@EDDSkitz I used to live in Western Washington and the district different between the west side of the cascade mountain range and the eastern side with the rain and plants is extremely striking. Multicam can be used for both sides, but it fits the dryer climate and little bit better than the lush always green west side. They truly are two different worlds.

Brown dominant was used more in the north past Hue/Nhà Trang…..
      I got both of them
M81 is a larger pattern and slightly different color than the ERDL brown dominant and came into US military service in 1981.
I was issued M81 when I joined…..along with the chocolate chips and my desert cammies….the green jungle boots and 3/4 of my issued “782 gear” was from Vietnam. By the time I retired in 2015….we had advanced through so many different patterns it’s unreal.

Originally they had named it, Rangers, but later changed it to Raiders. Was Army JROTC. Black is used a lot for professional services. Whether it's EP, building or bank security... camo would look very unprofessional in those settings. I'm not knocking camo, but can you see six different "guards" kitted-out in camo in a high-security place of business, Executive Protection w/up armored Escalades, etc? They could be the best trained in the world, but it would look like they were wearing something they dragged home from a deployment. The bottom line is that body armor isn't always for outdoor or non-urban environments. (And as I mentioned above, I live in SE WI... the colors here change weekly... if I have to rattle can, I keep all the colors that might fit for that week, even winter with snow on the ground you might want half white and half dark brown to move along trees.

Those specialty patterns are only made in limited choices of materials. So even if gear manufacturers wanted to make, say a pair of gloves in MC Black, well they only have 50/50 Nyco or 100% cotton. Neither one is a choice they would make gloves in. So they only make T-shirts or pants in MC Black because that's all the material they have to choose from.
I make gear and order lots of fabric. The gear makers are beholden to the big weavers.

For Fall, I did get some simple Realtree pattern camo for hunting. It matches everything out here. And for winter, just the winter/snow Realtree cams that fit over my other hunting gear. Which works out because it covers the M81 cold weather gear too.

One of the best "camouflage" garments I have ever seen was a guy (playing paintball) who was wearing just a plain olive drab (perhaps a bit on the lighter side) sweatshirt. However, he had turned it inside out so the fuzzier part was on the outside. It took me a long time to figure out why it worked so well. Your eyes naturally want to focus on things but with that fuzzy side out, near or far, it appeared blurry being fuzzy. Your eyes just wanted to slide off it and move on to something, anything that it could lock on to. Food for thought.

It's been a camo that have never gone out of style in the punk or metal scenes, and has been so widespread that people don't automatically think I am a service member. It's also a badass looking design and the colors are some of my favorite hues and neutrals. BTW I really love my 80s Woodland that is kinda bright green.

In the community that I know of, (non-government) there is a fondness for Rhodesian brushstroke because of its historical significance and Tiger Stripe for its “Cool factor”. Some state police utilize M81 as well as some foreign entities that could one day be "peacekeepers". I've thought of the "civilian camouflage" pattern being born out of not using a pattern at all but using the appropriate shades of the base green, brown, sand and black and combining different colored components. Green carrier, sand cumberbund, black mag pouches, brown helmet etc. Even to the point of You and a buddy each buy same make/model of carrier but in different colors and then trade front panels, mix one shoulder strap of each color etc. We're really just talking about breaking up patterns at a reasonable distance and that could work and definitely be distinct upon up close inspection to allow for friendly identification.

M81 is a great choice and has worked well as camo in hunting setups. Definitely still wearing mine.

My sophomore year of high school, I was a part of a NJROTC unit whose Senior Naval Science Instruction (SNSI) was a Marine Colonel who was a Mustang. He believed in making sure that while we held to the standards of NJROTC, but pushed us harder and sought to get us to do things that would set us apart from other NJROTC units. He arranged for us to do some training evolutions with a local detachment of the Oregon Army National Guard where we got to do MILES training. In the part of Oregon we were in, it was High Desert. Everybody who showed up in camo showed up in Woodland/M81 except me. My dad had served in the military and since I was about the same size as him (if not larger) he gave me his Gulf War choco chip cammies to use. When they were dividing everybody up into the two sides, and giving out assignments, at least 4 or 5 of the ANG soldiers looked at me and went "Smart move kid."
Making a decision based upon where you're normally going to be operating is paramount. I'm in Arizona now, and am biased towards coyote/FDE. This move for your company is well appreciated, by myself, simply because it fits the mantra of always be prepared... and that includes your colourways of your equipment.
    Thank you, Lucas.

I grabbed a few old Vietnam chest rigs/ shoulder strap setup.. and they have very similar colors. They were dirt ch3ap on fl33bay, so I had to do it.
