Nice representation of this unusual cactus. I find these plants widely trouble free and robust for most of the year. They certainly don't seem to mind the cool humid conditions in winter and very rarely rot if generously doused with water during hot weather either. Overall, an excellent all rounder:- and one of the few cactus with very few or no spines at all. In the US if you are a member of certain tribes or native American church you can have peyote for religious purposes. I'm a member of the Comanche Nation tribe and have been looking at ways to grow this since its so hard to find because of bad harvesting practices and poaching
Thanks so much for sharing this info, and thank you so much for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX
try checking out the Morning Star Conservancy and Seedling Sanctuary. Leo can help you out. Personally, it p.o.'s me that we have to get permission from the colonial gov't to be who we are. Freedom of religion in word but not deed.
I checked, you can legally have them in every state except California, why Idk. But if coming in from overseas, they will be destroyed by customs. Idk if you can get in any trouble at that point. I cant guarantee that you wont. Its sad as it is almost an endangered species here in the US :( I am a plant collector. I was just recently given a couple different kinds, that were dying and I managed to nurse them back to health and I am hooked ! Now I want every variety there is ! Including the peyote strain. I have colitis, so I have ZERO interest in anymore nausea or vomiting than I already deal with, so eating or using them to get high, is something I want nothing to do with. I just love how cure they are and as a collector, I want a couple, just to have them, lol. I do have souix and apache in my ancestors and my hubs has Blackfoot in his. Idk if that matters, or if it is a prerequisite for legally having them, but I did read the only state that they are illegal is California, which to me, is strange, as they probably grow in the wild there, but may be endangered or poached, so they were made illegal. I haven't gone much further than finding out of I am legally allowed to have them in Florida and that is what I found out.
Interesting you point that out in the USA. I have heard that it is illegal to collect from the wild, grow, possess, and import any Peyote cactus in America as they are considered a protected species. Quite freely available to buy over here in Europe.
How many different varieties of cacti do you have? They are all happy and thriving ! I ha e just recently began collecting different varieties and the peyote variety interests me because they are so darn cute ! I have colitis, so I have ZERO interest in eating them and having anymore nausea and vomiting than I want as it is! I know that might be strange, but I am just a plant lover. Many friends and family members bring me their dying plants, for me to bring back to life, take a few cuttings, and give them back You are legally allowed to have the peyote cacti in every state in the US except California, why?I don't know. But I am in Florida, and have no desire to profit from them in any way, legal or not. I am just on a mission now, after reviving 3 different varieties, to acquire as many different types as I possibly can and these, because of their cuteness. Great, adorable video ! You've sure got some happy cacti. I love that they call the babies pups too, as my grandparents bred and showed afghan hounds for many, many years, so the pup thing just pulled at my heart strings.
Thats fantastic you have started collecting different varieties of cacti, they really are awesome plants to grow and each one is so unique with their appearance, Peyote cacti really are amazing as they are spineless and I love their round shapes and the little pups they produce around them, thats so wonderful your friends and family members bring you their dying plants to revive and take cuttings, its such a shame that the laws prevent many growers from growing peyote, it really is crazy especially as so many other things are legal, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Florida for a super Saturday XXXX

@@desertplantsofavalonvery welcome!:) I grow on pure pumice, I believe it's the high airflow and drainage that makes the difference...I experimented w one gymno and every single plant ive changed into that media shows same results . Would this cactus cause an issue if you were driving over eu borders? Would they even know it was peyote? Cant find any info on this and maybe you have some experience
Hi there, I think if they are boxed and hidden they should be ok, I don't think that they would be able to tell what you had in the car, it can be different if you are using the plane, but I am not sure 100% abut this, I moved all my Peyote over in a van in the Ferry but only from England to the Republic of Ireland and my partner moved his Peyotes from Sweden to Ireland in a van on the ferry with no questions asked, I think it should be ok, but it was over five years ago, and I am not sure how it is now, it may be stricter now as there are these new 'plant sanitary certifications' etc since last year, good luck and fingers crossed it will be ok for you XXXX
What a grouse collection. Beautiful! May I ask your experience with consuming the ceaspitosa, if any? Compared to straight LWii. I just got myself a lovely specimen and am curious of the outcome. Mind you, I'm in no hurry. Happy to just have her grow n look pretty. Thanks mate. ::)
Hi there :-D so happy you enjoyed the video, I have never consumed any of the Lophophoras, but from what I have heard the caespitosa is very low in mescaline compared to the Loph williamsii and you would have to consume a very lot of them to get any effects, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a terrific Thursday XXXX
There are only 2 species of Lophophora: williamsii and diffusa. Caespitosa is williamsii. It is just a term used to describe a particular growth pattern, although it is widely misconceived as being its own variety.
Do you have any recommendation for max peyote seeds per square foot when assuming a germination rate of 40-50%? I am new to peyote but from what I have read they like company. I would be using perlite + potting compost (heat-treated) and a bag method most likely. Thanks.
Hi there :-D thats fantastic you will be growing Peyote from seed, you can plant up to 50 seeds per square foot, and they seem to grow better in company, they stay very small for the first couple of years, good luck with growing from seed and thanks so much for watching XXXX

