    As someone who was convicted for drug driving I can happily say that it was the wake up call that I needed. I've been sober since my conviction and wouldn't dream of getting myself in that kind of situation again. It ruined my work life, my social life and stopped me from doing so many things in that one year period. Then I realised that it could have been me causing a fatal collision, truly mad how substance abuse can narrow your view of the world and make you the most selfish person alive.

Speaking from experience, of course.

      @@jamie3356 fair enough, I take your point. All I’m saying is it’s not as dangerous as they make out for *some* drugs, and yes that doesn’t make it ok for every drug. When I smoked weed every day as you may or may not know you get a tolerance, there have been studies done that proved your reaction time loss is negligible with a tolerance but they go after you as if you’re drinking 10 pints and coming out the pub. When the legal limit for cannabis was introduced they were recommended a limit by the experts and they said nah half of that will do. They were recommended to lower the alcohol one at the same time and again, nah that will do. Because they all do it. I was up in court even with a prescription, got off and decided to stop smoking just too much hassle. To be fair that’s been really good(😂) and I won’t go back, but I think there’s a point in there somewhere. It’s okay for them to do what they do but anyone else take them to the cleaners.

    In late 93 I was riding home after finishing my late shift at 2am, I was stationary at a set of lights just 150 feet from my work exit. I was hit from behind by a Drunk Driver at an estimate of 40mph. I was thrown to the otherside of the road on the pavement, the driver stopped walked back to me and left the scene. I spent 8 months in hospital and the next 2 years having operations. They caught him, a young male 24 years, the court case lasted 9 days and he was found guilty. At no point did he enquire how I was, my injuries were given in the report at court and read out, witness's at the scene said he walked over to me and looked and left. He was given a 2 year ban, a 2K fine + costs, I had life changing injuries, pain and mobility issues. It sickens me to see the victim played, as far as I am concerned the punishment does not go far enough. ~trooper

I forgot to put it away one time and so it was standing on my drive, I had drank 2 x Vodka and coke, I was not even a bit tipsy, I felt zero effect from the alcohol. I went to put the car away into the garage and was shocked when the drivers side mirror clipped the garage door, I reversed and tried a correction and again I hit the garage door post, took me three attempts to get the car square into the garage. You may think the alcohol is not effecting your judgement but it most certainly will, I was shocked at how much it affected mine and I was driving 10 feet from a drive into a garage at 1 mph, anyone who takes a car onto the public road after a drink is deluded if they think it's not dangerous, Don't even think about doing it.

My dad lost his life in an RTA and unfortunately so did the driver of the other vehicle, after the police had done investigating it turned out the other driver had left a pub only 15mins before the collision. 🙏 25yrs and i still miss him.

    To many times we see the courts letting drink drivers of when they plead hardship if they lose their licence. Tough, suck it up and deal with the consequences. 🇬🇧

    • @damionlee7658
      @damionlee7658 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      They need to get rid of that ability to plead exceptional hardship BS completely.
      If losing their license would cause exceptional hardship for them or people dependent on them, they should be extra motivated to treat their license like the precious document it is. People need to know that their actions will have consequences, and that they won't get to turn on the water works to keep a driving license they absolutely do not deserve. The legal system needs to stop putting everybody else in danger so that somebody who doesn't give two hoots about other people can keep driving.

      @@likhwadube5937 "Drink drivers get a ban ALWAYS"
      You're living in a land of unicorns and make believe it you think your statement is remotely accurate. There are many legal firms that specialise in (and are very publicly proud of) helping drink and drug driving offenders keep their license.
      It isn't called exceptional hardship when dealing with drink driving, but among the list of mitigating factors which may allow a person found guilty of drink driving to keep their license, is if they are the sole licensed driver for their family. (You may notice how banning that driver might suggest causing exceptional hardship for that family... A rose by any other name.)

      @@FordnanYeah it is technically illegal, but pragmatically it's not even in the same league as drink driving because you're only putting your own life at risk, nobody else's.
      Also you need to be sober enough to balance, if you're too drunk you'll fall off in the first 15 yards, if you make it past that you'll probably be sober enough to get home. 10mph on a bike is a lot less dangerous to yourself than a car capable of doing over 100. Probably still a recipe for disaster if your route entails a steep downhill though.
      Not encouraging it but as public transport is useless and taxis can be a nightmare, if you're getting desperate definitely choose a pedal bike over a car.
