It is a pity that cultivating peyote is illegal in so many countries, here in the UK is perfectly legal to have it as ornamental plant, and it is a great cactus for indoor cultivation: I have been growing one for about 5 years now, it is still very small but flowers every year, the blue-green colour is really rare among cacti and the flower are absolutely gorgeous. Those little things grow so slowly, I could never rip one out of the ground and cut it open so casually like the people in the video. Somehow I learned about peyote when I was a kid and of all places, from The X Files. I even had some book from the show that explained the use of the plant and cultural significance in ceremonies.
From what an ol'timer told me, You are supposed to harvest it by slicing it close to the ground leaving the root undisturbed, it will regrow and add new buttons next to it, NEVER pull the root !! Only idiots (dumb asses) who don't know what they are doing, remove root and all !! Just saying !! If I offended any dumb asses, at least you learned something in the process, Don't do it again !! 😜
I've tried peyote a couple of times, when I was @18-19 years old. I must admit it took me for quite a ride. But through it, and some other psychedelic plants, I found insight into myself, my family and others. Ultimately, they really taught me to love and understand myself and people. I was young and quite rebellious, but these experiences really shaped the person I am today. Anyway, thank you for the interesting and informative video. I'll b watching your channel ❤
Peyote is just cool as hell to look at, and then it makes everything else cool to look at 😁 (but is it really worth like 8 years to destroy such a cute lil guy??)
In mesoamerican culture, when you want to trip, first you pick a cactus, and abuse it, poke it with sticks and stuff and carve it up, and then like a week later you harvest it. They release more alkaloids when theyre stressed, so this makes it more potent. If you harvest them properly, then they'll grow back. They do really great in grow tents, apparently.
I have a huge "maceta" with a pitahaya cactus, I bought it in a rural market, and years later I noticed 2 peyote buds near the base 😂 Never had any intention of trying them cuz I'd break and damage the plant. And besides I don't want to risk a bad trip.
I think you are confusing peyote/mescaline with other hallucinogens such as LSD. I've never heard of mescaline "bad trips" other than extreme nausea from the Peyote buttons or otherwise taking extremely high doses - something that eating the bitter, nausea producing buttons seems to discourage. I have tried synthetic mescaline twice in my misspent youth (early 1970s) and it was the most mellow, peaceful and beautiful experience of my life.
I ate two peyote tops nearly 50 years ago and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. If you're the kind of person who raises plants and respects them to the extent you're describing, I doubt that you COULD have a "bad trip."
@@origamiswami2275 mescaline is incredibly euphoric compares to other psychedelics. Honestly it reminds me of being on MDMA. Bad trips are still possible on it. It can happen on any psychedelic.

what about are there any berries or fruits that are out their in the wild that humans dont eat or cultivate, that are perfectly fine for humans to eat but we don't?
We did some in the 79s & I’ll never forget it. We got it from south Texas & it wasn’t easy to get. We made chocolate shakes because it tasted awful but worth it .
Why would people get high on peyote which takes years to grow when you can just consume San Pedro cactus that grow very fast and gets huge? it has very similar alkaloids like mescaline.
Sustainable harvesting is done by not damaging the root. Leave green all around the base while removing the button and the base will grow new pups. Please don't harvest in the wild. Grafting to pereskiopsis also speeds things along significantly.

Because it exudes a delicious smell from its entire body, Bounsweet is popular with Pokémon and people of the Alola region. Bounsweet's scent has a calming effect on humans, so many people let them live inside their homes as a sort of air freshener.
I wish pokemon had a format game or not where they introduce more pokemon with dark origins. Sure ghost pokemon are dark and a few others like Toxapex, but most are not, even if they have dark moments/references like Cacturne, Gothitelle, and Sliggoo. There should at least be one pokemon of similar evilness to Toxapex in every type, every playstyle (I love Toxapex, because it is evil in a very unusual, being a defensive pokemon, but in a realistic way), every body plan, and every rarity.

You know the stuff grows wild in the U.S. right? It doesn't grow in Lithuania though... You probably could have bought seeds dirt cheap and gotten them sooner. Or Peruvian torch.