I have 3 large L. Williamsii left that I bought in 1996 from SYON PARK in London (had six originally) - non have 'pupped' so I assume they only do if cut for use?
Hi Adrian, Lophophora will pup by themselves, but thats strange that yours have never pupped, I have never cut any of my Lophs but they pupped once they reached a width of about 1 and a half inches, thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful Thursday XXX
Hi there, it can take about 5 -8 years if grown from seed before they are mature enough to flower, but because they are very slow growing it can take 15-20 years before they reach a large mature size, thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful plant powered Tuesday XXXX

Hi lynn! Thanks for sharing your vast collection of lovely lophophoras! Just wondering, is it normal to have those yellowish on the lophophora's body? If its naturally occured, i am fine with it. 😅😅😅 but if its fungal infection, how would you treat them? Thanks in advance for your reply! Cactus power!
Hi Raphael :-D yes Lophophoras can often scab and scar as they age and this is normal, but I do use Neem oil to protect them from fungul and spider mite attack as these Lophophora cacti are very prone to getting them, the Neem oil is very safe to use and even gives them a boost too, here is a link to a video oh How I use Neem oil on my Lophophora cacti : th-cam.com/video/PS2Ym8RDS9Q/w-d-xo.html thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a sunny Sunday XXXX

@@desertplantsofavalon is there a good measure for potency of these if one were to attempt to consume one? I cant imagine years and years of work to just consume it but it has been an interest of mine
@@thomaspinter8456 The ones grown in cultivation contain very little mescaline and you would have to consume a lot of them to get any effects if at all, but the ones grown in their natural habitats are much more higher in mescaline due to the way they have been hardened to the elements wit the strong sun and draught etc XXXX
Yes Spider mites are a battle with my plants, I now use the Diatomaceous earth and Neem oil to keep the mites away, thanks so much for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Friday XXXXX
some people may complain that they don't get to see "the green" of their plants when using DE, however, with DE you can see the new growth and really get an idea of how fast your plants are growing. and that's rather exciting, even if you can't see "the true green" of the plant. and its very calming to know that the mites cannot touch the plants as long as they are dusted with DE. i use a wee paint brush to apply the DE. that way I can work the DE deep down into the plants' crevices where the mites like to hide.
@@yaddahaysmarmalite4059 the wee paint brushes are brilliant for getting the DE right into all the crevices, I love to sprinkle the DE into the soil mixes too to prevent root mealies XXXX 🥰🌵

@@chucktouchton398no wonder I couldn't find them under their true name on ebay. Thanks much !
Awesome collection, I just started collecting lopophora myself. I have 4 types
So happy you are collecting Lophophora too Ken and I bet the four you have are beauties
😍 my favorite button cactus, i wish i could find seeds here in usa but sadly nope, you got me hyped to grow from seed this year!😎🌵
Interesting you point that out in the USA. I have heard that it is illegal to collect from the wild, grow, possess, and import any Peyote cactus in America as they are considered a protected species. Quite freely available to buy over here in Europe.
So sorry that you can't get Lophophora seeds for sale in the USA Angel
Try buying the lophophora cactus seeds of off eBay.
Really appreciate your videos
So happy you love the videos, and thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching, wishing you a fantastic plant powered day XXXX
What are the ones with hairy fingers? I have one similar but has red hairs.
Hi Robert :-D it could possibly be a Mammillaria elongata as this cactus has finger like gold or red hairs and spines, thanks so much for watching and have a fantastic Monday XXXX

Have you tried growing in pure mineral substrate?
Pumice, or fired clay, decomposed granite etc?
Ive noticed improved form, growth and overall health in my plants.
Id recommend it!
Thanks so much for letting me know Alejandro :-D I do add pumice and lava rock to my soil mix but I haven't tried growing in pure mineral substrate, I know some growers who do and also have great success, I will have to give it a try too, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Friday XXXX

I grow on pure pumice, I believe it's the high airflow and drainage that makes the difference...I experimented w one gymno and every single plant ive changed into that media shows same results .

It’s crazy how slow they actually grow :-)
Indeed one of the slowest. Millimetres per year I think. Maybe a new aerole every two or three years. Patience very much a virtue.
demonhalo67 Yeh you certainly don’t grow cactus if you want fast growth, got to be in it for the long haul hehe

Thanks mate. ::)

Thanks.
Hi there :-D thats fantastic you will be growing Peyote from seed, you can plant up to 50 seeds per square foot, and they seem to grow better in company, they stay very small for the first couple of years, good luck with growing from seed and thanks so much for watching XXXX

some people may complain that they don't get to see "the green" of their plants when using DE, however, with DE you can see the new growth and really get an idea of how fast your plants are growing. and that's rather exciting, even if you can't see "the true green" of the plant. and its very calming to know that the mites cannot touch the plants as long as they are dusted with DE. i use a wee paint brush to apply the DE. that way I can work the DE deep down into the plants' crevices where the mites like to hide.
@@yaddahaysmarmalite4059 the wee paint brushes are brilliant for getting the DE right into all the crevices, I love to sprinkle the DE into the soil mixes too to prevent root mealies XXXX 🥰🌵
