When I was a kid back in the seventies I use to walk miles in the desert with flower pots try trying to find these cactus transplanting them then our step father would give me and my sis our allowance.. I had no idea what they were for I thought pretty on people's desk or cactus garden. Now I know better. I feel so used thinking back on it I should have gotten a bigger cut.

@@Peyote1312 In his defense, he was a kid and didn't know better, it was the 70's... I believe they weren't yet endangered, plus they're only endangered in the wild, it's not like they can't be reestablished/incorporated back into nature. However, I do agree that they should be left alone, I certainly wouldn't touch them, if I wanted one I'd just buy some from a nursery or grow from seed. Disclaimer... its illegal to grow or possess them in the United States if you're not a member of the Native American church that use them in ceremony.
The government in New Mexico has decriminalized all religious use of mushrooms, Peyote, and San Pedro, but I have been involved with the Native American Church since 2004,.. now I am an active member, and aiming to start a church dedicated to the sacrament Peyote. There are many Peyote's that we use, not just the ones in the books... Even San Pedro is referred to as Peyote in Mexico where Peyote was founded! some of them even have MDA "ecstacy" naturally occurring in them. Those ones are even more valued by the shaman and very hard to find, if you are looking for them. Funny, this cactus was given to babies who were colic, and they chewed on it like a piece of candy. They taste like a green apple and make you feel all of the love in the universe wrap around you like a soft cozy blanket! We all know this species of cactus M. Wrightii... The berries taste like kiwi and strawberry and are very warming to the spirit as well. Do you have any M.Wrightii in your collection, or is it just too easy to grow for you? Your lophophora is beautiful, i have a few ones in bloom too, this beautiful cacti is not only use for the native americas, it is also use today in various other tribes in México such as the Wixarika, from San Luis Potosi, Queretaro and Oaxaca in México, from where is native the beautifull peyote, Cheers :)

It's abuse when someone just eats a cactus When it's used in a ceremony it's sacred Thats gotta be the most silly thing I've ever heard. I can't wait to grow this and cherish it for years
Yeah eating peyote to trip is straight up disrespectful, but honestly nobody is doing that these days anyways (I hope) since they've all been poached :(. A strong pachanoi or a good bolivian torch will be nearly as potent as peyote and they're fast growing common cacti. You gotta puke up a bunch of cactus no matter which way you take it unless you get lab made mescaline or do an extraction. I want to get ahold of a button and start grafting them to pachanois for preservation. They're also just beautiful cactus. Mescaline is a really special psychedelic, it has strong empathogenic effects compared to any other psychedelics and makes you appreciate the world, its psychedelic cactus MDMA. A mild mescaline trip is what formed my love for cacti and succulents.
@@McFwoupson I have a nice 3 year old button now. And a cool trichocereus bridgesii monstrose with a happy little pup on it. A whole bunch of little seedlings some regular williamsii and caespitosa. One caespitosa grafted onto a pereskiopsis. I dont think Id ever eat a peyote though its just waste of love, effort and beautiful plant. Ill stick to doing acid base extractions from pachanoi and bridgesii from a source of mescaline. My point about declaring something abuse just because you're not the right religion to experience the 'medicine' still stands though. That's just asinine.
@@DIGITALVHS Yeah you don't need to be native american to take mescaline. I got ahold of pure lab made mescaline hcl recently which I'm excited to try. Idk how somebody could even abuse mescaline it's just not prominent, also psychedelic tolerance. Also that's really awesome dude I aspire to have that haha. I want to grow some williamsii from seed and graft them to pachanoi. I'm going to be germinating seeds several strains of trichocereus (mostly pachanoi) along with bolivian torch. Got 100 echinocereus reichanbacha seedlings planted indivually right now, lovely little puffball cactus with a beautiful purple flower but the flowers only last for a day.

Very nice ! I have different lophophora, around 12 of them. However, they are nowhere near as big as the one in this video. Mine are about 8 years old now. Do you put them outside in the summer? I do, but ive learned the hard way that birds love to peck on them, i lost a few this way and most are damaged by now because of beak sized holes. I am now looking around a bit for inspiration on how to create a natural looking creation in pots.

I have many succulents and hungry rodents. I protect them with wire screen covers, made out of 1/2” “hardware cloth”. It’s a US term for galvanized wire screen with spacing of 1/2 inch. 1/4” is available too.

To both of you: I have more than a 100 Lophophora now and some are more than 3 inches wide by now. And i also have been blessed with new seeds, some of the cacti flower a lot, multiple times a year.

