cgaviator yeah I bought the f4 and I don't think I've used it, the Chinook I used for maybe one day I just don't have hours and hours to learn how to use it. Also troop loading looked so bad... So maybe pick up tornado today and have some fun
Ah Fairford, my local :)
Decent local!
Hi Chris! Sometimes I just watch your videos because they're interesting, I don't even have the Tornado yet! 😁 If you have time to answer, I'd be curious to know if you're using VR or not. Many thanks.
Thanks, and certainly. I use TrackIR 👍🏻
Living in West Cumbria as a kid I used to see the Tornado almost daily usually low enough to wave to the pilot! A fantastic looking jet. You're a former Tornado pilot? I have so many questions! Great video.
Yup, former GR4 pilot. They were fantastic to see at low level. And great to fly there!
Great video again thanks. But drogue connects to where my probe would be stored and not the probe when extended, is there some setting up I need to do with airshow assistant? Thanks
Yes, there’s a small icon too right of AAR page that shows you were it appears. I briefly show it in my Vulcan fuelling video. Adjust it there 👍🏻
@@cgaviator thanks again CG
Just trying to set up lots in MSFS, got the tornado now , but your website doesn't seem to be working for flight plans?
I’m slowly working it back. Should be up soon
@@cgaviator cool. I thought was just me! Was very confused.
Will you try the DCS Tornado when its released?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
wondering how youve added those weapons to your aircraft? i add the appropriate amounts into the ordinance and still none show up.
Loads as default, selectable via cockpit menu system. If you have Xbox you won’t get weapons.
Complimenti veramente bello , che GPU hai ??
Thanks, 4080 Super 👍🏻
Grazie , veramente bello . Scusa e come CPU ?
Really interesting stuff, just discovered this channel. However (!) you pronunciation of lake bah-la makes my teeth itch ! Is Bala, like in Ballet 😅
Haha, I get that a lot! Sadly that’s what we called them… acknowledging the fact the pronunciation is wrong! 😂 We’re simple folk!
@@cgaviator hah. Just pulling your leg :) love the channel. My Mum hails from Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch and i’d really love to hear you giving that one a crack on the way in to Valley !

Thanks 🙏🏻
I thought when you said "Real Tornado pilot", you meant like you chase tornados with a plane. 😅😅😅
@@SN57ONE Now there’s an idea! Let’s crank up the wind and have Tornado vs Tornado!
On the update it gets rid of the tint on the canopy
Someone said that some older tonkas had a tint. This was a GR1 in GR4 clothing.
Challenge?Try flying fromm Biggin Hill to a point East of London City Airport (aim for the wiggle in the Thames),buzz London City Airport At low level, stay low at about 350 feet, fly under tower bridge and immediately pull up into a loop which should complete by flying under London Bridge a second time, land at EGLF,CHOOSE YOUR AEROPLANE CAREFULLY..................................................I bought the farm when I tried it.........................................well,the river actually...........
Did you see my London flight in the BD5? Not above 100ft! Looping the tower bridge would be fun!
@@cgaviator I ried it again and unsurprisingly messed it up,I was on the right line but exited the loop way to high.I would be delighted to see you go for it...........
I am still having problems trying to trim the hawk to fly level flight. All I can see is aileron and rudder trim buttons. No elevator trim button. Anyone advise please ? Thanks.
Should be on the stick. It’s a sensitive model with perhaps a slow elevator trim response. I’m going to have to try it again as haven’t flown it for a while.
@cgaviator Thanks Chris. Much appreciated.
@@paull123 The Hawk tailplane trim is right on the top of the stick/control column. Ex Hawk techie.
Does this feel like it really would? Cuz everyone acts like the flying is bad in msfs and it’s more real in dcs.
Most jets are too twitchy in MSFS. Not enough inertia or too much alpha, not enough Bernoulli’s! 😅
@@cgaviator so basically nothing like the real thing?
Thanks for the vid. Sent you an email last week. Did you receive it?
Perhaps not, don’t remember one
@@cgaviator sent it to your YT email address.

I have the felling that the mach loop is the only thing we can do with this plane....at least theat is about 99% of the content with this plane.
I don’t quite follow?
@@cgaviator nah didnt mean to be rude ;) just noticed that almost everytime I see the plane on YT peoeple do the same with it. It's still interesting to watch thoug ;)
@@papacharlie2841 admittedly I do Mach loop more often than not as it was one of my favourite places to go in real life. I’ll think up a different sortie profile for sure!