Legal to grow (and it grows like a weed once it gets going--none of this waiting around for many years for a button sized plant), but not legal to consume in most, if not all, jurisdictions where peyote is not legal.
@bobbun9630 not a lawyer but it's arguably legal if consuming for spiritual purposes. Not for partying, but if u have a legitimate spiritual purpose it's protected under 1st amendment.
Thank you so much for delving more into plant content! :D
Peyote is just cool as hell to look at, and then it makes everything else cool to look at 😁 (but is it really worth like 8 years to destroy such a cute lil guy??)
As a society we should decriminalize psychedelics 😔
@D the real advice is always in the comments. I'm over here like "like hell I'm not gonna eat it after growing it that long" 😂
@D or a bridgesii! Those are my go to mescaline cactus
Graft em, years of growth in a season, propagate, *then* distroy.
@@michaelbecker5995 Yes I grafted seedlings to pereskiopsis and now have so many pups to keep grafting! It's self-perpetuating.
Carnivores plants for a future episode? They are awesome!
This channel got me interested into floristry in college! Thanks a bunch!
Grow your own but the taste is absolutely unforgettable
"Hey Butthead, isn't there supposed to be water in cactuses?" Beavis
Just wanted to say, that was an excellent choice of attire for this specific episode.
"... lightning flashes out the corner of my eyes..." Awesome 😎
I have a huge "maceta" with a pitahaya cactus, I bought it in a rural market, and years later I noticed 2 peyote buds near the base 😂
Never had any intention of trying them cuz I'd break and damage the plant.
@@stephenjones101 every psychedelic can lead to a bad trip when done in a bad setting.
@@origamiswami2275 mescaline is incredibly euphoric compares to other psychedelics. Honestly it reminds me of being on MDMA. Bad trips are still possible on it. It can happen on any psychedelic.
@chu Harry Ah yes, that's how it was sold to me so I always call it "Maceta". It is a clay plant pot, quite pretty with its desert design.
Makes me want to start a peyote garden lol
@ grapefruit simmons
Before doing that, please think about all the people who did it because it was too much work to create a roses garden, daysies garden, trees garden..
Can i come by in 10 years?
It's illegal in some parts of the world.
@@PerceptionVsReality333 Which is a crime in and of itself.
@@foreyfriend145 lol “too much work”.
Eyyy, it's awesome to see you covering Peyote; been curious about it, ever since I heard about it in the very first episode of _Grace and Frankie_ 😆🤘
OMG saaaame!! I thought of that when I saw this! Definitely answered all my questions
"Drink cactus juice, it'll quench ya, nothing's quenchier, it's the quenchiest!"
As a Native American child, grandmother made a bitter tea we had to drink before the start of each school year. This protected us against diseases. I never got sick until she passed and I went away for University. I only learned in my 50s that it was weak peyote tea. We can’t get it anywhere because of Government policies. Sad. It really works! We Never hallucinated!!!!
Hence the weak peyote tea.
You can get it but your afraid they will catch you doing it
When your defense mechanism shifts your main predator from herbivores to stoners 🙃
Tasha is by far one of my favorite TH-camrs honestly
Sokka: *drink cactus juice! it will quince ya! Nothing Quincy’er, it’s QUINCYEST!*
Thank you, Tasha the Amazon, for teaching me about Peyotes!
Anything that helps people is illegal
Yes, Anything Natural from Mother Nature that helps is usually made a class 1 illegal substance, so it cannot be researched at all for its Pros and Cons, and kept from humanity, it's a shame too !!
Anything they can't monetize...
How about old forests and the importance of preserving them for a topic? :)
But is it’s juice the quenchyest?
I understand that reference!
“The little hairy things growing out the bumpy parts!” (fights laughing) (I wonder how many re-takes she had to do)! 🤣🤣🤣👌🏾
It's a very rewarding little cacti to grow
I recommend you hit up this legit plug they're very reliable ship to any location they got dmt, lsd, peyote, spores, microdose and other psychedelic stuffs