Desert Plants of Avalon I'll have to do a little research into where it's legal and illegal to own them here. A friend of mine from Arizona says they grow wild all over Patagonia area down there.
hi i just got a button that is 2 years old and is about 5and a half centimeters big im wondering what size pot i should put it in and if regular cactus mix a bit of potting mix and lots of per-lite will be ok till i can make a proper mix

So happy you love the Peyote collection :-D The white spots could be a few things, sometimes these plants will scab with light damage but but could also be insect damage or scale insect, or mealy bug it can be difficult to say, it would be best to really examine them under a magnifying glass to check that they are not insect pests, as pests can be very small and hide in between the white fluffy parts of these cacti, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a wonderful Wednesday today XXXXX

Hi Lyne thanks so much for your videos. I purchased my first loph yesterday which is a BEAST. Lots and lots of pups. I'm just not sure where to keep it. It's summer here in Sydney, Aus right now so averaging about 25-35 celsius. Would this be okay for indirect sunlight? Are they sensitive to direct sunlight? I will be watering about once a week... is that enough? So many questions! Thanks for all your good work. Jordi.
Hi Jordan :-D well done on purchasing your first Loph they are AMAZING plant to grow :-D the good news is these plants can take a lot of heat and strong sunlight so you will be absolutely fine growing these plants in strong sunshine and watering once a week in hot weather during the Spring and Summer is perfect for these plants, but make sure you let the soil dry out completely in between watering's, and keep them totally dry during the fall/ Autumn and Winter :-D but during the Spring and Summer lots of sunshine is PERFECT for them :-D and WOW with lots of pups I bet your Loph is a beauty :-D thanks so much for watching and sending tons of love an dhappy growing from Ireland to Australia XXXX
Hi there :-D I always prefer to leave the pups on the Mother plant as it can be difficult to re root the pups once removed as these cacti have deep root tubers, sometimes the only way to get the pups to grow is to graft them onto a root stock of another cactus, personally I would leave them on if you can, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Thursday XXXX
To re root your pups just wait for spring and when they blow up after a couple of waterings you can cut the pups away with a bit of root stem and let them dry out for a week and plant them shallow when the scar tissue has formed... you can also try graft your pups to faster growing cacti that's I just tried with 1 of my peyote pups it seems basic and I have many prickly pear clones to graft to... otherwise its not to hard cacti are very strong... you will have to re pot the mother cactus and also if you graft you can also re pot the graft root and grow more pups or even graft the root and grow up to several pups at one go...

I'm worried!!! My button is turning a little yellow and it's starting to shrivel a tad bit around a blemish from growth what should I do it's only the beginning stages but I would hate to see it get worse!

Hi :-D yes if your Lophophora's are very small in the young seedling stage ( less than 1 cm wide ) I would still continue to give them a bit of water every time the soil has totally dried out in the pots, and keep them at a minimum temperature of 12-15 C / 55-60F, but if they are larger than this and its Autumn /Winter now where you are living, then I would keep them totally dry with no watering at all now until the Spring time, as these cacti like a cool and dry overwintering rest period

I live in Taiwan but hail from the states. I bought one along with a bunch of other succulents at the farmers market. Do you ever fertilise it? I'm worried about it since mine is in a little Bonsai pot.

Hi James :-D these plants can take below freezing if kept completely dry and in a dry climate but if growing these plants in northern hemispheres where the air humidity is higher they are best kept dry over winter and ideally at no lower temperature than 2c, thanks so much for watching XXXXX

Hi there :-D I am not sure if you can grow them without roots if they lose their roots but you can graft them onto other types of cacti to speed their growth, I have not grafted any plants myself though and would not be the best one to advise you on it, thanks so much for watching and good luck with growing your plants XXXX

+Natalia Croxton Hi Natalia :-) Thats brilliant news you live in the UK, there will be no problems sending to the UK at all, but the seedling peyotes won't be ready for me to pot on yet though for a good many months as they are still so small and very slow growing, and the flowers don't produce fruit and seeds until a few weeks/ months after, so it could be the late Autumn or later until they would be ready to post to you, but you would be more than welcome if you can wait that long LOL! I found them in a shop north of Stockholm and the plantshop boss hade no idéa of what it was...I laught inside! ;-) He sold each plant for £1,5...very "sheep" indeed... I took two... Are you serious. They are not illegal in NI. I've had them for years and always thought they where illegal here. Can you tell me where I would find information on this. As I was always informed it was illegal. Mine flower all the time and are at least 16 years old. double flowers come out after they get to a certain age. Please let me know where I can find more information on this in Northern Ireland

