I hate when school officials say “we don’t condone this behavior”. Look, just because it says in the school handbook that bullying isn’t allowed doesn’t mean the students actually follow it.
Exactly. This isn't the best analogy but it's like when you tell kids to be wary of strangers. You can hammer that in their heads til the end of time. That doesn't mean they're going to listen. That's why it's necessary to have real world examples and discipline otherwise, kids can think you're talking to the wind. So it kills me when schools say this but don't actually take disciplinary steps towards children that are bullies.
What annoyed me most of this episode was that Darius was genuinely sorry, even before finding out Avery didn't survive, meanwhile his classmates were probably happy about the whole ordeal. *EDIT* to clarify, my point is the sad irony that the one who repented for the crime got the whole sentence, while the ones who would do it again got away scot-free.
@@joewhitehead3 It seemed they only regretted getting caught, not that they assaulted someone who ended falling from a bridge, even if it wasn't them who pushed her. To them it's probably good there's one less 'weirdo' around and their families likely think the same too.

@@KitsunenoHibi I kinda agree on what you're saying. But at the same time, peer pressure is never an excuse to act like a monster. This makes me even more thankful for growing up in a diverse community. But kudos to the actors/actresses for portraying the realistic malicious behaviors of pre and post adolescents. I’m a teenager and I can honestly say that peer pressure is not an excuse for anything terrible, especially man-slaughter. Although I do think Darius shouldn’t have been sentenced as an adult.
Yeah but sadly new york state law considereds all hate crime as a felony. An A-1 felony (which the law counts this as because they did this because of the persons gender) can sadly get him 20 years minimum
I didn’t like his sentencing period. You could tell that he regretted his actions and was completely and utterly disgusted with the outcome. There were a few episodes in the show where the judge took of the original sentencing to men who raped and killed women because they seen “full remorse and misunderstanding.” When they really had none and they were full grown adults, he’s a kid who made a mistake, a terrible one and he should have been punished but not that severely.
@@staryoho2441 i agree but if the judge has to account the ramifications for events like this, if the judge does lower the punishment then the LGBTQ community can see this as someone getting away with a hate crime against a trans person, which will spark outrage, and if he doesn't lower it then he is just feeding the endless circle that happens in the prison system where people who shouldnt go to jail are put to jail where they need to rely on more crime to survive, and regarding the feeling guilty part, its hard to tell who really feels guilt or who is just faking it, if one who is faking it get away, it ruins it for everyone who does. They did another episode that is kinda like what im talking about where a Hispanic kid (i think, been a while since i saw the episode) shoots and kills a black girl but he felt extreme guilt, they lowered the charges but the african American community saw as the law not caring for black people again and in the end another black kid (around the same age of the hispanic kid) shot and killed him.

@Osman Yousif well yeah, of course they did, they tend to attack others who are different or mysterious in any other way, just to try and send a, wrongful, hurtful message to them and no it is certainly not OK or alright at all, that is not an....never!,the proper way,on how kids in general, are supposed to behave. Or acted. I wouldn't care if they are just kids or not. That's a totally misguided, pathetic Fu**ked up excuse that no one should not have to tolerate towards anyone at all . If you have kids of your own , and if your kids hurt their kids out of anger or out of, fun or entertainment.....then they are just as much guiltier as their kids, are on raising them, with that type of unacceptable, manner. Most parents are stupidly, carelessly, disgracefully, eager enough to continue on teaching their kids, the wrongful views as a parent...an yeah they are kids but, the fact is.... they all are far more older enough to know better then that, and absolutely now right from wrong to have common sense of a subconscious mindset. No excuse for that.if you hurt someone's child You!.....and your family members that raised You!! to act on those violent encounters!...... then you, are mostly far more criminally responsible as the parents are included... It does not matter. However, if you break ,the ice you'll be paying the bloody price.... Meaning...... if you do the crime you'll be doing the time, which means everything you love, every thing, you own ,everything!......will be taken away from you, cause you'll have to pay for the consequences of your actions and then you would have to spend all your time, thinking about, how much, forgiveness you'll need gain from the victims you've brutally murdered,or wronged out of regards. An not only that you'll have to think about how much you've repeatedly Fu**ked up failed your self... And then have your family an friends be ashamed of you too... So you can apologize. . all you want, but if you still committed the crime if you still broken the law, then you will still have pay for the time for, everything you've done.... This episode was painful to watch. Shame on students posting it on Facebook. Darius chose to assault Avery. I didn't think he should be charged for murder because it was an accident. He was genuinely sorry. Avery forgave him.
This is why we need better education. Better understanding. People, especially kids, make fun of and are scared of what they don't understand. When kids understand, we have acceptance. Darrius in this episode showed true remorse. It doesn't make what he did right and he should be punished for it, but sentencing him as an adult to make an example out of him wasn't the way to go. Juvenile Hall is a thing, he needed to learn a lesson as a child who makes mistakes and wasn't taught understanding. His so called friends though? It's shown by their parents that since they have no understanding and care for differences like that, their kids won't either. Those kids can't be taught differently because of how their parents feel toward trans-folk. That it's strange and weird. And that it's okay to make fun of strange and weird. Disgusting display of parenting.
One other fact to think about here, I think, is; that he needed to be sentence for the fact that he is a creditable threat to society. If his developing brain led him to those actions, he (as well as his friends) must be rehabilitated. As to make sure they understand well their actions and how they were unacceptable before they are let back into society. Sending him to juvie with follow ups is acceptable, but jail could end up being too much. Time really is the ultimate teller u, and how long rehabilitation for them can take

