    Your work is beautiful, and it is incredible what you were able to do with this completely broken statue. I am completely impressed with your skill, and how many people you must make happy when you return a beloved statue of Jesus to them! God bless you for it.

    I saw this video already few times... I like it more and more... probably, because of the beauty of the Statue... any way. I have to tell you, it is beautiful that you always say "we did this,...we did that" not " I did..." this is a delicate attitude to ones work. Beautiful... I would like to know what kind of glue you use to put the things together.

      Hello from Canada, Sister! Thank you for your kind words. For small pieces if the plaster is not too porous, we use a gel form of super glue. But for the larger pieces which require more strength and permanency, we use epoxy glue, which comes in two parts, which must be mixed, and you only have about three minutes to use it before it starts to harden. We usually mix small batches and use the end of a Q-tip (with the cotton removed)…Or a small coffee stir stick to mix the glue and then apply it with an old disposable brush. God bless.

      @@catherinejnc you can find some "how to" videos, but our best advice is to take your time. Do it in short stretches so you can see it progress, and if necessary, make some changes along the way. Good luck!

      @@BrushworksStatueRestoration Thank you so much for the advice! I have another statue that is nearly identical. Is there a way to make a mold of the hand on the good statue to create a hand for the broken statue?

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@catherinejnc yes absolutely! You'll need to buy some supplies such as plaster and rubber moulding material. But rather than get into a lengthy chain of messages on here, you're welcome to contact us via our website ("contact us" page) and I can give you some advice on how to proceed.

    Love the work you do, very informative. I have been working on statues in my Parish and have been asked to look at a very old statue. the main body is made of wood with a fabric cape around the outside. both the wood body and fabric cape are covered in plaster and then painted. The cape over time has become loose and cracking off the plaster on one side. From what i can tell the cape is hollow inside and i was thinking of filling this void with expanding foam to give it strength. Love to know your opinion about strengthening the cape.

      Hello Priscilla! We use two-part epoxy that you mix and use right away. It hardens in 5 minutes. You can find it at most large hardware stores.
      The plaster we use is called HydroCal plaster. I hope this helps! God bless!

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Fr George and thank you! The white plaster is called HydroCal plaster, and is widely considered stronger than plaster of Paris (etc). Where a stronger bond or filler is needed, we use a product called Apoxie Sculpt. It comes in two containers and you mix equal parts. It's thick like plasticene and will start to harden in about 30 minutes, and is fully hardened in about 24 hours. It sticks to everything, and once hardened, it can be sanded, painted, even drilled! Good luck!

    I’ve watched several of your videos and find them very informative. I was wondering though why you paint the face? I do before and after scrolling and the nuances and emotions of the original painter a changed and they end up losing something. Almost like they become one dimensional. These original artists, many time Italians or Spaniards had a gift with the facial painting. I’m not coming down on your work because even fine conservationists, like a guy named Baumgartner, often times ruins religious paintings or icons with overmuch work. I know that you try to best of your ability, but just something for you to think about.

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Whenever the face's condition is conducive to maintaining the original, we try our best to do so. But most often, when dealing with statues that have been damaged, the paint worn, or as in this particular case, Jesus' nose was missing, and he had damage to His face, we do what needs to be done. In decades of restoration work, we have had nothing but the utmost in praise for our work - especially the faces which become much more sympathetic and lifelike than a vast majority of those produced decades ago. While your comment may hold true for some precious and rare hand-made statues, take a close look at the airbrush painting on most mass-produced statues and you'll agree our lead artist is incredibly gifted with micro-brushes. The beauty of her face restorations are the most common compliment she receives. When we are entrusted with a statue for restoration, we consult with the owner to make sure we understand precisely what he or she prefers. So while we don't share your opinion, we appreciate it and we thank you! God Bless.

    That's not Jesus. Jesus had copper toned skin and wool hair. It's in the bible.

    • @BrushworksStatueRestoration
      @BrushworksStatueRestoration  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, what you're referring to is numerous "visions" from Revelation and elsewhere, not physical descriptions of what Jesus looked like in person from any Evangelist who actually saw Him. There are other references to Jesus' "feet of burnished bronze," and His hair of "white, like wool," but again, these are visions and not actual physical descriptions. Hard to find images of Jesus with white hair and bronze colored feet, right? In any case, as restorers, our call is to restore the artistic expression of this particular sculptor, rather than turn it into something else. But thank you for your comment! We do appreciate it, DJ.