@@NorthernIrelandFishingReports Yes haha its certainly a challenge growing these plants here haha :-D but I love the challenge more of growing them here as its part of the fun haha :-D when I lived in England the weather was drier and then I moved to Sligo in the South of Ireland and OMG what a shock haha it rained EVERY day and hardly saw the sun haha, I lived there 6 years and amazingly the plants still flowered and did ok, but when I moved to the East coast to Wexford and then Waterford it was much sunnier and it was better for the plants, but I moved to Northern Ireland over 2 years ago to Belfast and LOVE it here, the people are so friendly and although we get a lot of rain it is still a LOT sunnier than Sligo haha :-D I use additional grow lights inside the house to overwinter the cacti and succulents and tropical plants and they are so cheap to run on electric and the plants seem to do very well here, we keep our polytunnel cacti plants heated on a low setting with a polytunnel electric heater at 5c and keep all the cacti dry over the winter, thankfully we get really mild overnight winter temps here which is a bonus. We have a wonderful cacti and succulent society here too that you may love to go to ? the people are really friendly and the meetings are held on every second sat on the Rosetta Road at St Andrews Prestybyterian Church at 2.30 the next one being this Saturday 12th Oct, come along if you are free that day :-D XXXXX

Hi there, it could be due to stress, these Lophophora can turn purplish or reddish if they are getting a lot of direct sun or when exposed to cold, excess heat or any problems with their roots, it may be best to remove your cactus from the pot just to double check there is no problem with the roots like root mealy bug or if the roots or tuber has got damaged, thanks so much for watching and happy growing to you XXXX

+Daniel Aguiniga Hi Daniel :-) thanks so much for your wonderful comment :-) the best soil to use is a well drained potting mix and I make up my own by using a soil based rather than a peat based soil and I like to use John Innes either no1 or no2, and then mix it in equal parts with horticultural sand, if you can't get John innes soi, then you can use any other soil based compost and mix it with Horticultural sand or perlite :-) I use 50% John Innes and 50% horticultural sand. but you can also use 50% soil based compost and 50% perlite :-) its a very slow growing cactus and makes a wonderful compact little plant that forms little pups all around its base with age :-) thanks so much for watching and sending heaps of love and happy growing from Ireland for a FANTASTIC day XXXXX
Eating peyote to trip is straight up disrespectful, but honestly nobody is doing that these days anyways (I hope) since they've all been poached :(. A strong pachanoi or a good bolivian torch will be nearly as potent as peyote. You gotta puke up a bunch of cactus no matter which way you take it unless you get lab made mescaline or do an extraction. I want to get ahold of a button and start grafting them to pachanois for preservation. They're also just beautiful cactus. Mescaline is a beautiful substance and it's what got me into cacti. It's different from other psychedelics, you fall in love with the world and appreciate everything when you're on it.
I looked at my venus fly trap today! and saw there was a small flowers spike!!!!!😀😉😂😁😃😅 I'm so ooooooo happy. mine died last time when it got a flower bud, because I let it dry on accident when I left the house! so I got a new one and it is right were I left off. lol hope I remember to water!😂 I have it in a tray this time! not letting this one go lol

When I was a kid back in the seventies I use to walk miles in the desert with flower pots try trying to find these cactus transplanting them then our step father would give me and my sis our allowance.. I had no idea what they were for I thought pretty on people's desk or cactus garden. Now I know better. I feel so used thinking back on it I should have gotten a bigger cut.

I believe they weren't yet endangered, plus they're only endangered in the wild, it's not like they can't be reestablished/incorporated back into nature. However, I do agree that they should be left alone, I certainly wouldn't touch them, if I wanted one I'd just buy some from a nursery or grow from seed. Disclaimer... its illegal to grow or possess them in the United States if you're not a member of the Native American church that use them in ceremony.

The government in New Mexico has decriminalized all religious use of mushrooms, Peyote, and San Pedro, but I have been involved with the Native American Church since 2004,.. now I am an active member, and aiming to start a church dedicated to the sacrament Peyote. There are many Peyote's that we use, not just the ones in the books... Even San Pedro is referred to as Peyote in Mexico where Peyote was founded! some of them even have MDA "ecstacy" naturally occurring in them. Those ones are even more valued by the shaman and very hard to find, if you are looking for them. Funny, this cactus was given to babies who were colic, and they chewed on it like a piece of candy. They taste like a green apple and make you feel all of the love in the universe wrap around you like a soft cozy blanket! We all know this species of cactus M. Wrightii... The berries taste like kiwi and strawberry and are very warming to the spirit as well. Do you have any M.Wrightii in your collection, or is it just too easy to grow for you? Your lophophora is beautiful, i have a few ones in bloom too, this beautiful cacti is not only use for the native americas, it is also use today in various other tribes in México such as the Wixarika, from San Luis Potosi, Queretaro and Oaxaca in México, from where is native the beautifull peyote, Cheers :)