I'm still confused on why I'm supposed to care about the kid who got sent to jail. He outright chose to bully him and was even the first to touch him. He got what he deserved and should've gotten more.
He was a good kid who simply made a terrible mistake, he was only 15, still a kid who still had some maturing to do, yeah he deserved prison time but he also deserved a second chance due to his age, we all make mistakes and we all deserve to learn from them and to never make them again
Fr and I'm tired of people saying "but hes a good kid he just made a mistake" like that's suppose to solve anything. He couldve been Jesus in the flesh and i would still want him to rot in jail for what he did to that girl
@@okaysoanyways2645 I'm just saying his sentence was enough, he didn't need any more time added to what he got, he wasn't a repeat offender he was just a 15 year old boy, I believe when teenagers commit crimes they shouldn't have lengthy prison sentences unless it's first degree murder or a rape, him killing Avery was an accident and seven years seemed to be enough as he would be 22 when he gets out in another words his life wasn't taken away, again seeing how good of a kid he was I'm pretty sure he would've stayed outta trouble once he got out
The bystander effect, or bystander apathy, is a social psychological phenomenon in which individuals are less likely to offer help to a victim when other people are present. The greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that one of them will help.

As a trans-woman of color it’s sad to say that my life expectancy is only 35 years old. I live my life tiptoeing around, trying to not be harassed or even murdered. In my freshman year of high school, I was assaulted two times in school. I even had a boy who tried to pursue a sexual relationship with me, threatened to murder me if I told anyone we had been together. In my mind the only way to extend my life expectancy is to higher my level in Society. Whether that be by fame or and or money.

He wouldn’t have had to push the girl if they all left her alone in the first place he can’t make excuses if someone did that to you or someone you loved you would expect the killer to be punished whether it was an adult or a teenager they harassed her
We all think that Darius did it, and a here’s some few things, the three kids saw Avery Parker, Darius tried to touch her dress but Avery didn’t like that, Avery told Keon to get away from him, she hit her, Darius’s sister told him that they’re getting in trouble but Avery is not getting in trouble, and Darius wouldn’t give Avery her camera back and pushed her off a bridge. The bridge is about 60 feet tall. There were three separate cell phone videos in Central Park, New York. And Keon, Marcus and Darius (in New York) needed to come with the cops for teasing Avery, so they had to take Keon and Marcus away from school and their teacher walked with Keon and Williams and Darius drew and apology for pushing Avery off a bridge and the detectives found him, and he walk with the cops to make this easy. Keon said it wasn’t his fault. His mom told a detective to talk his parents but they were in the hospital. The cop said Marcus Green pushed her off a bridge but he said he didn’t do it, so Keon and Marcus were the ones that didn’t push Avery off a bridge. Darius was the one who pushed Avery off a bridge. He was sorry for pushing Avery off a bridge. Three of them went to church, but Avery went to the hospital and did great. Six boys had their numbers held up a bit with number six leading and Avery said numbers 1, 3 and 4, the ones that teased her. Darius left the house and came with the detectives later on. We though Darius was a good boy, but he is in the court room and he went to prison until his 18th birthday after going to the court room.
Yeah the other two didn't seem like they had as bright of futures as Darius and it didn't seem right that he was the one who had the most to do with Avery's death
In the end I honestly think Darius got a slap on the wrist, he was 15 and got a 7 year sentence meaning he'd be out at 22, so his life wasn't over, of course it means he'd have to grow up in prison but it's not like he got a long sentence in which he was gonna get out as a grown man with his future gone, he'll get out an age where he can finish his education and still have a family, but more importantly he hopefully learned from his mistake so he wouldn't end up back in jail🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