They're on Instagram
.....
There’s a lot of potential in psychedelics, I can’t wait to try any of them mushrooms specifically but it’s just so hard to find a reliable source over here, I’ll be glad if anyone can be of help
I’ve tried a lot and since the first time i tried it, I said “it’s a crime against humanity to make psychedelic illegal”
@Jeffrey Hartwhere do I search is it on IG?
I really have had so much wonderful experience with psychedelics.... The key is in the settings
@Jeffrey Hart
Alright, I’m gonna check him out right now
Same. Here.
"i forgot how to talk"
That's the peyote, right there, mmm hmmm.
I remember taking Mescaline in the 70s, and it makes you crack up so hard you'd die from laughing 😅 I loved the 70s
Peyote : Imma be bitter so noone eats me
Humans: eugh......whaaaaa trippy
Peyote : NONONO NOT LIKE THAT !
DId not mention that The US DEA set out to destroy Peyote in the US. They dilberatly went out and destroyed all the plants they could find. This is why it is now endangered where as it used to be common in the Southwest. And is still common in the deserts of Mexico.
I love the enthusiasm of this channel. It really rubs off on me
2:26
peyote:"dude, don't eat me"
Humans: "sure, ok ...(eats peyote)
Peyote: ... bruh😐
what about are there any berries or fruits that are out their in the wild that humans dont eat or cultivate, that are perfectly fine for humans to eat but we don't?
Those rituals probably went back way further than the 1880s I would think
We did some in the 79s & I’ll never forget it. We got it from south Texas & it wasn’t easy to get. We made chocolate shakes because it tasted awful but worth it .
Why would people get high on peyote which takes years to grow when you can just consume San Pedro cactus that grow very fast and gets huge? it has very similar alkaloids like mescaline.
I've been taking care of one of those for over 20 years. I call him mescalito.
Grow another and name it 'Peyotito'
**running into a pond**
"WHO PUT ALL THIS WATER HERE??"
Sustainable harvesting is done by not damaging the root. Leave green all around the base while removing the button and the base will grow new pups. Please don't harvest in the wild. Grafting to pereskiopsis also speeds things along significantly.
It's the quenchiest!
I understand that reference!
@@ExtremeMadnessXI am responding to your comment over a year later! Hi!
I grew up listening to talk from the 'burnouts' about Peyote & Mesc but is wasn't until a pile of years later I am only now finding out what it is.
Thank you. I will admit that I was beginning to get confused until you said 'Hairy things on the bumpy parts' & I then was right back with ya!
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!! NOW I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR IN THE DESSERT!! THANK YOU!
I love these, they're so cute. Cacti are some of my favorite plants.
Also I'm furious people are poaching them
Peyote (jikuri) ceremonies have been going on for millennia. Should do more research on that part. It also has helped veterans from wars fight PTSD. All I'm saying it had been used by my ancestors for a very long time.
I think you did barrel cactus already. Why not our fuzzy little buddies the Cholla? Or you could tackle (figuratively, don't do this in real life) the Saguaro?
The title suggests it's the only psychedelic cactus, but there is like a whole species of mostly psychedelic cacti
I first knew of this cactus when I saw the Beavis and Butthead movie.
Yes!
Ha....I just realised that one of the many cactii I grow is this? Can you do a study on San Pedro.....its a common hallucinating cacti that occasionally one hears about as younger people experiment with.....be good to learn more about it please
Avatar The Last Airbender was right about cactus juice?
A valuable source of water if you are lost in the dessert. Eat as many as you can find...Ask Beavis and Butthead
Everyone find these in GTA 5 to become animals.
Really?

Love this video, love the education about overharvesting. The only thing is tribes didn't discover peyote in the 1880s, the medicine is much older than that for sure.
I've heard a lot of tripping stories, and they are very exciting, i would love to try magic mushrooms but I can't easily get some, Is there any realiable source I can purchase from??

Great episode Tasha! Might as well do another hallucinogenic plant? How bout Datura?
Imagine a country banning your drug of choice, and then you forming a religion to make yourself exempt from that ban... that's gotta have been done more than a single time in history, right?
The end of the video was the most relatable thing I've seen in a WHILE ! thanks for validating half of my conversations lol
I need to get my hands on that cactus, so can I wrap my mind around it. 👽
Bounsweet is a Grass type Pokémon introduced in Generation 7. It is known as the Fruit Pokémon.
Because it exudes a delicious smell from its entire body, Bounsweet is popular with Pokémon and people of the Alola region. Bounsweet's scent has a calming effect on humans, so many people let them live inside their homes as a sort of air freshener.
Very interesting. 🤔😏😋
Thank you for writing this very informative 😂😂
@@ace_wash8363 That's the world of Pokemon they eat each other for food and humans use them as friends and fighters lol
@@ace_wash8363 Lol I know right ! In the manga series most of the Pokédex entries are fleshed out where as the anime leaves our stuff like that 😱
I wish pokemon had a format game or not where they introduce more pokemon with dark origins.

I honestly watched just for the Amazon. 😊 The outtakes were a nice bonus.
have y'all done a floralogic on one of the most important produce of all, the humble corn? has million varieties, a fascinating history and is super important globally
Oh, bonus opportunity for some corny puns too.
So many things wrong with this information, less than 60 seconds in and I'm rolling my eyes...
Gotta admit I never knew what kind of plant peyote was/came from. Would love to see you talk about lotuses tho!
Looks like your hair is experiencing hallucinations. 😂.
Can you do a video about morning glories? I heard the seeds are also hallucinogenic but it's legal to grow.
The plant creates its own heat the best way to find them is after a light snow, even at a mile high they grow but they're not as many as they are lower altitude
In Canada Peyote was quietly decriminalized in 1996 but I had to buy 6 seeds from Lithuania, which I got one cactus.
You know the stuff grows wild in the U.S. right? It doesn't grow in Lithuania though... You probably could have bought seeds dirt cheap and gotten them sooner. Even before 1996, I don't remember peyote ever being illegal in Canada. Mescaline, the active ingredient in Peyote, was and still is illegal in Canada. Peyote itself is exempt from the law as part of indigenous rights, but mescaline is not. If cops stopped you and found peyote buttons, as soon as it tests positive for mescaline and you're not a Native American, you're effed.
I live in Dayton Ohio, have only experienced true peyote buttons, one time in 1986 ,San Diego, and would appreciate any help in growing my own here. Thanks,Mr. Tim
I love this episode being as one of my favorite thorn less cactus lopophora is cute, exotic and interesting plant i am ecstatic that i have them in my cactus collection before it becomes endangered.❤️