A mild mescaline trip is what formed my love for cacti and succulents.
@@McFwoupson I have a nice 3 year old button now. And a cool trichocereus bridgesii monstrose with a happy little pup on it. A whole bunch of little seedlings some regular williamsii and caespitosa. One caespitosa grafted onto a pereskiopsis. I dont think Id ever eat a peyote though its just waste of love, effort and beautiful plant. Ill stick to doing acid base extractions from pachanoi and bridgesii from a source of mescaline.
My point about declaring something abuse just because you're not the right religion to experience the 'medicine' still stands though. That's just asinine.
@@DIGITALVHS Yeah you don't need to be native american to take mescaline. I got ahold of pure lab made mescaline hcl recently which I'm excited to try. Idk how somebody could even abuse mescaline it's just not prominent, also psychedelic tolerance. Also that's really awesome dude I aspire to have that haha. I want to grow some williamsii from seed and graft them to pachanoi. I'm going to be germinating seeds several strains of trichocereus (mostly pachanoi) along with bolivian torch. Got 100 echinocereus reichanbacha seedlings planted indivually right now, lovely little puffball cactus with a beautiful purple flower but the flowers only last for a day.

I have different lophophora, around 12 of them. However, they are nowhere near as big as the one in this video. Mine are about 8 years old now.
Do you put them outside in the summer? I do, but ive learned the hard way that birds love to peck on them, i lost a few this way and most are damaged by now because of beak sized holes.
I am now looking around a bit for inspiration on how to create a natural looking creation in pots.

I have many succulents and hungry rodents. I protect them with wire screen covers, made out of 1/2” “hardware cloth”. It’s a US term for galvanized wire screen with spacing of 1/2 inch. 1/4” is available too.

Hi Lyne thanks so much for your videos. I purchased my first loph yesterday which is a BEAST. Lots and lots of pups. I'm just not sure where to keep it. It's summer here in Sydney, Aus right now so averaging about 25-35 celsius. Would this be okay for indirect sunlight? Are they sensitive to direct sunlight? Hi Jordan :-D well done on purchasing your first Loph they are AMAZING plant to grow :-D the good news is these plants can take a lot of heat and strong sunlight so you will be absolutely fine growing these plants in strong sunshine and watering once a week in hot weather during the Spring and Summer is perfect for these plants, but make sure you let the soil dry out completely in between watering's, and keep them totally dry during the fall/ Autumn and Winter :-D but during the Spring and Summer lots of sunshine is PERFECT for them :-D and WOW with lots of pups I bet your Loph is a beauty :-D thanks so much for watching and sending tons of love an dhappy growing from Ireland to Australia XXXX
I have a beautiful peyote with 2 pups. I'd like to separate them from the mother plant. Not sure how to go about it.
Hi there :-D I always prefer to leave the pups on the Mother plant as it can be difficult to re root the pups once removed as these cacti have deep root tubers, sometimes the only way to get the pups to grow is to graft them onto a root stock of another cactus, personally I would leave them on if you can, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Thursday XXXX
To re root your pups just wait for spring and when they blow up after a couple of waterings you can cut the pups away with a bit of root stem and let them dry out for a week and plant them shallow when the scar tissue has formed... you can also try graft your pups to faster growing cacti that's I just tried with 1 of my peyote pups it seems basic and I have many prickly pear clones to graft to... otherwise its not to hard cacti are very strong... you will have to re pot the mother cactus and also if you graft you can also re pot the graft root and grow more pups or even graft the root and grow up to several pups at one go...

I'm worried!!! My button is turning a little yellow and it's starting to shrivel a tad bit around a blemish from growth what should I do it's only the beginning stages but I would hate to see it get worse!

Hi :-D yes if your Lophophora's are very small in the young seedling stage ( less than 1 cm wide ) I would still continue to give them a bit of water every time the soil has totally dried out in the pots, and keep them at a minimum temperature of 12-15 C / 55-60F, but if they are larger than this and its Autumn /Winter now where you are living, then I would keep them totally dry with no watering at all now until the Spring time, as these cacti like a cool and dry overwintering rest period

I live in Taiwan but hail from the states. I bought one along with a bunch of other succulents at the farmers market. Do you ever fertilise it? I'm worried about it since mine is in a little Bonsai pot.

