  • In today's video we are exploring the limits of midsole thickness and width with two biiiig boys. We have the Hoka Bondi 8 and the New Balance More v4 battling for the title of the thickest, clumsiest, widest, plushiest shoe of the year. Which one would you try first?

Love the review, I have always wanted to like Hoka and their lineup but even with wide versions they still just aren't wide enough. New Balance wins for me, I have had all versions of the More and have really liked the way it has evolved. Love your videos, keep them coming.

I've had the Bondi 6 and 7 and for both I had to just widen the toe box a little to not get blisters on my little toes (not the only shoes I've done that with). I use the old trick with inserting a plastic zip-loc bag carefully into the toe, mostly filling it with water, closing it and putting them in the freezer for 48hrs with the heels raised, repeat if necessary. That worked a treat and never had any problems after! Yep I got a good 700km out of each, but after pushed them to over 900km using them on shorter runs and on the treadmill at the gym.

Thanks for the tip, Bondi 7 just ordered size 9 4E x wide hope this give me more room in toe, developing corn between my toe very painful , will try freezer trick, but may need to cut our side of shoe to give my little toe room in 9 D bondi 7 lol

I have the Bondi 7 and the More V3 and the fit on those is very different. The Bondi (in wide) has a bucket seat type feel, which put pressure on the outer metatarsals. The More has a very wide toe box that is great for my semi wide forefoot. Also, the Bondi always felt heavy on foot.

    • @AlexFilitti

I have the Bondi 7 and the More V3. The Bondi 7 is an awful shoe in every way. The More V3 does a better job as a recovery shoe but I have come to dislike these high foam stack height shoes in general. My next shoe will be the Puma deviate nitro 2.

I have the Bondi 8, the New Balance fresh foam more v4, and also the New Balance FuelCell Super Comp Trainer the Bondi 8 dose not last, I walk 10 + miles every day fast as I can (cant run rod and screws in right ankle) and they have the absolute most wear and are the least comfortable. I just got the New Balance FuelCell SCT so I can't say about it but the more v4 is leaps and bounds better than the Hoka at everything comfort, longevity, and breathability. now so far I am loving the new FuelCell SCT its very nice and has bounce after the squish down and I'm liking it so far!!!

Mmm, fascinating. I have been wearing Hoka starting off with the Clifton line back in 2018. Then tried the Bondi line which up until last year seemed to be rather comfortable. However, the latest Hoka Bondi 8 version did not leave up to expectations - quite painful at times after long walks. Currently researching NB, I know they have official seal of approvals from podiatrists and they are recommended especially for those with wide feet and plantar fasciitis issues which fits the bill for me, so I might give it a try this time. The only thing that put me off all these years from trying NB is the design and logo, I really do not like them, but maybe I will find something good. Comfort now more important than aesthetics.