Darius going to prison at the end was sad, but just. He could've gone home, drew a damn comic or done his hw, but instead he taunted a trans kid for what? Wearing a skirt? Just because Darius was genuinely emotional and felt guilty over what he did does NOT mean that he didn’t deserve his punishment. I’m sure there are plenty of real life murderers who now feel remorse for what they did but that doesn’t mean they should be released from prison. *And before anyone says the basic “this isn’t real” comment, I am aware. However this show and the events on it are not far from reality and stuff like this DOES happen in real life.
0:50 The female student was upset and being defensive when the detectives scold her for recording Avery being assaulted. I remember this episode and hated how it ended. From a race that was once persecuted and treated as second class citizens Im shocked how majority of everyone on the bridge edging the kids on to hurt that kid were black but what I hated most was how the kid who was genuinely sorry has his life ruined.
It’s just like my uncle said: if you’re gonna get arrested, for the love of God don’t get arrested for something controversial because you’re gonna get railroaded to send a message.
The way the first mom reacted makes me think that she probably also had something to do with why her son was rude Also does anyone know what episode this one was
It's obvious in where her son learned that type of behavior. She literally blamed Avery for wearing a skirt and saying that Avery is a boy, not a girl. which shows that she is transphobic. And because of that hatred, her son learned to be like her. Like look at the look in her eyes too, she has no remorse or feels bad that her son and the other boys were attacking avery. It's like she's secretly proud for what he did 😞
Joe Whitehead really? Have you seen the episode? Do you see how the girl who recorded it reacted when they asked her about it? Egging them on? That’s not hate to you?
TurtleKing777 I get all that. But they’re just teenagers who barely understand how serious this stuff is & how it has consequences. Plus don’t you remember the testimony from that doctor in this episode?
Joe Whitehead I don’t think Darius should have gotten 15 years, however we are constant making excuses for teenagers who do permanent damage to each other. How many more kids have to kill themselves before we start actually holding them accountable. And honestly they know exactly what they are doing, why do you think each of them kept making excuses and even that one boys mother even said “you should talk to his parents” not only proving that her son learned transphobia and hate from her but that it wasn’t going to stop
TurtleKing777 To me though, it seems more like ignorance & poor judgement than phobia & hate. None of those kids, or even the parents, have ever been exposed trans persons. But kids definitely do need to be thoroughly taught that are consequences to serious actions. Besides, it’s pretty easy to tell that Darius didn’t gate Avery

Those 2 should have been given a longer sentence then darius. And now are those 2 are probably gonna do it again
Kou I dunno if happy is the right word. & their sentence was light cus they weren’t the ones pushed Avery

I love how Carisi lays into the kid and his mother during his interrogation.

And I mean everything!... basically.

In this episode my emotions were on both party’s I felt like crying for Avery and McCoy

GODAMNIT! THE ONE GOOD KID WHOS TRYIN TO DO GOOD?!?!?!
Yeah the other two didn't seem like they had as bright of futures as Darius and it didn't seem right that he was the one who had the most to do with Avery's death
This was a sad ep
Definitely.
BrickStudios 105 what was it called
@@hannahoued6143 Transgender Bridge
for sure
Am I the only one who thought Keon's mom was played by Tiffany Haddish at first glance😂😂😂
What pissed me off about this episode when I first watched it was how everyone was acting like a boy dressing like a girl was more of a crime than kids pushing a HUMAN being off a bridge I can’t remember the ending but I hope they all did get charged
Only one of them Darius I guess 😢😮 the one who pushed him off the bridge everyone else got off easy I guess because they didn't do the crime I guess unfortunately
Why do all the transgender victims die in SVU post Stabler seasons? Can’t we have one episode where they live?
I do not get why people are saying that Children who committed murder should not be trial as adults but for me it reasonable as a kid myself it is important to teach and punish them accordingly especially for killing so someone. I hate the reasoning of he was just a kid, so what- she was still just a kid aswell
I believe it depends on the situation everything must be thoroughly investigated before making those type of decisions
@@Waffles705 yeah and with my knowledge of what happened they killed someone and should be trialed as an adult
@@arachin6571 He pushed Avery which made her trip on her heel and she ended up falling off the bridge I doubt he had the intention of committing murder at the age of 15
@@Waffles705 but they did have the intention of hurting her
And of my knowledge that right there could be I tried of murder .
Think about it like this some dudes decided to beat up a kid they just wanted to hurt him but didn't want him dead he died anyways
@@Waffles705 and in cases I've watched most of the serial killers I've seen documentaries on they killed someone didn't mean and didn't get charge for it they end of being killer cause they didn't get arrested or they didn't have any consequences the two boys there are living proof that they should be trialed as adults they didn't even feel the slightest guilt when they heard she was in the hospital they hand the understanding to run away from the scene too
This episode broke my heart. The transgender kid and his parents forgave the boy who pushed him. The boy was beyond remorseful. He still got taken away.
"I'm sorry" doesn't change the fact she's dead.
That Avery boy was really sweet. He was doing the BOY GEORGE thing.
He could have started his own CULTURE CLUB.
This episode really broke my heart.
if i was on the show i would say but judge what about his sister who will look after his sister while his mom at work
This is very real in the black community and it’s sad. They blamed the victim and acted like their children were justified in their actions.
Dionte Brown Which is ironic considering how people in the black community have been treated
Exactly 😢😮 but they be the same one saying black lives matter for the fun of probably after the fact when they refused to help before it's like what's the point of all that having witnesses and all who's not gonna help I guess tbh
Kids don't fear authority anymore.
Fool Slayer When did they ever?
@@joewhitehead3 if Robert Sandifer had, he probably wouldn't have been gunned down at age 11