Thats wonderful you have got one of these Lophophora beauties, it will settle down in a few days and acclimatise to its new surroundings, if its your Spring now I would still keep it dry and a little bit shaded from too much direct sunshine for the first few days until it acclimatises, after a few days you can put your Loph in a very sunny position and then water, you can also use a cactus fertiliser every 3-4 waterings to help speed up the flowering, good luck with growing your new Loph and thanks so much for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a sunny Saturday XXXX

How cold over the winter can these tolerate please ?
Hi James :-D these plants can take below freezing if kept completely dry and in a dry climate but if growing these plants in northern hemispheres where the air humidity is higher they are best kept dry over winter and ideally at no lower temperature than 2c, thanks so much for watching XXXXX

Do you know if its possible growth a peyote without roots?
Hi there :-D I am not sure if you can grow them without roots if they lose their roots but you can graft them onto other types of cacti to speed their growth, I have not grafted any plants myself though and would not be the best one to advise you on it, thanks so much for watching and good luck with growing your plants XXXX

Native Americans used to migrate yearly to Chihuahua, San Luis Potosi , Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas to harvest the plant they would take it back home with them to use through out the year

Are you serious. They are not illegal in NI. I've had them for years and always thought they where illegal here. Can you tell me where I would find information on this. As I was always informed it was illegal. Mine flower all the time and are at least 16 years old. double flowers come out after they get to a certain age. @@NorthernIrelandFishingReports Yes haha its certainly a challenge growing these plants here haha :-D but I love the challenge more of growing them here as its part of the fun haha :-D when I lived in England the weather was drier and then I moved to Sligo in the South of Ireland and OMG what a shock haha it rained EVERY day and hardly saw the sun haha, I lived there 6 years and amazingly the plants still flowered and did ok, but when I moved to the East coast to Wexford and then Waterford it was much sunnier and it was better for the plants, but I moved to Northern Ireland over 2 years ago to Belfast and LOVE it here, the people are so friendly and although we get a lot of rain it is still a LOT sunnier than Sligo haha :-D I use additional grow lights inside the house to overwinter the cacti and succulents and tropical plants and they are so cheap to run on electric and the plants seem to do very well here, we keep our polytunnel cacti plants heated on a low setting with a polytunnel electric heater at 5c and keep all the cacti dry over the winter, thankfully we get really mild overnight winter temps here which is a bonus. We have a wonderful cacti and succulent society here too that you may love to go to ? the people are really friendly and the meetings are held on every second sat on the Rosetta Road at St Andrews Prestybyterian Church at 2.30 the next one being this Saturday 12th Oct, come along if you are free that day :-D XXXXX

Hi there, it could be due to stress, these Lophophora can turn purplish or reddish if they are getting a lot of direct sun or when exposed to cold, excess heat or any problems with their roots, it may be best to remove your cactus from the pot just to double check there is no problem with the roots like root mealy bug or if the roots or tuber has got damaged, thanks so much for watching and happy growing to you XXXX

Supposedly they dont need overwintering to grow flowers so i guess you could keep them in a warm room all year round.

I'm moving to Ireland I hate rules! lol.... planting seeds for lophophora cactus how should the soil be? I've read it's a slow growing cacti!
+Daniel Aguiniga Hi Daniel :-) thanks so much for your wonderful comment :-) the best soil to use is a well drained potting mix and I make up my own by using a soil based rather than a peat based soil and I like to use John Innes either no1 or no2, and then mix it in equal parts with horticultural sand, if you can't get John innes soi, then you can use any other soil based compost and mix it with Horticultural sand or perlite :-) I use 50% John Innes and 50% horticultural sand. but you can also use 50% soil based compost and 50% perlite :-) its a very slow growing cactus and makes a wonderful compact little plant that forms little pups all around its base with age :-) thanks so much for watching and sending heaps of love and happy growing from Ireland for a FANTASTIC day XXXXX

Eating peyote to trip is straight up disrespectful, but honestly nobody is doing that these days anyways (I hope) since they've all been poached :(. A strong pachanoi or a good bolivian torch will be nearly as potent as peyote. You gotta puke up a bunch of cactus no matter which way you take it unless you get lab made mescaline or do an extraction. I want to get ahold of a button and start grafting them to pachanois for preservation. They're also just beautiful cactus. Mescaline is a beautiful substance and it's what got me into cacti. It's different from other psychedelics, you fall in love with the world and appreciate everything when you're on it.

I looked at my venus fly trap today! and saw there was a small flowers spike!!!!!😀😉😂😁😃😅 I'm so ooooooo happy. mine died last time when it got a flower bud, because I let it dry on accident when I left the house! so I got a new one and it is right were I left off. lol hope I remember to water!😂 I have it in a tray this time! not letting this one go lol
