Indeed the are sweet! I harvest my fruit as soon as they are bright pink/red, otherwise the birds or ants get them (as they are outside). One of the perks of harvesting is getting the remnants of those beautiful sweet fruit as a "micro snack"!

Indeed, you dont get much seeds but 80-90% will hatch. I counted 18 seeds and they looked good. So next year you get around 15 new plants !

They look very healthy, thanks for the nice vid, they are beautiful and i love the shaggy look of the ones you have.
The ones i have look even after many years , more like the smaller ones you showed, not in size but
yours are much furrier.
Mine bloom constantly and don t need to be pollinated ,probably because they get pollinated by the garden critters
and i read in some book about cacti that there are several species of lophophora and even the l.williamsi has subspecies
I did also read about hippies growing them for the mescaline , and that it lacks the mescaline it s grown for,
they only seem to produce much mescaline wen they grow in strong desert sunlight.
So those hippies ended up with a lovely plant instead of going down rabbit holes, lol!
After seeing this vid i m starting to wonder if i have some other kind of lophophora or a subspecies.
i m not sure if there is information about it on the web, but i m going to search for it,
do you maybe know about a website that has good determination info about peyote cacti?

Thanks a million Patrick for your fantastic comment :-) these cacti are wonderful and wacky with their woolly tufts of hair instead of spines :-) I bet your Lophs are beautiful especially blooming constantly through the Summer such beauties :-) yes I have heard they are a few different types of Lophs, I also have a Loph diffusa which is lighter in color than the williamsii, and a Loph caespitosa which is a more multiheaded species than the williamsii, but there are meant to be many more :-) I think if these plants are grown in pots indoors they contain only very little mescaline :-) LOL! at the Hippies ending up with nice plants instead of going down the Rabbit holes haha! there is a good website on these beautiful cacti and here is a link tot he website : www.magicactus.com/index.html thanks so much for watching and sending you an abundance of love and happy growing and happiness from Ireland to Holland for a TERRIFIC Tuesday XXXXX

I never saw a l.diffusa or a l.caespitosa in real life, i only saw pics of them and seeing them with my own eyes and being able to compare them , would be amazing ( or maybe you could make a vid about them? XD).

Actually I have about 1000 San pedro seeds from last year harvest to sow with them I'm pretty impressed how fast you answered!!! I'm really a big fan of your videos you made me feel special have a nice Friday and I send you a lot of good vibes from Mexico 🇲🇽
I have got about 100 to 150 pups and big ones around ten years old, mostly grown indoors, the bigger ones are around 6 cm diameter, and have flowered both white and pink, and produced the little pinkish fruits, which are supposedly edible, never actually tasted them though. I have never bothered to collect the seeds because my plants seem to EXPLODE with pups after a very weak dose of fertilizer in the summer. In the wild, they are or rather can be very slow growing, like say taking sometimes up to 30 YEARS to get to around 6 cm diameter. But in captivity, proper soil and water and special fertilizer with low nitrogen high phosphorus, limited U.V. exposure they grow heaps faster, there are many strains of this species, and some superficial differences.

I got some orange rot on some of my lophos. Plus when I look closely I see little holes in the skin that look like pin pricks. I believe those are spider mites. Anyway I took them out and gave them a good shower. I also ordered some neem oil. I was wondering if that will take care of the orange rot as well as the mites? One of the cactuses infected are almost 20 years old. I definitely can't loose that one.
So sorry to hear about your Lophs, Lophophora can be very prone to Spider mites and they often come down with orange spots that can be more of an aesthetic problem than being harmful, and sometimes they can form an orange rust like discoloration as they age from the base, especially with older plants but if the orange rot is at the base of your plant and it feels soft you may need to do an emergency cut to save the top part and treat it as a cutting, here is a link to a video I made on how to save a cactus from rot,th-cam.com/video/UM6imgsh4Gg/w-d-xo.html but its difficult to say without pics, hope it gets sorted for you and your plants will be ok :-) sending lots of love and happy groowing from Ireland and have a fantastic Friday XXXX

@@blentobex5802 mine were flowering every few weeks this summer. Had 3 flowers at one point. They grow so fast. Have taken seeds but not been successful with the recent flowers but not sure if I'm doing it right as some have been tiny yellow things. The 2 pods I got seeds off were the first pods I ever removed last month had 17 in. My Loph is 5yrs old. Not sure how old it was before we got it.
Anyway I was wondering if you had any videos on getting rid of fungal infections or mites.

Hi Faith :-D I LOVD your fbruary update :-D the cactus at 14:36 is a Gymnocalycium its a beauty of a cactus and does look very similar to Lophophora williamsii in its appearance except Lophophora have woolly tufts instead of spines, but is similar in appearance with its plant body to Gymnocalycium, and I think your cactus could be a Gymnocalycium baldianum :-D it has beautiful deep red flowers in the summer :-D sending you an abundance of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from Ireland for a fantastic evening XXXX

how old was your oldest 'williamsii' before harvesting the seeds? ie. how long do you let them dry before harvest??

If you dry the seed pods for a day or two the seeds will not stick to your finger. Or does their viability go down if you dry them?

hi I plant some seed mix into zip bag I'm in day 8 so far look good but 1 thing that I didn't put soil into microwave. u think they will be ok ? I hope .

Hi there :-) yes there are quite a few different vaieiries of Peyote as well as the main one which is Lophophora williamsii there are a few others including, Lophophora diffusa, Lophophora caespitosa, Lophophora fricii, Lophophora Koehresii, and a few more cultivars :-) XXXX

@@desertplantsofavalon WOW. so was correct. They take 20yrs to be that size. In the states I can go to prison for growing Peyote. Now why is it not a controlled plant in your part of the world. Ireland? Well thanks for always answering my questions. I'm with my plant daily also. I understand the bond and relationships between them. ✌. They truly have it figured out. Meaning survival. All plants. My cannabis plants along with my cacti. I know they are aware of my presence. One way or another. Jellyfish don't have brains. But are aware of there surroundings. Idk . I have about 5 grown ones with about 10-15 years im mexican btw, the fact is i never knew how to harvest the seed and just left them to grow alone, they now have 5 babies on the side so i dont really know if those small seeds fell from the pouch and grew themselves, but simply impressive how they grew babies without help at all, now i have a couple of the big ones flowering so im gonna wait till they get the neaty pouch to actually start reproducing, one day i hope to have hundreds
I really appreciate people growing to preserve our beautiful ecosystem, i also grow many other plants and trees and will continue through my life, good vibes