Hiro 928, 1:30: Teacher: “All right, quiet. Keon Williams and Marcus Green, come with me.” Marcus Green: “Why?”. Keon Williams: “We didn’t do nothing. Teacher again: “Now.” That could be what Keon said but it’s not “didn do nufin”, it’s “We didn’t do nothing”.
Such a great show
This episode is so sad but this shouldn't happen to anyone who's transgender or who is LGBTQ
Darius going to prison at the end was sad, but just.
He could've gone home, drew a damn comic or done his hw, but instead he taunted a trans kid for what? Wearing a skirt? If he had gone home that day, he wouldn't be in prison and Avery would still be alive. He's 14. You know not to play with a gun cuz someone could end up dead.
Even still ,they had no ,absolute right to humiliate some one like that.It doe's, not matter ,how freaked out or intimidated you get, besides that's someone else's kid that you hurt.... An if you hurt their kid then, they are more then likely willing to hurt you as well too.
The only rights anyone that has are the ones they make or take for themselves.
if i ever see anyone attacking a transgender like that, i will make them cry.
At least one of them admitted the truth.
The female is not the only one who deserves the scolding, but the people who watched the transgender get assaulted.
The people, including the female student wouldn’t get scolding if they have defended Avery. It’s possible that they could be hypocritical and narcissistic.
Grandma FTW!
This episode sheds light in the ignorance that still lingers in the black community about the LGBTQ community 💯
@Trinity Gilreath okay but its still true. you just said "most" not all 🙄
Darius made a mistake that he was genuinely sorry for! That judge really thought that a 7 year sentence for a young kid was the proper action?
Joe Whitehead The kid died. he deserved his punishment.
babytooty04 And ruin his future? Do you know how hard it is to get back on track in life after prison!? And im not saying that he shouldn't be punished, im just saying his sentence could be reduced by a lot
It doesn't matter he wasn't sorry while he was doing it. Don't do the crime if u can't take the punishment
If that was your kid that died, would you only want him to spend 7 years while you’ll never see your kid again?
Yeah it was a hard episode but the moment he pushed the kid over the bridge, his fate was sealed and he was in the wrong there. He deserved it and if this happened in real life, hopefully the person would learn that there are consequences for your actions.
i like watching lawnd order:)
This is one of the few episodes that makes lose faith in humanity, yes justice has been done but everyone else brushed his death like it was nothing.
I think don’t get arrested at all is better
The way the first mom reacted makes me think that she probably also had something to do with why her son was rude
Also does anyone know what episode this one was
17x02
It's obvious in where her son learned that type of behavior. She literally blamed Avery for wearing a skirt and saying that Avery is a boy, not a girl. which shows that she is transphobic. And because of that hatred, her son learned to be like her. Like look at the look in her eyes too, she has no remorse or feels bad that her son and the other boys were attacking avery. It's like she's secretly proud for what he did 😞
Did y’all forget this is a tv show, their actors calm down.
That’s what you get for committing a hate crime.
TurtleKing777 But they didn’t actually hate Avery though
What episode and season is this in?
17x2 "Transgender Bridge"
This is just like the X-men. People hate those who are different from them.
toomanyaccounts Okay, I’m pretty sure just about everything you said is completely wrong
One of the things I hated the most about this episode was hey remind me how much I hate bullies it is a shame what they did to that kid for no reason and if you ask me they all should have went to jail not just Darius
But the others didn’t cause Avery to fall off the bridge
@@joewhitehead3 I understand what you’re saying but the other two were the one that came at Avery face and punch him for no reason and that’s the part that really pissed me off and then they wanted to play the victim saying that it was Avery when he was only minding his own business my honest opinion
My best friend’s brother is transgender and I love him as much as I love my BFF
